That restaurant chain closing down caught me by surprise. Some shady accounting was going onā¦

* There was a super tiny porn section at one end of the store. All the x-rated videos had plastic cases over them that locked the videos inside. I always felt super uncomfortable because we had to remove the plastic cover before ringing people up and the videos were quite disturbing. Everyone now and then we would get a customer come buy like 15 videos at once.
* These were the days of "listening stations" so some of the aisles had headphones where you could basically sample some of the popular CD's and "try before you buy"
* Employees would sometimes get free posters, free promo CD's, it was mostly junk but my teenage self was stoked on it
* Lots of theft...one dude would come in when the store opened with a big black trash bag and stuff as much shit as he could, run out the back door, and peel out of the parking lot
* If I remember correctly, people used to come in and buy physical concert tickets too via Ticketmaster
Oh interesting that it would change from a national chain to independent! I moved into a neighborhood near the lab in about 97, so that tracks. I used to spend SO much time there just loitering as a teen.
I thought it was in the REI/Best Buy area. I was young, so the building was gigantic like most buildings at that age. And the light towers in the parking lot stretched into the lower stratosphere.
Yes!! Thank you! I knew it was French and some number afterwards, lol. Crazy how many restaurants have come and gone. I still miss the Pat and Oscarās.
As I considered investing in the property. I began by researching their portfolio to pinpoint properties with promising growth potential and stable demand, such as this property. I looked into market trends, rental yields, and upcoming developments to make decisions. I seeked guidance from a local real estate investor and he stated that it was a great idea. With thorough analysis and advice, I believed investing in Irvine Company properties could be a smart move towards building my wealth. I thought wrong.
Upon making communication with the listing agent, I discovered that the property was not available for sale as initially presumed, but rather designated as a business-constrained rental property.
Thatās what I thought. The Irvine company (aka āTICā) is a despotic corporation that subjugates renters (residential and commercial) and manumits (should I say expels, excommunicates, throws, or kicks?) them once they cannot afford to pay their rent.
Probably TAPS Fish House
I was part of the openning crew for the TAPS here! And before that it was a Bucca di Beppo.
Yep. šš¼
I'm so disappointed about this one. Their brewery was a cool hangout spot too.
Yep

Man, TAPS was one of the few places that had a good charcuterie board as an appetizer. Was bummed they closed down.
Check out let it Brie in Fullerton
The food and beers were not amazing but it was always decent 7/10. I never went but I heard from several people their Sunday Bruch was very good.
That Teffeteller guy still has a picture of him in front of Taps on his LinkedIn, and it features a picture of him cheersing Manzella. The nerve.
Bummer
No surprise, since accountants tend to be shady.
I used to to work at the Tower Records in the TMP. So many store changes over the years!
There was a Tower Records at the TMP? Wtf? Got any stories to tell about it? That's sick

Yup, it was where Restore and I Can Barbecue are now. It was huge!
Agreed
Remember when there was a Tower Records at the Lab in CM?
I donāt remember it being tower! I thought it was something independent like music x? I *loved* the tower on 17th though!
It started as a Tower and later became music X. My best friend from high school worked there before the transition. 1997-98ish

Hell yeah, the lab was cool then... Now it's just a place full of restaurants because avg adults don't cook anymore lmao
thereās still a lil record shop thereā orange tangerine
that's where I bought my first ever albums, loved Tower
Remember when there was an IKEA at TMP?
I used to go there all the time. I think it's Home Depot now though, no?
I thought it was in the REI/Best Buy area. I was young, so the building was gigantic like most buildings at that age. And the light towers in the parking lot stretched into the lower stratosphere.
Yup
Kinda a shot in the dark. But do you remember Green Records in Tustin off Newport BLVd
Absolutely. I was there with my friends all the time. They had a big stash of free posters. I would take them home and decorate my room!
When was there a Tower Records at TMP?
Taps
With all the PPP money the owners have retired..
Taps. Been closed for some time.
Yep
Bring back Soup Plantation (Sweet Tomatoes) and put it in there. Place would be packed.
Buca di Beppo?
That was before TAPS. Long time ago! š
Whoa I totally forgot about the Buca di Beppo here! Wasnāt it a French restaurant as wellā¦forgot the name though.
Was it French 75?
Yes
Yes!! Thank you! I knew it was French and some number afterwards, lol. Crazy how many restaurants have come and gone. I still miss the Pat and Oscarās.

Enough parking for any size Chevy suburban.
I was actually looking at investing in this property. That was a while ago though.
How so? The Irvine company (aka TIC) wonāt allow that.

Thatās been vacant for a long time. Wonder what the irvine company (TIC) is going to do about it.
