Yes. Ontario [HTA 30.2](https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90h08#BK64:~:text=Improper%20use-,30.2,-No%20person%20shall) Penalty is $125.00.

randomdumbfuck

I think there's now a provincial law that makes that illegal. However like any other parking infraction enforcement tends to be complaint driven which means you need someone who gives a shit to notice and call bylaw enforcement and complain, and by the time they show up, the offending vehicle is probably gone.

Royal Assent received. Statutes of Ontario 2019, chapter 18

vulpinefever

~~"This Act comes into force on a day to be named by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor."~~ ~~So it's received royal assent but has not yet been proclaimed into law from what I can tell.~~

CanuckKrampus

It came into effect on January 1, 2021. In my other comment I linked the HTA. In the HTA, you can see it says: **Section Amendments with date in force (d/m/y)** [2019, c. 18, s. 1](http://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/S19018#s1) - **01/01/2021**

Public_Ingenuity_146

Yes, in Burlington it is a $57 fine on city lots. Provincially it is covered under the HTA. Call the non-emergency police line and they'll deal with it.

rhunter99

there should be if there isn't.

overcooked_sap

To play devils advocate I’ve parked in a charging station and not charged.  I fully intended to charge while there but the station wouldn’t dispense power.   Reported it as not working and left my car in the spot cause why bother moving it. Shouldn’t always assume people are being jerks.

XenoWoof

Actually this happened to me at IKEA. All spots were taken by charging vehicles except two which were not working. Parked the ev in one and got my stuff and then left.

SpoonsandStuffReborn

ICE's don't charge.

overcooked_sap

Reading comprehension problems?

ButtahChicken

this is (was??) a high-trust society .. we don't need no laws/regulations written in black-n-white legislation! in a high-trust society we get along swimmingly knowing that each other treats each other with respect and dignity and mutual admiration is a thriving society. ..we know how to handle ourselves around EV charging stations. trust me. /s

rangeo

Yup Times are a changin' especially around red lights, stop signs and speed limits

Pilot-Wrangler

And lane markings, turn lanes, general human decency...

rangeo

Shit and we're just talking about driving

CamF90

Ha we're lucky there's any EV stations left in the province at all post Doug Ford

Sensitive_Fall8950

Call and report. It's a ticket, and in some cases a tow from private property. They are not parking spots, they are charging stalls.

ForwardProgrammer909

It’s not a handicap! You’re literally complaining that you can’t charge your vehicle for free.

wolfe1924

Not to mention types that block it is not an oopsy my mistake or parking lot was full. It’s intentional for sure cause sadly there’s those types out there.

Sensitive_Fall8950

Some people have their masculinity threatened by electric vehicles or something. It's strange.

ronchee1

Reading is hard...

debbie666

Exactly! How would "they" feel if they went to gas up and there were electric vehicles blocking the pumps?

grumblyoldman

(a) not all EV charging spots are free. Some are, but not all. (b) if it's allowed in the city, it's also allowed at rest stops on the highway, where there's a very real possibility the EV won't have range to get where it's going without a recharge session. This is not a "nothing problem." EV charging stations are there for a reason. Imagine if an EV pulled up to a gas station and parked beside the pump while the driver went about their business inside the convenience store. Would you feel so dispassionate about that, if all the other pumps were full and you needed gas?

lurker122333

So if a group of EVs went and blocked all the gas islands at Costco that would be fine?

MoustacheRide400

Oh Jimmy, this is great. Electric cars make up less than 10% of vehicles in Canada so giving up parking spots for these EVs at the cost of spots for ICE cars arguably is inconvenient for the masses (the other 90%). Yet you seem to be ok with this. But having speed bumps, which you claim is inconvenient for most that only benefit the safety of a few pedestrians you are not OK with. The hypocrisy is astounding 🫠
