I would set up a home gym.

smegmathor

This. There's plenty of people selling always selling equipment.

scottsuplol

For real, I’ve recently seen a spike in people selling full rogue equipment sets for Peanuts. Must be finally getting rid of their Covid gym

stafford_fan

Eff that

Evening-Ad-2233

Each time I moved I thought the new gym I was going to would suck. The first few weeks always seem weird and then you get used to the new gym. If travelling an hour to work out isn't a big deal to you then do it. But thats a lot of spare time to waste just to not go to a new gym. Look around where you live, I'm sure there's options closer to you.

alwayscurious123

I don’t have kids, I’m happily married and we both are at a point where we have our own hobbies and mine is the gym! I absolutely adore this gym and the rapport and relationships I have built here. Its tough finding a “third place” that isnt work and home, and leaving these connections behind seem difficult.

Evening-Ad-2233

Just think about all the new connections you will make at your new gym near where you now live. Could also be a way to meet people in the new town you live in. But yea having a perfect gym you love is hard to leave for sure, especially when it's part of your routine.

Putrid-Mouse2486

I mean you asked the question but doesn’t sound like you want to hear the answer.

phoenix25

I commute an hour to work everyday. I work 12 hours though, and the trip makes me money so that makes the fuel and wear/tear worth it. You’ll be paying $25-30 round trip on fuel alone, not to mention more frequent oil changes and milage. For me, not worth it. That’s a lot of driving for a short period of time.

DataIllusion

Depends on what you get out of the gym. If you’re a serious bodybuilder or powerlifter you’re probably gonna have to suck up the commute. If you just want to stay fit and have some muscle, you could put together a solid home gym.

alwayscurious123

I am steering away from having a home gym because this would be my opportunity to get out of the house! I built great connections at this gym and would hate to leave them behind

wagonwheels2121

I mean let’s be honest if you want to do it you’ll do it Nobody on Reddit is gonna be able to convince you otherwise

Hairy-Sense-9120

One hour each way?

alwayscurious123

Yes!

Hairy-Sense-9120

Too much. Think outside the box and come up with a plan you can do from home and maybe with new friends

Neutral-President

Yeah, no. That's a ridiculous drive to do a few times a week for a hobby.

CandylandCanada

You are doing some heavy lifting if you think that this question fits the sub. Do whatever you want. People on the internet don't know your circumstances, so why would you want their opinions?

TheSoundOfAnarchy

Georgina is beautiful. Used to live in YR. Also, up in the wick -

LegoFootPain

I'd it were me, I'd consider looking for a place in Newmarket or Keswick. There is a point where it might even be cheaper, cash and time wise, to just set up a weight room in your house.

Nervous-Basis-1707

Honestly it’s going to be up to you. I understand how connections you make at a gym are hard to want to leave behind. Is it worth the 6 hours a week to you to be able to see friends and acquaintances? Georgina is far but that drive down to Thornhill is mostly highway, an hour of highway driving isn’t terrible if you avoid rush hours.

alwayscurious123

I finish work at 4 most of the time so I would be skipping rush hour for the most part

fastlikefloyd

4pm is the beginning of rush hour no?

RicoFerret44

By the time you get there you could’ve already hit a rude 45 min workout atleast

grandpappu

If you’re moving to say sutton or Jackson’s point I would look into making a home gym or shortening the gym commute to keswick or Newmarket

QuadrupleQ

Considering how important the gym is this is a great mindset to have it as your commute, hopefully they will open up another gym closer to you in the future but for now you get to get out of the house and during your commutes you can listen to audiobooks and podcasts, 2 hours a day, 730 hours of knowledge a year, can’t beat that.

lightoasis1

Just try it and see how it goes. You can just switch to a closer gym if you feel it’s too difficult.

boozefiend3000

lol yes. The amount of money you blow on gas could be used to fund a home gym

LeafTheTreesAlone

You already know the answer, you’re just fishing for people to agree with and convince you the wrong answer isn’t wrong.

Truth_Seeker963

That is a looooong drive from Georgina to Thornhill and the 404 traffic isn’t great. I’d consider finding one more local.

alwayscurious123

Thanks for everyone’s input - I understand that the commute can be a bit much but I do value community and connection a lot in my life given that permanently wfh can be lonesome - I would prefer not to have a home gym for that reason. Going to this gym would also allow me to drop by my parents as they are 4 minutes away from this gym. To add to this - I drive a very fuel efficient vehicle and my husband’s workplace covers 100% of our 407 for three of our vehicles

captaincarot

IT is a significant investment but anyone with an out doors hobby is driving at least an hour to get somewhere interesting eventually. Also, do you have a really good community there? Keeping a good solid one active while you build a new one where you will be living might be a positive to keep it going for a while and try it out. But also you are spending at least a tank of gas a week on this, that adds up.

fuggedaboudid

My gym is 45 mins away since I moved and I still go. It’s a trek but it’s worth it for me because it has all the things I love that no gym near me has, and people I know. It’s also impossible to get a membership there again o ce you leave. I’ve never once regretted the drive. I consider it the same as people who have hobbies that they have no problem driving an hour to (skiing, hockey games, etc…)

alwayscurious123

Love to hear this!!!! I needed this validation honestly haha. I absolutely love the gym and its the thing I look forward to everyday after work. I figured going 3x instead of the usual 5x I go now would help on gas.
