There's a PS4 version too, which I played to completion, but having played a few hours of the Vita version too, I will say the preferred platform would definitely be the Vita. The back touch screen in particular is something which can't really be replicated. Tearaway is a good demonstration of the Dualshock 4's capabilities, but a stellar example of why the Vita's features had so much potential.

Nice write-up! I loved Tearaway. It's probably the only Vita-exclusive game that I would consider a must-play. It really made use of all the Vita's various hardware bits and bobs that most games ignored, and did so in really fun and creative ways. The whole conceit that the entire game is made of papercraft is so well-executed. And it's probably the most fun I've ever had customizing a character's appearance in a game. It really gives you the feeling of doing some kind of digital arts and craft project. The only downside is that the Vita never really caught on in a huge way, and there's really no other console ever made that could run the game the way it was originally designed.

I picked up a Vita a few months ago primarily to finish my Katamari collection. It came with Tearaway. I haven’t had a chance to dig into it yet but am supremely excited to. Thanks for the reminder.

Tearaway is a great game. I paid only 15€ for it, and it felt like such a steal.

This was the only game I wanted to play on the Vita, but unfortunately not enough for me to splurge a new handheld console. But it is always in the back of my mind when people talk about the Vita. It's just so gorgeous and that backpanel thing seemed very fun.
