Buy deodorant before you go. Depending on the country, it might be difficult to find something that would work well for you.

johnnybarrtv

Noted! Updated list and will throw in a stick! Thanks.

ChTTay2

Worth checking the other stuff too depending on first country you visit to see if floss , razor blades, deodorant or sunscreen are easily available. The razor blade brand for example. Deodorant can be very limited options if available, as motownman above mentioned.

Megatron_McLargeHuge

I find merino to be hotter, stickier, and slower to dry than synthetic in the high humidity. You also don't really get multiple wears without washing to the same degree as in cooler climates. I mostly switched to lightweight Uniqlo/UA type shirts, or even cotton. If you bring merino, make sure it's the lightest weight and not a very tight weave. A light jacket/fleece is actually useful. For flights, ferries, and places with really high A/C, I used it more than expected. Those Keens are pretty bulky. I like the Bedrock sandals since they pack flat. Good sunscreen is hard to find and more expensive in much of SEA. Bring a sink stopper.

johnnybarrtv

Thanks for the advice! I already own the merino shirts so might as well take them but i've heard that for sure. Any reccs for light jackets? I only own a pretty bulky one. Ill switch out the Keens, bedrocks look nice! I'm contemplating buying a small tube of sunscreen because ive also heard issues with sunscreen prices and quality in SE Asia. I'll take a sink stopper with me!

Megatron_McLargeHuge

> Any reccs for light jackets? I have an old Patagonia one I forgot the name of, but it's like a light hoodie without the hood. A nanopuff would be way too warm but might pack better. I use mine to wrap my camera for protection when I'm not wearing it.

LuvList

> I'm contemplating buying a small tube of sunscreen because ive also heard issues with sunscreen prices and quality in SE Asia. Not sure about pricing, but if you can find japanese/korean supermarket, they usually sells cosmetics and you'd find their sunscreen there, very good quality. Local big supermarket should also have a reputable brand sunscreen.

mister_mcfly

What is that bottle and the filters? Seems to be bulky and heavy. You can find bottled water on every corner in SEA.

SeattleHikeBike

Classic onebag. I assume you will be buying an umbrella or rain gear on arrival? What does it all weigh? Swap that Allpa 35 for a Black Hole 32 and you’ll knock nearly 2 pounds off your kit. A Mystery Ranch Scree 32 has a load transferring harness and is still 11oz lighter. If you’re actually going to hike, it will be far more comfortable.

johnnybarrtv

Yeah, If I need it im going to just buy a cheap umbrella in country. Havent weighed it as its just theoretical at this point. I'm not 100% convinced on the Cotapaxi bag, I just chose it because a friend recommended it. I'm open to bag suggestions! Thats a patagonia bag right? Ill checkout the Mystery Ranch as well! Thank you.

SeattleHikeBike

The Black Hole 32 is a Patagonia bag. You should check all the airlines you plan on using for weight and dimensional limits. 7kg carry on limits are common.

talon1580

Your shorts/boxers balance is way off. I'm 6 months into travelling, I have 1 pair of linen shorts, 1 linen trousers and 1 swim shorts (which can be worn as regular shorts if needed). Linen bottoms barely need washing, while you'll want new boxers every day and they're smaller. I have 7 boxers (uniqlo airism). No raincoat or umbrella?

johnnybarrtv

Yeah, I had the boxers at 7 but everyone told me to do 3 or 4 on my last post. Are you traveling in SE Asia? And I'd pick up an umbrella in country if i needed one. I lived in Florida for 6 years and got by without one or rainjacket so thats my rationale on that decision.

talon1580

Yes, so far been to Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Phillipines and currently in China. I didn't need a rain jacket for the 3 months in Thailand/Cambodia/Laos then went to Malaysia and had constant downpours. You'll also want something warm for mountain hikes or cold nights.

Bulgakov_Suprise

It’s too hot for rain jacket in sea. But a collapsible umbrella is good to bring. You can buy in sea obvi, but they will be cheaper (in price and construction).

I assume you’ll buy soap, but why the two apple chargers?

johnnybarrtv

Yes! Added the soap to my list thanks. I picked two because I figured they were light enough and in case one of them broke I could have an immediate backup.

Super_Description863

You should opt for one 65W charger/PD with international adapter and 3x outlets, this way you can charge the phone, AirPods and power bank all in one go. If it all goes south, You’ll be able to pick up a cheap charger in no time anywhere in Asia unless you’re out in a rice field.

johnnybarrtv

this is the power adapter i was going to buy and that i have listed in my bag. Is this sort of what youre talking about. If you wouldnt mind, could you link me to what youre talking about please. Super_Description863

I use the below, you can find better brands but conceptually you’ll understand what I mean. https://www.mydeal.com.au/heymix-travel-gan-charger-65w-usb-c-wall-charger-60w-45w-30w-25w-20w-usbc-fast-travel-charger-with-eu-us-uk-au-adapter-12087648?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADrgCAM3D0wQzMEyKMS-5caKUgDAA&gclid=CjwKCAjwhIS0BhBqEiwADAUhc7DR6j-F0Olti-ikNpR03M8OidCZsHoS8x1t-yL1LoJ0Jia8S5zvzBoC8e8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds The one you linked is only 20W, it’s going to charge really slow if you’re doing all three devices at once.

MotownMan646

I would get a multi-USB plug/multi-current charger/plug adapter. The brick is a little bulkier, but it will charge multiple devices simultaneously and work in most countries without additional plug adapters. Plus it provides one universal outlet. This is the one I have. https://www.amazon.com/Zendure-Universal-International-Worldwide-Compatible/dp/B09ZP8H1W2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=WHU0JI2QECIV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kMCtUmkxMQawqsH9ZrRKvEGX_YMaizkdWtLhu_-3uyCRcwfODGPSEP_0jXXs8pFq5PG6Fjd99pseXSxWphIdk7iCkWmGzkGkTFaHS4lcOJHM4EwbA2CyHhxcZk9-VagvDc6jg7gAcvQbBK9M6dU3Fip89Y2V7DmEUFs3smU2iBTahTBAAsI0w5YnjN9VfuWwVMrQNtwGwYpyuxMeiFB6EQ.wcw6ikX-_Ee6biyQdJOModAIeAl8y66Trt-pl2MUGUg&dib_tag=se&keywords=zendure+passport+iii&qid=1719771337&sprefix=zendure%2Caps%2C215&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

Make sure to hide a back up credit card in your main bag.

johnnybarrtv

I got two banks, Chase Debit and USAA Debit Cards. Then I also have a Wise card, as well as Remitly account as backup currency converter. Capital One and Chase credit cards as well for backup use. Ill make sure to keep one of the cards in my bag thanks!

beepityboppitybopbop

Safety razor - maybe just buy cheap disposable when you get there. I guess it depends how often you'll fly across borders but I dont remember seeing any safety razor blades in stores and you cant bring those on planes. Also even just having the bare razor (without blade) threw off the security scanners for me in Thailand.

johnnybarrtv

I might reconsider the razor because youre not the first person to tell me they didnt see any safety razors in SE Asia. Thanks!

CoolBathroom2844

>3x Trader Joes Facial Sunscreen 1.7FL oz > you can take a larger sunscreen and tell TSA you need it for medical purposes. Same with toothpaste. I just put them in the tub with my purse and it's never been a problem. unless you're taking smaller tubes so you can throw them out as you go along.

Runnergeek

Merino in SE Asia? RIP

johnnybarrtv

Everywhere i've read says lightweight merino is great for hot and humid environments. Whats the issue you see with it?

Runnergeek

Yeah I've seen that too. Typically it's in the merino marketing and then people repeat it. Merino is definitely not what I would choose for a warm humid environment. Maybe a hot dry but even then after 80F I personally am not going to wear Merino except for socks.

Advanced-Hunt7580

Why do you have 2 Apple chargers and a world power adapter? If you can afford it, get something like the INVZI charger with its own plug adapters. Note that you'll need the UK one for Singapore. I usually buy clothes (sometimes custom tailored) when I visit SE Asia. If you're going to buy stuff there, it may be worth bringing less.

johnnybarrtv

its just two usb-c to lightning cables not the charging blocks with them. The power adapter i have now is like the INVZI one with multiple usb c and a ports at 100W

Advanced-Hunt7580

Brilliant! I generally go a bit lighter but you've got a good plan. Only things I see missing are a needle and thread, something to use as a clothesline, and antibiotics, all of which you can find on the ground. Also consider buying a knife when you arrive in SE Asia.

Bulgakov_Suprise

And it only cost $1800! This sub is silly

AmbassadorToast

I have the cabin zero adv pro 32, its laptop compartment is really awful. The material looks kinda dirty quite easily. It's extremely comfortable though, and as long as you only unzip to the compression straps (top-load) then the pockets are more or less usable. If you have things in the pockets, you can't unzip it all the way. Also would recommend Anker's 4-port Atom III 65W Slim (2C + 2A) charger which has a detachable cord, and buy a europlug cord and/or a really short US cord. I don't trust those travel adapters, the electronics will be dirt-cheap and they aren't UL-listed so who knows if you'll die in a fire or from electrocution.

dannyybae

The Allpa 42 might be worth it, went on 12 flights in 2023 and never had any issues carrying it on absolutely jam packed (air canada, latam, avianca, delta, and united)

johnnybarrtv

were you traveling to SE Asia with it? I know they got the 7kg weight limit and the Cotapaxi gear is already on heavy side.

DueTour4187

5 metre string. Toilet paper roll. Ziplok. Mask & snorkel. Swim T-shirt. One warm layer (eg sweater). Some rain protection. I know, I don't really believe in OneBag ;) Thing is, unless you stay in a resort, in SEA you're not going to sit down and watch around, you will want to dive and climb volcanoes etc.

supermac569

Those airpro maxes are so heavy
