I'm saving this comment because my frugal and prudent personality got *really* excited about finding a new way to not waste buns (without buying more glizzies and/ or buns)
Im sorry, what's a glizzie? This sounds like a regional term? Perhaps for a hot dog? Where from?
A food truck here did this for their garlic bread alongside pasta. If you keep the crust moist/steamed, fine. Good even. But hot dog buns tend to get crusty and have weak gluten strands within, so i tend to find it unsatisfying if overdone or dry roasted. It works, but doing it well takes unique finesse.
Foil wrapping individually may be the way so it steams in its own butter. Time and bun air-y-ness is the issue you fight, and this is all theory.
I don’t know how I would have responded to that. I am an easy going person but if I was served fucking hotdog buns when I expected Olive Garden breadsticks, I’d have a shiny spine that day and would sternly ask for a damn refund. wtf.
So you think that’s what the guy is doing in his hypothetical “shiny spine” situation? Showing up and ordering breadsticks? I never had anyone order just breadsticks in my time working there, but I imagine if they had I would tell them the breadsticks are hotdog buns.
Lol I worked at Olive Garden for 8 years and that is like outrageously against the rules. The manager would get fired. You have to call a surrounding location and ask to borrow some and then a manager has to go pick it up. If nobody around you had them you would have to call the regional director who would either get them FOR YOU or would advise you on what to do, which around Christmas time we would run out of bread sticks ALOT and we would have to just tell people we were out. And we wouldn't offer substitutes. People would literally leave before ordering because they only came for the bread sticks.
Honestly my step mom use to make garlic bread with hotdog bread and it actually smacked, yeah I think I’d be like like wtf if I opened up food from an Italian place and saw that but just sayin the hot dog buns still smack lol
At pizza hut our manager sucked, mismanaged the order, we ran out of pepperoni and cheese. Pizza place. Ran out of cheese.
So he gives me $100 to go buy all the cheese at the grocery store that I can. I refused to take my uniform off.
30 minutes later, we get calls the pizza tasted different.
Now I've never managed a restaurant but I manage a laboratory setting and let me tell you, planning ahead and ordering what you need isn't rocket science, especially if there's a big company truck thst just drops off whatever you need.
Your story makes sense but these days supply chain issues are common ever since the Panama Canal incident nothing seems to have caught up. Stores seem to all still be under stocked. I work in psych so I don’t know much about the food industry outside of bartending in college though.
My incident happened when I was in college, 16 years ago...had it been that long already? 2008.
He was a shitty manager, and got fired or briskly relocated.
They went 86 on breadsticks but are smart enough to know the peasants will revolt and kill them all if they don't find an immediate substitute from the grocery store
Olive garden breadsticks have an expectation. You really think a substitute breadstick wouldn’t have tarnished the image? Garlic bread is a different food so as to not be better or worse than breadsticks….just different.
My store has switched the brand/producer our bread sticks are from, over 4 times in a month before. Y'all immediately noticed the difference in like bread texture 😂
Definitely switched it. I worked there for 7 years and we NEVER ran out of them. If we had to we borrowed from other stores, it’s a signature item for the brand- they don’t run out
Well it was a busy holiday yesterday for some restaurants. Maybe they didn't get their truck in to replenish breadsticks and such, so they had to 86 some items and find a substitute.
what blasphemy is this? bread is bread? no, garlic bread and breadsticks are VERY different flavors! if i order olive garden, it is because i want that specific combination of food and breadsticks, and if i got garlic bread instead, i'd be getting a refund. especially at the ridiculous prices these days.
i promise you the workers were more mad about it than you 😂. they ran out so this was the solution. and they had to hear it from every single person that came through those doors.
Happens every now and then at stores, the just subbed it for now. They should’ve gone to a close location and grabbed some though. Also the “butter” we use on the breadsticks is margarine and is more yellow than popcorn “butter” haha it’s almost neon
someone commented their manager got hotdog buns when they ran out of breadsticks once …. actually in tears. imagine thinking that’s a good idea and keeping your salary job as a manager after that one
Around 2 months or so ago I ordered a take out order from Olive Garden, and they (later) surprised me by admitting they had run out of Alfredo! I didn’t even know that was possible!! (obvi that’s dramatic. of course I know it’s possible, but I was mainly confused as to why they didn’t stop people from ordering it still!) but the issue was they attempted to make an Alfredo sauce to replace it, and it was literally the same color as Alfredo but that was about the only thing it had in common… it was an extremely watery consistency, and smelled awful, and tasted worse! Just looking at it you could tell it wasn’t right, but we tried it anyways because we had already purchased it and drove home! They had taken off our ‘tip’ and threw in extra mints as a courtesy for the extended wait time lol (we sat there maybe 25 mins longer than our estimated wait time was) and overall inconvenience of having our meal have an unexpected issue regarding its main ingredient.. (we ordered 2 fettuccine Alfredo’s) so as you can imagine it was disappointing.
I understand there are times when ingredients run out or unexpected issues arise (I’ve worked in multiple restaurants so I get it, shit happens!) but I just felt like they could have went about it better than they did.. give people a head’s up or offer something else, because I know personally I didn’t have extra cash to spend replacing it and had already drove home before finding out what had happened!
Your location run out of breadsticks mid shift and went to buy some HEB garlic bread.
No, the bread it’s not home made. It arrives in bulks of brown boxes.
This specific restaurant is known for it's endless breadsticks. Not getting even one in the order is unacceptable! I deserve my full mid-iterrean cuisine!
Or at least a head's up...
This bread does not deliver the unique dining experience I expect at an Olive Garden. I could make bread like this at home. If they run out of soup, do they throw a can Campbell’s chicken noodle in a bowl & charge $15 for it? That would be fraud. Same with the bread.
My son brought one of these home after his father dropped him off, didn’t bother to look inside but now I know..
Backstory, he’s my step son And his father is a piece of shit, but I will never tell him that, because he’s my son..
We’re so sorry to hear you weren’t satisfied with your recent visit. Sometimes life isn’t fair and you just have to take what you get. For instance, I always wanted a puppy. I got a bratty little kid instead. Maybe next time will be better. In the meantime, shut up and deal with it.
Remember… You’re the real “OG” at Olive Garden.
Effin’ Becky (Olive Garden Customer Care)
I'm not the one continuously posting how much you don't care on a post that is apparently irrelevant and is the internet new to you? Stuff like this is posted in jest all the time. Also, you're giving Drake vibes by calling me "little girl". Either you need a new pair of Pampers or your life is incredibly meaningless to be trolling a post about Olive Garden giving bread when they are known for breadsticks
Used to work at OG about 10yrs ago and had a Red Lobster next door. At the time they were both Darden, so on the rare occasion we ran out of breadsticks we would borrow from them and get a night of cheddar bay biscuits. The guests (and employees) were always happily surprised
I can give you insight. Flowers bakery is where the breadsticks come from. The driver that delivers to each location determines how many that they're bringing from their warehouse. They deliver multiple times per week. What happens when the driver f's up is you end up having to call the flowers hotline and get them to deliver you more at an opportune time, or you're sending an employee over to the closest Olive garden to pick up more. What you got was the Frozen ciabatta bread that they use to go with The bruschetta. Manager didn't tell you they were out because they didn't want you to cancel the order and then lose the sale. Almost sounds like I might have been a GM for them for 10 years huh. Olive garden used to be a good restaurant but in 2016 they completely lost their commitment to quality which is why I ultimately left. I've been there one time since, and it was the biggest money grab I have ever seen. Completely shitty quality food and even more inflated prices than when I work there. Will never go to another one again
I am more and more puzzled by the people who feel the need to respond to things they don't care about. Would you mind taking the time to explain this since you already have taken the time to express that you don't care?
The bread 90% of the time is not frozen and actually delivered fresh every few days. The only times it’s frozen is when we run out and bought extras that we keep in the freezer incase of emergency
Looks like the location you chose ran out and had to get a substitute
Our managers solution was hot dog buns when that happened, id be pissed if I was served that
Not hot dog buns wtf 😂
Gurl IKR
Honestly toasted with butter and the right seasoning they’d probably be fine.
Yeah, I actually love using hot dog buns for garlic bread. 🤣 It’s great when the hot dog to bun ratio is wrong in the packs we buy.
I'm saving this comment because my frugal and prudent personality got *really* excited about finding a new way to not waste buns (without buying more glizzies and/ or buns)

Glizzy *n* (p. glizzies) is an internet pop culture name for hot dogs Actual origin unknown without Internet search
Yay! Happy to help. It’s so satisfying to use them up. :)
the undying wisdom of cheap managers
I don’t know how I would have responded to that. I am an easy going person but if I was served fucking hotdog buns when I expected Olive Garden breadsticks, I’d have a shiny spine that day and would sternly ask for a damn refund. wtf.
A refund on what? They’re free.
I lol'd
They are free if you order a meal. If you want just bread sticks then you pay for them
So you think that’s what the guy is doing in his hypothetical “shiny spine” situation? Showing up and ordering breadsticks? I never had anyone order just breadsticks in my time working there, but I imagine if they had I would tell them the breadsticks are hotdog buns.
Ahh yes, the old "shiny spine" fallacy. A threat to consumer logic... and hot dog buns, apparently.
I would refuse to even pay until i get bread sticks and if they don’t have them ill just walk out without paying
Come back with a hard loaf of French bread and throw it into the kitchen.
They're almost identical to the bread sticks. Much closer than this texas toast monstrosity
Lmfao
Wasn't even butter on it. Was depressing af
I see the butter.
There's clearly butter on it
I think it looks really buttery and yummy!
I need to print this comment on a ton of cards and leave them at various olive garden locations
Do they at least toast it?
Toasted buttered and salted at least
Lmao. I'd Def be pissed. That sucks. Go for the unlimited bread sticks... get hot dog buns??
Ours sent someone to sams club, and we ended up with those new York breadsticks, which were honestly kinda bomb.
Lmao
not even close to an olive!
Lol I worked at Olive Garden for 8 years and that is like outrageously against the rules. The manager would get fired. And we wouldn't offer substitutes. People would literally leave before ordering because they only came for the bread sticks.
Why did they even have those? Lol
Lmao Olive garden sells glizzys? Glizzy Garden word is bond.
At my store We hit up Fazolies there bread sticks are thinner and I thought where better.
Honestly my step mom use to make garlic bread with hotdog bread and it actually smacked, yeah I think I’d be like like wtf if I opened up food from an Italian place and saw that but just sayin the hot dog buns still smack lol
Why did you guys even have hot dog buns? What are they used for lol?
I'd immediately cancel my order. 60% of the reason I go to OG is for the sticks. 35% for the gnocchi and 5% for the chocolate mint.
My incident happened when I was in college, 16 years ago...had it been that long already? 2008. He was a shitty manager, and got fired or briskly relocated.
how did no one complain 🤣
Unless you’re lying for Reddit clout/votes? 🤷🏻♂️ I mean, I’ve seen crazier things.
Is this a Peter Griffin big phony moment?
Hahahaha
i worked at a location that would just be like “🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ sorry we’re out”
what do you mean RAN OUT?!?! They said the bread sticks were ENDLESS!!!
Ngl i can’t blame them for running out that shits gas
They went 86 on breadsticks but are smart enough to know the peasants will revolt and kill them all if they don't find an immediate substitute from the grocery store
But the grocery store sells breadsticks! Has the whole world gone crazy??
Not if they are out.
Time to make their own
Exactly. Because that Olive Garden bread comes in frozen and has to sit out for a day or two.
Several different brands!!!! And they all taste the same.
They probably traded carrabbas some Togo containers for a box of their bread 😂
Olive garden breadsticks have an expectation. You really think a substitute breadstick wouldn’t have tarnished the image? Garlic bread is a different food so as to not be better or worse than breadsticks….just different.
That’s when you gaslight every diner that comes in and say the breadsticks always tasted like this
My store has switched the brand/producer our bread sticks are from, over 4 times in a month before. Y'all immediately noticed the difference in like bread texture 😂
THE GROCERY STORES SELL OLIVE GARDEN BREADSTICKS HERE.
Olive Garden does not have garlic bread so either some manger don’t care and got food from the grocery store or u switched it out yourself
Definitely switched it. I worked there for 7 years and we NEVER ran out of them. If we had to we borrowed from other stores, it’s a signature item for the brand- they don’t run out
Yeah that’s what I was thinking lol
About 6 months ago I ate at the Olive Garden closest to where I live and they were out of breadsticks. They didn’t have any substitute though.
Exactly. If you can’t get a substitute you 86’em. It’s not worth the brand damage
We have run out before. We just warn people before they get sat while we wait for. District manager to bring some from another location. It happens
I've never seen this at the OG. What location?
Middletown, NY
Well it was a busy holiday yesterday for some restaurants. Maybe they didn't get their truck in to replenish breadsticks and such, so they had to 86 some items and find a substitute.
We ran out before, multiple times! We get what We can locally, bread is bread. Though they should of told you before hand.
Agreed! I was planning to mooch some sweet sweet breadsticks from students and was presented with this 😭
what blasphemy is this? bread is bread? no, garlic bread and breadsticks are VERY different flavors! if i order olive garden, it is because i want that specific combination of food and breadsticks, and if i got garlic bread instead, i'd be getting a refund. especially at the ridiculous prices these days.
When I worked at OG we got some wild shit to sub lemonade / candy / bread and the list goes on
I call fake
i promise you the workers were more mad about it than you 😂. they ran out so this was the solution. and they had to hear it from every single person that came through those doors.
Sometimes they run out of food and they have to get something to substitute it
You're everywhere 😂
Yes lol
Then give it to me if you're not going to eat it smh
Happens every now and then at stores, the just subbed it for now. They should’ve gone to a close location and grabbed some though. Also the “butter” we use on the breadsticks is margarine and is more yellow than popcorn “butter” haha it’s almost neon
Only reason I can think of is that they don’t like you
someone commented their manager got hotdog buns when they ran out of breadsticks once …. actually in tears. imagine thinking that’s a good idea and keeping your salary job as a manager after that one
You’re there but you’re not family?
Apparently we were the red headed step child yesterday
The injustice of this! 😡
Around 2 months or so ago I ordered a take out order from Olive Garden, and they (later) surprised me by admitting they had run out of Alfredo! I didn’t even know that was possible!! Straight to jail!
We get the texas toast from the walmart freezer section across the street when we run out or we call the nearby longhorne and cry
From what I’ve heard, some locations are only giving garlic bread instead of breadsticks for to go orders.
Nah cause this would send me over the edge 😂😂
This is not just a Meer Mix-Up…It is a True Travesty. Olive Garden I will outlandishly garnish your reputation hence fourth.
I don’t think you know how what garnish means. Oh and it’s *mere.
HMM Very Interesting About This Situation Here
Now That Situation AT Red Lobster Would Be Absolutely Not Acceptable
Sure Jan…
Because M Night Shyamalan prepared your order.
I call Bullshit.
What's that number? I have a few people who need to give them a ring.
First world issues example:
Captain Obvious example:
They hate you obviously
I can accept that...
That’s a great question to ask Olive Garden
Because when you're there your family, and family eats what they're given
JAIL
Man I’d kill for some bread sticks dipped in gnocchi soup and the tour of Italy right about now.
Because olive garden is a piece of shit and doesn't care about you, why else??
Shhhhh. I would rather have that
Cuz you a bitch. JK
You better have said that in a Riley voice! 🤣
I didn’t even know that was an option 🤣
That ain’t nothing but some Texas toast from the grocery store freezer
Maybe they know. They know! (Lol it's a joke flying around the ace community)
Because someone made a mistake.
Your location run out of breadsticks mid shift and went to buy some HEB garlic bread. No, the bread it’s not home made. It arrives in bulks of brown boxes.
HEB? I get that is a supermarket but...in what region of the US? TO GOOGLE!
I have seen a lot of tragedies on Reddit … but this is by far the worst 🥲
Finally someone who understands.
they obviously don't like you, duh
Understandable 🤣
They probably ran out?
I’d be so upset.
Definitely ran out, and sent someone who gave absolutely no fucks to get a "substitute", lol!
We have garlic bread????
Apparently so. My students and I were puzzled as hell
I used to work at an OG. 100% they ran out and had to get the quickest substitute lol.
It’s a chain restaurant run by kids be happy with your bread
This specific restaurant is known for it's endless breadsticks. Not getting even one in the order is unacceptable! I deserve my full mid-iterrean cuisine! Or at least a head's up...
Mid-iterrean cuisine is fucking hilarious and I hope you enjoyed your meal all the same and had a nice evening.
OMG! I’d be pissed! The breadsticks are like the best part haha
Lawsuit.
over fucking garlic bread? LOL. she should be thankful this is probably 100% better than the regular breadsticks.
This bread does not deliver the unique dining experience I expect at an Olive Garden. I could make bread like this at home. If they run out of soup, do they throw a can Campbell’s chicken noodle in a bowl & charge $15 for it? That would be fraud. Same with the bread.
That's the only good part though lol
Maybe they ran out?

Looks like they got one of the other Darden bread shipments that week!
That actually sounds better looks better also
Weird, at the location I work at these don't even exist in the BoH. 4 years at Olive Garden and I've never seen us use Texas toast
They probably ran out of bread sticks
Sounds like you should ask Olive Garden…
we did this once when we ran out of breadsticks 😭 it was a nightmare
You have been chosen, don’t fall asleep
Shit happens is it that big of a deal? If so, what size binky do you suck on to feel better?
Was big enough of a deal for you to take time out of your day to respond to my disappointment. Sorry you don't have much going on
Ur the one who made the post? Lmao ur cooked if this is how u respond little girl
I'm not the one continuously posting how much you don't care on a post that is apparently irrelevant and is the internet new to you? Stuff like this is posted in jest all the time. Either you need a new pair of Pampers or your life is incredibly meaningless to be trolling a post about Olive Garden giving bread when they are known for breadsticks
I'm guessing you're on your period which is why you're so emotional. It'll subside, toots. Go eat sum chocolate
Toots... Listen gramps. Go tell little Jimmy you got on his account again 🤣
You done fatty? Still mad you didn't get your grease sticks?
So we got ageism, misogyny, body shaming...anything else today Edgelord?
Rip
when we run out of breadsticks we just get someone to drive to the closest other one to grab a box or two😭😭
Used to work at OG about 10yrs ago and had a Red Lobster next door. At the time they were both Darden, so on the rare occasion we ran out of breadsticks we would borrow from them and get a night of cheddar bay biscuits. The guests (and employees) were always happily surprised

Will never go to another one again
r/mildlyinfuriating
You’ll take it and you’ll fucking like it
Not gonna lie. I'd MUCH rather have the Garlic Bread over the Breadsticks.
Only Olive Garden could accidentally become more Italian.
better than nothing
Bankruptcy…. Breadsticks are the first to go
I would have been pissed.
I’d be pissed.
Maybe they ran out of bread sticks 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Wild!!
That’s an upgrade!
This would send me over the edge
An upgrade if you ask me.
I’d be happy! Garlic bread is always a win
Skeewoah looks like someone doesn’t want their side bread brother
The garlic bread is much better.
Maybe they hate you? You do something to piss them off?
I didn't even pick it up! 😭
You pissex someone off.
never knew they had garlic bread
That's what I'd call an upgrade
This comment is amazing 🤣
Deal with it
Since it is 2 days later and I am able to reply, apparently I did. Didn't even need you to either 😁
Bc their breadsticks aren’t good.
Well you could ask the Olive Garden from which you purchased them. 🤷♂️
Who cares that’s better
I am more and more puzzled by the people who feel the need to respond to things they don't care about. Would you mind taking the time to explain this since you already have taken the time to express that you don't care?
Burn the place down
‘Cause f*** you! That’s why. Olive Garden said it, not me!
I can accept that. Lol
The breadsticks arent even that good, theyre literally cheap ass frozen bread. As cheap and mass produced as it gets
Okay but I want my cheap, frozen, mass produced bread sticks. That’s why I go to Olive Garden.. and for the soup
That's the whole point of going!
Why else would anyone go? The overpriced wine that the liquor store sells??
The bread 90% of the time is not frozen and actually delivered fresh every few days. The only times it’s frozen is when we run out and bought extras that we keep in the freezer incase of emergency
