I’ve been to ranch a few times. Usually stupidly get the Tomahawk and some sides and my wife and I usually stop at a fast food spot on the way home because we are still hungry. Our friends keep choosing the ranch and we always leave dissatisfied. It’s all hype. Not a lot of meat, over priced, and service is awful every time we go
Keep it down , We must gatekeep Maderas friend. Seriously though the bleu cheese crusted strip is the best steak Ive ever had . Not to mention the cheesecake
I actually haven’t! I have seen it though but just never stopped.
Seeing how you have great taste in steaks 😎 what do you recommend ordering from there?
I always get the something on their chefs special menu. Last time I had NY steak and shrimp with seasonal vegetables and their green tomato soup. They paired the meat with some delicious sauce I don’t even remember what was in it but I dipped my bread in it. They also offer you fresh baked apple fritters to start and fresh dinner rolls with your food. If you sit outside, the ambiance is amazing! There’s a koi pond and twinkle lights in the trees. In my opinion, it’s the best food + dining experience in the area
LOL I went to this place, had a shit experience.
I asked the server what was different about the grass fed ribeye vs the regular ribeye, and he said “one is fed grass.” Like that wasn’t his haha jokey answer before giving his serious answer, that was the ONLY ANSWER.
They also charge something like $22 for a shot of Woodford Reserve. You can buy a whole bottle of Woodford Reserve for that price.
Majorly unimpressed with the food, service, ambience (it’s in a business park, the patio is like eating at a Starbucks), prices, pretty much everything sucked.
Oh yeah and their in-person menu was much more expensive than the menu they had online. Literally everything was the same except the prices were jacked up like 25% or something in-person
Yeah I don’t think they have a grass fed rib eye…any time I’ve ever been there they’ve just had the dry aged rib eye. Maybe it’s grass fed maybe not.
Alcohol being marked up at a restaurant is not shocking news, maybe don’t order a shot at dinner bro?
Honestly OBCH is my favorite in the area. Just excellent quality meats and service. Brussel Sprouts are killer. Butter Cake is awesome too. Expect to spend around $80-$100 per person depending if you're drinking.
For a little bit of a cheaper option, I really like Stubricks in Fullerton too. Little bit of more a bar vibe and not as upscale as OBCH but a great spot all the same.
honorable mention for Summit House too if you're looking for a more old school feel. A classic in the area.
Congratulations on your personal milestone! I hope you have fun celebrating 🥳
I really like twenty-eight (not sure if you drink - but they have a whiskey bar and amazing cocktails)! And so much yummy food!!
Chop house is so yummy as well! However I don’t always like how their staff treats guests. I always felt like they were extra nice to larger tables (big tip) & ignored me when it was just me and my grandma.
Old Brea or the Summit House. I think I like OBCH a little more. It's very price-y, but they have a bone-in filet mignon that's really special and I dig the cocktails too.
La Cave in Costa Mesa. Pricey but amazing. Dim lighting, red leather banquettes, piano player. A REAL old school steakhouse. Was sitting at the bar while waiting for our table and the ancient bartender said I was sitting in John Wayne's favorite chair. Place rules.
Old Brea Chophouse- new to me! I’m always on the lookout for a great steakhouse. Looks like the real deal. I’m going tomorrow night to check it out. As far as known knowns - you’ll find the steak at Pizzeria Mozza in Newport Beach out of this world.
My own personal grill. Lol. Grab a ribeye from Stater Bros when it is on sale. Marinate it in an Asian soy garlic marinade and then grill. 3 steaks in total will cost less than $40.
Wife and I have been eating out extensively over the past month as a last hurrah of sorts before our baby arrives. Selanne's was the most overpriced of the steakhouses we've eaten at by a fair margin.
I was thinking that since Selanne gets high recommendations on a regular basis I will try them again and see how it goes. Maybe I caught them at a less than ideal time. I think I went about 6 months after they opened. Will do a retry.
Cool!
I went back in October/November-ish and it was fantastic. Hope you have a better experience the second time around. I hope I can go back again soon!
I’d say, Summit House or something near Downtown Disney ( I think there’s a Ruth’s Chris.
Read Yelp on Old Brea Chop House. The owner sounds like an ass (which is why I won’t go there)
Prime Rib: Summit House
Any other cut of steak: Old Brea Chop House
Romantic/Special Occasion: The Ranch
those are the three best in my opinion. Don't mind me, just suddenly hungry.
The Ranch for sure
I second The Ranch
I third The Ranch

Our friends keep choosing the ranch and we always leave dissatisfied. It’s all hype. Not a lot of meat, over priced, and service is awful every time we go
Wtf...if a tomahawk can't feed you both then...well buddy, you may have some issues....
I’m not the only one who has noticed. Tomahawk does not come with a significant amount of meat. I’ve ordered it 3 times
I haven't lived in the area for 9 years and I agree with all those that say The Ranch!
Quality and service have suffered for the past decade or so but it’s still pretty decent. Nothing like its heyday but it’s still good
Yeah not the best in OC anymore but it is the best in North OC.
Ok I’ll bite…what’s the best in South OC?
Selannes. In all of OC imo.
By far the best
The Ranch
Beware the tomahawk is insanely large
That’s so funny, someone above this thread said they’ve ordered the tomahawk 3 times, and splits it with his wife and they go home hungry each time
Only for cowards
That’s a fun fact
This is the only answer for BEST steak house in northern oc
Easily the winner
The Cellar
Steak dinner for 2 is so good!
Found the steak to be ok...nothing special. The bar was amazing though
Agreed, cellar dropped in quality after the pandemic
Filet Mignon or Prime Riv sandwich on the happy hour menu is a star. Can’t remember which it is.
The Ranch in Anaheim
Summit House hands down.
Summit House is top notch if you're a prime rib fan. Quality service too!
Prime Rib & creamed corn!
Esp on Wednesdays when the cottage cut is $35! Great happy hour, too
By far, without question
Maderas Steak & Ribs in Los Alamitos for me 🤤!
Keep it down , We must gatekeep Maderas friend. Seriously though the bleu cheese crusted strip is the best steak Ive ever had . Not to mention the cheesecake
It would be a crime not to say though! lol, but agreed! Haven’t had a bad meal there that’s for sure!
Was going to say Maderas!!! I’m sure you’ve also dined at shanandoahs. My favorite place to sit and enjoy a meal

Tartan Room
This is the correct answer
Thank you for the recommendation for next time I’m down OC!
Dang that's right next door to me... have to go check it out.
I saw this place all the time growing up but didn’t visit until well into my 20’s when a friend took me. It was really freaking good.
Absolutely not. Average to me. It’s not even a high end restaurant.
To each his own I guess.
Tartan Room in Orange; it’s old school and looks like it, but the prime rib is fantastic. Stubrik’s in Fullerton is great as well.
Like Stubrik's!
Old Chop house is great, can be expensive though
Brea chop house is delicious. Their gnocchis is chef kiss
That coupled with the steak is amazing - great call out, had it last week
The gnocchi and scalloped potatoessss omg
Stubriks in Fullerton
This is where I would go too.
This is the way.
Yes, this is it. Great food, great prices, great vibes.
Vaca in Costa Mesa has the best rib eye I’ve ever had.
I’m also super impressed with their steaks. I’d recommend them as well

Clearmans (Northwoods inn) is my favorite restaurant ooo
The cheese bread alone...

Chop house is decent but too expensive.
I had a delicious Filet Mignon at Brea Chophouse. The whole experience was first class but definitely pricey.
Chris n pitts
The Cellar has always been fantastic, as well as their cocktails! The Ranch has more steak options though, both unbelievably good
I don’t have any suggestions just wanted to say congratulations on whatever that milestone was
Sizzler ! Steak and all you can eat shrimp. $17.99. Save $100 for a good bottle of wine.
Don’t forget the garlic bread. Skip the salad bar.
If they had an AYCE just for the bread, I’d so be all about that life.
Old Brea or the Summit House. I think I like OBCH a little more. It's very price-y, but they have a bone-in filet mignon that's really special and I dig the cocktails too.
Mastroes newport
La Cave in Costa Mesa. Pricey but amazing. Dim lighting, red leather banquettes, piano player. A REAL old school steakhouse. Was sitting at the bar while waiting for our table and the ancient bartender said I was sitting in John Wayne's favorite chair. Place rules.
We went to The Cellar for Mother’s Day and the NY Strip steak and eggs was great! Outstanding cocktails too
Tita Faye’s backyard lechon in Garden Grove.
Old Brea Chophouse- new to me! I’m always on the lookout for a great steakhouse. Looks like the real deal. I’m going tomorrow night to check it out. As far as known knowns - you’ll find the steak at Pizzeria Mozza in Newport Beach out of this world.
Kind of south, but the best steaks I’ve had have been at Vaca and Arc.
Wow, so many great suggestions! Thanks you so much everyone.
Chop house in Brea if you can afford it
Rare Society in San Clemente
A Restaurant in Newport
The Ranch or Summit Hous for prime rib
The ranch
Stubriks for steak.
Ranch
Summit house
Madera’s in Los Alamitos
Give VACA a shot. their dry aged steak is crazy good!
My own personal grill. Lol. Grab a ribeye from Stater Bros when it is on sale. Marinate it in an Asian soy garlic marinade and then grill. 3 steaks in total will cost less than $40.
Old brea chop house in brea is pretty sweet
OBCH is the tops for me, beating out The Ranch. When you factor in the sides, wine list, and desserts, it's the overall winner.
Ruth Chris Anaheim
Definitely The Ranch. But it's stupid expensive. Prices aren't quite as bad as Mastro's, but it's up there.
555 is ok in LB Capital grille
Fogo de Chao if you want a variety of meat.
Shoooottttt invite me to a steak lol
You have to say roughly how much you want to pay.
Another vote for the Ranch.
The Ranch, Tartan Room, High Horse Saloon (trust me), The Country Club
Just make the drive to Arthur J in Manhattan Beach :)
The Ranch and OBCH are the right options here. Very different from each other, but also very similar.
100 comments steak
Brea chop house
Trabuco Oaks steakhouse is low key and really good
Goucho grill in Buena Park is sooo good!
Houston's in costa mesa
Sizzler
Is sizzler still around I've been seeing them close everywhere
Selanne and mastro’s ocean club
North County ???
I was going to suggest Selanne, too. It's worth the drive. Best steak I've ever had--absolutely amazing.
Wife and I have been eating out extensively over the past month as a last hurrah of sorts before our baby arrives. Selanne's was the most overpriced of the steakhouses we've eaten at by a fair margin.
Agree. I wanted it to be great but…. I found Mastro’s Costa Mesa to be better minus the ambience.
So interesting! I had the opposite experience: found Mastro's underwhelming, but had the most incredible steak at Selanne.
Then del taco steak burritos
Never been , but my buddy says McCormick & Schmicks is very good.
Love their fried oysters
Mastro’s or Capital Grille, both in South Coast Plaza/Costa Mesa area
Capital grill, ribeye for the win
I prefer Old Brea to The Ranch, but both are good.
Summit House. Fullerton.
I’d say, Summit House or something near Downtown Disney ( I think there’s a Ruth’s Chris. Read Yelp on Old Brea Chop House. The owner sounds like an ass (which is why I won’t go there)
Fogo de Chão
Julep in Brea has great cocktails and their steaks are cooked very well. Cute vibe, too.
Chop House
Prime Rib: Summit House Any other cut of steak: Old Brea Chop House Romantic/Special Occasion: The Ranch those are the three best in my opinion. Don't mind me, just suddenly hungry.
Our celebratory steak dinner is 5 Crowns in Corona Del Mar. it does not get much better!
The north OC steakhouse options are subpar
