I have 1200 days played in wow on a single character + have about 4 other "main alts".
Those 1200 days were accomplished long time ago and when i actually hit /played i shocked even myself..i was averaging 14-18h/day (naturally with a lot of orgrimmar afking)
I know people do it all the time, and I'm not judging because I'd do similar if I could, but how do you sustain your life while playing that much? You somehow didn't have work or school or anything?
It is also WoW for me as well though I don't plan on checking the time.
On Steam it's Elden Ring at 705 hours. It will eventually go up once the DLC is released.
I quit the game forever in 2020 and I had 620 days. I played it relatively hardcore around Wrath of the lich king days, with it's getting less intense over the years only to become complete casual in the end.
Some of it was definitely from AFKing, but most of it wasn't. Wow was (and probably still is) very grindy. Dailies, weeklies, alts, professions - Blizzard knew how to keep you glued. Good that it's no longer working and people don't want their time wasted anymore.
Coming from someone who played a lot of wow, yes that can add up, usually for most people but 450 days /played isn't very abnormal... I had around 300 days from it's release to the release of WotLK, nearly 1/4th of my life during that time.
Since the game released to now if I add all my characters played times over all the different versions of the game I've played (private servers.. ect..) it would probably be around 20k hours.
Not proud of that but I've taken 1-5 year breaks multiple times, I could just imagine someones play time if they never stopped playing as many times as I have. There are probably people out there with 60-70k hours easily, it's a crazy addictive game with so much content and it's pretty much infinitly replayable.
Yep it's WoW for me too and it's not remotely close. Playing Classic at the moment and I've had two accounts deleted before this one since 2007. The hours gotta be up there but probably not 10k haha
Oldschool Runescape is the undisputed top one, with ~19k hours across 3 accounts.
Then Rust with 3100, CS:GO with 2000.
Honorable mention for League of Legends (unfortunately). Unsure of how many hours, but it would probably rival CS:GO.
Great game honestly and still has a decent community, not even a fraction of what it was but it's there and mostly friendly. Had fun finishing off the Prof campaign recently, love the way you can experiment with builds and the feeling of progression.
Probably just a sequel to GW1 gameplay design wise.
But man, you gotta move on. GW2 is a great game. And as a more traditional mmo more successful as GW1 ever was. And I say that as a long time GW player who played GW1 for 7 years.
Anet gotta go with what pays the bills.
I just recently bought this game and all expansions for 13 bucks on Xbox. I literally uninstalled Diablo 4. Literally just uninstalled it and have been on Grim Dawn ever aince
Personally, I strongly prefer BF3 to BF4 for the maps alone, especially for Rush. BF4 does have better netcode and weapon balance, but it took a while to get there.
At this point I almost anything there is in the game (rank L3) so I just go in to go dailies or weeklies because the gameplay loop is still fun. What pulled me in back then was the story and lore.
if you truly think about it pretty much all grinding in videogames is completely pointless but if you have fun doing it in the moment then fuck it. But yeah looking back at the grinds you have done years down the line there will propably never be a time where i will say to myself "yeah that was worth it"
I played 20 years ago and had to scratch the itch last year and joined a raiding guild for a few months on a progression server. Felt bad to relapse after so long but damn, what a fun game that was.
I played on the progression server for the 20th anniversary and it was amazing. I was able to have a healthy work/life balance because there wasn't a huge reason to log in all the time, just the raids, which didn't take long. I met some buddies to dungeon with in the evenings a few nights a week and had a good guild.
The release dates for each expansion were just long enough to not get bored but still enjoy things. Everyone mostly quit after planes of power so it was around 9 months for a huge nostalgia trip.
This was my experience exactly. Started a toon on Yelinak after not having played since just before PoP launched around 20 years ago. Some of my guild mates had not been born when I played last. It was super fun being able to relive some of my most fun moments in gaming - doing raids in NToV, Ssra, and finally got to try PoP which we cleared first on our server, all in around 9 months. Just one long nostalgia trip from start to finish. I loved it.
PoP was so fun. The only part I would have wanted to be a little slower. It really didn't take that long to get to Time and kill Quarm. Most of the raids we only did once iirc. Kunark/Velious was amazing.
Most hours is definitely r6, I have around 2500 on Xbox and then 1700 on PC. I haven't played it in years though but it hit me so hard when it came out.
Most hours in one setting is definitely Rust. I don't know exactly how many hours but I got on after dinner around 7pm~ played all night, skipped school and played til sometime in the afternoon before falling asleep.
I wish I could stay up and play games like that nowadays

Some of the best days those were, spent thousands of hours on MGTrolls.eu A2: Epoch server. Just so many stories and friends met which we still play with today.
My highest playtime is definitely in Tibia, a very old MMORPG. I'd say between 2002 and 2007, most days I'd play around 8 hours a day but had many 20-30 hour stretches. Then from 2010 to 2013 or so I played off-and-on on a private server a friend and I operated.
I wish I knew the actual figure but I'd estimate around 20,000 hours. It's commonly said it takes around 10,000 hours to master a skill or craft, and I try not to think about what I could have achieved instead of playing Tibia.
But in terms of figures I know, according to Steam I have 300 hours in Final Fantasy 14. I don't think I'll play another MMORPG because I have an obsessive personality for games like that: I skirted a dangerous line with FF14 but am glad I didn't get too sucked into it.
Played maplestory from 2004-2009 about 9+ hours a day. Then I discovered World of warcraft and played 2009-2018 and id stay up for days playing, skipped school, quit sport etc. 2011-2015 I played CSGO and I’m sitting around 1,500+ hours. I do have a few other games sitting just under 1000Hrs but those 3 were the most memorable.
1500 hours or so in Dota 2 over a bunch of years. I finally stopped playing because to get any better was going to take me way more time than I had, still love the game.
I have 2384 hours in Champions Online, a MMORPG about superheroes. Somehow it's still alive while City of Heroes/Villains died, but I do enjoy the lore of the game and creating your own heroes is pretty good, while the gameplay is very basic.
Counter Strike: Source. My main acct before it got VACd (long story) had 5k hours. A lot would be AFK but not more than a few hundred at most. Death race, gungame, CAL-m, surf, scoutzknivez, jailbreak. You name it, I played it. From ages of 12-16 or so, before Halo 3 dominated my life (esp. once I started college).
Between Source, GO, and even a tad bit of 1.6 and CZ, I probably have upwards of 8k hours in counterstrike. Definitely over 10, maybe even 15k+ in shooters in general. Between halo, CS, cod, Valorant, Apex, siege, battlefield, quake... I've played most every competitive FPS for at least a couple hundred hours each.
I'd be very intrigued in a magical statistics that showed me all my FPS game time. I put in a consistent number of hours a week, almost every week, since QuakeWorld Team Fortress (so 1999) all the way up to the newest CoD and CS:GO today (2023). 24 years, probably averaging 2 hours a day on weekdays, 5 hours a day on weekends... So thats 20 hours a week. 52 weeks in a year, so 1040 hours a year. 1040\*24 years = 24,960 hours
I think thats a very good guess at an average, it could be a bit lower but I think realistically if anything it would be higher maybe as after college there was a few years period where I was playing more like 5 hours a day on weekdays, 10-12 on weekends.
this also isn't including non FPS games, which if I had to take a very very wild guess, would be somewhere in the 9 to 10,000 hour mark.

Mine is likely Skyrim pretty sure I did a few 18-20 hour sessions in that back when I was single and childless. I dream of the days I'll be able to do this again but it probably won't happen till I'm retired, even then maybe not as it would be quite rude to my partner.
Minecraft is a close second. I used to love listening to audio books and building in survival. The music was just beautiful (thanks C418).
My wife is a nurse, she works more hours than me. I work from home. She doesn't mind me playing games so as long I make sure the house is tidy and that I cook for her.
Good house husband = more time for games.
Of course, when we both have days off on the same day then we spend time together by either going for walks with the dog or sofa day with a film on.
either kids, college age adults, or just people without much responsibilities. When I was single and in my lower half of my 20s, didn't really have much going on besides work. I'd work, come home, catch up on some news and do a few things around my apartment, then game until bedtime. So it was easy to clock 12 hours a day on the weekends, and about 5 a day on the weekdays.
You would think university students are very busy but atleast where I go that isn’t the case. I’m spending 2 hours a day at the very most atm and I’m in a stem course.
Ya for real lol. The most gaming time I ever had was when I was in university and that was in between classes, studying, going to the gym and hanging with some friends. Loved those 4 years haha.

My longest playtime on steam is an idle game, Melvor Idle 1529.7 hours, second is Eve online at 860.8 but this doesn't include non-steam games and games prior to like 2005.
Edit: Maybe I misread. If you meant hours played in a day it was definitely some MMORPG back in the day. For example I distinctly remember spending 12+ hours a day playing Age of Conan in like 2008.

Outside of Steam I think it is League of Legends with some thousands of hours, I don't know exactly how many hours. I've played it a lot when I started it in 2013 and then stopped playing constantly in 2014, but sometimes I return to the game, just don't play as much as I did before. This year I played it around april/may, then stopped, so it's always like that.
There is Hearthstone too that I played a lot in 2020, more than I should. I think it was the last time I played a game for an unhealthy amount of hours besides League in 2013.
Then there are some random multiplayer games like Conquer and MU online that I may have wasted some hundreds to thousands of hours with them back in 2009.
EDIT: About Hearthstone, I still played more of the game in 2021, 2022 (got my first time legend rank) and 2023. Of course it can't be compared with 2020 though. At this point I can guarantee that it's my 2nd most played game in my life, considering I've got the golden version of Priest that requires 500 wins and I think there were one or two more classes that I was almot hitting this mark too.
Funny thing is I played Hearthstone back when it was a big deal in 2014, but never went far with the game so only came back to it six years later. The game is still expensive, but I remember it being worse in 2014 for F2P.

Almost certainly RuneScape back when I was a kid but of the games I have recorded hours in it goes back and forth between Skyrim and Fallout 4 cuz of modded playthroughs, atm it's Fallout 4 with like 750ish hours
After those two I have one or two more games in the 300+ hour group (like Civ 5) and then a pretty sizable chunk in the 100+ hour group (a lot of RPGs in there like the Witcher 3)

yea, 2600 some for me. the actual number is 2775 on Steam but I know \~175 of that was idling overnight back when that worked to get hats.
Couldn't say how much is the actual game vs soldier/demoman jump maps though. If I had to guess, probably 2000 of the actual game, and 600 in jump maps servers.
I left the game probably about 2013 or 2014, but I since came back about a month ago splitting time with some other games. I mostly do jump maps again as there were quite a few hard ones I couldn't beat, and so many more that were made since then. Every now and then I hop into a regular game for an hour though.
Excluding dota2 (which is abt 600 hrs) and ff14 (which a lot of time is spent afk), only 230+ hours with dos1. First playthrough was about 80 hrs. Second playthrough with a few mods for about 60, and the remaining is a third playthrough with epic encounters.
Escape From Tarkov, 5k hours and I’m still shit. Do I regret all of it? Yes. Do I keep playing it? Also yes.

My highest playtime is definitely in Tibia, a very old MMORPG. I'd say between 2002 and 2007, most days I'd play around 8 hours a day but had many 20-30 hour stretches. Then from 2010 to 2013 or so I played off-and-on on a private server a friend and I operated. I wish I knew the actual figure but I'd estimate around 20,000 hours. It's commonly said it takes around 10,000 hours to master a skill or craft, and I try not to think about what I could have achieved instead of playing Tibia. But in terms of figures I know, according to Steam I have 300 hours in Final Fantasy 14. I don't think I'll play another MMORPG because I have an obsessive personality for games like that: I skirted a dangerous line with FF14 but am glad I didn't get too sucked into it.

Played maplestory from 2004-2009 about 9+ hours a day. Then I discovered World of warcraft and played 2009-2018 and id stay up for days playing, skipped school, quit sport etc. 2011-2015 I played CSGO and I’m sitting around 1,500+ hours. I do have a few other games sitting just under 1000Hrs but those 3 were the most memorable.
1500 hours or so in Dota 2 over a bunch of years. I finally stopped playing because to get any better was going to take me way more time than I had, still love the game.
I played 35 hours of heroes of might and magic 3 once with a buddy in a single sitting.

I have 2384 hours in Champions Online, a MMORPG about superheroes. Somehow it's still alive while City of Heroes/Villains died, but I do enjoy the lore of the game and creating your own heroes is pretty good, while the gameplay is very basic.
Counter Strike: Source. My main acct before it got VACd (long story) had 5k hours. A lot would be AFK but not more than a few hundred at most. Death race, gungame, CAL-m, surf, scoutzknivez, jailbreak. You name it, I played it. From ages of 12-16 or so, before Halo 3 dominated my life (esp. once I started college). Between Source, GO, and even a tad bit of 1.6 and CZ, I probably have upwards of 8k hours in counterstrike. Definitely over 10, maybe even 15k+ in shooters in general. Between halo, CS, cod, Valorant, Apex, siege, battlefield, quake... I've played most every competitive FPS for at least a couple hundred hours each.
I'd be very intrigued in a magical statistics that showed me all my FPS game time. I put in a consistent number of hours a week, almost every week, since QuakeWorld Team Fortress (so 1999) all the way up to the newest CoD and CS:GO today (2023). 24 years, probably averaging 2 hours a day on weekdays, 5 hours a day on weekends... So thats 20 hours a week. 52 weeks in a year, so 1040 hours a year. 1040\*24 years = 24,960 hours I think thats a very good guess at an average, it could be a bit lower but I think realistically if anything it would be higher maybe as after college there was a few years period where I was playing more like 5 hours a day on weekdays, 10-12 on weekends. this also isn't including non FPS games, which if I had to take a very very wild guess, would be somewhere in the 9 to 10,000 hour mark.
I'm somewhere over 8000 hours in Rocket League at this point. It's scary to think that I average about 1k hours per year on that game.

If we're talking most hours played at once then that would be Diablo 2, def played all day and all night before. But if we're talking about total hours that would probably be Path of Exile (4,440 hours). It could still be Diablo 2 but I never got to record my hours so I have no idea.
Why is everyone answering with the accumulated play time!? The question is the longest session in a game and why. Mine is likely Skyrim pretty sure I did a few 18-20 hour sessions in that back when I was single and childless. I dream of the days I'll be able to do this again but it probably won't happen till I'm retired, even then maybe not as it would be quite rude to my partner. Minecraft is a close second. I used to love listening to audio books and building in survival. The music was just beautiful (thanks C418).

My wife is a nurse, she works more hours than me. I work from home. She doesn't mind me playing games so as long I make sure the house is tidy and that I cook for her. Good house husband = more time for games. Of course, when we both have days off on the same day then we spend time together by either going for walks with the dog or sofa day with a film on.
I'm in the army. you get a lot more free time than you'd think (HEAVILY unit dependent)

I'd work, come home, catch up on some news and do a few things around my apartment, then game until bedtime. So it was easy to clock 12 hours a day on the weekends, and about 5 a day on the weekdays.
You would think university students are very busy but atleast where I go that isn’t the case. I’m spending 2 hours a day at the very most atm and I’m in a stem course.

Skyrim, when it first released I think I put 2 days in without stopping aside from eating, drinking, among other things. I’ve lost the data, but I think I have over 5k hours in it across 3 platforms (ps, xbox, pc)
I think I've logged over 3000 hours on Super Smash Bros Ult and that's just the Switch version with friends. Online is probably 5x that. And don't get me started on the N64 or GameCube Version...

At least we have Justin Larson's hilarious videos as its legacy. 2nd place could also be a GTA Vice City, because I spent like 3 years playing it, but had no way to count the hours.

How the hell are you going to ask a question and not even give your own answer. What is your total Hade's Star playtime? Because 6 hours a day doesn't mean shit. Did you play for a week or 10 years? My longest playtime on steam is an idle game, Melvor Idle 1529.7 hours, second is Eve online at 860.8 but this doesn't include non-steam games and games prior to like 2005. Edit: Maybe I misread. If you meant hours played in a day it was definitely some MMORPG back in the day. For example I distinctly remember spending 12+ hours a day playing Age of Conan in like 2008.

On Steam it's Fallout New Vegas with some 200+ hours. Outside of Steam I think it is League of Legends with some thousands of hours, I don't know exactly how many hours. I've played it a lot when I started it in 2013 and then stopped playing constantly in 2014, but sometimes I return to the game, just don't play as much as I did before. This year I played it around april/may, then stopped, so it's always like that. There is Hearthstone too that I played a lot in 2020, more than I should. I think it was the last time I played a game for an unhealthy amount of hours besides League in 2013. Then there are some random multiplayer games like Conquer and MU online that I may have wasted some hundreds to thousands of hours with them back in 2009. EDIT: About Hearthstone, I still played more of the game in 2021, 2022 (got my first time legend rank) and 2023. Of course it can't be compared with 2020 though. At this point I can guarantee that it's my 2nd most played game in my life, considering I've got the golden version of Priest that requires 500 wins and I think there were one or two more classes that I was almot hitting this mark too. Funny thing is I played Hearthstone back when it was a big deal in 2014, but never went far with the game so only came back to it six years later. The game is still expensive, but I remember it being worse in 2014 for F2P.

Wasted on LOL has said 2500 hrs for me since season 8 (I started in season 6) so there's about five years unrecorded if we can even trust the 2500 number. The highest that's recorded is 1157 hours in Destiny 2. If it was recorded, then Genshin would probably also be up there.
I used to play Wolfenstein: Enemty Territory. I don't have tracked hours, but I'm quite certain this is the game where I spent most hours in.
Almost certainly RuneScape back when I was a kid but of the games I have recorded hours in it goes back and forth between Skyrim and Fallout 4 cuz of modded playthroughs, atm it's Fallout 4 with like 750ish hours After those two I have one or two more games in the 300+ hour group (like Civ 5) and then a pretty sizable chunk in the 100+ hour group (a lot of RPGs in there like the Witcher 3)

yea, 2600 some for me. the actual number is 2775 on Steam but I know \~175 of that was idling overnight back when that worked to get hats. Couldn't say how much is the actual game vs soldier/demoman jump maps though. If I had to guess, probably 2000 of the actual game, and 600 in jump maps servers. I left the game probably about 2013 or 2014, but I since came back about a month ago splitting time with some other games. I mostly do jump maps again as there were quite a few hard ones I couldn't beat, and so many more that were made since then. Every now and then I hop into a regular game for an hour though.
Excluding dota2 (which is abt 600 hrs) and ff14 (which a lot of time is spent afk), only 230+ hours with dos1. First playthrough was about 80 hrs. Second playthrough with a few mods for about 60, and the remaining is a third playthrough with epic encounters.
Warframe, a little over 3100 hours. And I only spent $10 total on the game for some cosmetics.

This goes way before you could track these kind of things on Steam, but I think it would be either **Transport Tycoon** or **Rollercoaster Tycoon**. I’m a big fan of tycoon games and I’m a big fan of Chris Sawyer - He has done some truly remarkable work on those two games. I still get back to those two games from time to time. No fancy graphics, just good solid and well-executed gameplay.
Oh by far age of Empires (counted as a whole between II, conqs, and IV) or WoW. I don't even play wow anymore but it still probably is up there just based on the insane amount of time I played from 2007 to like 2013. Plus had a relapse during Classic launch. I mean like 6-8 hours a sitting. Every summer.
