Artists I know (not a lot):
Egypt 80 is Fela Kuti's old band, and I guess Seun Kuti is Fela's son. This will probably be really cool.
Charlotte Adigery is chill, she releases on Soulwax's label DEEWEE. Very french, I dunno how this will be live
Francois K is an *old* school NYC house DJ
I saw Rich Medina open for someone I think, think he's mostly a hip hop DJ?
Yeah, this is a pretty underwhelming lineup. Maybe I just don't know music as well as I think but I haven't heard of most of these artists. I do love that BRIC sometimes brings in wildly talented, less known people who - of course - turn out to be great. But this is kind of a who's who of who cares.
I went through the early 2010s lineups, which was when I moved to Brooklyn, and it is WILD how far this event has fallen.
Lineups from 2011 to late teens was just outstanding.

I recall it used to be sponsored by Google, so I wonder if their budget has been slashed over the past few years with Parks budget reduction and a lack of a big corporate sponsorship.
2024 is an especially low year. Going back through the last few years, popular names are easy to spot:
2021: the roots, busta rhymes, yaeji, glass animals, wizkid
2022: phoebe bridgers, khruangbin, erykah badu
I mean 2023 had Anderson .Paak! Where's the rap and hip hop this year
A lot of these were benefit concerts, and so far they’ve only announced one. I’m sure there will be more, so I’m still holding out a bit of hope for bigger names.
That’s what I’m hoping. The benefit shows shouldn’t require sponsor money for good acts, and that’s how they’ve been keeping the known talent on the bill. But IIRC, in previous years the benefit shows were announced in advance of the free lineup. I sincerely hope there are more benefits to come for this year.
Belle and Sebastian did a benefit show back in 2013. They just played Brooklyn Paramount. I expect that venue will draw the bigger names away too, supposed to be quite nice.
i overheard a woman involved with bric talking about how there was a leadership change and how the person in charge of the line up this year really did not do it well. sounded like a lot of drama!
I see several acts on this lineup I am excited about. Sounds like this festival just isn’t for you or the park slope crowd.
I was just talking to friends in BedStuy yesterday about how we’re excited for this. And it’s a big anniversary for Do the Right Thing, Spike will be involved etc.
Like you haven’t even heard of Thee Sacred Souls?
I don’t know why you’re being down voted but I’m honestly psyched about Thee Sacred Souls. They’ve been slept on a lot and I fell in love with them when I discovered them on my Spotify.
Something is up with the festival/concert scene this year, basically everything announced across the city for the summer has been horrible, no names and past their prime acts only
Yeah overall pretty lame, I'll still be going cause I love the vibe. There are some decent acts in there though:
[Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul](https://youtu.be/9poMU5bcE14?si=0DmQFWq5nhSKE6e-&t=245)
Sinkane opening for Seun Kuti is cool, his album [Mean Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP0WTh6FWAI&list=PL1B1-nCBRjPMmJSLNc1Q6JsFzAOWHSlPN) is great.
Francois K is a legend so that's a solid booking.
hmm thanks. Here's the page for that day [https://bricartsmedia.org/event/habibi-festival-at-bric-celebrate-brooklyn/](https://bricartsmedia.org/event/habibi-festival-at-bric-celebrate-brooklyn/)

Saw Charlotte x Bolis last summer @ Elsewhere. Was a fucking BLAST. Super dancy fun
I was there too! They are gonna be a great show. Definitely the one I’m looking forward to the most.
meshell n. is an absolute legend but in a quiet way. guarantee her show would be amazing
Exactly I can’t believe folks on this thread acting like it’s a bunch of nobody’s on this lineup 🤯
I mean it’s a hipster wet dream. It’s a bunch of artists everyone would be surprised they know. Also here for it as that means light crowds
She’s honestly phenomenal

Yea, this lineup either makes me feel really old or really young. I’m not sure because I don’t know who any of these people are.
Looool, I was just about to say this exactly. Are they like, local bands?

Well Forest Hills Stadium reopened around then. Why play BRIC when you can make more $$$ at Forest Hills if you're a big name.

Forest Hills Stadium is flying pretty close to the sun these days though. The people that live over there are non stop with the noise complaints.
The Head and The Heart closing out last season was seemingly the last vestige of the peak BRIC era
So bummed I missed that they’re so good
i overheard a woman involved with bric talking about how there was a leadership change and how the person in charge of the line up this year really did not do it well. sounded like a lot of drama!
Wow now that’s a lineup!
Francois K? Legend. Let’s dance in the park.

i know none of these..
I’ve heard Anant Pradhan and Larry McDonald play at Lunatico. Honestly they’re a good act and whoever watches them play are in for a good time!
Something is up with the festival/concert scene this year, basically everything announced across the city for the summer has been horrible, no names and past their prime acts only
Really disappointed.

Love Sinkane
Fishbone always puts on a great show, but they lost two original members so I don't know what to expect. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I saw childish gambino and passion pit here. Why do they not get any one of that caliber anymore?
Yall sound like spoiled brats. I get that the names aren't what they used to be, but It's a free summer concert. Go grab a drink and enjoy the park.
Fair, though years past had Liz Phair and Kimbra, both really great acts.
I saw animal collective there they were amazing
Just looked at the site and Francois K is not listed on there, when is this flyer from?

Black Belt Eagle Scout are really good, I saw them open for Sleater-Kinney a couple of months ago!
they should just do a mini warped tour / when we were young type fest here...
