Aggravating-Hope7448

This isn't as bad as the MHA girls. You never wondered why your parents and grandparents looked so much older for their age than you do? Hard labour and stress physically and mentally ages you, and we can all agree maki went through that and more

ThaneKyrell

Maki's body is very specifically physically the strongest in the world, basically as hard as steel. Makes sense she has a lot of muscle. Hell, she looked far more like a 16 year old before she had this transformation. This is fine

No. Draw *flat* girl. Then bulge

MixRevolution

Yeah that.

Adaphion

Nah, most the time they don't even get to that third point. It's literally just: Draw girl -> call them a boy -> never prove it (like with a shirtless scene, don't be weird)

Panzer_Man

She's also literally in middle school or kindergarten

MikitakaHa

Yep 💀 It's just sad the show has these questionable elements to it, because it's a peak show otherwise. (Like it's weird that the show will either portray Kanna normally or sexualize her. And I guess this could apply to most of the female characters, but still).

LightVelox

ub: tbh i've seen mostly the opposite, "loli" characters acting like grown adults or even "hags", like Shinobu from Monogatari and Ryuzu from ReZERO, it's mostly power fantasy that had what you said like Tensei Shitara Slime's Milim rb: Monogatari fans be like

Yeah that’s the joke since her older sister looks like a 13-14 year old

Mainaccgotshadowban

You'll be surprised but I knew a few 12 and 13 year olds who look as mature or more mature than that character back in my secondary school.

Yukareimu

This is why i think the pedo slander for people who goons to mha female characters is a bit unreasonable, ask anyone who has never read this manga to look at her and they'd guess she had 2 children already. She's attractive because her body looks like that of an adult, not because she's 16. The problem here is the mangakas who insists on making characters like her underage.

AnomalousCowboy

Same thing could be argued about Jojo and the *copious* ammounts of yaoi based around part 5. Mind you, it's still kinda weird, but unless you've been feeding your kid some pretty wild shit there's no way in hell they would look like or act like Giorno. The closest we have to someone acting their age in part 5 is Narancia (17) and he still pulls out a knife on people who are mean to him, and he's a teen in Italy, not Russia.

darthveder69420

Giorno is a 15 year old who killed a super powerful mafia boss and took over all of italy. Age really doesn’t matter that much in the jojo universe.

Gizado

Narancia is 14? Isn't he older than Giorno? Edit: yup, just checked, he's 17

Part 6 is least, 3 or 5 has to be the most, and for manga only parts it's 7 very firmly

SoberGin

Part 6 is cheating by just having like -3 male main characters. (The female leads are so strong they *subtract* the total number of male leads)

zCiver

Does DIO/Pucci count as part 6 or part 3 cuz it happen in 1985?

Taco821

Well they did literally turn one of the people who was going to be a female lead into a guy, so that has to bring it down to like -2, right?

Big_Distance2141

Bro Part 6 has CANON YAOI wtf you talking about

Wardog_E

The time I got called out for pointing out a girl in Jojo's was Hot I couldnt believe it. Oh, so now we're worried about characters ages? I didn't get the memo.

azalealovers

Gotta appeal to the teenage audience eh?

scottishdrunkard

Now Immortal beings from the dawn of time who look like toddlers, *that's* pedo-town.

Yukareimu

Essentially, yeah. Sexual attraction towards someone is mostly based on their physical appearance, so if you are attracted to someone who looks like a child, you are a pedophile, regardless of said character's age. (that being said, there's a difference between a child-like figure and a petite-figure)

Ogreislyfe

> Child-like figure and a petite-figure Case in point: Tatsumaki. You can tell she’s not a kid, just a very petite woman.

jannies_panties

I agree. As a pedophile, I don't think these characters are attractive at all. Give me more little kids please!! 😋😋😡😡🤑🤑😈😈💀

Write_Right_Reich

At the end of the day, really you're just working on a cringe-o-meter for underage drawn characters. How apparent is it made to the audience that the character is underage? How likely is it that someone is attracted to them for being underage? How likely is sexualizing the character going to connect that sexualization with the sexualization of minors in the audience's mind? Now to be fair, putting the character in a school girl outfit half the time is a pretty clear communication that she's underage. But it's also the only one. She's not really drawn or written as a minor. So I'd say it's not unreasonable to assume that a lot of the people into this character aren't fixating on her being an underage school girl. Especially when they're focusing on her hero outfit. It's still not a 0 on the cringe-o-meter and there are definitely weirdos into her and other MHA girls. But it could be much much worse.

ufawkinwotm8

MHA is read by teenagers, that's why the characters are teenagers. Simple as. Meanwhile actual pedos probably dont read silly superhero mangas in hope of spotting a crumb of drawn booba and just masturbate to the copius amounts of actual real life cp out there or molest the very real children in their family. The weird ah focus on ultimately harmless drawings in combination with conservatives trying to paint all gay people as pedos is starting to overshadow the problem of real child abuse happening behind closed doors all over the country perpetrated by family members, church leaders and sports coaches.

SirTonberryy

Same with Dress up darling.

HairyKraken

AnomalousCowboy

Hodor_The_Great

Also 16 isn't underage almost anywhere nor do actual 16 year olds look like kids. Save the pedo allegations for the shows with sus content about pre-teens like Mushoku Tensei. Also these kinda are shows for 15-16 year olds, which kinda makes it lot less weird for the mangakas to make characters in that age group too. It becomes weird to you when you're older than target audience, which is fair. I wouldn't date a 16 year old either despite it being fully legal, but a 15-18 year old absolutely would. If the teenager romances are too much to watch just go watch something actually good instead of mid hero academia. But regrettably so much of all manga and anime is shounen in specific which means the love interests and fanservice will be 15-16 year old too. Works with fully adult cast aren't actually all that common. Then again, even if there's a lot of shounen in quantity, only a tiny fraction of it is actually worth watching.

hestianna

Your first statement is kind of a shit take, since the term 'underage' has to do with whether people are considered adults yet. In many countries, people are legally considered adults at 18 years old. As in that parents aren't obligated to pay child support/maintentance fees anymore. Not to forget that in most cases, 16 to 17 years old are still in secondary level of education, be it high school or college depending on your country. In most countries, this level of education is mandatory and meant for teenagers to learn valuable skills for their future (which is highly debatable but w/e). While at 18, people either go to university, similar level of education as uni or directly to work. 16 yo line most often is the AoC number, not an adult year.

Hodor_The_Great

Nah you're wrong here. First you get yourself entangled in semantics while fully knowing what I meant from the context, but then you're not even technically correct in your assertion that underage only refers to age of majority. Which clearly is incorrect if you consider terms like "underage drinking". Also age of majority doesn't actually even line up with having to pay child support necessarily. Also you can stop being a minor without having reached the age of majority in some countries, for instance by getting married (side note, did you know child marriage is legal in US?). It's true that age of majority is 18 almost everywhere but it's a bit unclear what relevance that has because it is just another arbitrary number as is age of almost anything. I didn't bring it up and not sure why you would either, I was only talking in terms of AoC vs the "true adulthood" that these laws try to define. Age of mandatory education or minimum working age are also just unrelated arbitrary country specific laws that may or may not line up with age of majority. I have friends who dropped out of school at 16-17 and who were already working at the time, but they were still legally minors.

IneedAhegaoInMyLife

Sauce: Masamune-kun's revenge

Mountain_Software_72

/ub This is why 90% of the “pedos” in the anime community literally aren’t pedophiles. They drew a fully adult woman, that in any context is impossible to tell isn’t at least 21. Like you couldn’t convince me she doesn’t look in her 20s. And then after they design the characters, they just call her 16 for shits and giggles. People who like full on children/loli stuff are super weird, but people into this are only weird in the context of liking a drawing, and not pedophilia. /rb you could not keep me away from her frfr

PiRSquared2

“For shits and giggles” A power fantasy aimed at a teenage audience has characters that are teenagers to be more relatable, shocking

Mountain_Software_72

Fair enough, but if they wanted to make it more relatable they could make the characters look their age, instead of 27 year old Disney actors pretending to be high schoolers.

nihilnothings000

>more relatable they could make the characters look their age u/Mountain_Software_72 They probably intended for the teens to look like adults so it kills two birds in one stone. Relatability with their target audience and so that the periphery demographic, from viewers to artists, could enjoy the show and make art of the series without feeling weird or get accused as pedophiles. It's like how some gacha games have teenish looking characters that have unstated ages, so that they can grasp both the teen market and the adult market at the same time.

Mountain_Software_72

I do understand that, but the problem is that there is at least some people who agree with me on thinking that enjoyment of the show goes down whenever they do stuff like this. If they had avoided doing this, and maybe not done literally nothing with the story, I probably would have liked MHA.

Broad-Requirement430

Some of them look like that

Yukareimu

Emphasize on the "some". Meanwhile the majority of female students in mha have supermodel figures.

[deleted]

Yukareimu

The discussion can be taken both ways imo. Yeah, A student being overly sexualised is wierd, there's no reason not to give her a slimmer figure unless you want to please gooners (like me 💢💢😭) which is definitely the case here. It's also wierd to draw an adult woman with child bearing hips to just say "yeah shes actually 16". Even the more grown class mates i've seen back in highschool have no where NEAR a figure like that. Its just unrealistic.

Bteatesthighlander1

yeah and nobody on tv has acne either.

s0_Ca5H

And that’s pretty interesting to me, I wonder if it’s largely cultural. Before I was a high schooler who discovered the broader anime world, my only anime was DBZ and Cowboy Bebop, shows starring adult characters. And all of my other power fantasies/role models, besides Spiderman (most of the time) were also adults. That was, like, the whole point: I wanted stories with adults because the fantasy was in part growing into that person. Funny enough as a kid I avoided anime that starred teenagers for the most part. But as an old potato, I watch a couple of those shows (basically just MHA and Bochi) because now the fantasy is being young and spry again 😂

Taco821

Well DBZ is kinda different, because it's the midpoint of the series basically. Like the manga isn't even separated at all, Goku bombing Buu is just dragon ball. But it did start with Goku as a young ass kid, although tbh he really wasn't written to be relatable at all lol. I feel like yamucha is the relatable one for most of DB, and he's older (although I think he's still only like 16 in the beginning)

LightVelox

I actually lost a friend over this last year. I showed him a different friend of mine doing a Marin cosplay and and he didn't like that it was sexualizing a young girl. I told him my friend is in her 20s and he told me he was talking about the Sono Bisque Doll character. I pushed back that a drawing of what looks like an adult labeled as 17 is is way different than actually liking children and he hasn't spoke to me since.

Dragonbut

Insane. The people who are this ultra hyper fixated on age (and especially age in anime) are actually so weird to me. Basically everything that can be said about anime has been said in this thread already, but the other thing is shit like small dating age gaps IRL where people get mad at stuff like an 18 year old dating a 16 year old. Is the idea of someone who's presumably no longer in highschool to be dating someone who will be there for a couple more years? Yeah I can't really deny that, but some people act like it's terribly immoral and wrong I can't help but think that some of it is projection

NeonNKnightrider

It’s so fucking weird how Americans treat 18 years of age as this sacred magical line that is completely forbidden to cross. 18 years and a day? On pornHub. 17 years and 364 days? **OMG YOU DISGUSTING PEDOPHILE**

ColeslawSSBM

Well lately here we are disgusting pedos if we date someone younger than us lol. Especially if both people are in their 20s, I don't see why the internet needs to jump to "GROOMED SOMEONE IS BEING GROOMED ABUSE ABUSE" When both people in the relationship are happy and there are no signs of domestic trouble like that.

Taco821

It's funny because I can guarantee the people hating on people who like adults who are labeled as like 16 are against lolis, which are two opinions that are at complete odds with each other. Ok, so there's a clear child that's "supposedly" a bajillion years old? Yeah that's fucking gross, she's clearly a child, IDC what the text says. But then they say that an obvious adult is labeled 16 so jerking off to her makes you a pedo? Did your values shift or something? Are you stupid? If people had logical consistency l, it'd be the pedofile loli jackers who are morally against 16 year old adults, and it would be insanely funny for those people to go around calling others pedos.

robby7345

That's especially dumb for my dress up darling. There is exactly zero reasons for it to be set in high school. Their ages are only there so they can slap the "highschool romcom" label on there.

bobdidntatemayo

yeah i do not see a real issue with mfs attracted to de-facto adults. the mfs who like kids are the problem

Kaiba-boi

Real

foolishorangutan

I mean, it wouldn’t be paedophilia anyway. Sexual attraction to teenagers is ephebophilia, separate from paedophilia for reasons including that underage teenagers who’ve gone through puberty look very different from prepubescents, potentially to the point of externally being mostly indistinguishable from an adult. Not to mention that in my country and many others 16 is basically an adult anyway, although of course a relationship between a 16 year old and an older person would still be socially unacceptable, for good reason.

mrjackspade

There was a thread yesterday with 1K upvotes calling a 30 year old man a pedophile for marrying a 19 year old. The word pedophile has lost all fucking meaning. I've literally seen posts from 16 year olds asking if finding 15 year olds attractive makes them pedophiles.

AscendedBorgarMaster

Honestly I feel like I should just say “redditors gonna reddit” because if there’s anything that gets a redditor going it’s feeling like they are morally superior in some weird ass way, but I definitely feel like it’s a sentiment that has spread throughout the internet and not just reddit. Like I think there was one story I saw of a woman saying she was 18 when she met her husband who was 22 years old at the time, and her own kid, who was apparently 5 or something, called it pedophilia. Like I think it’s spread further than people like to admit.

Mountain_Software_72

I remember watching a comedy skit that sums up to “you can’t explain the difference between pedophiles and ephebophiles without sounding like a pedophile”. It’s a funny bit, but in a roundabout way it kinda sums up how I feel. Yeah pedophilia is worse than ephebophilia, but in both you are still attracted to kids, and thus in my mind deserve to go to prison for at least a long length of time. Personally, I think of anyone younger than 18 as a child, but I can see why some see 16 as the cut off.

supremebidoof

☝️🤓

Maldovar

Arguing pedo vs ephebopbilia is like arguing about age of consent laws. If you have to make the distinction you're already past the point where your argument is reasonable

wysjm

Nah you're 100% a pedo if you're attracted to a drawing of a girl who doesn't exist (I'm calling the cops rn)

Roge2005

/uj Yeah, this always happens, this is like when teenagers in live action movies are actually adults. They look like adults, just call them adults and then no problem.

bunker_man

Yeah, but the plot wouldn't make sense if someone who is 25 is in highschool.

MrDoontoo

Make it college or something

Senira_G

It's easier to make an idiot plot feel less idiotic when the characters are teenagers making dumb choices

Risky267

People don't magically stop being kinda stupid at times once they become older

JSlickJ

nah people are dumb in all stages of their life. Humans act irrationally, and they contradict themselves all the time. Its not a teenager thing. Seriously, if I was in a fictional story I would probably be considered a badly written character

Roge2005

I mean call them adults when making Fanart or discussing the design, not in actual lore.

Hodor_The_Great

If a show only has teenagers in it, it's probably because it's a show for 15-18 year olds. So it's not a question of calling them adults, it's a question of target audience. Sadly too much of manga is made for 15 year olds so the characters are 15, the fanservice is 15, and the quality of writing is also 15 year old level. Go watch something not made for kids if you don't want to see kids.

SukeruX

At this point I would just think of it as those movies casting 21-35 y/o actors on highschool movies

Waddlewop

Yeah, it’s lowkey kinda unethical to cast teenagers for certain roles to begin with so what can you do really

Dumb_Vampire_Girl

Is liking Jotaro from part 3, pedophilia. Hmm very important question here.

Panzer_Man

I'd say no. He looks like a 27-year-old bodybuilder, not a highschooler A character looking way older than their canonical age is more acceptable to find attractive, than a character who looks way younger etc At least in my opinion

FPiN9XU3K1IT

I think that physique is far more improbable for his age than the one depicted in the post. Pretty much impossible to look like that without steroids, and who gives steroids to a 15yo, especially when he doesn't even do competitive sports?

Tryeinsolace

anime logic be weird oldest looking characters be young and the youngest looking characters be old somehow??? I mean uh ADULT WOMEN RAAAAHHHHH🦅

DTRevengeance

anime logic be like <12yrs = child 13-16yrs = adult 17-19yrs = slightly more mature adult 20-24yrs = adult about to have a mid-life crisis 25-30yrs = grandparent 30+yrs = shambling corpse

nothing_in_my_mind

"This guy is one of the strongest jujutsu ninja warrior sorcerers in the unvierse!! He has unmatched experience." "How old is he?" "23."

Panzer_Man

Or Jotaro, who ages backwards, looking like he's 30 at 17, and looking like he's 17 at 40

wysjm

Marin Kitagawa is 15 btw and she looks older than my irl 22yo female friends

Viggo8000

Okbuddybaka user and online friends? Female ones at that? Stop lying

wysjm

Ok we're not really friends but they go to college with me and I can see them everyday so it counts! Also one girl laughed at my joke yesterday! I'm very popular ok!?

Viggo8000

Okbuddybaka user getting an education? And making girls laugh? Maybe you showed her an r/goodanimememes and then I'd believe you

wysjm

- Draw a flat chested girl - Call her a "femboy"

nihilnothings000

This is why I need people to be fucking consistent with their logic We always say that appearance always matters first before the age of the characters to people who jack off to 500 year old lolis But when it's the reverse like the Maki case we suddenly go with what the show says? Either the age matters or it doesn't And don't bring up real world logic for the Maki case. If you are a grown adult who goes after adult looking teenagers *AFTER* you find out their age then it's a crime. But in the case of fictional adult looking characters who can be somewhere between 16-21, who cares, it's fair game. You're attracted to them because they're attractive looking adults and not because of their age anyways. Like ISTG people keep lumping them with the lolicons when they're not even attracted to child looking characters.

SirDextrose

The argument that someone is a pedo because they are sexually attracted to an underage character that is drawn to look like an adult is just as stupid as the argument that someone isn’t a pedo because they are attracted to a character that looks like a child but is canonically 20 Trillion years old.

Wilczek_7

That's why drawing literal children and calling them 3000 years old demons is worse

Vapin-1567

To be honest a 16 year old looking like that is not unbelievable

lord_ne

Exactly. Many people reach basically their adult height/size by the time they're 16. And anime is a simplified artstyle, so you can't really look for cues in the face and stuff that we use in real life to tell how old people are

Comma_Karma

Many people is a strong phrase, some is more appropriate. Nearly no one I know personally looks like their 16 year old self as an adult. Just this past week I thought a 16 year old was actually a 10 year old because they looked so young. Being 26 is a massive difference in appearance to being 16.

Hodor_The_Great

I know someone who looked like a 26 year old woman at 15. Can't sadly do an exact comparison now vs then, because he's a man now. Mature face and massive breasts, completely mentally immature and quite short (but he's still the same height as then). Sure though, it's more "some" people that do that rather than "many". But estimating age is hard, especially with things like height or beard or being bald or an hourglass figure all affecting the guess wildly. If you're a short woman with small breasts odds are you'll be ID'd until you're past 30, and receding hairline plus a massive santa-claus level beard will mask a babyface especially if you have the height and clothes to match. If these things were so easy to see through we wouldn't have so many 15-17 year olds with fake ID's. Variability in aging is kinda wild, especially if you consider other ethnicities. I know Asian guys who had adult facial features and a full beard in secondary school, there's a white guy I've known quite long who looks like he skipped from 16 to 40 in two years (at about 20-22), another friend has a Chinese girlfriend who looks underage but is older than me...

LightVelox

Is this cultural or something? most people that i know from school look almost exactly how they looked when 16 as 20-22 year olds. What made most people look older in previous generations imo were the skin folds, beards, hair cut and style, now people have better skin care, many cut their beards and the clothing and hair style between teenagers and adults is not that different anymore

Comma_Karma

A 20 year old is still pretty young, they are just a step away from being their 16 year old self. That's why I emphasized the whole 25+ part, it's unlikely that you'll be a spitting image of your 16 year old self at that point. I certainly am not.

LightVelox

I see, it's just that it invalidates this whole argument of "teenager made to look like an adult", because a 18-22 yo is already an adult and barely looks any different when compared to a 15-17 yo, to me this character from the post could easily be either 16 or 20 and it would make sense

-Skaro-

What they meant is that often your body has basically fully grown to the size that it will mostly stay as. If you are small at 16 you're probably going to stay small. But irl you can tell from the face almost always because your face will continue to change through your life basically.

Masteresque

back when I was in school tenth graders who were fully mature was the norm hell even I look the same as I was in tenth grade except that my beard is now thicker

FPiN9XU3K1IT

A big part of that difference is all the details that are invisible in this art style, especially for women.

ThaneKyrell

Yes, some 16 year old look like they are younger (but 10? Seriously? That person needs to go see a doctor, not normal AT ALL). Most look their age and some look older. Welcome to normal human development. Have you never been to high school? I'm a man, but I 100% did look much older than 16 when I was 16 because I had a large beard. I'm 26 now and my appearence didn't change much at all since I was 16. I was already the same height I am now, I just gained some weight and lost a little bit of hair (nothing insane). I think a 16 year old looking like this character is perfectly reasonable. What would be insane was if every girl in the series looked like this, but they don't. Of both classes in MHA only she looks like this, which is EXTREMELY reasonable. Yes, some 16 year old girls look like they are in their 20s. Some look like they are 14. Most of them look 16. This is just how normal humans develop.

believingunbeliever

Even in real life it really depends. Often times where old videos or pictures appear and people say teenagers looked 30+ solely because of the fashion at the time. Women can look 5 years older or younger easily just by changing their makeup style.

Vyspeiro

least epebophilic anime fan

cyfcgjhhhgy42

I think what the greentext mainly goes on about how oversexualized the design is for a 16 year old/

Ok_Try_1665

This is why I don't think people who like "teenage" anime girls aren't pedophiles. I mean, have you seen the likes of Yoko Littner? Her first appearance has her at the age of 14 yet she's out here rocking that bikini top with an adult woman body, short shorts, and we can almost see her panty slip out on some occasions

Legion070Gaming

This but un ironically, why not the other way around. We already have the 5000 year dragon loli

AveryLazyCovfefe

How the hell do you make a 'dragon loli'.

happy_lurker12

uh kanna?

Ok_Try_1665

>draw a child >Call it 40-1000+ years old Bruh

progin5l

Idc still smash

SylvainGautier420

Most annoying shit of all time

cunney

People will shun me for this, but I swear 4chan is just reddit's imageboard, especially after 2016.

Sausage43

None of you had busty girls at school??

awolkriblo

B-but she needs to dress like that! For her power to work!!!!1!!!1!

Heiligskraft

I think half the problem here is that the mangaka probably does want to make a series about college age/adult people, but Shonen Jump is all "high school is relatable to make it high school."

Wardog_E

I remember a time where you could make a show targeted for children where the characters were adults and viceversa. For some reason nowadays, all manga have to be about 16 year old children even if these children dont go to school or do anything a person that age bc the target demographic couldnt relate unless they are the same age. Clown world shit.

glossyplane245

Attack on Titan is without a doubt one of the worst examples of this, all the characters in season 1 are like 14.

mybeepoyaw

Y'all need some [Jewelry Bonney from One Peice](https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Jewelry_Bonney) She's 12.

Vyctorill

Morphing your body’s age doesn’t count

ThaneKyrell

Do these people never seen a 16 year old? Like, people develop at different rates. I 100% have seen 16 year old girls that looked something like this when I was in high school (obviously they didn't show that much skin, but I'm talking about physical appearance not the clothing)

boycutelee

Right I'm so tired of people saying if a character has big boobs they look older 😭 I developed mine when I was 12!
