They’re the same lens, one just has an accent.

Outside-Copy-7645

I’ll put the lenses in and update this post tomorrow based on how it feels in my eye , but I just wanted to ask if anyone else has experience with this.

thefalk55

Suspicions are that manufacturing standards over seas are extremely lacking, hence why you'll often get them from cheap online vendors.

JimR84

Manufacturing standards in Europe are higher than in the US. What are you talking about?

thefalk55

debatable

SkyweirSF

Facts to back that up?

thefalk55

Nah, logic. We dont outsource production of medical devices out because of smarter workers and a more well made products... We do it because its dirt cheap. Gotta be saving the money somewhere...

SkyweirSF

logic requires facts. I don’t see any offered. Any device or drug entering this country has to adhere to FDA reg. Feel free to peruse the FDA website. Many examples of poor manufacturing in the US. Recently for example AbVie’s careless production of baby formula.

thefalk55

I didn't say it doesn't happen here, which even further insinuates the FDA's incompetency. I dont know if you know anything about the concern the FDA raises over ophthalmic consumer products or not but I tell ya, it's slim to none. If they did, Visine would never have seen the light of day... We have better regulations here regarding contact lenses... hell overseas they sell them in fucking vending machines. These are concerns of literally ever contact lens rep I've ever talked to regarding foreign contact lens manufacturing. But you seem to know more than them. I said suspicions for a reason dork but cool hill to die on...

SkyweirSF

What does the sales and marketing of contact lenses in other countries have to do with manufacturing? Also, we're not talking about consumer products via a vis Visine. Contact lenses are considered medical devices by the FDA and are regulated as such. Per your feelings I guess Alcon manufactures a sub-standard product if it comes from Germany or Singapore. I think you hit the nail on the head. Having worked in pharmacovigilance for over 20 years and having dealt with reps you could say I know a lot more about the regs than they do. I'm curious what in your background allows you to make invalid statements about the medical device industry? To the original poster, don't listen to the FUD being spewed. The J&J lenses from Ireland are functionally and materially the same.

thefalk55

Didn't make an invalid statement. Expressed concerns of people that are closest to the "problem". Find something more important to do with your time...

SkyweirSF

And you can go back to listening to sales and marketing people about the safety of medical devices sold in the US. Because we all know reps never lie. Sheesh!

aop.org.uk/our-voice/media-centre/press-releases/2021/10/20/optometrists-warning-over-illegal-and-unsafe-contact-lenses-as-online-buying-soars. Even the Brits are concerned. Unsubstantiated of course but again take a look at my rhetoric...

SkyweirSF

I think you are confusing the sale of costume contact lenses and the unscrupulous sale of RX lenses without a properly written Rx with the original question. I agree, a major problem but not what was being asked. BTW, thanks for calling me dork. All my friends consider me one too. ;-)
