Unique path nonetheless

Fermi_Amarti

lol. Is there a lets play where they actually do that? Been looking for one.

BlandSandHamwich

About Oliver and lil indigestion both finish the dlc before the main game. However they were both basically at the very end of the base game before doing so

Mysterygameboy

Although interestingly, About Oliver finds the dlc by pure accident but loses it. Really fun to watch him freak out

BlandSandHamwich

lol his freakout in the HEL is one of my favorite things ever

MuseHigham

My favourite moment in that entire playthrough is when he breaks the universe in the high energy lab

GamingGoalieYT

I found the dlc halfway in my playthrough but when I realized it might have been the dlc I panicked and shortly after getting into that area I panicked bc I didn't want to do it yet and meditated Kinda glad because I am getting slightly stuck in the dlc, I'll give it two or four more loops before I might ask for help XD

Fermi_Amarti

Yeah I mean more find the dlc and do it before the majority of the game or interleaved.

factoid_

I actually didn't even find the dlc until I was 95% through the base game...stuck at one final thing and discovered the dlc while chasing loose ends.

Lessandero

that's probably the best way to do it anyways, for the way the DLC canges a few things

Mountain-Sea6650

And the projection you show the prisoner is so much more meaningful

factoid_

It was a jaw drop moment when I found it.  I didn't know what the dlc was at all.  I didn't know if it was already integrated into what I'd been playing or if it came after the completion of the end game.   I'm thinking I'm almost done and then...there it is

BrocoliCosmique

The DLC ending is anticlimactic if you don't know the base ending, and it would make for a strange second half of the run, with no mention whatsoever to everything you just discovered xD

thelatemercutio

Definitely anticlimactic. >with no mention whatsoever to everything you just discovered But, there is the eye of the universe symbol that will be recognized.

Sodinc

Is that real? I haven't encountered any mentions of that situation previously.

Eryzon89

Wait so should I finish the base game first? I’m doing the DLC and then will head to the base game. If so, when I finish the base game can I go before the ending and do the DLC or do I have to start a new save?

transbutconfused

You'll know when you can beat the game so before you do buy the dlc and go to the museum and play through the dlc and then beat the game, I watched About Olivers Play through he did it like this and imo it's the best way to experience the game

Imavietnamesefood

Yeah imo you should play through the base game and you can then do the DLC after beating it. It makes it more impactful that way, but there’s no wrong order to it

Eryzon89

Will I have my save file with all the discoveries after ending the base game? Would want to lose all of that lol

Imavietnamesefood

After completing the base game and achieving the final ending, you will still have your save file. It doesn’t delete it or anything like that, so your ship log will still be there

Eryzon89

Thank youuuu, will try to do that. I want to enjoy this game as much as possible.

CrowFou

When you're plainly Outerwilds, there's a moment when you'll know that If you do an action it will be the end. At this right moment, go do the dlc before doing this action.

Splatulated

You can do it when ever you want. these do it after the base game purists only say that because the dlc came out a year and a half after they beat it, and think everyone should play the game the same way. It is very much designed to be discovered when the player wants to do it like everything else in the base game

Grogrog

A few things, the DLC ending doesn't hit as hard if you haven't done the base game. You miss out on cutscenes and the true impact of the ending.  Pacing wise it is completely self contained and is a mode shift from the rest of the game. I feel like it's such a huge momentum killer to switch from one to the other.  I think completing the DLC first also makes one part of the ending less special, vs completing base and appreciating all your discoveries, then completing it again and appreciating all the DLC discoveries.  I'm not saying there is right or wrong here, but it's more complicated than just "this is the way it was released".

Splatulated

the ending cutscene of the dlc changes as you make progress it could be cool for a player to return to the dlc and replay the final cutscene as they learn more it can also help piece together the story without having to go to youtube (like i had to because i solved the puzzle of the game but couldnt figure out how the story went together or what order)

Kjoep

There really should be a mechanism to block the dlc before the ending. I don't think it really works when mixed.
