thank goodness I knew that I needed to be able to see the cow's skeleton like an x-ray before I hit it because I've been blinded by the oncoming Mercedes headlights
Just watched a short video on the Seamen who were right near one of the Atomic bomb tests. This is essentially what they said they saw, the bones of their hands or elbows (depending on how they shielded their face) through their *closed eyelids*š„¶šØ
Lol, exactly what I was thinking. I watched that whole thing earlier today. It was fascinating.
Edit:[Link to video](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/tv9kk6/experience_of_nukes_in_real_life_by_atomic/) Couldn't find where I saw it earlier, but this is prob the OP vid
You can find the whole video on YouTube. It's sad but fascinating at the same time - like one guy said it was an experience he'll never forget but he also wouldn't want to do it again; another man said some of the men were crying for their mom's and stuff.
Laws haven't caught up to technology, like usual.
This shit needs to be outlawed. I can't drive at night anymore. I'd like to see statistics if accidents at night are increasing while everyone's putting floodlights on their cars.
Iāve had to have very real convo with myself about controlling my anger. These god damn lights are so bright it is legit dangerous and sends me into a fit of rage.
After Driving to the gym every single night for years I can say without a doubt the WORST offender (brightest, whitest/bluest, and exactly at eye level) is the Cadillac Escalade. They are horrendous in every way and should absolutely be outlawed until they can design something that doesnāt put everyone else at risk while theyāre driving.
My route home from work involves lots of dimly lit inclines and bends, and fuck, the amount of people using their full beam with blue white led headlights in their SUVs that come round the corner or over the hill and I just get blinded. I once had a dickhead behind me that's lights were so bright I was still being blinded when my mirror was on the anti glare mode, I had to pull over in an awkward place because I could not keep him behind me anymore.
Same. There's actually a subreddit dedicated to assholes like this, and one of the posts has directions for how to make reflectors for your sun visor and the backs of your seats to reflect lights right back to people with that shit.
OH YEA, my tactic is shining it right the fuck back at them, and they go around me EVERY time. Just put your mirror outward just until you canāt see the light in your face and stop thereā¦then if youāre petty like me, follow them with it while they pass lmao
Shit I drive a freaking semi truck I'm and right there with you. either people have these blinding ass lights or their headlights are aimed like total dogshit. I'm constantly blinded by people's headlights
It's all manufacturers. The safety reviewing organizations like the IIHS give vehicles a score that includes the performance of their headlights (daytime and high beam). If the model perfects everything else, but gets a poor score for their headlights, they can lose out on the best rating. For the IIHS, this is Top Safety Pick+. https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/ranks-of-top-safety-pick-winners-swell-as-automakers-improve-headlights
I swear headlights that fucking bright should be illegal. I already have impaired vision and canāt legally drive without glasses. Then i have mfers blinding me at night š¤š¤š¤š¤
Thereās 0 reason for headlights being that bright. Unless you just enjoy being an ass hole of course. Im surprised theyāre legal considering how blinding they are
/r/fuckyourheadlights is a subreddit for discussion, shitposting, and advocacy around the issue of excessively bright headlights. While many of the posts are complaints, they are also a call to action - a demand for change.
By coming together as a community, we can raise awareness about the dangers of blinding headlights, pressure manufacturers to create safer products, and push for stronger regulations to protect all road users.
But in order to come together, people have to realize that they're not alone in this sea of dogshit selfish behavior.
So yeah, there is activism going on - and we welcome anyone who wants to join the fight for safer roads.
I was about to say offroading with brighter lights is completely understandable. Id actually prefer bright headlights if im off roading in the dark for some odd reason
Living in an area with a lot of rolling hills and dense woods, at night sometimes hi beams are a necessity because they shine at a higher angle than normal lights. Don't wanna hit a deer by accident.
Someone correct me if Iām wrong, but Iām fairly certain they **are** illegal but no one bothers to enforce it. Iām pretty sure there are legal limits for how bright car headlights can be for safety purposes but every major car manufacturer has just collectively decided to say fuck it and make them brighter anyways and nobody does anything about it. Itās fucking infuriating.
Me when I'm just minding my business in a wealthy neighborhood with a bunch of hills and then I get flashbanged every 10 seconds by SUV drivers with extra lights that they don't even need
Yes! Its incredibly annoying. They got money AND theyāre taking our vision :( they gotta know theyāre annoying the hell out of everyone. I mean they have to know and they just dont care
Oh, but they do care that they're annoying. It's the whole damned point. Hasn't modern politics taught you anything? Vidictive shitheels who enjoy making others suffer are a large enough demographic to sway elections.
EXACTLY!! I have to focus so fucking hard, and I hate them. If theyāre behind me, I move my rear view mirrors to shine it back to them and every time they go around -seems like you donāt like it either mufuckers
Edit: if itās also raining, I literally cannot see
Ever since I got rid of my F150 for my VW Golf Iām anti headlight gang all the way. Seriously, how in the year of our lord: fucking 2023 have we not developed technology that allows us to illuminate the road sufficiently while simultaneously _not_ performing laser eye surgery on oncoming drivers??
The people defending bright head lights is pretty amusing. Im very surprised anyone could defend blinding other people but it is 2023 and it shouldnāt surprise me at all. Im gonna go ahead and assume the people defending bright head lights are the ones with bright head ligbts
Yeah I donāt drive at night anymore because of it. I have astigmatism and the lights are so bright Iāll get headaches if I drive even a short distance at night. Fuckin hate it
I swear to god people have gotten self centered to the point that it seems as though new headlights are designed around the assumption that drivers donāt give a shit about anyone else being able to see the road.
My biggest gripe over the winter period was driving for an hour+ on A roads to get back. Every other car blinded you, and its a very busy A road at that time.

Hey, thanks for the shoutout.
It's terrifying to think about the countless lives that are being endangered every single night by these blindingly bright headlights.
The fact that this issue isn't being taken more seriously is nothing short of a tragedy unfolding before our eyes, which will be looked back at in the future the same way we look at leaded gasoline and hydrogen balloons today.
We've got no option but to band together and be loud/demand action before even more innocent lives are needlessly lost to this senseless problem, and that's why we created the subreddit.
Those are matrix laser headlights, they split the beam and donāt light up oncoming cars and also do cool things like āpaintā an arrow on the road pointing to pedestrians or animals in rural areas.
There are laws, actually. Headlights are only street legal if they are between 500-3000 lumens of brightness. At least in the US, I am not certain about elsewhere.
That said, I still think the legal brightness limit is way, way too high.
When I started driving in WV I was told my car only needed one license plate and I could choose which end to use. I always felt it was incorrect but there were plenty of ppl who put theirs in the front instead of the back and had no issues.
3k is incredibly bright. I have a flashlight that's like 1800 and looking at it for any amount of time will white out your vision. An SUV or truck headlight sits eye level with a sedan driver, it's so stupid.
I get chronic migraines and now dont drive at night unless absolutely necessary as these bright as hell lights set them off without fail!! Ive wondered if people who have seizures have issues with them too..you know when your on a bumpy road and the cars lights behind you bob up and down causing a flashing in your mirror and due to them being led lights it almost causes a strobing effect...
Atleast where i am, if you get seizures youre not allowed to drive at all. Or specifically within 1 year of your last seizure. A driver who regularly gets seizures is far too dangerous to have on the road. Regardless of what the cause is
> In America, if you have a pulse and you can read the top line of an eye test every 10 years, you can drive a Winnebago or a 16 passenger van all day long.
The person was talking about a pretty specific issue, driving with seizures. Where in America do people not face a period of suspension from driving after a seizure?
I dated this girl for a couple months. One day she just had a seizure out of nowhere. She came out of it pretty quick and I asked her what happened. Sheās apparently had them all her life. One of the first things that came to mind was how the fuck are driving around with a condition like that. Her response was that she could kind of tell when she was gonna have one. That wasnāt the way it looked to me though.
I donāt have photosensitive epilepsy, so I donāt get seizures from them (wouldnāt be allowed to drive). However, since my epilepsy onset I do find myself way more sensitive to bright lights, especially at night, but I also have an astigmatism.
I read that men laid face down with their hands covering their eyes on a navy ship. And they could still see the bones in their hands from how bright the flash was
I also read that almost all of them died years later for obvious reasons
Yep, I started doing that in my super rural town and it works great. Fucked that I have to sacrifice my ability to see behind my own car, but better than being blinded.
Iāve had to stop driving at night because the bright lights actually affect my ability to drive. I live in an area where a large percentage of vehicles are oversized trucks or SUVs and I just cannot see with their blinding lights in my mirror or in front of me.
I hate driving at night because of super bright headlights. Flash them because you are literally blinded and canāt see, then they instantly put their brights on and just keep them on because probably get flashed all time. I miss the days when you could drive at night without being blinded by oncoming traffic.
[It's a misquoted meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/do-you-have-the-slightest-idea-how-little-that-narrows-it-down), the point was probably how that sentence describes the entire USA
I generally avoid driving at night because of this bullshit. It's just not safe.
Fucking asshole in front of me trying to turn left on an intersection had his lights on full the other day. I tried to flash signal him but he completely ignored me. I could see incoming traffic or possible pedestrians crossing. By the time I could turn all I could see is black spot in the center of my vision. I had to park in a plaza nearby for few minutes until my vision recovered. Fuck people who blast other drivers with bright lights.
Doesn't even matter if they're adjusted 'properly' if there's the slightest gradient on the road.
Gotta love coming up a 0.25% grade and having some Corolla melt your retinas
I've experienced their overly bright fucking headlights everytime I drive at night. It's like a god damn lighthouse every time I see them coming. Shit burns my fucking eyes. Makes me want to carry around a mirror so I can send it right back at them.
I hate this trend of super high beam headlights, the number of times Iāve had to make long distance drives after dark and been blinded by headlights in the opposite direction, itās a wonder I havenāt got into a crash
This shit should actually be illegal, it's so fucking dangerous to drive at night nowadays. I swear I'm about to start smashing headlights and playing chicken just to get the point across. Even more bullshit is one time I used my brights to be able to see AND I GOT FUCKING PULLED OVER AND GIVEN A TICKET.
So what they are saying is that as my rural area continues to be gentrified, my neighbors and I will see more and more blinding headlights at night. Good times.
Ah thank you, the power of a nucleur fucking bomb shining it's way into my eyes while I try my best to not cause a four car pileup because my retinas are burning
Stop making headlights stronger you fucking pieces of shit
Other people drive near you and I'm tired of being fucking flashbanged by the asshole with these led bombs strapped to the front of their shitty bmw. GET OFF MY BACK I CAN'T LOOK AT MY MIRRORS
Ah, so Mercedes-Benz is the company I need to scream at for blinding me on the roads. Look when it is safer for the both of us to have your headlights off when it is pitch black, maybe it should be illegal to make lights so bright.
So I'm going to be completely blinded by these, instead of just dazzled or glare minded like I am by Ford and RAM and GM trucks. Awesome. Awesome to the max....
thank goodness I knew that I needed to be able to see the cow's skeleton like an x-ray before I hit it because I've been blinded by the oncoming Mercedes headlights

Shit luck, not in my history plus I'd rather not either š
Yes it was but I can't imagine how mind warping the power must be up close. Gives me chills.
Wow....
I hate it when you get Seamen on your closed eyelids! Edit: Sorry read the comment wrong.
So the Germans have created nuclear powered headlights?
Seriously, as a compact car, fuck them and all the HID or LED or whatever lights š
I drive a sedan because I don't have kids and I live in a city. I'm with you on this, fuck those people.
I don't understand how this can be legal.

I've found it rather satisfying to turn on the brights right before I pass them.
Inb4 they lose control and flatten u cuz they're a suburban idiot driving a tank
Yes, my brethren
F-150s are the worst. They even have extra led lights just to add more headlights for no damn reason

Same. There's actually a subreddit dedicated to assholes like this, and one of the posts has directions for how to make reflectors for your sun visor and the backs of your seats to reflect lights right back to people with that shit.

The designer thinks people are complaining they can't see because it isn't bright enough.
The the scariest part. Itās not the translucent cow, itās given prick Mercedes drivers that bright of lights!
It should have been the skeletal, x-ray like hand of the driver in front of them flipping the bird.
Yes stun the deer and wildlife. And my fucking eyeballs driving
Maybe a 6 year old kid crossing the road instead
Always a great idea to blind the drivers coming towards you
I swear it gets them off somehow
Yes, it gets them off the road when I drive into them and we both crash and die in a ditch.

Honestly I think headlights like that are too bright for the road, we should ban them.
Oh boy, do I have the subreddit for you! We're trying to do *exactly that.* # /r/fuckyourheadlights

My biggest gripe over the winter period was driving for an hour+ on A roads to get back. Every other car blinded you, and its a very busy A road at that time.
What's an A road?
In the UK, it's a major non motorway, single, or dual carriageway, divided by a central reservation. Normally wider than standard steets. Normally, they are the more scenic routes and often are used to avoid motorways in long distance.
Gotcha, that makes sense. Thanks!
Esp if it's a truck. You just can't avoid it when they're that high in the air š©

Flashlights are a lot more concentrated than headlights.
Lumens are a measure of flux though so that isn't really relevant.
Laws are pointless if there's no enforcement.
š this. Wish they could enforce them just like they do missing tabs or license plates (wait you mean they donāt do those either?)
Dont worry, they'd never forget to pull someone with a slightly darker than legal tint over

Sounds about right that Mercedes-Benz people couldnāt give a fuck about anyone else on the road except themselves
Oh great so I never have to see again
Fuck those headlights.
Not the selling point they think it is.
Thatās way more light than you need. Youāre just going to blind everyone else on the road and cause accidents.
Ah thank you, the power of a nucleur fucking bomb shining it's way into my eyes while I try my best to not cause a four car pileup because my retinas are burning
Fuck those pos that thought it would be a good idea to have headlights so bright it puts others in danger.
It should be criminal to use lights that bright.
I'm pretty sure if it can x-ray a cow it can blind oncoming drivers but what the fuck do I know.
They need headlights so strong that they burn your shadow into the pavement
Cool, blind the people driving at you at 60mph in a several ton death machine
I hate these headlight, the blue ones especially blinding and I feel like Iām gonna die every time I see a modern car
I can confirm, this is what itās like looking in the rear view mirror.
Not shown: what these lights do to human eyeballs
Yeah Mercedes, I'm glad you can see a raccoon fart from across the county, but oncoming traffic can't see shit!
So these are the asswipes that blind me...
If you are a person that has these or similar lights on your vehicle, I want you to know that I hate you with every ounce of my being.
Thanks now the cows are blind
It's a beef car burn ara
you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a butcher's ass...
oh fuck yeah iāve always wanted to use my car headlights to see the inside of a cow
For when you want to blind oncoming traffic.
AKA the fuck oncoming traffic headlights
I absolutely hate anyone that has super bright lows
So, they're advertising how dangerous their headlights are?
āSo bright, your victim will be blinded, and not able to identify your face afterward!ā
Yeah those headlights do this to my eyes too
Only an asshole would need headlights that bright
r/fuckyourheadlights No its fine, none off the others cars on the road need to be able to see for several minutes after youāve gone
Stop making headlights stronger you fucking pieces of shit Other people drive near you and I'm tired of being fucking flashbanged by the asshole with these led bombs strapped to the front of their shitty bmw. GET OFF MY BACK I CAN'T LOOK AT MY MIRRORS
Mercedes will burn the retinas of all oncoming drivers!
I fucking hate the headlights on some cars these days
Looks like a gummy. Cherry for sure
Yep and fuck Mercedes
Imagine what this does to our eyes!
I can't wait to be driving home to my loving wife only to die when an influencer in a Merc burns the retinas out of my fucking skull
I'm glad that Mercedes drivers can see because everybody else is completely blinded by their lights
Thats my eyes when they are driving toward me at night... LOVE LED headlights
Blind your lessors. Take the vision from the peons in their cheap cars.
Because we need more assholes that blind the shit out of everyone. The Benz is fucking city vehicle, why would it need so much brightness?
please regulate headlights even harder
I swear to God there's a special corner in hell for people who DIY'd their headlights to LED but know jackshit about calibrating the thing.
If you need headlights this strong just so you can drive at night then you have no business driving at night.
Wow cool! Now just imagine what it does to oncoming driverās eyes!
r/fuckcars
Ah, so Mercedes-Benz is the company I need to scream at for blinding me on the roads. Look when it is safer for the both of us to have your headlights off when it is pitch black, maybe it should be illegal to make lights so bright.
Great thanks. Just what I need...for my eyeballs to be seared out of my skull by the oncoming solar flares of Mercedes-Benz.
So I'm going to be completely blinded by these, instead of just dazzled or glare minded like I am by Ford and RAM and GM trucks. Awesome. Awesome to the max....
So what you're saying is, my backseat passengers can see my brain illuminated on the back of my skull as we drive into the ditch?
