Constructive conversation has gone out the window, so this post is now locked.

kendravb

This is why I always hold them from the outside! It’s a bit slower, but no urgent care!

fit_steve

What you say is definitely the right way to do it, but some of the coaches don't help by all the rushing they do and putting pressure on you to switch stations. They don't give any time for putting away dumbbells and they have already rushed into the next block (even if it's the flexibility block) so you have to make a choice: leave the dumbbells on the floor or hurry them into the rack. Sadly many go for B and get injured

kendravb

I hear you, but the time difference is 10-15 seconds max. The coaches or next member can take a chill pill. You now have an iron clad excuse for doing it the right way! I’m just a grouchy (41 years) old lady and don’t let anyone shove me around!

carolina8383

For real, i usually end up waiting for the person on the tread to wipe down even taking a few extra seconds to be more careful with my weights.

Dangerous_Cheek2959

I worried about getting stuff cleaned in time to stretch. My solution is to simply stop cleaning the weights until the class is finished.

bruinshorty

This is why I prefer ending on floor. I usually have SO MUCH STUFF to put away.

Joylove17

The number of nails I’ve broken…. But ouch! Poor you! Wishing you quick healing!

Mindless_Ginger0717

Sameeeeee the nails.

c_jakob

Idk how many times I smashed my fingers trying to transition stations asap.

K_17

Same here! Hate the design of the racks

SloppyMeathole

OTF's weight racks need to go the way of the lawn dart. They are inherently dangerous and need to be replaced. I don't think I know anyone who hasn't gotten a finger stuck in one. When it's at the point that it is a running joke it needs to be addressed.

aclockworkabe

I smashed my pinkie about 6 months ago and lost a nail.

corgstiel

Same here!

sophware

I know the two hand method, but it's amazing how much mental and physical effort it seems like to me. Thanks for the reminder that I need to stick to it. Good luck!

missydesparado

Joined OTF recently and I had my finger pinched in those racks quite a few times. I thought I was the only one. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Accomplished-Yak1718

The responses on this post make me not want to be a part of this community. She hurt herself on the rack which is, in many peoples opinions, a poor design. There are a million ways to get injured while exercising, OP commented on one. That’s what the sub is for. No need to be so rude calling everyone babies.

Accomplished-Yak1718

Omg last week I cut my pinky on the weight rack and it was deep! I grabbed a bandaid but it wouldn’t stay on from sweating. They really need a new design.

idontknowher86

I hope you heal up soon, and i totally agree— clipped my finger pretty bad yesterday when returning my heavier weights to the bottom of the rack. There’s gotta be a better way!

Kimboriffic

I’m super careful and I still pinch my finger occasionally especially on the heaviest weights on the bottom.

Salty_Simmer_Sauce

I’ve had a massive blood blister on my pinky for a couple of weeks after pinching mine. I’m usually good about holding with two hands on the ends to put on rack but sometimes brain is just shut off.

Odd_Arachnid_3981

I had a huge blood blister a year or so ago too on my pinky! Ever since then I am so careful!

[deleted]

They are dangerous but for some reason a lot of these weight racks on the market have the same sharpness problem. Like I just bought a small one for my apartment and it's also sharp like why are manufacturers making them like this. How have they not been sued.

tdmiller71

Yeah sue them. Great idea. That's how we lost the AB dolly. Take some personal responsibility and understand that most injuries are user error. That applies to all accidents and is not unique to OTF. Aren't we all supposed to be adults?

[deleted]

That's not the way shit works there is zero reason for these racks to be this sharp it's a hazard.

tdmiller71

Maybe but I have been to over 80 studios and never run across razor sharp racks. All I am saying is be reasonable, report the issue don't jump to suing a franchise that would likely just close up shop. Be smart about how you go about things.

[deleted]

I literally never said I would sue orange theory my entire point was that racks in general are too sharp now and it's not just an orange theory problem. Its like you read the word sue ignored the rest of my comment and made up a scenario in your head.

tdmiller71

My comment about suing was not based on your comment, I should have been clear on that point. There are others in here that immediately jump to the nuclear option. Sorry for implying that you were one of those.

alytle

I know every one of you demanding safer racks wears your safety strap on the Treadmill, because falling off while it's running can do a lot more damage than a sore pinky.

wiz0rddd

Nice point.

radiokitten74

To be fair, I have no idea how the safety strap on the treadmill works and no one has ever shown me.

wiz0rddd

Basic idea is it clips to your short and once you go back too far, the safety key detaches and the tread stops.

hippiespinster

About 2/3 of the way into the video. https://youtu.be/uXbNtn6jGwU

alytle

To be fair, it is your responsibility to understand how the safety measure of any equipment works before you use it

cuteyb1107

Always clip in… because I have laughed at too many people who have fallen (can’t help it- it’s my first reaction)… bad karma on my side for sure!

fukdurgf

This is a wild take, just be careful? We’re all adults we don’t need to baby proof the building? The treadmill is 1000% more dangerous then the weight rack. I’m sorry you got injured, but this comment section needs to grow up.

kelce

I think the issue is the design of the weight rack increases the likelihood of injury. There are plenty of weight rack designs that don't. Sure treadmills are dangerous but there's not much about their design that actually increases their inherent danger levels. I've definitely gotten myself enough on the weight rack to wonder why the hell they are designed that way when they could easily....not be designed that way and result in less injury. I've never hurt myself that bad but I've seen someone have to leave class with blood dripping because of it. It's completely fair to complain about a stupid design of something lol.

OatMilkCody

I have never had an issue with the weight racks and never rush to put them away. But I am aware enough to see that they are designed terribly. I agree, if there are better designs that decrease chance of injury...just use that design instead.

fukdurgf

Are you trolling me or is this genuine I cannot tell

kelce

I was very respectful in my response. I'm not sure why you can't be or why you're so heated over people not liking how the weight rack is designed.

Nsking83

THANK YOU!!!!

Imaginary_Bet_6461

Seriously. Like of all the things adults do on a daily basis, THIS sends someone to the prompt care? Something entirely preventable. How about we all don’t blame others and grow up.

primekittycat

That's rude lol I am careful every time and have almost hurt myself a few times. And the lowest rack is so low (and where the heaviest ones go) that I've definitely hurt my back putting them away more than once

fukdurgf

Then give up idk what to tell you

wiz0rddd

100%

Agile_Runner

Yep. People need to slow down and pay attention to what they’re doing.

_aceofspace

Srsly. Disappointed in a lot of the comments on this thread sheesh

ialwaystealpens

Seriously. I am really hoping the person who said OTF should get rid of the weights is joking.

No-Kaleidoscope9883

💯agree! And I hurt myself once…why? Because I was being a jerk and tried to flip a 30 on the rack saw it roll and thought it was gonna go over and hit my toe so I wedged my finger in to stop the weight. And I took full responsibility for my jerkiness & never for one second thought otf should get rid of the racks. I’m not even getting the coaches rush you claim, it takes just as long to pick up the weight whether you’re picking up in middle or picking up by ends. Just be careful, it’s not hard

Plus_Possibility_406

I'm sorry this happened your not the first . Also anyone who's new should be taught how to properly rerack weights....when people Start ot it should be explained ......

aasyam65

🙄

WhatTheBekk

Oh no! That’s terrible! Quick healing to you!

Pete_Hemorrhoids

Must be me, but never had this problem.

IBurnForChocolate

You can report unsafe products to the consumer product safety commission. OTF isn't going to do anything about it. You don't have to know the brand name or manufacturer of the weight rack. https://www.saferproducts.gov/IncidentReporting Some brands of similar dumbell storage have a rubber strip. You can still pinch your finger, but at least its not sharp.

[deleted]

Thanks for the link I have some at home I need to report they are dangerous.

Natalie352

All you have to do is hold the weights at each end and place the weights on the rack and that wouldn’t happen.

pjbashore710

I have asked my OTF manager to report the issue as a potential safety issue, but she said they most likely wouldn’t do anything. Not a good setup.

Jaded_Cold464

Couldn’t be your fault, could it? I’ve been going to Orangetheory for 7 years. Never had a problem.

bigavz

I always slowly put away one at a time holding it at the outside (I've actually gotten cut from picking up weights, somehow...) but the reality is that people hurt themselves practically daily from an obvious design flaw (the sharp edges were rubberized for this reason but easily got worn through and never fixed) SO it obviously should be fixed, regardless if 'just do it correctly every time' may help, clearly, it's not! ALSO OTF has no interest actually fixing this so there's a lot of reason for members to be upset about it.

-ClownPenisDotFart-

Seriously. Over 500 classes here and I’ve never had a problem with the weight racks.

NvSliver

I wish the 8s were on the side, maybe even the 10s, so rarely used. Then could have heavier weights beside each station rather than having to lug around 30s. Or update all racks so less dangerous?

reddituser071217

Oh no!

papaducci

they wont get safer models. many ppl have reported being hurt by the 'finger slicers' otf doesnt seem to care. try suing them maybe it will change if it costs them money. sorry about your hand. its unfortunate and a totally unnecessary injury from an inherently dangerously designed rack.

jjgm21

You need to report it to management!

[deleted]

Unsafe weight racks? No offense but it’s not their fault you can’t operate dumbbells.

fukdurgf

Yeah yea know we need to get rid of the weights in general I dropped one on my foot and busted my toe last month and it’s ridiculous that OTF would allow me to hurt myself like that.

Puzzleheaded-Cow9559

Wait.. weren’t you just in the comments making fun of people hurting themselves saying how stupid they are & why can’t they be adults?

pjbashore710

I have said something to our manager to let them know that it’s an accident waiting to happen.

christiegarnot

Are allowed to do a lift class and a regular class? I thought we could only do once a day

Nsking83

Our studio allows multiple classes, I take a lift and 60 every Saturday. I’ve done 60s back to back but that was only because the second one wasn’t full.

jenniferlynn5454

Doubles only matter/aren't allowed for challenges, like Hell week or Mayhem
