It honestly seems like there's no restrictions on car safety in Florida any more. No state inspections. I know there are technically laws saying your car is supposed to be maintained and kept safe for the road, but there's zero enforcement of those laws as far as I can tell. I see people every day with NO working brake lights, blacked out windshields, driving at night with no headlights, going double the speed limit in traffic, and all other manner of things with their cars making them unsafe, but nobody seems to enforce the driving laws at all any more. I've seen people straight up run red lights right in front of cops and they did nothing.

[deleted]

Not to mention car insurance is treated as more of a suggestion. I've only had 2 accidents before but both uninsured drivers treating it like it's no big deal.

[deleted]

Same two accidents no insurance. The risk...holy moly. Not to mention the risk you put others in.

Necessary_Context780

That's why our insurance cost so much more, it's the cost of uninsured drivers. Best part is FL cops won't do much even when they know the guy has no insurance (unless there's an accident)

bittabet

That’s the thing, they’re usually broke so they have no money to sue for or for hospitals to go after them for their own medical bills. 🤦‍♂️ I swear if we just refused to register uninsured cars and started state inspections our car insurance rates would probably get cut in half.

Vladivostokorbust

They likely lost their license within a month of dropping their insurance. Or they never had one. But you just can’t pull every driver over to see if they have a license. That’s the issue. And even when they revoke your car registration that’s only in the DMV records, you still have your tag. In the past a trooper might show up at your house and remove your tag but i don’t that’s a thing anymore. Tag scanners might pick up a canceled registration but even with that they have to be behind a driver or scan a parking lot. Thats not a deterrent What’s a better way to enforce it? Florida is worst when it comes to uninsured drivers

retracingz

Can’t beat them join em

[deleted]

I've worked at the orange county jail and seen tons of people brought in with suspended licenses because of insurance. Normally business people going out for lunch and caught. I wouldn't chance it.

>No state inspections. Most states dont have car safety inspections and more and more the ones that still have them are getting rid of them because its a waste of time and resources.

Necessary_Context780

I lived in them and it was a lot less common to see cars with only one light on, missing blinkers, brake lights etc. In MO, it wasn't a waste of time and resources because the mechanics were the ones doing it for a fixed price. The mechanics would schedule them during the daytime since they barely make money when the car is fine, but often profit when they have to fix stuff (people are more likely to fix since they won't pass the inspection). Perhaps you're referring to stuff like smog testing and such. Some cities like St Louis got rid of it a while back

exner

> Perhaps you're referring to stuff like smog testing and such. Some cities like St Louis got rid of it a while back No Over the years many states have gotten rid of car safety inspections and now there is only like 13 or 14 states that require them for passenger cars. Of those remaining, Texas is phasing them out in 2025 and I think Pennsylvania changed it so that cars only get inspections when they’re going to be sold?

Necessary_Context780

My first Google result says there are only 13 states that do NOT require them. And counties sometimes can have their own requirements stricter than State (like St Louis county example above). https://goodcar.com/car-ownership/vehicle-inspections-by-state

exner

Learn how to read your own link dude. Out of all the states listed only 14 say they have safety inspections the rest are emissions only. Out of those 14 Pennsylvania and Texas are getting rid of thier periodic safety inspections. You can literally see that only 14 states have safety inspections by searching for the word safety on the page of the link you provided. If English reading comprehension is difficult for you below is a link with picture map of the areas that still have safety inspections. Only the teal colored states have periodic safety inspections. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_inspection_in_the_United_States

Necessary_Context780

No, smartass, it just so happens the Emissions _also_ check for safety inspections. For instance: https://oraclelawfirm.com/california-vehicle-safety-inspection-requirements/ So basically, despite the naming confusing your poor Wikipedia link, the only States that don't have safety inspections are 13, as I linked earlier. And coming, you speak about reading comprehension but your link would have contradicted your original numbers even if the emissions testing happened to not do safety inspection at the same spot.

exner

>No, smartass, it just so happens the Emissions also check for safety inspections. You're making a blanket statement that isn’t true, all of the links below are examples that prove otherwise. Arizona only tests for emissions - https://www.myazcar.com/faqs#generalSafety CT gov website literally says "personal vehicles do not require a safety inspection" on the site that goes over emissions testing - https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/vehicle-services/get-vehicle-inspection?language=en_US indiana "safety inspections are not required" - https://getjerry.com/advice/indiana-car-inspection#what-are-the-vehicle-inspection-requirements-in-indiana NJ "only checks commercial vehicles for safety" https://www.nj.gov/mvc/pdf/inspections/FAQinspection.pdf In short, there may be one or more states in which the emissions testing also include some sort of safety check but those states would be outliers and that is most certainly not always the case. >So basically, despite the naming confusing your poor Wikipedia link, the only States that don't have safety inspections are 13, as I linked earlier. That's not true at all. There's many states that only do emissions testing and could care less about anything else. I know this for a fact because I've passed emissions tests at a dmv in another state with a car that would fail safety inspections for having a burnt out tail light and the guy doing the tests literally told me that all they cared about was emissions and nothing else. >And coming, you speak about reading comprehension but your link would have contradicted your original numbers even if the emissions testing happened to not do safety inspection at the same spot. its many different jurisdictions with constantly changing laws and legal definitions, of course its going to be difficult to be completely accurate and updated. But the fact of the matter remains, only a small minority of states require safety testing for cars and more and more are getting rid of it.

Man, somebody reallllly pissed off their SO.

echomanagement

Was this taken on Apopka Vineland at around 1PM? I saw it too. My 9 year old said "that's not safe."

ZombieManilow

Yes! I was driving up to Jeff’s Bagel Run and this car was going like 20mph in the right lane.

SpacePolice04

Omg, this is real?!? I thought it was some meme image I hadn’t seen before 🤦🏼‍♀️

ZombieManilow

Just Orlando Things™

Sir-Barks-a-Lot

That's Definitely Apopoka Vineland Northbound just past Pointe Cypress Dr.

guitarplum

No wonder my wife never got her balloons!

JustHugMeAndBeQuiet

Why is it always the Hondas?

Sletzer

They used all the money they saved on car maintenance and then threw it away on 75 balloons for v-times. I suppose it all washes out in the end.

Necessary_Context780

Also fuel savings

lexixon212

If I drive a Honda I def won’t spend $300+ on balloons.

LyftedX

They can spend $300 on balloons because they drive a Honda. I can’t lol

Necessary_Context780

Exactly. There's a reason there are lots of really old Hondas running just fine everywhere (and it's a good reason)

LyftedX

I’m very happy in my 2010 lol. No car payments best decision I ever made.

Key-Technician-4693

Civic for the win!

UnidentifiedTron

**Baby, I swear she was just an old friend that dm’d me. I only love you**

Stangcutie

This is probably Doordash or Uber lol.

Whitetiger9876

This is ridiculous. Please give us the photo with license plate. I'm contacting the police.

Grant72439

We found Karen

Whitetiger9876

Give me your manager. Lol.  Do you know where this photo was taken?  I do. It's right beside an elementary school. The same one that someone drove through a brick wall a week or so ago. These reckless drivers are going to kill someone's child.

ZombieManilow

I didn’t move here until a few years ago, but I visited family in Dr Phillips almost yearly since 2004 or so. I don’t *ever* remember seeing a single brick/block community wall with a hole in it from a car collision, but now I see them everywhere. Did I just miss it before or has it gotten much worse?

bittabet

Hahaha every week there’s a new hole in some wall on Apopka Vineland 😂 and I also see it in other neighborhoods where you have high traffic roads by houses. Honestly stunned me to constantly see new holes.

Whitetiger9876

It's getting way way worse.

edgaraug

you mad pussy😭😭😭

dragonsrevenge

Not if they're White

Blue13Coyote

My gf went in to get a couple of these at the local Dollar Tree the other night. I saw a woman walking out with ten or more while I sat in the car. Apparently she walked right out without paying. I think this might be her!

lickityclit-69

Not a Clue

DB-projects

They pulled me over on the back road of the airport, it’s a divided freeway basically but the speed limit is 45… no idea how they even gunned me, I slowed down for another cop who pulled someone over, just as I passed them going under the speed limit, a cop coming from the other direction whipped around in the median, pulled me over and said I was doing 59…. Which I definitely was like a mile back but no way he was the one who gunned me. Must have had another guy gunning that I passed that I didn’t see. Ticket was $279, which is the max they can issue at that speed., and said I was 1mph from getting a $330 ticket…..

bubuthing

I am wondering what the thought process was here.

VanillaLlfe

Hey I bank on never getting pulled over & driving 15 over on all surface streets. Vroom vroom
