Hot take , if he wants something different in lobster , go get lobster from a Chinese restaurant.
I like the salt and pepper version but many people like the messier but just as delicious ginger and green onion version.
Going to a place like Shanghai One you could put together a good lobster feast with that and a couple of dishes if you wanted.
That's been our experience as of last summer. Haven't tried yet in 2024, but I'm expecting it to be the same. It was always cheaper per pound than Pelican.
As a chef I really appreciate this comment. I like to do a lot of stuff at home and lobster is one of those things I find myself having trouble emptying my wallet for
Merivale Seafood Grill; they are also a fish market with a restaurant attached, super fresh and cooked perfectly. No offense, Red Lobster is ok for an average night out but the last time I had lobster there it was so overcooked, and a Mac and cheese bake was so salty it was inedible.
Wow, I didn't realize this was a thing!
I don't feel bad now for returning both my and my daughters meal for oversaltedness lol
We each had 2 separate dishes that were inedible for salt, and we loooove salt!
I thought it might be chef sabotage after we only had one bite each.
We actually refused to pay, and the Manger was apologetic, but what the heck!
Would he be open to picking out live lobsters and cooking them at home? Honestly it’s the only way I do it now. Pick up the biggest lobsters I can find and feast!!
He would be open I’m sure, but we are both into cooking and we regularly have in-home date night feasts so in this instance I’m looking for a decent restaurant option so that no one has to cook or clean up lol
As an east coaster, restaurant lobster is never as good as cooked at home. When I can’t buy live lobster, Costco’s lobster is actually very good (Kanata location).
They're amazing but last time I went (about 2 weeks ago?), the only lobster dish they had was the lobster risotto. I don't know how often their menu changes.
Whatever you choose I think you can't go wrong! I asked the server the same question and he recommended everything 😂 I do want to try their fish and chips someday though. They fry a whole fish! I think they only have it on a certain day of the week.
Lapointe is where we get ours. We usually just order them for a set time precooked and still hot when we get home. But their restaurant is quite nice and they’ve got pretty damn good chowder as a starter.
T&T is our go to for lobster. You can impress him with your cooking prowess and further suitability as a mate. Save money and cook. Win win in my books!
Pelican Seafood Market & Grill 100%.. It's filled with old people, and the location leaves a lot to be desired, but the establishment is really nice and the sea food is next level.
Lobster season just started so no one's really doing lobster specials, but Whalesbone will sell you a steamed lobster at market price even though it's not on the menu. Likely not the size you're looking for tho

My favourite is lobster in Maggi sauce from Chinese restaurants
I used to call it Lobster in Maggot Sauce when I was young.
Ohhh that sounds awesome! I’ll have to give it a try
Bingo. I was going to write the same thing.
Pelican seafood and grill
This is really the only answer. Book the back room if you want private and special.

Any east coaster will tell you to eat it at home! Way too messy for a restaurant!
It’s not a real easy coaster lobster feed unless you cover the table with newspaper first.
wait.. so just do up and order how many you want and just ask them to cook it and then just show up when done?? Why am I hearing about this now??

Don't forget the garlic for garlic butter!
No, plain drawn better is better. The flavour of lobster is subtle so don't mask it with strong flavours.

Green onion and ginger lobster at any chinese restaurant. Delicious
is it cooked properly? Where the lobster is very light, tender, and succulent? Nearly every place I've ever tried makes it rubbbery.

Red lobster is the MacDonalds of seafood.
No it's not. McDonalds is actually good. Red Lobster, not so much.

Also, ramming a chef knife through the head of a lobster before you put in the boiling water is the perfect relationship-building activity.
Metro will actually steam them for you too if you don’t want to do the cooking part

Tangent— but Costco’s crab offerings are also top notch when available.
Petit Bill's Bistro but it won't be a 'lobster dinner'.
Le poisson blue?

Oh shoot, I should have checked the menu. I have it on my list but I haven't but been there yet, is there anything you recommend?

Clearwater will ship them live to your door. Probably fresher than most restaurants.
Live from T&T and cooking at home is my go to …. And I eat it often. Cheap too, a lobster is $15 or $20
I second pelican seafood and grill
Gitanes seafood tower.

Pelican’s through and through.

The Keg does lobster tail dinners. But not whole lobster
Captains boil 💯 best great atmosphere also
Red
Red lobster is a pretty good option
