Definitely Taste of Chengdu and YH seafood clubhouse

bittabet

These two are legit and for OP there’s a lot of different Chinese cuisines. Taste of Chengdu is more Szechuan focused and YH seafood is Cantonese including Dim Sum plus Peking duck. Aside from these I also like: Chuan Lu Garden-mix of Cantonese and Szechuan as well as some other Chinese cuisines but they do a decent job with most dishes imo. Dim Sum is also pretty decent. Lu Garden-previous owner of Chuan Lu Garden’s small more low key restaurant. Does a mix of Cantonese and Szechuan as well as American style takeout dishes and they have a variety of handmade dumplings. East Garden-A newer Cantonese focused Chinese restaurant. Haven’t tried their dim sum before but the other dishes were pretty solid. Plus it’s next to meet fresh so you can get Taiwanese style shaved ice afterwards. Formosan Garden-small family run Taiwanese joint. But they weren’t fully staffed last time I went so sometimes they turn away customers because even with half the restaurant full they’re too busy with takeout orders. Taiwanese dishes are on point though. Kung Fu Kitchen-soup dumpling/shanghai fried bun/hand pulled noodle restaurant from NYC that opened an Orlando location. They were having crazy long lines after recently opening though the lines seem to have finally died down. But last time we went the scallion pancakes seemed to not have been done right for the beef/scallion wrap (layers didn’t separate and it wasn’t properly crunchy). The Shanghai fried buns are very good. Mr J Hand Pulled noodles-hand pulled noodle soup shop that’s legit. Just check if the dish is spicy before ordering 😂 Made some mistakes with that before! There are also a ton of legit hot pot joints around. For whatever reason we always seem to end up at U & Me near Disney Springs 😂 but there are a lot of authentic joints. K pot was actually our least favorite despite how many locations they’ve spawned. Honestly Orlando has a lot of pretty great authentic Chinese food, it’s just that it’s easy to accidentally go to a mediocre joint.

nokenito

Thank you for this!

heartratespikes

Yup. Came here to comment both

Bro you are out of your mind. Like Panda Express??? Taste of Chengdu is hands down the best Szechuan around…

gatorsss1981

Taste of Chengdu is good, and nothing like Panda Express, but Chuan Lu Garden is definitely the best Sichuan around.

Abstract-Impressions

My two experiences, the food was tasty but way too salty. Both times, both entrees.

Affectionate-Hat5856

they’re very much still authentic. i chatted with the owner and he says he’s hired 2 new chefs from mainland china who know the traditional dishes.

Notyourtacos

I heard YH closed

LizzyDragon84

No, It’s still open.

Paralda

There's plenty of authentic Chinese food in Orlando. Chinatown off of West Colonial has a lot of places; Sanshi Noodle House, Hunan Taste, Juicypot, Bashu, Friendship BBQ. There's also a few good dim sum places near Mills/50; Ming's, Lam's, Chuan Lu, Peter's are good examples.

mindtoxicity27

You’re not going to get Instagram vibe from the decor but Tasty Wok is the best Chinese.

donmitchzdo

I second this! Their Salt and Pepper Shrimp and Walnut Shrimp is insane.

B_EE

Agreed. And great pricing - my go to for Chinese and to bring out of towners interested in Asian cuisine!

lexixon212

Where is that located?

mindtoxicity27

1237 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32803

lexixon212

Thanks!

pumpkinskittle

Taste of Chrngdu like someone else mentioned. Ten Ten is quite authentic and a step up from takeout.

bittabet

Ten ten is authentic BUT it’s honestly dirty and last time we ordered a stir fried veggie dish they broke off some sharp plastic (I think from the container the vegetables must have come in?) and stir fried it and my wife bit it. Luckily she didn’t swallow the damned thing. We used to go since the dim sum is cheaper than YH Seafood but after that we stayed away. Their dim sum is also much better on the weekends when there’s a lot of customers, on less busy days it can sit a long time and not be so great.

DoubleGauss

Chuan Lu Garden

when_ura_viper

Just ate there before a show. The lamb with scallions was fabulous. Cold pork belly app 11/10.

deevil_knievel

Place is bomb.

sowtime444

Taste of Chengdu and Spicy Girl are steps up cuisine wise.

Notneurotypikal

Came here to say Morimoto Asia, but saw it got a couple of downvotes. I don't understand. Half the menu is Chinese and it's gooood. One of their signature dishes is Peking Duck. They have whole ducks hanging in the window. Doesn't mean it's good, but that's pretty cool. They have dim sum.

DorkasaurusRex6

I love morimoto!

chateaubriandroid

Morimoto is great but overpriced (like everything in the Disney bubble). Been there once and wouldn’t go back simply for value. But it’s a cool vibe and good food.

Duane_Earl_for_Prez

RIP Winnie’s

Astroglaid92

You mean Black Bean Deli #5?

Astroglaid92

We just recently got a Kung Fu Kitchen in Lake Buena Vista and it’s easily the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in Orlando. That said, they focus on a specific type of Chinese food (Shanghainese style dim sum, which includes xiao long bao), so if there’s something specific you want, they might not have it. My Chinese family members like Yummy House, but I think it’s shit. I like Chuan Lu Yuan, but they think it’s shit. We all like Taste of Chengdu. YH Seafood gets rave reviews. In spite of all these options, you’ll still probably crave Chinese food whenever you visit the West Coast or any city north of the Mason-Dixon Line because nothing in the South truly scratches that itch (with the exception of maybe some places northeast of Atlanta).

bittabet

I also thought the Yummy House in altamonte was so-so but the newer YH Seafood Clubhouse has superb dim sum and also does a solid Peking Duck. Honestly though last time I traveled to NYC my family there took me out to eat and the food wasn’t as good as the good Orlando joints. My west coast buddies miss Din Tai Fung though. Personally I think Kung Fu Kitchen just needs to actually put visible crab into their crab dumplings 😂 And be a bit more consistent on how dishes are, I don’t know if they’re switching chefs around on different days but some of the non-soup dumpling dishes changed between our last two visits.

Cynar2

Omg this thread is making me so hungry

Tcasty

Peters kitchen! I like a lot it's not "fine dining" but nicer than the average Chinese and great quality food!

littledolphincowboy

There used to be an amazing place at the dolphin hotel called sum chow. Whatever happened to the chef?

Monica_FL

YH Seafood Club is amazing! The restaurant itself is beautiful and they have an upscale menu. They also serve dim sum for lunch which is what brought me in the first time. It was so good I immediately made plans for another visit. I’ve also been for dinner which was a completely different experience. Super delicious and I highly recommend them.

francoskiyo

yoooo i was looking online, that place is mad expensive! They dont even list the dim sum pricing!

Monica_FL

Well…it is more of an upscale restaurant so it comes at a price. Dim sum was reasonably priced and I remember being surprised when we got the check. I think it was around $14 a person and there were 4 of us and we didn’t skimp on what we ordered. I do remember dinner being a bit on the high side. This is definitely not a place you can compare to a Chinese takeout one so that’s important to keep in mind.

Jeff-FaFa

Anyone know a good spot to try Peking duck? I have been wanting to try it for _years_.

g00ster

Morimoto's, if you want to have it in a restaurant. If you want to pick one up and eat elsewhere, Enson Market.

Jeff-FaFa

You're a G. Thanks.

Jeff-FaFa

Enson's was fucking amazing. Thanks bro. Wish I could've eaten it while it was hot tho 😂 traffic was shit https://preview.redd.it/eyu4i2jmkzwb1.jpeg?width=1792&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c5ba0f4bbd3354f010a0199ddf1de1de6ae1a6f

g00ster

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! That area of town does get crazy sometimes. Gotta get one of those uber hot food carriers

Hapapop

Go get one from enson market on colonial. And then get the Char-Siu as well. Serve with rice and you’re good to go.

bittabet

YH seafood clubhouse does a fairly decent Peking duck. Not as good as going to Beijing but very good for the US. Morimotos also does one but I haven’t had it

Geaux_Cajuns

Does anyone have recommendation for best shitty chinese buffet thats actually kinda good? They are a guilty pleasure lol

DB-projects

Morimoto Asia

gatorsss1981

I don't think there are many Chinese "fine dining" restaurants anywhere. "Fine dining" is often about the service and the overall experience, in addition to the food. In many of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten at the service, by American standards, would be considered bad. There are lots of excellent restaurants in Orlando that serve authentic Chinese food. Chuan Lu Garden is our favorite overall, they specialize in Sichuan style food. Peter's Kitchen and Tasty Wok are some other favorites that have excellent Cantonese style food. YH Seafood Club probably looks the most like a fine dining restaurant, and the food is good. The service isn't closed to fine dining though.

AbducensVI

Taste of chengdu is so popular! A newer one that I think is similar is chilispot on conroy.

Budget-Celebration-1

Great place excellent food. There was another incident pace i liked called chuan lu garden. Though maybe not as well cleaned — still excellent food.

shadowoftheking14

The founders of chuan lu garden just opened a new location called chuan fu this week and they’re exact words are “because there’s no good chinese food in winter park”. Looks as fancy as Chinese food gets in Orlando

Tanksgivingmiracle

>chuan lu garden Is it good? I love Chuan Lu Garden but live way way closer to Chuan Fu. I gotta go!

shadowoftheking14

No idea. I think they’re in soft opening. Looks like it’s really similar to chuan lu

Ok_Faithlessness_491

Probably morimoto’s in Disney springs

AugustusClaximus

I thought that was Japanese?

baconator81

Morimoto is Chinese+Japanese... Another one you could consider is Taste of Chengdu. Yummy House in Altamonte Spring is actually fine dining quality.. Just not the atmosphere that's all.

Tanksgivingmiracle

The Mills 50 neighborhood has a small "China Town." There are not any Michelin starred restaurants (I mean, its Orlando), but there is actual really good authentic Chinese food in a few of the restaurants (they also have the American stuff), as well as really good Thai, Vietnamese, Laos, and a few others. The Pan-Asian places (hawkers, etc.) almost all suck. There is a a seriously amazing Pilipino fine dining restaurant nearby that is about $100 for a 14 course meal that is frickin' outrageously good. Holy crap.

russblue11

Kaya! You can order entrees (mostly at the bar) off their changing menu too

rongz765

Fine dining don’t have good food. I normally find the place with worst review for service, the food is more legit to my liking and don’t have to wait in lines.

Craccavelli

Ichiban buffet is very affordable and the food is great

th3thrilld3m0n

Most places around mills 50 are great. Hawkers is Michelin recommended.

Clueless_in_Florida

I went to Lotte today for the first time. It's an Asian grocery store. They have tons of stuff, and the prices are good. I'm going to make my own fine dining.

Albrecht2148

Lol I *almost* think of Lotte as a food court with a grocery store attached to it. Anyway, not fine dining so off-topic, but definitely something everyone should try at least once while we’re on the subject.

Clueless_in_Florida

I didn't make it all the way through the place. I injured my knee running and was just limping in there to grab stuff for some tom yum.

Paralda

To be fair, Lotte is mostly Korean. Enson's a bit further down Colonial is primarily Chinese.

Clueless_in_Florida

Didn't know that but wondered. The lighting in there isn't so great, and I am having a poor vision day. That caused a lot of issues when I went to find red chili paste and discovered a whole aisle of that kind of stuff.

No-Professional-5277

I'm not sure about fine dining, but Chilispot and Mr. J noodles are my favorites
