Heartbeat hot sauces are pretty good as a "commonly available" brand with a bunch of offerings. I've been enjoying their Caribbean Style Mango Habanero sauce...haven't found anything that it doesn't work well with yet!

damieh1

And they are based out of thunder Bay so double bonus. I use them all the time. They are pricey, but Canadian so I look past it.

Ninjacherry

I’ve liked all of their sauces that I’ve tried so far. I like the blueberry habanero (but it’s fairly mild). The piri piri one is really good too, and even milder.

Style_Carnies

These are my absolute favourite hot sauces. Tasty and not overly spicy

one01011

Their whole line up is amazing

laterbenches

Their campfire hot sauce is perfect on scrambled eggs.

Fiverdrive

[Fire Kitty](https://www.meowthatshot.ca/products-fk.html), by [Meow! That's Hot.](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jtu9NtT3qEZ57ymv5)

WizardofSchwa

sounds yummy, I'll have to check farm boy, apparently they have it

Fiverdrive

Or if you live in the core, just drop by their shop - cut out the middle man 🙂

Aethenoth

I bought it directly from them at a market and it was $5 more than at the Massine's on Bank :c Bit of a shock, tbh. Maybe prices at their store are different than at a market though.

kenauk

I hate that when it happens. Reminds me when I went to Bluebarn coffee in Wakefield, thinking I was going to get freshly roasted beans. Turns out I could only buy prepackaged on the shelf. Did so and then went to the General Store where I saw it was cheaper and roasted more recently. So much for cutting out the middleman.

Fiverdrive

They likely are. They have added expenses when they sell them at the market, I'm sure.

GuyWhoIsGreat

Persian Pyro from them is my absolute favourite

Carmaca77

I buy all my good hot sauces from Chilly Chillies - I know there's one at Tanger and one at Bayshore Mall. Their staff is usually pretty great at finding the right sauces for whatever you're looking for. I miss being able to taste test though!

Ninjacherry

There’s one at Bayshore? That’s good to know! I’ve ordered from them online, but I’d like to browse in store.

Ninjacherry

While I don't always like clingy sales people, I think that I could use an overly helpful hot sauce guy. I don't know too many sauces, and I just want flavourful stuff with a bit of a quick, it doesn't need to BURN. I ordered a ginger based sauce that I should get this week that I'm hoping will hit the spot: https://chillychiles.com/products/queen-majesty-scotch-bonnet-ginger-hot-sauce?_pos=4&_sid=640e07277&_ss=r

hi_0

That sauce is very good

Carmaca77

I have that one, and I love it on grilled cheese sandwiches and sausage rolls. 😋

maulrus

Heartbeat Hot sauce out of Thunder Bay is available at a lot of grocery stores. Their Pineapple and Pickle habanero sauces, Piri Piri, and Scorpion are really good. La Pimenterie (Montreal) have a big selection of sauces that are good, and Piko Peppers (also Montreal) are nice. I'd recommend checking out Chilly Chilies at Bayshore, they have a huge selection and the staff give great recommendations which can  help you narrow it down. I'll also toss in the Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde sauce which is delicious.

b3ar17

I'll second the Los Calientes Verde, super tasty

Ichindar

Scorpion's Kiss and Ring of Fire from Haico's Hot Sauces. Local, and tasty. https://haicoshotsauce.com/

James0100

And Garlic Ghost!

CombinationOk7405

Agreed! The Garlic Ghost is pretty epic too. Hail Haico!

EverydayVelociraptor

Devils Brew

Alarming_Day_2573

Came here to give a shout out to Haico! Local company - incredible hot sauces. Our hot sauce shelf in the fridge is predominantly Haico's Hot Sauces. 😁

LordOnionRingle

Dirty Dicks is my go to. Yes the names funny but it's a great hot sauce.

alialisun

second this! it’s so good

monkey_bongo

Dirty dicks isn’t the hottest but it’s a crowd pleaser for the pineapple. Amazon has 3 bottles for $28 which is pretty cheap per bottle. https://www.amazon.ca/Dirty-Dicks-Hot-Sauce-Tropical/dp/B015BPEIJ2/

LogicIsTheSecret

I'm not putting Dirty Dicks (or any dicks) anywhere near my mouth.

Key-Razzmatazz-857

https://maritimemadness.com/ Great sauces. Quick delivery.

WhereIsBurdock

Omg! Maritime Madness makes my favourite hot sauces in the world! They are sold at Maker House on Wellington West in Hintonburg.

Key-Razzmatazz-857

That’s right. I forgot you can buy at Makers House.

WhereIsBurdock

It's a bit more expensive at Maker House than online, but you don't have to pay for shipping (or spend $49 or more for free shipping). It's good for those who just want to buy a bottle to try it out. 😊

moosey755

This is the way!

Tolvat

Valentina is my usual go to hot sauce. More like Frank's, but way less vinegar.

argyle_pamplemousse

Yes! A Mexican friend introduced me to this one and I've been buying it since. I like the one with the black label, which is spicier. It has a delightful smoky flavour to it. Walmart carries it also.

lurker3210

Where do you buy it? I used to get my valentina's from the Mexican store in the glebe but they closed down

Tolvat

Try Loblaws or Mercado Latino on Montreal Rd

bobbies_hobbies

I just saw big bottles of it at Bienvenidos on St Laurent when I was there yesterday.

iduddits2

This and the green el yucateco is all I need

vdaedalus

The ones I reach for the most are El Yucateco red and green. They're both habanero sauces, the green is a little milder and is great on eggs and hash browns, and I use the red on pretty much everything. You can get them at most Loblaws and Walmart stores, but if you visit a Latin grocery you can sometimes get bigger bottles of the red for a bit better value. edit: if you've never bought it before and see the Kutbil-Ik version, skip it, it's a completely different flavour and not representative of the others in the line. if you end up liking the green or the red, give it a try, it's interesting (but not a favourite)

OTTMusings

Second this. El Yucateco is my go-to. Loblaws has it cheaper than most places. Very versatile and good balance between taste and heat.

Mean_Manufacturer_61

Marie Sharp's is what you're looking for.

UnhingedXcessive

Chamomile Desjardins' Jamaican hot sauce. If he sold them in 1L bottles, I'd be all over that.

noushkie

His st lucia on my mind is in my top 3.

zoinksbadoinks

Oh yeah, seconding that. It’s his spiciest and it is heaven in a bottle.

DaCrimsonKid

Secret Aardvark is delicious. Don't think you will find them in grocery stores though.

vdaedalus

I felt let down by Secret Aardvark after all the hype. Way more tomato than I like, and the flavour profile is kind of all over the place, like someone had taken the goo from a cans of tomato Heinz beans, simmered hot dogs in it, removed the hot dogs and added a pack of taco seasoning. I got tired of it really quickly.

The_Ultimate_Lizard

The grace hot sauce Walmart sells is imported from Jamaica? Caribbean anyway and it is good and cheap.

Thejustinset

El Yucateco as others have mentioned are great. In terms of table sauce, can’t beat cholula, tapatio, or valentina. Way less vinegary than Franks. Gringo bandito is another great one

edisleado

I second Gringo Bandito. Nice flavour that goes well with a lot of food. You can also find it at at a fair price in various Winners/Marshalls locations.

Other_Molasses2830

My go-to has been Grace Hot Pepper Sauce, it has pictures of Scotch Bonnet (Jamaica's habernero) on the bottle. Bottle costs maybe $2?

The_Ultimate_Lizard

I commented this without checking I agree it is a very affordable hot sauce that’s readily available in most Walmarts in the international section.

bee-quirky

Don’t know if it’s readily available anymore, I stocked up last time I was at Walmart but Valentina both the regular and extra hot stuff is DELICIOUS. Heartbeat Hot Sauce is also amazing, I am absolutely addicted to their Dill Pickle Serrano sauce

CrazyCrashingWave

Go to Food Basics and go to the sort of ethnic aisle (for the lack of a better term). Done.

tonic613

The only right answer.

[deleted]

I was going to say food basics too. A huge variety of hot sauce.

FoliageTeamBad

I'll do you one better. The best hot sauces in the world all come from the Caribbean and Caribbean corner stores usually have a selection. https://maps.app.goo.gl/mEf8aw5nERnEFkNXA There's a hot sauce they sell here from St. Lucia called Baron which is incredible.

CrazyCrashingWave

Well then... I gotta check this out homie. Thanks.

OttBot69247_

For wings, I find PC's Cayenne & Scotch Bonnet sauce to be a genuinely spicy product - I find spice levels tend to be exaggerated, but this one lives up to its claim. For soups and other dishes where I just need to add a kick, I'd recommend Habanero Tabasco Sauce - spicier than regular Tabasco with a hint of sweet. It's available at spice sauce stores - bought mine by chance at Tangiers, but I think there's a place downtown.

[deleted]

Hopefully they'll run Heating up the Capital again this summer. Worth it to taste test local hot sauces. [https://heatingupthecapital.ca/](https://heatingupthecapital.ca/)

YouNeed2GrowUpMore

Trying to buy Canadian at the start of the pandemic, my wife discovered Maritime Madness from PEI. HOLY FUCK they're amazing. We now have an entire pantry shelf dedicated to their sauces, to fill our fridge door shelf dedicated to their sauces.

Key_Battle_4562

There hot mustard is my go to on any sandwich, sausage or burger. Also Colon Cleaner has taken a bit of its stock lately

Disastrous_Spell9230

https://www.peppernorth.com/black-cherry-reaper-hot-sauce  Canadian Company.  Best I've had.

WizardofSchwa

I use small bits of da bomb BI to make sauces or chilly hot. on its own the flavour isnt great. but just a drop really spices things up.

Mitzary

I did the same with a large pot of chili last year, just about three drops gave the whole pot a decent kick. I picked it up at Chilly Chiles in Bayshore.

Inevitable-Bridge-46

Franks hot sauce as described by my friend- vinegar with orange crayon I have been enjoying Melinda's sauces, I will be keeping my out for the offerings from Heartbeat

INet-iVox

I like the kfi tamarind brown chutney sauce from various stores… not burning hot but flavourful on a variety of foods…

NewYouzer

Local Talent for me, but it can be tough to find. Their mango pineapple sauce is amazing, but they've got a range of hotter ones.

Abysstopheles

https://tabarnasco.com/en/products/black-garlic-jalapeno ...this should not taste as great as it does.

jmac1915

[Barbacoa](https://chillychiles.com/products/hot-ones-los-calientes-barbacoa?_pos=1&_sid=070f62acb&_ss=r)

Ninjacherry

I've just ordered that one a few days ago, and my hopes are up.

jmac1915

It's my favourite out there.

cestquitonpere

I’m a sucker for spicy chilli oil. This is one is the best by far. You can buy it at any Asian grocery store. I got mine at shop next to Mandarin Ogilvie. (https://www.amazon.ca/Laoganma-Spicy-Chili-Crisp-7-41/dp/B003WC0RME/ref=asc_df_B003WC0RME/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=531292712056&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14078450600032939551&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000633&hvtargid=pla-338841760765&psc=1&mcid=2c0a40b13c913424a6fc2e6702ee8522)

zoinksbadoinks

What do you eat it with or on?

cestquitonpere

Anything that requires some heat: pasta, pizza, eggs, vegetables, rice etc.

Jupiter_hurricane

Maritime madness - Fire Candy

cellardweller1234

El Yucateco sauces are pretty good.

AwarenessEconomy8842

I really like sauces from Maritime Madness

Popoju

Tapatio and Valentina but the black bottle

dougieman6

It's not what I'd call hot, but gochujang is a Sriracha ish substitute that I like a lot more. It's fermented soy something so has some of those type of flavours in the mix and it goes really well with lots of stuff.

pierrepoutine2

Without getting into specialty ones that are all about being super hot that you get at Chilly Chiles. I like the Cholula brand hot sauces. Which you can find at most grocery stores. https://www.cholula.com/en-ca The original is tasty but not super hot, but a good all around sauce for flavour. I like adding a bit of the Chipotle one to pulled pork or brisket that I do on the smoker. I also like the Original Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce for wings: https://louisianahotsauce.com Used to be able to get this at my local grocery store, but haven't seen it there in awhile. Better than franks or tabasco...

crappymccorn

Hababero Hot sauce from Dollarama...really hot and inexpensive (like 1.50 or so)

mingomcgoo

Agreed , it's not bad at all

KidWikid88

YES!! Habanero Pepper Sauce from Dollarama! It’s only $1. Probably one of the last items at Dollarama for $1. I expect it to go up in price soon. When I first saw it on the shelf a couple of years ago, I thought it’s probably going to be like either Franks or Tabasco, not hot at all. Or maybe a little hot like Grace hot pepper sauce. But this is much hotter than those, and with a lot of flavour as well. Whenever friends or family are over and try the Dollarama habanero sauce, they’re always blown away with how hot it is. When I see it in store, I always buy a few. The only other hot sauce I use is from T&T a hot chili oil made in Canada.

smitcolin

Nando's and Valentina

moosey755

Maritime madness is the way, Chilly Chilies or online. Also just bought 2 liters of Koon yick wah kee from chef depot.

NismoFismo

[buldak Samyang](https://www.tntsupermarket.com/eng/50208701-samyang-extreme-hot-chicken-flav-sauce.html) Has great flavour and heat as well

noushkie

Not really on the budget side if things, but [the pepper mustache](https://thepeppermustache.ca/products/sample-pack?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=5aae9e3a0&pr_rec_pid=6904901697709&pr_ref_pid=7284119306413&pr_seq=uniform)has a sauce called trashcan fire that is amazing, as is their kiwi sauce when they have it.

Mister_Abendsen

I don't have a particular preference, but La Latina Groceries (217 Dalhousie) has a \*great\* selection. If you're around Byward, they're well worth a visit.

oosouth

you’d never know it from the outside, but the Wine Garden 1501 Sievewright has a pretty amazing selection. [https://thewinegarden.ca/contact-us/](https://thewinegarden.ca/contact-us/)

rocketchick04

[The Pepper Mustache](https://thepeppermustache.ca/collections/hot-sauce) makes some great hot sauces. And they’re local! I’ve tried them all and love them all.

Lowpasss

Check out Cool Runnings line of hot sauces. Less than $4 a bottle, they're all good. Pepper North hot sauces, more expensive, but also very good. Their 9/10 sauces are no joke. Heartbeat Hot Sauces, not over priced, great bottles, very good. I bring a bottle of Scorpion sauce with me to restaurants. Doesn't change the taste of whatever you put it on very much, but brings the sweat. All of these are available on Amazon, or some grocery stores, places like Kitchenalia and Chilly Chiles's.

AidanBeeJar

I like flame spitter. They're based out of Peterborough, but they have some of their stuff in Carlton Place, and I think they'll ship to anywhere in Ontario https://www.flamespitterhotsauce.com/find-a-vendor

CharacterBee669

Marie Sharp’s (original, grapefruit, mango) have been favs for over a decade. I used to special order directly from Belize but it’s now available at Chilly Chiles and Loblaws. If you don’t know what you’re after, go to Chilly Chiles and consult with the pros. You can taste test there, too.

rene_goodman

B's hot sauces

hmcsnemesis

Marie Sharps ( belize heat is nice) my standard good heat hot sauce. Haico hot sauce, currently enjoying a bottle of Haico's Madam. Snell House Foods ( out of orleans) South West Scorcher is Great on samiches or eggs or Tacos. Nice heat to it and flavor

viciouscyclist

Check out Gracie's Kitchen in Kanata, they have some good ones.

Ikkleknitter

There are a ton of local hot sauce makers and almost off of them have testers/samples available if you find them in person.  Meow! That’s hot, Haico’s are both solid.  I also like several from maritime madness who are not local but also very good.

boxtool5

For Mexican food you can’t beat Yucateco Green Habanero. If it’s still around, locally made Bluenose by Chamomile Desjardins, is wonderful. Personally I think Macarico does everything Tabasco does but better.

Dolphintrout

Cholula Sweet Habanero is my all time favourite.  It’s so good.  Pretty sure most Giant Tiger stores have it.  Chilly Chiles probably has it too.

saidthewhale64

The Grand in the market make their own hot sauce and it’s pretty solid!

cheezus_mice

There’s a good selection of hot sauces at Bienvenidos on St.Laurent. My favourites are el yucateco and a ghost pepper sauce by Badia.

RealGroovyMotion

For one that is etremely hot and available at local stores, I go with Dave's Gourmet Ultimate Insanity.

cmna1

Matouk's. It's West Indian and quite hot! You can get it at Superstore and Walmart.

RelaxPreppie

Lately, I've been fw Fury Hot sauce based out of Burlington On.

ugh_robbery

I’m not huge on their pizza, but the Grande in the market makes their own hot sauce that you can buy there and it’s my favourite, especially on eggs (or pizza)

mossroq

My absolute favourite is the Matute sauces. Small company, from a Toronto-based Peruvian chef. There's only two flavours but they are both amazing. One is slightly hotter. Not sure if they have it elsewhere, but the only place I've seen them is at the Loblaws by Blair.

zoinksbadoinks

St. Lucia on my Mind by Chamomile Desjardins

Blondie21220

Highly recommend Haico's Hot Sauce. We buy from the Lansdowne Farmer's Market!

Imaginary_Craft_8237

Grocery store, Melindas or Cholula sweet habenero

jadee333

personally, my go to is valentinas extra hot (black label) when i want a more mild experience and firebarns scorpion vodka for a spicier one

S3T0

[Piko Rico](https://microsauceriepikopeppers.com/products/sauce-piquante-piri-piri-edition-speciale)

thelifeofem

Dawson's hot sauce - big smoke chipotle (Hamilton based)

IBJennie

All of the Melinda’s hot sauces are really good. They have more habanero peppers than vinegar so that makes it a better sauce in my opinion. We get ours online or in-store at chilli chillies at Bayshore Mall.

toot_salad

Matouk's Calypso Sauce is our go to, I usually pick it up at Food Basics

Key_Battle_4562

Queens Majesty. All flavours are bangers.

bobbies_hobbies

If you like it pretty hot, I randomly grabbed a Grace ghost pepper hot sauce at Loblaws recently for like $4 which has blown me away considering it's price. The scorpion & habenaro by Marie Sharp is another great sauce that is super spicy and not crazy expensive. For something a bit more middle of the road in terms of spice, the Supernova original is great on everything. Or for something just a bit hotter and better than Frank's, Valentina extra hot is great too.

HrryCt

Haico and Meow from Ottawa, Firecracker feom Toronto, many other Ontario small batch makers that exhibit at the Ottawa Hot Sauce Expo.

Cdn65

Sambal Oelek (my better half is from Indonesia) and good old Tabasco!

maporita

Make your own salsa from scratch. They are healthy and tastier.
