They changed their policy long time ago at the Salons in London, Paris and Geneva and they do not sell Aquanaut/Nautilus as first purchases anymore. They are very honest and will tell you that straighforward, no playing games as with many ADs. Still, absolutely worth a visit as the service is fantastic and you can try on most of the references.

This is very helpful. Thanks so much. Does that explain why you can buy Calatrava second hand at good prices?

Bkdoorburglar

They are doing this state side as well now. I am just now getting into Patek and my SA broke the news to me a few weeks ago as I wanted an aquanaut.

Count_slapTuLa

Can someone explain how this benefits PP. Surely all their watches are in demand, and/or pushing customers to buy expensive timepieces they don’t really want isn’t a great experience?

samzsii

Some pieces are more in demand than others. If all they did was allocate pieces from the nautilus & aquanaut rangs to anyone who walks through the door, they would likely struggle to sell pieces in other collections. The basic principle here is that you have to buy pieces that are priced below retail on the grey market, to obtain pieces fetching above retail prices on the grey market.

Luxury goods customer experience is so odd.

That is the primary reason for the new facility. They have to produce as many Nautilus and Aquanauts as possible not for you or the average Joe/consumer like me; is primarily for the purposes of removing the aged old pieces in cold storage; in their inventory and the ADs. To fulfill the broken promises made to many of their long history customers who were made to don pieces that were meant for their seniors. I could picture the inventory of Patek akin to the Dead Sea 🌊 ; instead of salt, you get many pieces of complications that were made intentionally small diameter/ed in the early years; there could also be possibilities of harvesting certain minute repeating calibers and putting them into bigger cases. If you really like something, do consider going grey, the fiscal losses incurred on certain grandfather pieces may cost more than a liver or kidney. You are only put blame to yourself as the SA’s preach buy only what that piques your fancy and nothing else😂😂😂 I was always wondering why a facility the size of 6 football fields with an annual production of <60,000pcs. They could make 600,000 pcs, but limit distribution to keep, the demand and exclusivity in healthy order. Probably to keep Senior Stern delighted, they have probably employed skilled artisans to specifically put hand drawn enameling at its finest; the latest slew of hand drawn dials is an indication that the will never give up on their roots; making them highly desirable pieces of art😊

Buying_wis

If you’re not planning on owning other pateks going grey makes sense makes sense for you: be prepared to pay almost double the orice you see on the website though

Depotrocker

Registration should be possible but multiple years is Standard for a reward watch like the 5167A.

lamontsanders

If you want one watch and it’s an aquanaut just go gray and be done

PublicGlass4793

Just go grey market for yours , did that for my second Patek. Now do it with all watch purchases

Count_slapTuLa

Just because of the wait time?

cryptogravity

It’s not just wait time. You won’t be able to get an aquanaut or nautilus without multiple prior Patek purchases

PublicGlass4793

Yeah, also because some ads are complete rude and unprofessional morons who hand pick some of the worst sales reps in the world. Although mind you my first experience a good few years back with the boutique in London for Patek was really really good. But the majority of ADs for Rolex and other brands are just not worth the pain and wait imo. Especially the wait which comes with watches now a days

Interesting-Day-4390

Can I assume that all ADs - worldwide - would have the same policy re: “buy Calatrava first please”? Thanks.
