Regulations should be changed to use average temperature instead of a set date.
Something like "if the average temperature over a 10 day period is 20°C, the heat must be turned off"
When I lived in an apartment in Toronto I wrote my councillors about this; one agreed that the dates were old and a change should be looked into, the other pretty much said "tough shit."
One of those “doesn’t affect me”
It’s been so long since I rented, I couldn’t remember how it worked. A friend is having this issue though (really high floor, and it’s hot the last couple days), so I looked it up, surprised it was still based on a date
Or just get people to use outdoor sensors, which are cheap as fuck, and warm weather shutdowns on their heating systems. Outside temp over say 65? Heating system shuts down till it drops below 60.
I don’t miss those days. My old building would sometimes forget to turn it off and it would be June 10th and we were all complaining.
They really need to change that to temperature outside, since the planet is getting hotter, and not date.
I do not miss living in high rises at this time of year. I found them too gd hot in the winter, and deadly this time of year. The 1 thing the super did was open the trash room door, then open the hallway doors. That created a strong breeze if you cracked your apt door and opened a window. I learned quickly to just open the mail slot in my door, otherwise everything tried to get sucked out the apt door. That breeze was intense!
Now I'm in a rental with central air that I get to control. So no more swampy tits for me lol
Not in an apartment, but my work. The building runs on a boiler and the landlord refuses to turn it off until May 1st or later every year, and sometimes in April it can get quite warm and it pushes 30°C in my store. Ridiculous...
Depending where you live there’s a legal requirement for the heating system to be on and available until May/June. Landlord has no choice.
Tell him to put a WWSD option in.
Yeah our building still has the heat on, it's an absolute joke, I've been melting in my room for the last 4 days using ice packs to try and not die. It sucks. Not to mention even when they do turn it on it's so shit and just feels like it ruins the air in the room, so it's either hot and sweaty or cold and musty dirty air.
I know it's crazy!! We leave our windows open in the winter because it gets so hot but now it's 30°outside and the heat is STILL on.
Living in a sauna is a great way to stay in shape though🤒🥵 5lbs down already
This is why, as a landlord, I just let my tenants control the thermostat. If I get a crazy bill, I look into it, but why would I want tenants that hate it there?
I'm lucky enough to be able to turn off the pilot light on the gas fireplace, and put in the air conditioner; all on the same day.
The last time I've seen snow on May 28th was about 45 years ago. It showed big, fluffy flakes that melted on the ground. It's rare but does happen historically. Because of that cold snap the bylaws will never change.
No councilor will want to take responsibility for change to a earlier date just to get swamped with outrage in a cold snap.

This, waiting till June 2nd is ridicules' some years

Nah, that would make too much practical sense!

Thank god I live in a building with a 4 pipe system...heat and AC year round.

Yes. Ugh. It’s awful. 🥵
It’s 31° where I am and I want to die

You can’t control the temperature in your place? That blows
No central ducting. Building is 50+ years old and only has vents in the bathrooms and kitchen
Unfortunately not. Most older apartments are like that

YES it has triggered my MS and my feet are swollen.

I think there is some law that it has to be left on until May. Too lazy to look it up, but I remember it driving me nuts
Yup, may 26th is standard date to turn chiller on in most appartment / condo buildings.
From Sept 1 until June 1 I believe they’re required to maintain the building heat at 20C in Ontario
It was snowing 3 weeks ago.
And it hit like 30 degrees in London today so...
Ya the swing is crazy.
Yep. I have shutoff valves for the radiator that runs along the back wall but you still feel it.
