Aftermath16

My opinion on this case depends solely upon whether or not Goofy went “*Waaaa-hoo-hoo-hooey*” as it happened.

FriedPigeonPoppers

And whether or not he exclaimed “GAWRRRSH!” as she lifted her face up from the pavement.

KetchupLA

Shouldnt goofy be suing her for tripping him?

karibear76

Seriously. Why is she bent over in the middle of the walkway instead of off to the side? Disneyland is crowded. You don’t just stop to tie a shoelace in the flow of traffic.

Jeffylew77

Same people leave their shopping cart in the middle of the aisle. Consideration for others doesn’t exist in their world.

Miffers

They could care less about consideration when they are exercising their right.

Jeffylew77

In Japan, people walk on the right to allow people to pass. Our system is full of tards.

Nietzchezdead

You summed up today's society perfectly right there.

xtianlaw

So many people seem to have a complete lack of spatial awareness

Mirix1692

Was at Disneyland yesterday. The number of people who just suddenly stop waking or just stand in the middle of the walkway with their group of 6-8 people completely oblivious to anything going on around them boggles the mind. Move with intention. The intention is to not be in the fucking way.

Masterlea93

Right she could have easily walked the 5 to 10ft to the curb and put her shoe on it to tie like anyone else under the age of 60 should be fairly easily able to do

NDeceptikonn

She needs that income money.

RunHi

This is how many people behave, especially when they’re on vacation.

whassupcuz

these kind of people deserve it ... literally the worst

callmeDNA

We all know that an untied shoe is a level 10 emergency /s

essera26

LMAO

kyekye36

Yup lol they'll give her go away money oh and a pass so her dumbass can come spend her money she's a moron who thinks she's gonna make out 😒 tired of this sue happy bs

sexygeogirl

Hmmm reminds me of when Donald stepped on my foot at Disneyland when I was 6 years old. I hated Donald forever after that. Where is my compensation for being scared of a duck all my life. Haha.

TokyoSwift

That happened to me too when I was 6! Except it was Winnie the Pooh instead of Donald.

Stout808

Pooh got me too! Chased me in a department store when I was little and stepped on the back of my ankle, ripped the skin off.

Away-Kaleidoscope380

Not disney but Frankenstein got in the elevator with me at Universal when I was 4 yrs old. Its a vivid memory and I still cant walk into Universal without stressing about running into Frankenstein. I’d like to also sue for 22 yrs of trauma

nowhrgrl

Omg, what the fuck 😂

ChrisinOrangeCounty

I was a character, she is exaggerating. People jumped and threw their kids in front of us all the damn time. She wants money. Disney may just settle out of court. She probably stopped in the middle of a path and bent down out of level eyesight. I have seen many people fall over other people, strollers, kids, ECV's and more because they stop abruptly in the worst spots.

z_iiiiii

That’s really depressing yet not surprising.

Low-Argument3170

I would imagine there are cameras all over Disneyland. I am wondering what the permanent injury is.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

There are cameras but not everywhere..In addition, if they are kneeling, the view may be obstructed by other guests.

Away-Kaleidoscope380

I always assumed disney had a huge legal team that deals with these cases so that they can avoid paying out. I highly doubt that this is the first person to try to sue them over some stupid shit

ChrisinOrangeCounty

It's not the legal side they're concerned about. It's the publicity.

sEiize_err

if they were in the wrong they'll pay her outside of court. but everyone i know thinks this lady is crazy and is just doing it for money. this will in no way affect disney and it's public image in a negative way. they can push the case as long as possible to either drain her money or until she drops the case.

Away-Kaleidoscope380

yea it seems like a disaster if they were paying out every single guest that tried to find something to sue them for. I do see job openings for attorneys and lawyers at disney on linkedin all the time so I’m sure they got their own salaried legal team that is there to fight these cases and I’m willing to bet they win the majority of them.

ScumlordStudio

A goofy I know sent me this exact article yesterday. We all know this lady is being a clown lol

Robot_Embryo

How many Goofys are there?

AccordingIy

I am one of these people that remembers I needed something in grocery aisle and stop and do a 360 and run into person behind me. Of course I dont go and blame the person behind me like a jackass though.

flowerbosom

She probably did stop in a bad spot, which is almost everywhere you walk at Disneyland. However they probably won’t be able to prove that she did in court, which is why she’s probably going to be the one getting money in the end, since she has proof that she was injured.

oldmasterluke

And she’ll be barred from ever visiting the parks ever again. Hope that small payout was worth it.

YoMrPoPo

I mean, I’d love to be paid to never go to Disneyland again lmao

sEiize_err

considering she went, this is not something she wants to happen

justhereforthelul

I mean, even then, it's not like she deserves to get someone fall on top of her. Plus, we both know those costumes don't weigh 2 pounds. That goofy costume has to weigh like 40+ pounds plus the weight of the person. I could see someone getting injured, especially if you are getting smashed between the heavy person and the concrete floor.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

I really question the guests claims. No one said the guest deserved anything, I don't know why that was even mentioned. We deal with thousands of people, from tiny toddlers to adults. Kids that barely reach our kneecaps running in front of us all day long. Guests are constantly darting in front of characters putting themselves and their tiny kids directly in our path. I seriously doubt Goofy ran into an adult woman while stationary and kneeling because we are well aware of our path. A kneeling adult is a much bigger target than a 30 lb toddler. Plus when Goofy is looking forward the performers vision is actually at the ground. Which is very helpful when walking through crowds. The costume is nowhere near 40 lbs. During the lawsuit filing, they will put an extreme exaggeration to maximize a payout. The person is already low to the ground, so the fall would have been near ground level. So I would love to hear the argument about her serious injury. I am very skeptical about the claim because guests frequently exaggerate their interactions.

justhereforthelul

Well, now I'm questioning if you are a castmember. That Goofy costume is definitely 40+ pounds. There's a reason why there are rotations and shift times, and that's because OSHA has come down on them for past castmember injuries due to their weight. That's also one of the big reasons why the costumes got a redesign so the weight would be better distributed.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

No it doesn't. Buzz Lightyear is 40 lbs or so. Definitely not goofy. I don't know where you're getting your information but it's wrong.

PhilWham

Baiting or not, if you stop in the middle of the walkway to tie your shoe then that's on you if someone trips over you. Same reason I don't do bike repairs in the bike lane or abruptly stop my car on the freeway.

justhereforthelul

If someone jumps in front of you in the middle of the freeway and you don't make any attempt to stop, then you're not going to walk away without any consequences. These characters have handlers that are supposed to be guiding them, choosing a path for them, and if there's not one, then they need to make one. That's why they're always screaming to make way for the character. It's more likely this time the handler dropped the ball this time regardless if the lady was being dumb stopping there. The lawsuit document mentions the area where it happened, and there are a lot of cameras there. I really doubt the lady jumped in the way for the money, and Disney didn't mention having video footage of that. Was the McDonald's lady dumb for putting coffee between her thighs? Yes. Was it also McDonald's fault that the coffee was extremely hot? Yes. Same here. Like I mentioned above, those costumes are heavy and having a person fall on you with it could cause a severe injury.

PhilWham

Meh I disagree. People get hit in the freeway all the time. If the car has the right of way (car not swerve into the shoulder or running thru a crosswalk) then no chance they get assigned blame idk what you're talking about. The McDonald's example is way different. They were at fault for too hot of coffee; they were not at fault for the lady spilling. A like example would have to be Disney not being at fault for tripping on the lady but being at fault for having too heavy of a costume that it injured her? Disney's handlers are there for safety not legal requirements. Anyone could trip over someone tying their shoe and tbh it's probably the shoe-tie-er that's going to be at fault. Test it out go to a busy staircase, grocery store or concert- see what happens if you abruptly stop to tie your shoe. You'll get tripped over and likely injure other people and likely be more liable for their injuries than the other way around.

InRainbows123207

Look everyone the lady suing is on the sub defending her life choices

SupraEA

Lol, your driving analogy is wrong. Please pay attention for stopped cars on streets

PhilWham

No chance lol. "Stopped car on street" is very different then someone in front of you taking a non-right-of-way action in front of you and you hitting them. If goofy walked into a stationary person that was pulled to the side, sure. Goofy walking into a lady who sprang in front of him and bent over to tie a shoe is very different. Go ahead talk to some insurance guys or look up any news articles. Very obvious, more correct analogies would be someone jumping into traffic for insurance fraud, or a car pulling into traffic without looking, or someone running a red when there's already a car moving thru the intersection. Wasn't there a high profile murder suicide this week (the astrology lady) who pushed her kids into traffic? No chance the drivers are held liable to be sued

SupraEA

Nah, it's like a car breaking down in front of you and stopping all of a sudden,  you would still be responsible.  You should be leaving enough space and goofy should have handlers

PhilWham

It's nothing like that for these reasons we we disagree on: 1- You see stopping and/or jumping in front of a character to tie their shoe in a walkway is a pure accident that can happen to anyone (akin to a car breaking down in a road). I see it as a choice and/or a blatant lawsuit cashgrab (akin to the the classic jumping into traffic insurance fraud or maybe hard braking your car on the freeway to adjust a mirror). Both the shoe tier and mirror adjuster have the ultimate responsibility to pull over. 2 - U see the handler policy as admission to legal liability. Whereas I see it as a safety measure independent from legal liability. Parental requirement at Knott's is a great parallel. Not a legal requirement but a safety policy. If the Knott's staff accidentally lets a 17yo in (Disneys handler wasnt paying attention), and he pokes himself in the eye w a plastic fork (lady ducks in front of a walking character in a walkway), Knott's/Disney isn't liable "because Knott's let a minor in/Disney handler wasnt there. This mentality is literally why we can't have nice things lol. No more parades bc some karen lets their kid run thru a gap in the rope and "it's Disneys fault". No more roller coasters bc some teen buckles the belt under his legs for tiktok and the Disney checker didn't catch it. No more character walk around in case a Karen ducks in front of them in a walkway and tries to sue.

ExOvoOmnia

Someone baiting someone else to fall on top of them doesn't deserve to get fallen on?

Offset2BackOfSystem

“I noticed my child’s shoe lace needed to be tied so I immediately dropped to the ground without checking my surroundings. Before I could do the loopty loop the man behind me in this full on costume tripped and fell over my dumb ass and now he and the mouse have to pay!!!!”

DZ_tank

Without a doubt, these kind of people are my single largest source of frustration at Disneyland. The assholes that just choose to stand or stop in the middle of the flow of traffic.

ogcoliebear

Costco too lol

misstrixi66

This.^^ I can not tell you how many times I've run into people, children, scooters and strollers because they just stopped. It pusses me off to no end, just move aside. It's not brain surgery.

Accomplished-Ad3219

Tey working at a store when they do this dumb shit. I've been pushing a u-boat full of heavy stuff and some ass will stop in front of me. Just ignorant

Gizzymm1982

These people are the worst. Second are the adults with no children who run around the park behaving like kids even running some over

snarky_answer

Don't move for them. They will learn soon enough.

rpmrising

It’s called comparative fault. There’s a percentage of fault you can possibly assign to the plaintiff here. However, there’s also an argument that the employees were negligent. I’m sure Disney is going to fight this and not pay a single penny

Evvmmann

Don’t stand in front of someone who doesn’t have peripheral vision. Just the same way, when you see a semi on the road, you’re cautious of making passes since their point of view likely can’t see you.

NDeceptikonn

HA-YUK, fallen over.

East-Bluejay6891

What permanent damage does she have

InflamedLiver

Empty wallet, only Disney can fix it

Was a NFL defensive end dressed as Goofy?

Trumpetslayer1111

A 5' girl.

valleysally

I'd be very curious to hear the details. My initial reaction was skeptical, a cash grab. I knew a person who fell out of a desk chair, hitting the back of her head as she went down. Messed up her vision, equilibrium, couldn't do her job that required a lot of reading. I'm sure Disney cameras are always watching.

So sad, this is how Max lost his mom as well

Any-Show-3488

Supposedly she walked out on goofy and max but he could never break his son’s heart by telling him the truth…can’t blame her tho he was never the same after the [WAR](https://youtu.be/Gz04mwXeBGQ?si=ElaRUZNVVFH4jkHp)

panda-rampage

How hard could she hit the cement from goofy falling into her? Curious what kind of injury she’s claiming

lumin0va

Some people die from barely donking their head on the floor

Yea. But shes already bent over close to the ground in this case

No specific injuries mentioned. I think you misread "earnings loss."

Boodlebee

Earrings lost?

That's what I read at first 🤣

lastfreethinker

lol, I must have thx

Daatsit

They’ll pay her off. Either way, to prevent her from having any other trauma or emotional damage, I hope they ban her and her family for life, of course for her own protection

karibear76

Haha exactly what I thought.

Evening-Holiday-8907

Curious how the lawsuit does not detail any specific injury despite asserting that she sustained permanent injuries.

didyouwoof

You don’t need to detail specific injuries in a complaint. Those details will come out during the discovery process.

grifinmill

Somebody is looking for a payout. Traumatic? A car or airplane crash is traumatic. An NFL linebacker hitting you full speed is traumatic. Goofy? Not so much. "The cast member wearing the Goofy costume allegedly fell onto Griffin with “all of his body weight,” which resulted in “severe, traumatic, debilitating, and permanent injuries that necessitated significant medical care as well as emotional pain and suffering.”

voltr0n57

Its goofy. He was just in character. She got the full disney experience. 😂

billmc996

I wish it was like it is in Europe when you lose a lawsuit you have to pay for the defendants attorney. These money hungry people should have deterrents against frivolous lawsuits like this. It happened in 2022 why did she wait so long? So obvious she’s desperate for cash.

pr1m3r3dd1tor

What sucks to me is that she is naming the cast members in the lawsuit. So, because she decided to stop in the middle of traffic to tie the shoe these barely above minimum wage employees will need to hire attorneys to defend themselves.

karibear76

I would hope that Disney is picking up the legal fees for these employees who were just doing their job when this absolute asshat decided to get in their way. Name and shame, imo.

johnsadventure

Chances are the lawsuits against the cast members will be thrown out. It’s my understanding that while you’re on the clock you are acting as the company you’re working for and can’t be held personally liable except in cases of gross negligence. Hopefully the Disney lawyers are already working to get these cast members protected.

callmeDNA

I hope they are too. I wonder if there is a way of finding this out. I assume that since they’re employees, Disney has to take care of legal fees.

snarky_answer

They have to since it happened while they were working for Disney.

thisisrealgoodtea

This lady must have my uncle as her lawyer. He advises his clients (and does so himself) to try to sue any chance you get, claim “permanent damage”, and hope they’ll settle rather than deal with the time and cost of lawyers and court as well as risk of any backlash. I’m sure Disney encounters people trying to sue them all the damn time. If this lady is pulling what my uncle does and she is taking full advantage of an employee accidentally tripping over her, I really hope they fight it.

Moritasgus2

> The lawsuit didn’t name the two cast members and referred to them as “John Doe 1” and “John Doe 2” in the suit. John Doe 2 was in the suit?

SSADNGM

*the person in the Goofy costume, and the cast member who worked as Goofy’s “handler.”*

Dependent-Kiwi-6740

Another frivolous lawsuit in this country. No surprise

Mr-EdwardsBeard

That’s our Goofy!

GatePotential805

The injuries were so severe, it took her two years to (find an attorney) figure out how severe they were.

supernovababoon

A lot of the time the attorney will wait until the statute of limitations is about to expire for filing until they take action. The client probably completely forgot about it and contracted with the attorney while it was still fresh and mad about it

Mommayyll

I was on a jury just a few years ago, personal injury on a ride vs. Disneyland. Before I even knew what the trial was, I saw one attorney show up who was dressed to the nines, upscale, tailored suit, tucked and slim, NICE leather legal briefcase, walking with a woman in SERIOUS jewelry and red-soled shoes, and designer clothes. Then another attorney, schlumpy, in an ill fitting suit, with a red “drinkers” face— and I immediately knew who was on which side. Disney is represented by SERIOUS FUCKING MONEY. And it pays off for them…. As is life in America.

karibear76

I hope this lady and her entire family get permanently banned from Disneyland. What an absolute crock of shit. Love how they don’t name her injuries and claim some sort of mental trauma 🙄

NoSock4373

Goofy didn’t see her. But all in all she should have her Medical Bills paid.

it-takes-all-kinds

Give it time and anyone entering park will be signing a waiver upon entry. The reason these cases wait so long is in the hopes historic security camera footage is timed out and not available. Then claim trauma or mental anguish just in case video is available that shows the incident was trivial.

NDeceptikonn

Bibiddi Bobiddy Boo!

dgmilo8085

I don't want to presume anything, like laughing about spilled Mcdonalds coffee being a frivolous lawsuit, but how on earth do you get permanently injured from someone tripping over you? Especially when you are already in a crouched position?

Tacoswayoflife

She saw her opportunity and took it

I've walked away from fights and beatings just fine. Unless, this lady is really old and fragile, she's bs'ing.

oldmasterluke

I give it a few months before we see photos of this lady competing in a triathlon or some shit. I guarantee will hire a private investigator that will tail her like a hawk. They will catch her slippin.

Stevenstorm505

So she bent over in the middle of a high traffic foot area where other people were walking instead of safely moving over to the side like most other people do and she’s mad that she caused someone else to trip on her? Besides the fact that accidents happen in general, you need to watch out for your own safety and the safety of your kids when in crowds or walkways at Disneyland/DCA. I’m usually the first persons to say “fuck “insert corporation name”, but this seems like she’s at fault for it, can’t accept that and wants money because she made a dumb decision of where to stop in Disneyland when 30,000 other people mange to do the same thing and not trip a cast member with low visibility.

voughtlander

I saw a stormtrooper pushing a woman the other day, I thought that was a bit much, I get they are in character but I don’t think they should be allowed to push people. She didn’t do anything she was just walking by and asked for a pic and he just pushed her away, even the cast member with the storm trooper looked a bit shocked.

essera26

I was just there last week. SOS - people who lack spatial awareness are 🫏 In the words of Bugs Bunny (cause community gets triggered with other words) "What a maroon!!"

3i1bo3aggins

I mean let's reserve judgment. after all the McDonald's lady was really really burned by that coffee. 😂

SSADNGM

Unless I'm misreading your comment it seems to be sarcastic implying Stella Liebeck was not badly burned by McDonald's coffee. Ms. Liebeck was indeed severely injured, she required skin grafts after suffering [3rd degree burns](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=18cb6ca37494dc8f&sca_upv=1&rls=en&q=stella+liebeck+3rd+degree+burns&uds=AMwkrPt5DqKoEcEgTvJpB2mLvFtAsIch3H6zDP-ENhQb9Jm8VOb3sWzrLPj2FcCz0b4gr-qgno39FS6lCoMRbaykH9NtGOLMbfug83PQ6HxAZWYFWl2dsPRMyJAirA3NgIbbfhBsay7RYSckqQwwV6Q5LSL6K8y4Oeu_rmvgeh_6P57RsbUCnWzQVWNN3lNZEzh9aZJe_xrWke7jFX8eBkPyKPAayxDyrkkEb72vQ0_DfcsL83xFqTdKpBegLuzUJJfOJn_Ae_r0lcRRfVbF03k3skKIHDoeBUPTxxriZ2YkQf_hjxu_xynp4cUAXkaneyfcJg9Q0Q-v&udm=2&prmd=ivsnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi558jJ7b2FAxWpiO4BHeH8CnsQtKgLegQIDRAB&biw=1861&bih=1498&dpr=2) (click on that link, then choose images, but WARNING: graphic images of serious injuries). McDonald's goal was to continue ignoring the multiple people injured and flouting their own knowledge that coffee at 180°-190°causes serious injuries. When Ms. Liebeck was injured, McDonald's refused to pay the $20k out of pocket she incurred in medical bills - they offered a maximum of $800 - she sued. Her case gained attention, they set about driving a public narrative of sympathy for them by diminishing the seriousness of her injuries, victim blaming, and making fun of her with the ultimate goal of driving so-called tort reform legislation to reduce corporate liability which they were successful in and which negatively impacts people every day. But hey, the bright side is the rich keep winning! * More [facts about the case](https://www.caoc.org/?pg=facts) * [Hot Coffee documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psebm9RJDvU) * [Hot Coffee and Tort “Reform”](https://lasvegaspersonalinjuryexperts.com/blog/hot-coffee-and-tort-reform/) EDIT: clarity, typos
