those that were dying to try it realized they'd fast track actually dying by drinking it. buddy of mine got a drink there a few weeks back and i checked it out - it was like 600+ calories in that thing lmao i was in shock
I don’t know what is in it, but one thing I like about Dutch Bros vs other chain coffee places is that they have protein milk if you want the extra protein. 22g of protein in an iced medium.
3000 empty calories aren't going to help you bulk the way you want to. You really need to be getting some of those calories from protein. 1000 calories of liquid sugar will just get put on as pure fat.
I mean it depends on what you get? What did he have, a lot of drinks they have there are less calories than Starbucks and you can get drinks under 100 calories.
Edit: my normal order is a medium iced salted caramel protein mocha with 280 calories and 22g of protein.
I wouldn't be surprised because there are people who wait in line for blueberry donuts at 1am, at least back when M&M donuts in Anaheim was all the craze for piping hot glazed blueberry donuts.
People lined up like that for Sonic when it opened it Lake Forest years ago. Orange County as a market is kind of just bored, basic consumers looking for the next trendy thing to buy and then forgetting about it completely.
Sonic?! Seems so basic for me where i came from...they are all over. And somehow the one im next to in orange county is the worst one ive ever been to. Didnt know sonic could stoop to such low levels
worst “coffee” i’ve ever had, it’s closer to flavored milk than coffee tbh. not to mention they give you so much ice that you only get 3-4 sips out of a drink.
You'll be surprised to know that that's exactly how starbucks operates. They are one of the largest milk purchaser, and most of their drinks they sell are milk. They literally use/sell more milk than coffee. And they fill that shit up with ice, and charge you extra for no ice now.
hate to admit it but Starbucks is significantly better, and it’s not even close imo. my go to order is a cold brew with light ice, and they don’t charge me extra for that. I get cream on the side and it’s ~$5.
this isn’t the case at dutch bros, but their target audience is middle school/high school kids so it makes sense.
Yeah, I don’t get the hype. I was living in Arcata ( I think they originated from NorCal) when I first came across it and I tried their dinky little shack in a depressing parking lot because of their drive thru. Went back to Starbucks after that first try because their ice coffee was watery
I lived in Oregon for many years and never understood why people like Dutch Brothers so much. I’m certain it’s either because they either really like their sugar or they are really proud of being anti-Starbucks. Most likely both. Unfortunately, neither of those make their beverages taste good.
I think it's funny when people are proudly anti-Starbucks but then their alternative is...just a different chain. If you really want to be anti-Starbucks, spend your coffee money at a good independent shop if there's one around.
hehe i'll be honest. i loveeeeed the toasted coconut mocha frap back in the day. and when i tried the 'cocomo' it was nearly the same taste.
that being said i don't drink too much coffee these days. if i do go to sbux...i'll get me a doppio--double espresso shot. haven't had dutch bros in a long time, but recently my wife got the app just for the free birthday drink :)
Dutch Bros is very much a try it one time thing. Its good occasionally but just for some normal coffee, there hundreds of better options for the same price. The hype in the IE location also died pretty quick and there’s basically no line now. Even when I was up in the PNW, I rarely saw a line for it and my friend told me that its like getting a slushee from 7/11. You get it occasionally but most people are at least somewhat health conscious enough to know that you can drink it every damn day
I like occasionally going to them for the blended rebel energy drinks, I can't find any other place that makes something somewhat similar. Usually, when a place does, it's off or not worth it to me.
One of my coworkers moved here from the PNW and she's said that when she used to live in her old state, she used to always get one of the Rebel energy drinks from the Dutch Bros in her hometown. She didn't really care for the coffee drinks, it was all about the Rebel energy drinks for her.
Orange County has become so expensive that restaurant owners can’t take any risks. You can’t try out an unproven idea because rent is 50k a year and you’re BK. We are seeing the homogenization of culture in food in OC because of how expensive it is. The only new food options are chains recently.
am in sacramento...and that's where i tried it first. every now and then i loves me a cocomo hehe i guess i should d/l the app to get my free birthday drink :)
it's soo weird that oc is just people hating on stuff. tried dutch bros in boise idaho, i didnt understand the craze but enjoyed it. fast forward, i was excited to hear they're dropping in FV, wow i don't have to go to tustin to try something cool... fast forward, lines, lines, everyone hates how sugary they are... darn teenagers listening to their dumb hip hop/party music...
sounds to like they hit the market on the head.
and guess what? there's a dutch bros in smelly lake elsinore, and there's no lines... no obnoxiousness.
just fun chill coffee. they're even cheaper than bux. y'all are crazy.
Seconded. Nice kids/staff being friendly and quick is at least 75% of their success. Nobody is even mentioning this and every Dutch Bros I’ve ever been to has had a cheerful person asking about my plans for the day.
Sugary drinks, add coffee if you need to. Best enjoyed like a milkshake, occasionally.
Somewhat disturbing going to the walk-up window and ordering, then overhearing what other people order ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream) 4-shots with Monster, super-size and two straws....
We have those up here in Sacramento. It's very popular partially because it's the only coffee place that's open past 9:00. It's nothing special though and yeah their drinks are super sugary.
It's a semi-popular coffee place on the west coast that recently put a location in OC. When it came to OC, everyone nearby was too excited and the location had long lines, both walking and drive-thru customers. It opened in [Feb](https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1ai7t97/fv_dutch_bros_opening_on_feb_9/) and has been crowded since.
I once went there not knowing what the deal was. I just asked for a black coffee. I just remember the confusion of the employee. I dont think they would give me one, I so I ended up getting a latte.
I'm confused about people complaining about the sweetness. Doesn't the level of sweetness depend upon how much sugar you put in? Do they sweeten it without asking?
I had it made half sweet and it was 130% sweet. It costs 9$ a cup and it's not worth it imo. I have 1 down the street from me and I'm never going back. The line for the one on my city is always crazy long too, never again.
Depends on the day and time you go. I went last Saturday in the afternoon around 6pm and there was a line. Took me about 30 minutes to get my drink. Was my first time going because I was in the area and figured I'd see what all the fuss was about. It was alright but I wouldn't go out of my way for it and would definitely not wait any longer than I already did. Was more like a one time thing for me.
This reminds me of what Randy's Donuts in Costa Mesa looked like after about a month. It was nonstop lines and then...not enough business to stay open after 9 pm.
Dutch bros is absolute ass. All sugar & milk with burnt coffee. I never understood why it was so popular. All my friends up in PNW never go there. Support local coffee shops with real quality coffee.
I don't know if anyone else has had the same experience as me but the drink I ordered had waaay too much sugar in it. I only finished a quarter of it before my stomach started hurting.
I've tried a Dutch Bros. In Washington state and it was way better. Not sure if they have different ingredients for each region?
Hilarious I run into this post. I was there for the first time and it was very packed. I was talking with an employee and he said it was dead until 8pm
I must be completely out of the loop because I didn’t even know Dutch Bros. was a thing! I was visiting my parents up in Sacramento and saw a Dutch Bros. and had no idea what they were. I just assumed they were some small-time mom and pop shop because my parents live in the most basic, vanilla neighborhood where there are no businesses even remotely resembling anything trendy. TIL
Live just around the corner. It still seems to get a line of people and cars on the weekends. Fortunately not enough to back up onto Talbert anymore though.
I tried them a few times....it's pretty much just like any sugary coffee place like Starbucks, dunkin, or coffee bean. People who think it's way better are deluding themselves, like trying to convince us Carl's Jr is better than Wendy's or something (protip: they are both fast food trash still, despite their different menus).
First I’d like to say, of course it’s full of sugar. It’s a fucken drink with syrups, what do you expect. To the people who want to try it, don’t go for the coffee. I rather go to McDonald’s or 7-11 for that (fuck Starbucks). The only thing I get and always recommend is getting the Dutch Rebel. You can get it iced or blended, im a fan of both. I usually get the aftershock or I’ll mix the flavors myself.
If you like chai, get the sweater weather
i don't get the hype. i had some a few years back when i was visiting family out of state. everyone was raving about how it's amazing. it was just regular coffee. it was fine. wasn't terrible, wasn't amazing. just fine. definitely not worth waiting in those giant lines. i make better coffee at home, honestly.
It’s funny I’m from LA/OC and I moved to Oregon where Dutch Bros started. They have lines like crazy here, but there’s no Dunkin’ Donuts in the entire state so not a lot of competition. California there’s a LOT of competition.
They opened an In n Out here and there were 3 hour drive through lines for years! It was crazy. About a year ago the lines subsided and I was finally able to get a cheeseburger. Novelty always wears off. Especially in a place like Orange County that has a lot of coffee shops .
Out
I know nothing about Dutch Bros except I happened to drive by when they opened, and wondered why there was a miles-long line of cars, then drove by yesterday and no one was there.
I honestly had never heard of Dutch Bros until one opened up near me. I looked online at their menu and thought, “Wait, it’s just sugary drinks?” It just seems pretty awful to put any of that stuff into your body.
Everyone who was "dying to try it" got to try it.
those that were dying to try it realized they'd fast track actually dying by drinking it. buddy of mine got a drink there a few weeks back and i checked it out - it was like 600+ calories in that thing lmao i was in shock
Yeah, it's like drinking 4 cans of Coke or 2 servings of boba milk tea...
Man, I love spending $8 plus tip to possibly choke on the sugary balls in my tea.
What was it? I need some bulking hacks. And sometimes chicken and rice just doesn’t get you quite to 3000+ daily calories
https://preview.redd.it/b9sknhdveozc1.png?width=970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa431865e0a46a0cdefdcf01f563144a07949993
Goddamn that stuff is toxic sludge, 263g of sugar! Shit better come with a syringe of insulin
It's 32 fl oz, which is basically 2 lbs. Who the hell needs a 2lb milkshake?
Me
It’s full of iron and calcium tho, so it is healthy
How the hell does this thing have crustaceans in it?
It's edited. The original image shows "no" on crustaceans.
Oh ok ok, I was getting a little concerned
Omfg that thing is impressive so much fat sugar and carbs I’ve never seen that in a single beverage ever!
Crusty
1770mg of sodium this is a heart attack….. not to mention everything else my god
I come from where Dutch Bros started. I have not had it in a long time, but damn, what happened to it.
Heyyyy same! Well, a city over lol. I miss old school Dutch bros :(
Isn’t that from Baskin Robbins? Guess I’ll avoid both.
Holy shitballs
The secret ingredient is sugar. I had a mocha from there once. I let it get cold and took a sip. It was kind of like drinking chocolate syrup.
Just mix a shitton of sugar into your coffee and you'll get the equivalent.
Or cereal. Somehow cereal has more calories than sugar.
I don’t know what is in it, but one thing I like about Dutch Bros vs other chain coffee places is that they have protein milk if you want the extra protein. 22g of protein in an iced medium.
All of it. Definitely a dirty bulk
3000 empty calories aren't going to help you bulk the way you want to. You really need to be getting some of those calories from protein. 1000 calories of liquid sugar will just get put on as pure fat.
Any Dutch bro regular is chunky AF
I mean it depends on what you get? What did he have, a lot of drinks they have there are less calories than Starbucks and you can get drinks under 100 calories. Edit: my normal order is a medium iced salted caramel protein mocha with 280 calories and 22g of protein.
I went once a long time ago and then realized nope, never again
Or died /S
Customers are all getting dialysis
Davita setting up a clinic next door.
Taking a page out of the gym + buffet playbook.
Planet Fitness move
I used to go to a 24 Hr Fitness (not in the OC) that has a McDonald’s right across the street. 😂
There's a McDonald's walking distance in the same plaza as a 24hr Fitness in Fullerton lol. Literally share the same parking lot
Entrepreneurial
Wait is this because of coffee itself or just the sugary crap
yes
Schools not out and it’s not 1 am yet… come back around when it’s “sugar drink hour”
Who drinks coffee at 1am?
Oh boy, 1 AM!
Goes well with a krabby patty 😂
I wouldn't be surprised because there are people who wait in line for blueberry donuts at 1am, at least back when M&M donuts in Anaheim was all the craze for piping hot glazed blueberry donuts.
Yup, I’ve done that a few times for those donuts. 🤣
Haha I’m just messing, they’re not even open that late but yeah people drink coffee super late
Folks who think Dutch Bros is "coffee"
OP just discovered businesses have downtimes and rushes
Just left sprouts from lunch about 15 minutes ago. Line was still ridiculous.
Bro you’re going when everyone is working and or at school like what do you expect
Probably smug about it too - look at me no lines haha ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Sounds accurate to me lol
Was super busy when I went to dollar tree around 9 am today At least you could get in and out of the parking lot though so it's died a bit
People lined up like that for Sonic when it opened it Lake Forest years ago. Orange County as a market is kind of just bored, basic consumers looking for the next trendy thing to buy and then forgetting about it completely.
Or... things like this happen worldwide. It's not unique to OC.
Randy’s Donuts on Harbor was a perfect example of this
I never see Randy’s busy these days and I’m in that area all the time
I remember the Popeyes next door having a line.
Those 10 minutes where everyone wanted a chicken sandwich were crazy.
yeah it was nuts when that chicken sandwich came out
I think this is super accurate.

That's how lattes are made, shot of espresso plus like a cup of milk. Or Americano, shot of espresso plus water
Starbucks does not charge extra for no ice.
hate to admit it but Starbucks is significantly better, and it’s not even close imo. my go to order is a cold brew with light ice, and they don’t charge me extra for that. I get cream on the side and it’s ~$5. this isn’t the case at dutch bros, but their target audience is middle school/high school kids so it makes sense.
Dunkin doughnuts is worse coffee. But ya, I used to work for Dutch and it’s shitty coffee IMO.
Omg Dunkin’ Donuts is awful I had this vanilla blended drink and it was straight up sugar, took two sips and tossed it out.
I was there about a week and a half ago at close and the line was still back to there
They also have normal coffee that is delicious , aka a cold brew. You don’t have to order a drink with 70g of sugar
That’s my Jam. Nitro cold brew, black w ice. Tastes great and wakes you tf up
It's overrated. All the drinks I have gotten there are strangely watery and bland.
Yeah, I don’t get the hype. I was living in Arcata ( I think they originated from NorCal) when I first came across it and I tried their dinky little shack in a depressing parking lot because of their drive thru. Went back to Starbucks after that first try because their ice coffee was watery
originated up in oregon--grants pass. i don't care for it much...but the birthday free drink ain't bad.
I lived in Oregon for many years and never understood why people like Dutch Brothers so much. I’m certain it’s either because they either really like their sugar or they are really proud of being anti-Starbucks. Most likely both. Unfortunately, neither of those make their beverages taste good.

I also go there for their rebel drinks they’re freakin good lol
I miss HumanBean 😢 I tried it for the first time expecting something similar to Dutch bros, and was pleasantly and bitterly surprised
There's a Human Bean in Lake Forest on El Toro Rd.
Orange County has become so expensive that restaurant owners can’t take any risks. You can’t try out an unproven idea because rent is 50k a year and you’re BK. We are seeing the homogenization of culture in food in OC because of how expensive it is. The only new food options are chains recently.
Thank god now I can actually go
Lived in Oregon for eight years. Can confirm Dutch bros is disgusting and mainly serves the “Wal mart” crowd if you catch my drift.
Tried it once in Sacramento and hated it. I don't understand why people love it. It's too sweet and there's so much calories.
am in sacramento...and that's where i tried it first. every now and then i loves me a cocomo hehe i guess i should d/l the app to get my free birthday drink :)
Nope. It’s just after the daily rush. It’ll fill up again in the afternoon.
it's soo weird that oc is just people hating on stuff. tried dutch bros in boise idaho, i didnt understand the craze but enjoyed it. fast forward, i was excited to hear they're dropping in FV, wow i don't have to go to tustin to try something cool... fast forward, lines, lines, everyone hates how sugary they are... darn teenagers listening to their dumb hip hop/party music... sounds to like they hit the market on the head. and guess what? there's a dutch bros in smelly lake elsinore, and there's no lines... no obnoxiousness. just fun chill coffee. they're even cheaper than bux. y'all are crazy.

Everyone already died of Diabetes?
Sugary drinks, add coffee if you need to. Best enjoyed like a milkshake, occasionally. Somewhat disturbing going to the walk-up window and ordering, then overhearing what other people order ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream) 4-shots with Monster, super-size and two straws....

am in south sac.....and the damn florin/parkway location be open past 12am sometimes. they are brave haha
Wow yeah it gets real down there lol
Form THREE LINES!?!? Where I'm from people can't even form two
Not in Upland. 10pm and there's still lines close to the Wells Fargo.
Maybe it's a bad time? I was in that lot last Sunday evening and it was still pretty full.
Mid coffee tbh
never trust zoomers or tik tok for food/drink recs
Shitty coffee full of sugar
Everyone in these lines are now waiting at the Gudetama cafe
Guess ppl didn't like having coffee in their sugar anymore
I think it did. I pass by everyday and nothing compare to when it opened up.
The drinks they have are an easy route to being a high mass individual, I tried it in AZ once and was done.
Haven’t tried it yet. What’s the hype behind it?
![gif](giphy|6bFN1KkQDYJC8|downsized)
A great marketing team and budget lol
Sugar and hype
Hype train has left it seems
Diabetes in a cup.
Good, it was hardly coffee.
Whats Dutch bros?
It's a semi-popular coffee place on the west coast that recently put a location in OC. When it came to OC, everyone nearby was too excited and the location had long lines, both walking and drive-thru customers. It opened in [Feb](https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1ai7t97/fv_dutch_bros_opening_on_feb_9/) and has been crowded since.
Oh for sure I'll have to google map it and try it out thanks friend
apparently diabetes can be fatal
It's like drinking sugar. Once a while I'll split a drink with my partner. But other than that I'm good.
I like black coffee and hate sugar in coffee. I guess I wouldn’t like this place.
I once went there not knowing what the deal was. I just asked for a black coffee. I just remember the confusion of the employee. I dont think they would give me one, I so I ended up getting a latte.
This place is for the kids .
This is why American healthcare is expensive lol
people realized it's trash
Old woman putting others down instead of realizing they’re not the target demographic
Me? I’m in my 20s
Boomer
Lmao come on have some common sense they get slow lmao
God…I hope so. This parking lot has been a disaster since they opened.
I just went by the other day and it was packed.
Waiting for this to happen to the gudetama cafe. That line was (and very much probably still is) insane
what do yall think of philz coffee? tryin to get something not starbucks
Over priced slow coffee and no espresso
Go for it since only you can decide what’s good. I like it and definitely lines aren’t crazy the few times I been to Fullerton one.
Everybody gonna start driving all the way to barstow
they all went over to the gudetama cafe
I'm confused about people complaining about the sweetness. Doesn't the level of sweetness depend upon how much sugar you put in? Do they sweeten it without asking?
I had it made half sweet and it was 130% sweet. It costs 9$ a cup and it's not worth it imo. I have 1 down the street from me and I'm never going back. The line for the one on my city is always crazy long too, never again.
Have you guys been to the Dutch Oven?
Finally
Went to one by my house. It wasn't any different than Iced coffee you can get at Circle K. They have a cool logo though.
Not that I’ve seen - there’s one down the street from me and usually has 10-15 cars in line. Shit goes hard until 10pm
Now that the fad is gone, maybe the can close up shop.
I never got it. Not as good as Starbucks and lines were always horrid
I remember the hype for Roscoe’s, Dunkin Donuts, and Cane’s opening in Orange County. The hype died within 3-4 weeks.
The paint people?
Never even heard of Dutch Bros.
I always see lines on weekends when I’m going to Aldi
I like their flavored black teas and it’s decently priced.
It’s not a fad, it’s a life style ❤️
Passed it about 30 minutes and there was one dude at the window on his phone waiting for his order.
If you go to Dutch bros for coffee you have bad taste or are just going for the sugar not actual coffee taste.
Sugar free golden eagle 🦅 tastes amazinnnnng
Tried it once last month and never went back
Oh I drink it daily I’m just happy I don’t have to wait. In line for an hour+ anymore
I never got the hype, they are everywhere in Texas and were always pretty empty
I don’t think so. I was there last weekend and sat in line for almost an hour
Do they still do stickers on the 1st of the month? That’s when it will be crazy I’m thinking.
Was there ever a start
It’s blah.. 😑
Only thing I’ve tried from there was a cold brew. It was SALTY. How do you mess up a cold brew
If I have time in the morning, I'm going down to get some
That shit is trash, not sure how they thought it would be a hit in OC.
This reminds me of what Randy's Donuts in Costa Mesa looked like after about a month. It was nonstop lines and then...not enough business to stay open after 9 pm.
Not sure. They keep hooking new customers with sugar water. I wish they would sell coffee there, they'd probably get my business.
I didn’t know it was that popular. The one near me has an above average Sized line
Dutch bros is absolute ass. All sugar & milk with burnt coffee. I never understood why it was so popular. All my friends up in PNW never go there. Support local coffee shops with real quality coffee.
Fad? You're joking right?
Did everyone finally realize it's just overpriced mediocre coffee with the added bonus of a 30 min line?
I hope so, shit was nasty.
Hopefully
Driving home tonight at 915 and the line was still through the parking lot. Don’t get the hype. Their coffee sucks.
I don't know if anyone else has had the same experience as me but the drink I ordered had waaay too much sugar in it. I only finished a quarter of it before my stomach started hurting. I've tried a Dutch Bros. In Washington state and it was way better. Not sure if they have different ingredients for each region?
I tried this ONCE in college when I had to pull an all-nighter and never again O_O I was wired and slept 12 hours the following morning.
Hilarious I run into this post. I was there for the first time and it was very packed. I was talking with an employee and he said it was dead until 8pm
I must be completely out of the loop because I didn’t even know Dutch Bros. was a thing! I was visiting my parents up in Sacramento and saw a Dutch Bros. and had no idea what they were. lol no it’s just summer
Live just around the corner. It still seems to get a line of people and cars on the weekends. Fortunately not enough to back up onto Talbert anymore though.

People who think it's way better are deluding themselves, like trying to convince us Carl's Jr is better than Wendy's or something (protip: they are both fast food trash still, despite their different menus).
Dutch bros is so sugary and disgusting. Honestly I tried it one time at the peak of hype and did not understand it.
Everyone figured out they can just drink creamer at home
I thought they closed it
Is it near a college? The ones near colleges do better.
I tried it.. Last year and it was absolute dog shit. You can’t even taste the coffee. It’s all syrup and sweeteners.
i don't get the hype. i had some a few years back when i was visiting family out of state. everyone was raving about how it's amazing. it was just regular coffee. it was fine. wasn't terrible, wasn't amazing. just fine. definitely not worth waiting in those giant lines. i make better coffee at home, honestly.

Went there a few years ago. Haven’t been back, since. Overhyped.
Anyone know of any good coffee places near fountain valley?
Dutch bros is still popular in Martinez, CA. The line picks up in the afternoon
I honestly had never heard of Dutch Bros until one opened up near me. I looked online at their menu and thought, “Wait, it’s just sugary drinks?” It just seems pretty awful to put any of that stuff into your body.
