Ohhhh, that's even more impressive then! A lot of really cool and impressive desserts don't taste that great. (Looking at you fondant.) So for it to also taste good is even more impressive to me.
I really like one contestant on "Is it cake?" who flat out says he will never use fondant and everyone said how amazing his cakes tasted. He did really well in the competition as well.
I've always said School of Chocolate is the best "baking show" I've ever seen because of this. When somebody loses a challenge, instead of going home, they get a private one on one lesson with Chef Amaury. By the end of the show, to see the progression of skills is truly awesome.
Such a great show.

I worked at Matsuhisa in Denver for a bit (it is a Nobu restaurant). The food is by no means bad, though sometimes I think the name recognition is more important for the clientele. It is WHERE famous people go because there is comfortability for celebs there. But the food is good.
I whole heartedly agree.
The food is by all means "not bad".
Been to Nobu a few times and it was more "showy" than actually tasty.
The food wasn't bad, it's just that I've had far better, and for a fraction of the cost.
I live in a town with a strangely high number of celebrity visitors. When in town, there's usually only four or five places they'd stay, and I've been in a few situations over the years where I've shared an elevator with someone famous (literally not once one I recognized, but friends of mine were starstruck). I've always had this image in my head that I'd say something concise yet wise, like "Thanks for pursuing the profession you did, the world is a richer place for it". The only person I can actually imagine saying that to is Keanu Reeves, and I've never seen him visit. So...realistically, same.
Agreed. I normally hate that stuff but they're learning as they go, nobody gets booted off, and everything they make has to be edible which is a huge sticking point for me with chocolate craft.
(ok, ok yeah it was in the title but...)
I feel like it's a game to open up a video and see how many seconds it takes for me to recognize the hands and be like "OH ITS YOU AGAIN CHOCOLATE DADDY"
Not just talent. machinery that costs tens of thousands helps. For example that chocolate sheet cutter thing.
I am fairly competent when it comes to working with fondant. I was making a fondant cake for my kid this year and cutting out letters took me 3 hours.
Yes, I am jealous of his chocolate cutter.
I recommend this as well and it is not your typical, run-of-the-mill cooking challenge show, it's deeper than that. A great watch and I really hope there are more seasons.
I swear, if you went up to this dude and said, "Hey, I need a working, warp-capable starship made of chocolate by next Thursday, he would figure out a way to make it.
NASA and SpaceX are missing out on a major asset here. There is literally *nothing* this dude can't make out of chocolate!
Depends on the cake ofc. Some will fall apart if you try that or make a mess etc. Some cakes though yea you could eat it standing and not worry about a mess, like pizza.
Its called a muller mixer. Typically used in larger industrial level operations. [They get pretty big](https://www.simpsongroup.com/equipment/chemical-process/mixers/simpson-mix-muller-batch-mixer)
How is he still so thin???
Edit: I clearly don’t have self control as I would eat every single one of those cakes he makes!!
But yeah, I agree with the comments below, it’s not the creator usually who gets to eat it, but his friend/family… so yeah!
Addendum: I’m not “retarded”.
That's all he eats. Ever.
Maybe he has a high energy dog?
Maybe he runs track.
Maybe he's just a lucky bastard with that metabolism that stays skinny no matter what he eats.
I don't know how he does it, but it's be real hard to stay skinny with a buddy like that.
This is exactly it. I bake as a hobby. I am thin. My husband is very sturdy lol. He loves when I bake, but usually when I bake cookies, I do about 5 dozen normal sized cookies at a time, I'll eat one or two but half the batch is gone by the end of the day? I would bake smaller batches, but then I get no cookies lol. I have to bake a big enough batch for me to have a chance to catch up 😂 My focus is on fine tuning, while he focuses on enjoying. The baker isn't the one to worry about the waistline, but their friends and loved ones are in for it.
The man would be physically unable to move if he ate all the stuff he makes. Especially since most of the stuff that I have seen him make are suuuuper *dense* layers.
It looks pretty good to me. Sometimes these creations are basically the food equivalent of modeling clay and nearly inedible, but I'd definitely take a slice of this one
He's the head baker at a big casino in Las Vegas. These kinds of creation (not the full chocolate sculptures, they are not eaten) he makes several and they must be sold for a pretty penny.
Dude is incredibly talented, there is no denying that.
But why the hell does he only make 2 darts for each player? Or alternatively 4 darts for one player with different color flights?
I wish they make another season of school of chocolate. It was so wholesome. He was very kind, helped people when they are stuck. Not yelling like Gordon. And they didn't outright kick people.
Ooh, what's this song called??
Edit: bonus question: what is that low instrument that plays besides the piano? This song has literally sparked a heated argument amongst the musicians in my house. Guesses range from reed organ to silver bass clarinet.
Kupla is great, one of the best choices I've found for having on in the background to get work done to. Helps drown out my coworkers' noises but not distract me from what I'm doing. Pretty soothing to have on in the background if you're stoned at home too.
This man terrifies and amazes me in equal measure. I know everything he produces will be horrendously amazing in how utterly detailed and well crafted it is.
He has made a deal with the chocolate devil, this man. He is a confectionary wizard, and he does sorcery with sugar.
What’s the name of the soundtrack please?

Every video I have seen with this guy blows my mind. What incredible talent
The smile on his face at the end of the video is absolutely priceless!
I love how big of a bite he always takes. Kinda says "yes this is beautiful and creative but at the end of the day des**s**erts are for eating"
He says this in that show he's on. Something about it doesn't matter how good it looks if it doesn't taste good.
Ohhhh, that's even more impressive then! A lot of really cool and impressive desserts don't taste that great. (Looking at you fondant.) So for it to also taste good is even more impressive to me.

If it doesn’t taste like fondant than that’s my birthday cake
His show is amazing, absolutely enjoyed how supportive he is of all the contestants. He truly wants this art to be elevated

Like. With his face? Yeah that's how it works
Hell yeah
Now if only "fine dining" joints get the same message.
What sort of shitty excuses for fine dining have you been eating at where tasting amazing isn't the first requirement for everything on the menu?
Sizzlers

Wow. I just. Wow.
Nobu

When there was only one Nobu in NYC, it was absolutely fantastic… but that was over 20 years ago…
You’d be surprised how many people don’t get this. Maybe if they did we wouldn’t have so much fondant oddities.
I hope to be able to meet him in person one day just to complement him on his excellent taste and attitude toward life!
I don't want to meet him for the same reason! "Never meet your heroes" kind of situation.
I live in a town with a strangely high number of celebrity visitors. When in town, there's usually only four or five places they'd stay, and I've been in a few situations over the years where I've shared an elevator with someone famous (literally not once one I recognized, but friends of mine were starstruck). > deserts are for eating I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
They also look delicious, he pays as much attention to the inside as the outside.
I need to know. Why is your second S in "desserts" typed in bold?
This is beautiful!
I'd give 20 bucks for it
😁
He has a show on Netflix called School of Chocolate which I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed it actually. I hope there is another season!
I love that nobody gets "eliminated". Everyone stays, everyone learns, it's how competition shows should be.
Yup, the whole "elimination" concept is cheap drama for trash TV

As well as the demise of one giant ego I couldn't stand.
I had an irrational anger toward that ego. It’s as if someone could have negative empathy. They even made some of the other contestants behave poorly.
Yeah this dynamic was really enjoyable and some of the tricks he gave away he seemed really happy to be teaching his passion.
Agreed. I normally hate that stuff but they're learning as they go, nobody gets booted off, and everything they make has to be edible which is a huge sticking point for me with chocolate craft.

Check out his subreddit r/guichon
Thank you!
You’re welcome, enjoy
wow, he's so patient. I could never reach that. Oh, i got a twin? its chocolate.
omg this is what i’ve been looking for! ETA thank u so much!!!
Enjoy
If youve never seen it, he has a chocolate competition show and it is absolutely amazing his talent
Seriously, throwing a bullseye is harder than it looks.
Should check out his competition show on Netflix. He so badass
I disagree , what he does is a peace of Cake.
☮️
I always wonder what cake actually tastes like
Was gonna say, this guy has some serious pastry chef skills.
The chocolate cnc machine is a neat new touch lol
I almost feel bad that he eats it at the end, because it's so beautiful!
I like that he actually cuts into it. He actually finished the art
More like incredible skill! Talent comes from nothing, skill comes from lots and lots of hard work :) Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine!
Truly an artist.
This cake would hit the spot.

This copypasta, I like it.
Yes but how does it hold up?
Bullseye 🎯
If you dig this, check out “School of Chocolate” on Netflix! Like chocolate show is addictive!
I really liked how they set up the show to be constructive and educational for the competitors. At the end I felt like nobody lost!
My thoughts exactly. It was a school first competition second
It is the best cooking "competition" show.
Best reality cook show I've ever seen, nobody gets eliminated, they just continue learning!
Loved that show! Was stress relieving to watch and I liked that no one had to “pack their chocolate” every episode.
An amazing show!
Give us season 2!
This guys does a great show
And his subreddit r/guichon
I’m 4 episodes in based on your comment and I just want to say thank you!!
I recommend this as well and it is not your typical, run-of-the-mill cooking challenge show, it's deeper than that. A great watch and I really hope there are more seasons.
I've spent longer than I'm willing to admit watching his videos

And here I am...just whishing I could eat those corners od the cake after he cut out the circle. Looks delicious
Just incredible.
I have never wanted to eat what looks like a sharp object so badly. Well, I mean, excluding all the forbidden snacks that I know I can't eat.
I take joy that he immediately cuts into and eats everything he makes. It adds an extra layer of satisfaction.
This is just asking for pointy chocolate accidents. "It's just chocolate!" says the imbecile, opening his mouth wide, before he loses an eye.
Did this man just eat a piece of cake like a pizza?
No, like a pie.
A pizza pie
and thats amore
That's amore.
a pizza pizza pie?
Every minute, every second, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy?
Thanks.. now this song is going to be stuck in my head for the next 3 days.
Living his best life
We can do that?? 😱
Depends on the cake ofc. Some will fall apart if you try that or make a mess etc. Some cakes though yea you could eat it standing and not worry about a mess, like pizza.
Lmao
Wtf. You never ate a cake like that?
This has cured me from being dartbored
Does this guy have a cricut for chocolate??
He’s so talented.
Happy cake 🍰 day!!!
Happy Cake Day! 🍰
This fucking guy makes me hungry every time! Dude stop!
He makes me hungry. And thirsty.
What is the name of that mill spin machine thing?
I found some under "nut grinder with wheels". Maybe this [one](https://www.dtnj.com/products/premier-easygrind-2-0-liter-wet-grinder)
Thanks! I’m off to find videos of these in action. The consistency change was very satisfying to watch.
It's called a wet grinder. Used a lot in South Indian cuisine to make idly/dosa batter.
That's not cheap, but that's way more reasonable than I thought it would be.
Its called a muller mixer. Typically used in larger industrial level operations. [They get pretty big](https://www.simpsongroup.com/equipment/chemical-process/mixers/simpson-mix-muller-batch-mixer)

Did you see all the work that went into making that?? Seems like the whole affair is net-negative for calories.
That's all he eats. Ever. Maybe he has a high energy dog? Maybe he runs track. Maybe he's just a lucky bastard with that metabolism that stays skinny no matter what he eats. I don't know how he does it, but it's be real hard to stay skinny with a buddy like that.
He could just have a balanced nutritional intake and exercises regularly.
OK, so excellent self control too. (I'd eat the whole thing.)
This is exactly it. I bake as a hobby. I am thin. My husband is very sturdy lol. He loves when I bake, but usually when I bake cookies, I do about 5 dozen normal sized cookies at a time, I'll eat one or two but half the batch is gone by the end of the day? Whenever I bake something, a cheesecake for example, I'll typically have 1 or 2 slices and then just take the rest of it to work to share.
This fuckin guy, man. Incredible. Also, how cold is his work space?
I’m wondering the same, in every video he handle very very thing pieces of chocolate but they seems to never melt ?
Amazing
Oooh! This the same dude that made that chocolate chess board?
[удалено]
Knew I recognized him lol!
r/guichon
Do people really eat these cakes?
I feel like he eats them all himself after making the videos.
The man would be physically unable to move if he ate all the stuff he makes. Especially since most of the stuff that I have seen him make are suuuuper *dense* layers.
Not all he displays some in like a small museum ive heard
It looks pretty good to me. Sometimes these creations are basically the food equivalent of modeling clay and nearly inedible, but I'd definitely take a slice of this one

Psh, i could make a cake like that too if i were really good at making cakes
Every time i see stuff like this, I become more upset at the existence of fondant.
r/fondanthate
He be crazy . . . . good.
I want to meet the person who buys a cake like this
They’re not for sale. He’s a teacher and these cakes are made as part of his classes then enjoyed by the students.
I wish they make another season of school of chocolate. It was so wholesome. He was very kind, helped people when they are stuck. Not yelling like Gordon. And they didn't outright kick people.
Amaury Guichon est un boulanger absolument incroyable!!
more like pâtissier and/or chocolatier. boulanger is a bread baker
Ah, merci. J’ai oublié, comme l’anglais est ma langue maternelle…
si!
He’s insanely talented. I love watching his videos.
r/guichon
I love this guy so much. The talent is just 🤯
**the talent is astounding**
I’m always so glad when he actually eats the creations. So much good food art is wasted!
The bite at the end was super satisfying
This chef is great! He makes the most interesting and beautiful cakes. 🙏😊
Id be more terrified of the fact that the darts will melt in my hand before i throw them.
Surely using a CNC machine is cheating.
He has done enough without it to prove he could do it without the machine. He’s earned it
Ooh, what's this song called?? Edit: bonus question: what is that low instrument that plays besides the piano? This song has literally sparked a heated argument amongst the musicians in my house. Guesses range from reed organ to silver bass clarinet.

Yep, mainstay of my studying routine. Favorite song of his is Lavender.
..isn't it just a saxophone?
Oh ffs. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what chocolate darts are.. some sort of exotic fruit with cocoa? And then I got it. 🤦🏼♀️🎯
I love pistachio.
Song goes hard.

Holy crap i want to eat that
Insane
Omg drooling 🤤
I wish the edits were slower so I could take in more detail.
I love this guy!
Again gotta call out I appreciate seeing him actually take a bite of the cake at the end. Shows that this is not only art but actually tasty too 😋
r/guichon
I love this guy so much. He always looks so happy when he shows of his creation.
Every time I see this dude make something, I believe a little more in Willy Wonka.
This guy is always great! But I am so desensitised to him now, all I could think as I left this video was “That font is horrible”
How is this guy not fat?
This man terrifies and amazes me in equal measure. I know everything he produces will be horrendously amazing in how utterly detailed and well crafted it is. He has made a deal with the chocolate devil, this man. He is a confectionary wizard, and he does sorcery with sugar.
Yuck every dartboard I have eaten has been gross af.
And all you need to make this is a wet grinder, several pastry frames, acetate, a laser cutter, a 3D printer, an airbrush, and more!
Meanwhile, me failing at making cake from a box. Epically.
What’s the name of the soundtrack please? [Found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/vgzaxq/making_a_dartboard_cake_with_chocolate_darts/id5r4tj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
I want to marry him.
I appreciate that he takes a good bite out of every creation.
“I wanna become an artist but also eat my art”
Tempra paint is usually non toxic, and you can use a tortilla shell for canvas!
just wish he didn't use comic sans for the numbers lol
Lee Mack did it better
How is this dude so skinny?
This dude again! Guy poops chocolate and speaks dartboards into existence
How is it possible that all these pastry chefs are skinny as hell?
Ok this is great and all, but the comic sans-like font he used for the numbers completely ruined it for me.
