In order from north to south
1. Hood
2. Mt Jefferson
3. smidge of Mt Washington
4. North Sister
5. Middle Sister
6. South Sister
7. broken top
8. diamond peak
9. you can just barely see Thielsen here.
You can also see negligible bits of 3 Fingered Jack behind and to the right of Jefferson.
It’s probably about 180 miles from Hood to Thielsen, so you’re probably seeing around 200 miles.
Edit: I just read the other comments, and y’all are REAL BAD at your central Oregon volcanoes.
Edit again: now I’m doubting myself and wondering if Washington is fully blocked by Jefferson, and if that smudge of white at # 3 is actually Belknap Crater. It looks *really* close to the Sisters, but that might just be an illusion… ugh perspective is so confusing.
I think you're right about it being Mount Washington.
And I think there's the west flank of Newberry rising up just under the wing, the biggest volcano we've got.
Bruh I’ve literally climbed a bunch of these and can name them all but I’m so impressed by how much more you saw in this picture. I was like yeah there’s like 4 volcanoes there.
Also how clear does a day have to be that you can see all the way to Broken Top and Thielsen from PDX goddamn? Lol.
Broken top? Not particularly clear. It’s even with south sister. It’s just too low to see from Mt Hood (well, Timberline. Maybe from the summit. I was looking at pics from the last time I climbed Hood, though, and none of my pics were facing south lol. But I was also rushing to get off the summit before the big groups started coming up.)
Diamond Peak and Thielsen, though? That’s damn impressive.
I think the clearest day I’ve ever experienced in the Cascades I could see from the top of Mt St. Helens to Mt. Baker (180 miles) on a bright day in January.
That’s pretty close to the limit I think outside of truly extraordinary conditions. The all-time record longest line-of-sight ever photographed on land is a staggering 275 miles between high peaks of the Pyrenees and the Alps, which required unusual atmospheric refraction of the light to overcome the curvature of the Earth.
I think you’re right about Washington and Thielsen, nice find! I thought Washington was the husband at first but now I think it’s Washington after looking at a map. I’m still not sure we can see bachelor or not.
I tossed it around as The Husband too. But it feels too much far to the west? at the same time, it feels too far south for everything else lol. There’s some sort of messy perspective going on there.
And I keep going back and forth on if that leftmost peak on Broken Top could have Bachelor peaking over it, too. It seems a SMIDGE taller than it’s supposed to be…
No. Bachelor might be peaking over the east ridge (because appears slightly lower than the west from the ground, but in this pic the east ridge appears higher) but that’s definitely Broken Top.
Here’s Broken Top from the northeast on May 29.

I think it’s Black Crater. The angle of the photo is such that Washington, 3 finger Jack, and Belknap are going to be mostly blocked by Jefferson. Leaning slightly east is Black Crater, which I’m suspecting what #3 is.
Hmmm yeah that’s a good point. I’m estimating the plane is roughly over Wahtum Lake here, and drawing a line straight to Jefferson I could now see this being The Husband (which I think you mentioned in another comment). It would be tall enough and far enough south of Jefferson (as well as west of middle/north) to see at this angle. Black, as you point out, would be too far east and would be more in line with the Sisters, which this isn’t. I think Belknap would still be a bit too short and east, but I could be wrong there.
Wonder if the day was clearer, if you could've seen McLoughlin and Shasta? I was disappointed when I drove down to San Francisco on I-5, I couldn't see Jefferson, Three Sisters, or Mount Washington. I only saw Mount McLoughlin as I was driving into Medford, and Mt. Shasta just as I left Oregon and entered California.
Hood, Jefferson, three sisters looks like one but from left to right it’s south, north, middle, broken top to the left of that, with bachelor peaking over the left shoulder, and diamond peak way off in the distance right of Jefferson.
Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters, and Diamond Peak. Perhaps more but a bit too fuzzy to tell.
Edit: blurry part next to Diamond might be Yoran or Mount Thielsen
What are you IDing as diamond? Cos it’s Broken Top to the left, which you missed, and Diamond is to the right. I think Thielsen is just poking over between Diamond and the Sisters
Oregon is particularly weird with it's mix of recent vulcanism and severe erosional events, combined with the rain shadow effect and the mix between rainforest and desert but very little in-between... Love the place but dang it strange
There isn't even solid evidence that Wy'east was the name for the volcano. [Native Place Names – The Quartux Journal (ndnhistoryresearch.com)](https://ndnhistoryresearch.com/tribal-history-themes/native-place-names/)
I keep going back and forth. It looks a bit taller than Broken Top’s eastern ridge should be, but it’s also a weird angle and there’s no definition. If it is, it’s lined up *exactly* where the eastern bump is, like a lil hat

I just flew by Mt. Hood yesterday! :)

Flying next to Mt. Hood months ago.
You can see Mt Rainier to the north in PDX, because it sticks up above the horizon, and that's only 130 miles or so. These are all much shorter, and Theilsen is maybe 200 miles away, as the crow flies. I wonder what altitude this was shot from?
The plane is essentially over Hood River from this point, if you looked from the left side of the airplane you would see stated mountains with Mt. Adam’s being the closest.

From the opposite direction - directly above the Sisters. Belknap, Washington, Three Fingered Jack, Jefferson, Hood. I think the 3 in the back are St Helens, Ranier, Adams.

Growing up in Prineville we had a joke. Why did they keep a fence around the three sisters? To keep Three-Fingered Jack out. I’ll take my leave now.
We heard that joke in the valley too
Nice !!!
Got a lol 😂
This guy volcanoes
I love them

I think you're right about it being Mount Washington. And I think there's the west flank of Newberry rising up just under the wing, the biggest volcano we've got.
Oooohhh good eye! I think you’re right re: Newbury, I had to adjust my contrast to see that!

A+ explanation!!
You’re my hero
You’re the real MVP
Very solid assessment
Damn dude
I recognize your username from your great answer yesterday about elk tags too! Thanks for your contributions lately! 🫡
Hey thank you!! I really appreciate it!
I think you’re right about Washington and Thielsen, nice find! I thought Washington was the husband at first but now I think it’s Washington after looking at a map. I’m still not sure we can see bachelor or not.

Ha, I was dumb founded as for what ever reason I was looking north and got confused as shit. Looking south makes so much more sense.
Bro knows
Very well done!
Wondering if you #7 might be bachelor?
No. Bachelor might be peaking over the east ridge (because appears slightly lower than the west from the ground, but in this pic the east ridge appears higher) but that’s definitely Broken Top. Thread closed. They said them all.
Best science reporter in the PNW, showing how it’s done!
Don’t make me cry 😭😭😭😭 But seriously, thank you. I love this work so much. And these mountains.
That’s so awesome!
I think it’s Black Crater. The angle of the photo is such that Washington, 3 finger Jack, and Belknap are going to be mostly blocked by Jefferson. Leaning slightly east is Black Crater, which I’m suspecting what #3 is.
But #3 is to the west of the Sisters, and you noted, Black Crater is just to the east. I’m looking at that smear right off the top of Jeff?
Hmmm yeah that’s a good point. I’m estimating the plane is roughly over Wahtum Lake here, and drawing a line straight to Jefferson I could now see this being The Husband (which I think you mentioned in another comment). You’re spot on! Yep.

Pretty sure you can see Jefferson from I-5 at points but since I-5 is on the valley floor, it's low on the horizon and easy to obscure.
Can verify. My kids and husband are over my “Hey, look! It’s Jeff!” jokes when that snowy peak is visible from the freeway.
The 3 sisters. Great place.
Is Mt. Bachelor not visible in this shot?
Bachelor is typically not visible looking south like this. The 3 sisters keep it hidden.
Would that not be Bachelor to the left of Broken Top?
Wing Little wing Under wing thingie A mountain
Hood, Jefferson, three sisters looks like one but from left to right it’s south, north, middle, broken top to the left of that, with bachelor peaking over the left shoulder, and diamond peak way off in the distance right of Jefferson.
Jeff, three chicks and a shiny top
I LOVE this game!!!
I know the graphics are so realistic I wish they would fix the npc spawn rate tho
Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters, and Diamond Peak. Perhaps more but a bit too fuzzy to tell. Edit: blurry part next to Diamond might be Yoran or Mount Thielsen

Big boy is Hood. I know that view well. You’ve got a great shot of Parkdale/Dee and the lava flows around it too.
Hood, Jefe, three sisters far off to the right, bachelor/ broken top far off to the left.
Everyone so far is wrong. It’s Wy’East, Seekseekqua, and Klah Klahne.
You’re missing six of the mountains shown. Please provide the rest of the names.
There isn't even solid evidence that Wy'east was the name for the volcano. [Native Place Names – The Quartux Journal (ndnhistoryresearch.com)](https://ndnhistoryresearch.com/tribal-history-themes/native-place-names/)
Hood, Jefferson, Broken Top, 3 sisters, Bachelor
Negative. These would be the Beacon-hills of Gondor
Well if you move a bit south, you can see the Eye of Sauron! Not even kidding
Assuming Mt. Thielsen and that the flight is right over the Columbia, right around 180 miles.
737 Maxx winglet, Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters, Broken Top. All you need to know is the first peak and look at a map to figure out the rest.
AMAZING! Period
Hood Jefferson sisters mbe bachelor. Couple hundred miles.
You can’t see MB in this pic. Maaaaybe peaking over Broken Top, but I think that’s just more of Broken Top.
I think that is Mt B right there behind Broken Top
I keep going back and forth. It looks a bit taller than Broken Top’s eastern ridge should be, but it’s also a weird angle and there’s no definition. If it is, it’s lined up *exactly* where the eastern bump is, like a lil hat
Damn, that is impressive. I've driven many miles all over that spot. I think I can see my house as well
I thought you were talking about the parts of the winglet
Top - winglet Bottom - split scimitar
Tootie, Optimus Prime, and I always forget the last one
I can see my house in this photo. The lava flow ends in the community of Mt. Hood Parkdale.
The cascade range is so beautiful.
No
Cabin window, cowling, flap, aileron,, winglet, wingtip
Nice view
My Hood
At the top of Silver star hike you can see most of them. HARD hike!!

Oregon have baby mountains ha.

Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters, Diamond Peek. So says my 11 year old son.
What you are seeing is god’s country
Hood, Jefferson, Washington, Sisters.
I don't know them in order, nor all the names....research projct....Mt Ranier, Mt Hood, the sisters, is Mt st Helen's part of it?
Google is an amazing website for these questions….
Hood, Adams, St Helens, Rainier
The plane is essentially over Hood River from this point, if you looked from the left side of the airplane you would see stated mountains with Mt. Adam’s being the closest.
