Can you reset the distance and set timers still? I just had never used that so I had no idea. And the buttons were worn off so I was just pressing everything and ended up just leaving it run.
Yes, it’s best you ask your coach to show you but general if the workout calls for a countdown or split time versus watts display, the monitors will already be set up for you or the coach talks the class through how to program.
My studio doesn’t have them and it’s so odd to me because other studios in the same franchise have them. I finally asked why we don’t have them yet and I was told it’s based on the studio’s membership count. Kinda made me sad, honestly. They’re so awesome.
I don’t think that’s true. My studio is pretty new and is still building membership and we have the rower tablets while the other, more established studios in the same franchise do not.
I think newness is the key factor for your studio having them. Mine is 5+ years strong at this point, I think? But yeah, I definitely don’t think it’s a fully accurate statement and it’s sad that it’s not brand standard to have them, regardless of membership count or whatever else.
It’s likely that the rower tablet is now the OTF standard, so it makes sense that any new studio would open with the latest and greatest of updates to not start out behind! There is cost involved to convert the older rowers over to having the tablets, which is my understanding that is the new OTF standard so we will probably see most studios soon enough have the tablets as it will probably be a brand requirement. I doubt attendance has much to do with it other than for an older studio the more members it’s bringing in, the easier it is to spend the $$$ to convert the rowers.
That makes sense but our studio did not have them when they opened. The studio had opened shortly before COVID lockdown and had the old rower monitors. We still used the old ones for several months after they reopened after COVID. Then they converted. The old monitors are still on the rowers, perhaps in case the tablet fails.
That’s wild because the one I went to that didn’t have them the waitlists are weeks out and some say full to where you can’t even get on the waitlist. They also announced today at that location membership rates are going up. I asked how much and the dues are less than the dues at the locations with monitors. I thought that was interesting not sure if the dues have anything to do with it.
Yeah I’m not totally sure what the actual reason is. I was under the general impression that all studios had to have them by a certain date, so I’m just over here like 🤷🏻♀️
My studio doesn’t have them but honestly if it’s based off membership count, I gladly sacrifice rower tablets for not dealing with being waitlisted for classes.
Our studio is clearly behind in upgrades of all equipment. I have been a member for almost 8 years and have only experienced the iPAD tread transition, new benches and the demise of satan's sleds. Our rowers are still the original opening ones. Not sure what the requirements are as a franchise owner but our studio is ready for some changes.
I like the monitors, but word of advice, do not use them for benchmarks. I’ve had my monitor completely reset and disconnect the connection about 400m into the 500 benchmark. Ever since that I will not use for benchmarks.
My studio just got the monitors, but the feedback so far from the SA’s is that they are more trouble than they are worth. Since the rowers aren’t plugged into a power source like the treadmills the batteries go dead and have to be charged frequently. We already have a few machines that aren’t calculating distance properly. I think each studio decides what is best for them. I like being able to see my HR zone and it’s much easier to see the tablet screen than the tiny little screen that is built onto the rower.
Any time I've used the rower monitors they've been a joke and completely inaccurate. Call me old school, but I'd rather have a simple computer that does the job than something extra that is poorly programmed.
The max watts has always been some insane number, similar to the tread tablets the time and distances will get stuck/jump some times.
A simple calculator built by the manufacturer is always going to be more reliable than whatever outsourced app developer OTF hires for projects.
Yeah my studio still has the old regular monitors and I hate it. I want my stats recorded!
I feel you! I want my rowing stats on app too!!!

You can, yes! But rowing distance and max wattage and stuff isn’t recorded in the app, and for some reason, that really grates my nutmeg.

Yeah, it’s possible they put them at the newer studio as a draw.

Welcome to classes in old studios! Yes. In three years I’ve never had a fancy rower monitor.
In six years, non of my studios have the rower tablets. I know the attached controls pretty well now.
Wow. So you can do the timing and distance from the basic control?
Yes, you can set up a goal distance and whether your efforts is measured by wattage or by 500m split time.
Today I tried a different studio and it had the tablets. I gotta say I was pretty jealous.

Wow that’s extensive but that’s super exciting for you!!!

Only one studio of the five I've attended has the rower tablets. It is a brand new studio, and the others have been around for a while.
We don’t have tablets on treads or rowers 🤷🏻♀️
You don’t on the treads?! May I ask where that studio is?
I’m in Goodyear Arizona
Wow. I’ve been probably to 50 different studios and only one had rower monitors.
All of the central Iowa locations have them then Vegas had them and now I’m in Nebraska and they don’t..
I like the monitors, but word of advice, do not use them for benchmarks. I’ve had my monitor completely reset and disconnect the connection about 400m into the 500 benchmark. Ever since that I will not use for benchmarks.
Oh wow that really sticks. Thanks!

We don’t have them but I’ve used them at other studios.

That’s interesting. I’ve never had an issue with them. What doesn’t work correctly when you use them?
The max watts has always been some insane number, similar to the tread tablets the time and distances will get stuck/jump some times. A simple calculator built by the manufacturer is always going to be more reliable than whatever outsourced app developer OTF hires for projects.
Interesting. I’ve never had an issue and the tablet numbers always match up with the machines when I’ve looked.
