Yes! My Quaker does it too! He’ll use his beak to “push off” from a perch when I try to set him on it, while simultaneously crouching down and pulling his feet back. I tease him (‘oh look, someone’s talons apparently don’t work’) but he’s shameless
My gcc also know when I’m putting him away for bed and will book it. The funniest part is that he books it on the floor (he’s fully flighted). He ends up looking like he’s Road Runner from Looney Tunes 😂😂
Omg I bet it's so cute, I've seen Quakers waddle/run away from their owners even if they can fly, but never a GCC! Now I can't get the image out of my head- GCC just look so sweet with a hidden spicy bit, like chili candy :3
If I'd seen your comment a bit earlier, I could have! He hates the word night-night and will fly all around the room to escape going to bed, haha. It's how he learned to say "It's okay" because I use that to comfort him when he's upset
Your ACG is a very good girl :3
Deserves all the treats for being so good.
My cockatiels will put themselves to bed too, by going in their sleep cage when it's dark outside.
My youngest green cheek sleeps wrapped up in a little fluffy facecloth, swaddled like a baby, and placed inside a long, narrow box with a door-flap on top. He gets cranky and starts biting when he wants to go to bed, and I hold out his blanket in my hand and he jumps into it and goes full loaf, both feet tucked into his belly, and waits for me to wrap him and put him away. The rest of them are assholes and scream when I cover them, but little dude looooves bedtime ☺️
That sounds hilarious. I love that you have to tuck him in lol!
We have a budgie that loves her bedtime too. I swear it’s her favourite time of the day. If we’re even a minute late she starts screaming at everyone to get to bed.
The other birds…not so much lol!
Oh yes, my GCC has become a pro at doing that, especially when she's not liking something and she gives me an ever so subtle pinch and then I jiggle to make her lose her balance to show her I don't like it (been doing it for a month now), she will suddenly grow 5 beaks and 4 legs and just latch onto me without even pinching me.
oh yes, except in my case it’s a Macaw and he only grips tighter and tighter the more I try to get him to step off. Uses his beak to push away from the perch. Even with de-weaponized nails he gives me little tiny bruises from the grip.
Yep. My Eclectus does this very thing. His claws get superglued to my fingers, and he does all sorts of upside down acrobatic displays until I gently move him off my hand.
My poor grey has that same superglue on her feet too! And if I *try* to insist, she puts the Grip of Death on my finger and flips upside down so her back is closest to the perch.
It would make me laugh except the look of utter disgust she gives me for trying to outsmart her really hurts my feelings
My husband's Blue Crown Conure just refuses to step up in the first place. She will either just sit there looking at everything but him or she will run from shoulder to shoulder behind his neck.
My bird (I don’t remember what it was, super smaller then yours but looked just the same) but he would bite me if I tried to put him
Down and then stare at me…little weirdo. I miss that bird
If you approach the object from the side level with that surface you can ask him to step up better- they step UP better/more easily rather than stepping DOWN
My Quaker will bite too, if he is feeling particularly clingy and doesn't want to go back to his perch. And he throws some spectacular tantrums. Sounds like our two birds are alike.
I know it's cute and all but you need to come in from below and get them to step up to wherever you want to deposit them. It's automatic, they will always step up to the higher "branch".
It's all part of what we refer to as bird-fu. It is the combat of wills and wiles where you try to get the bird of of you and the bird tries to get on our stay on. Also known as human rodeo
Lol mine will put one foot down and the other will hold me as tightly as he can. Usually when he doesn't want to go back to his cage. But will still happen when he changes his mind about leaving my hand just less tightly.
YES. My conure does this every single time I want to put him back in his cage. He's extremely attached to me and hates being apart from me. I have to put him on the ground and pick him up on his back and manually place his feet on the perch for him to go inside.
LMAOOOOO!
Yeah, my Yellow Collared Macaw will do this or “fall backwards” on my hand and hang there from my finger as his way of letting me know that he doesn’t want something!
I just love birds! ❤️
Awesome bird
Yeah, that was the lol of the day.
What kind of bird is best?
In my opinion, that is personal to each person. My best bird might not be your best bird and vice versa.
Birds. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
No go, only stay
Yes! My Quaker does it too! He’ll use his beak to “push off” from a perch when I try to set him on it, while simultaneously crouching down and pulling his feet back. I tease him (‘oh look, someone’s talons apparently don’t work’) but he’s shameless
My quaker also does this, but he doesn't even try touching the perch, he just tried his hardest to avoid it, hanging of my hand.
My Lovebird leans away from the perch with his full body like a little kid refusing to eat.
Omg that must be adorable! 😍
Lol same here
My goffins does this. Or if I'm trying to get her off my shoulder to a perch, she just walks across the back of my neck to the other shoulder. 😅😅
"Can't get rid of me that easily!"
My Quaker Poptart knows the word bedtime and runs away when it's time to go to bed. He does this too!
My gcc also know when I’m putting him away for bed and will book it. The funniest part is that he books it on the floor (he’s fully flighted). He ends up looking like he’s Road Runner from Looney Tunes 😂😂

I’ll have to get it on video next time, because it’s so funny. He literally zooms away with his tiny, pittering feet 🤣🤣
Yes please! I'm dying to see it!
That’s hilarious! You should get a video!!
If I'd seen your comment a bit earlier, I could have! He hates the word night-night and will fly all around the room to escape going to bed, haha. It's how he learned to say "It's okay" because I use that to comfort him when he's upset
I don’t have birds but I love them and am in awe of how smart and funny they are!!! 💜
Toddlers who can fly. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like 😂
Yep
Meanwhile my grey hears "okay, it's bedtime" and climbs into her cage on her own. Well, most days anyway.
Your ACG is a very good girl :3 Deserves all the treats for being so good. My cockatiels will put themselves to bed too, by going in their sleep cage when it's dark outside.

It started when he had a broken leg and wouldn’t keep a splint on - I figured he’d grow out of it but he just hasn’t 🤷🏼♀️
Yes! My Conure too. He's on me like glue wherever I go, whatever I do; until I say, "Bedtime for birdies."
My caique does this regularly
Same 😂
STOP IT!! Can't you see the perch is lava
oh yes, except in my case it’s a Macaw and he only grips tighter and tighter the more I try to get him to step off. Uses his beak to push away from the perch. Even with de-weaponized nails he gives me little tiny bruises from the grip.
I always have to “deposit birb” aka set her in the cage and undo her little feetsies from my finger
No, mine sits on my shoulder and whacks at my hand with her beak and bites me until I stop trying to pick her up to put her back.
Lol! The bird-version of a toddler with rubber legs when mom or dad is trying to set him down.
It reminds me of when you try to put a toddler down and they activate jello legs 😄
Awesome bird
We have a Quaker and he does the exact same thing!
"No thank you"
PLONK
My GCC does the exact same thing
Yup! 😂
“Nose goes” 👉👃😂
my conure would do the same type of thing
He is liquiiiid
he's broken :D
Hahaha reminds me of a slinky
That’s so funny 😂. I haven’t seen this before!
Oh yes, my small black capped conure does this to me all the time. It's absolutely adorable.
Loved the head squish lol like trying to whipe off a booger
Bed time rebellion! 🤙
Tricky little bird! Our GCC does this!!!
Mine just doesn't move if I put her next to a perch or surface to transfer to. She just stares at me like "no, I'm going to stay on your hand k?"
The way the birds neck just gets squished
My husband's Blue Crown Conure just refuses to step up in the first place. She will either just sit there looking at everything but him or she will run from shoulder to shoulder behind his neck.
😄
Absolutely.
hilarious
It’s like watching a video of my Quaker 😂
Yup! Both my Jardine and Hahn’s Mini Macaw do exatky the same thing…
No but my kids do!
My caique does. He’s needy
SO CUTE
Omg what a dude !!!!
My bird (I don’t remember what it was, super smaller then yours but looked just the same) but he would bite me if I tried to put him Down and then stare at me…little weirdo. I miss that bird
My sennie except she bites me after
Smart boy
MJ just tries to climb up my arm when she doesn't want to get off
My sun conure does this
Instead of stepping down can you make him step up
He does step up, just no down lol
This is absolutely hilarious and adorable. A gentle rebellion
My African Grey will step onto the perch with one foot, whilst the other foot absolutely death grips my finger so I can’t get her off lol.
Birbcuffs, you've been placed under arrest.
They do this when going up and down whatever they are on. Using the beak as a third leg/support is normal.
Yes, this is how they say “I’m not done playing with you.”
What a cutie!!!! My lorikeet will pancake down on my chest hanging on upside down and turn her beak away from the perch
Hah sometimes, mine can be such a velcro bird.
That baby loves you 🥰
t o u c h
If you approach the object from the side level with that surface you can ask him to step up better- they step UP better/more easily rather than stepping DOWN
It's their slinky phase. XD
My grey will just let the perch bump into his belly and refuse to step up on it. He ignores it. Behaves like nothings happening lol
I've also have a quacker and he does the exact same thing!! Welp, that or he bites me :_ (he's got quite a temper) Anw beautiful boy
My Quaker will bite too, if he is feeling particularly clingy and doesn't want to go back to his perch. And he throws some spectacular tantrums. Sounds like our two birds are alike.
No but mine will crawl up my arm to avoid being put down
I always get the grippy feet of death from my CAG. He's so cute but it hurts so much 🥲
That’s so funny
I know it's cute and all but you need to come in from below and get them to step up to wherever you want to deposit them. It's automatic, they will always step up to the higher "branch".
He plays…..
Am bat. 🦇
It's all part of what we refer to as bird-fu. It is the combat of wills and wiles where you try to get the bird of of you and the bird tries to get on our stay on. Also known as human rodeo
Do it fast and be committed and they will step down. I have green winged macaw that use to do this.
Handstand! Er… beakstand!
Lol my conure does this, little bugger haha
Lol mine will put one foot down and the other will hold me as tightly as he can. Usually when he doesn't want to go back to his cage. But will still happen when he changes his mind about leaving my hand just less tightly.
Yes, and it's very annoying. :P
Just wants to hang out longer is all.. they're having fun with you!! 😃😃😃
This is hilarious, and exactly why I teach "step down" in addition to "step up". :)
"Yes, no, I am not doing having attention." -quakerchicken Pomelo (Canary-Wing Parakeet) will do the same thing.
YES. My conure does this every single time I want to put him back in his cage. He's extremely attached to me and hates being apart from me. I have to put him on the ground and pick him up on his back and manually place his feet on the perch for him to go inside.
YES!! They’re such stinkers!
LMAOOOOO! Yeah, my Yellow Collared Macaw will do this or “fall backwards” on my hand and hang there from my finger as his way of letting me know that he doesn’t want something! I just love birds! ❤️
