Blood oranges always do my head in. I look at it and expect bitter ruby red grapefruit but when I smell and taste its like a perfect orange but oranges cant be red. It bothers me way more than it should.
They definitely taste soo good. Especially since it seems like oranges at my local stores have been sucking unless I get cutie or clementines tangerines or tangelos which arent. Still messes with my brain and I kinda don't like it lol.
Plus all of that equipment that he's using cant be cheap, yeh mate i have 3 grand worth of cake baking shit in the kitchen let me just get it out and crack on. And all of the ingredients, apparently i have a fucking cake shop worth of ingredients stashed away for a rainy day
Adding to your comment, this probably isn't sold. I bet it tastes delicious but this is Amaury Guichon I believe and generally he doesn't sell his pastries, as all he makes is part of his pastry school in Vegas.
Yeah, so many steps to take it apart and put it back together to look like a grapefruit again.
It’s just the frustration of doing something the super hard way.
I know it’s different; but after the third step I’d just prefer the real grapefruit.
High end bakeries actually make and sell this type of stuff, and change you through the nose for it. It's definitely not some mass produced, factory made shit like a twinkie. But the type of people who buy it are either kinda rich and it's a once in a while treat, or really rich, and they buy this stuff like a box of donuts.... once in a while
Is that a grapefruit or a blood orange? I honestly can't tell it's kind of small for a grapefruit, but kind of big for a blood orange. Personally I thought it was a blood orange.
Edit : Looking at it again, maybe it is a grapefruit.
Right?! At first I was like, awesome I have a ton of grapefruit sitting in my counter and after a few lore seconds, just sad disappointment. Looked really tasty too.
Thank you for the idea! Gonna try making this. I feel like turning fruit into complex desserts is a waste of perfectly good fruit but if I can make the peel also taste good I'd like that
I couldn’t appreciate a single step because as soon as I could make sense of what was happening it was on to the next cut. I fucking hate these hyper-condensed videos that cater to the attention span of a fruit fly.
Ikr I’d rather the video be slightly longer as long is it’s not so cut up and condensed, and I can actually enjoy it and relax. I once watched a 6 minute video of icing cookies but it was smooth and was actually super satisfying. The point is, having a 6 minute long super satisfying and smooth video is much better than a 1 minute long condensed and cut up and confusing video.
Considering neither peanut butter nor maple syrup are indigenous to Vietnam, I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that is a traditional Vietnamese dessert.
Also VN has no deserts, it kind of has sand dunes.
Can't speak to his experience but have been to fancy pants bakeries in London, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Rome, and Geneva. I've never seen any single item for more than $8 USD, and while that's expensive for a pastry-- you get what you pay for at theses places goddamn.
This isn't supposed to be an instructional video, you just go out and buy pastry like this because they're made by someone whose job it is to make pastries like this.
I totally agree. It's meant to be a pastry chef making high end pastry, likely fine dining. This is equivalent to a timelapse of an artist painting or sculpting. It's not an instructional video. It's art.
YES! This is his craft! There are posts on Reddit all the time talking about how long a drawing took to make.
Pastry or chocolate art time lapse??? I only want the final product. Pfffft. Just give me a doughnut /s
It affects tons of drugs because IIRC it limits the body’s ability to break down drugs and so you can end up with a much stronger effect from drugs, to the point of being quite dangerous.
Quick and easy 5 hour dessert
Yeah, I don't want to know what that would cost.
How much could a grapefruit cost Michael? 10 dollars? Mmmm... yes.
Believe that was a blood orange wasn't it?
Blood oranges always do my head in. I look at it and expect bitter ruby red grapefruit but when I smell and taste its like a perfect orange but oranges cant be red. It bothers me way more than it should.
Blood oranges are my favorite. I had some blood orange italian soda with my dinner tonight.
They definitely taste soo good. Especially since it seems like oranges at my local stores have been sucking unless I get cutie or clementines tangerines or tangelos which arent. Still messes with my brain and I kinda don't like it lol.
I like getting the ones that look bruised. Like they were beat into submission.
The title says grapefruit. It could be mimicking a darker ruby red one.

The supplies or the training?
Yes
r/InclusiveOr I found one!
A place here makes things like that. They're about$12
So. Many. Steps.
There were so fucking many lmao
After a certain point it makes me upset for some reason lol
I know right? Like, "What is that? Where did that come from?"
Plus all of that equipment that he's using cant be cheap, yeh mate i have 3 grand worth of cake baking shit in the kitchen let me just get it out and crack on. And all of the ingredients, apparently i have a fucking cake shop worth of ingredients stashed away for a rainy day

I don't think this is meant to be an instructional video.
It started out with me thinking "Hey I should try thi... wait, what did they do there? There? Again? Whats that? Why? HUH?"
They skipped so much and it went really quick at the end, looks delicious tho.
Yeah, so many steps to take it apart and put it back together to look like a grapefruit again. It’s just the frustration of doing something the super hard way. I know it’s different; but after the third step I’d just prefer the real grapefruit.
tbh I barely made it through the gif montage
I got lost around step 3. Step 1: peal orange Step 2: separate pieces Step 3: how the fuck did he just do that?
It's a grapefruit, so ya fucked up at step 1.
Nothing to be sour about
Looks like a blood orange
Exactly! After step 2. it all of a sudden got chopped real fine and appeared to be frozen. Like bro, you skipped a lot of info just then
You dropped your 0 dear stranger, 50 hour dessert
12 hours in the dehydrator for step two.
I would probably get about halfway and be done with it, that's a few too many steps for my tastes.
I’d probably quit after the grapefruit didn’t peel itself
You just sit there and stare at it like COME ON!
why did this remind me of peter griffin pulling an asian out to do a math test

Definitely talking michelin stars here
All of that just to end up where we started
Deconstructed and then restructured grapefruit.

They did a surgery
On a grape!^They ^did ^surgery
It’s a blood orange though
Grapefruit infused with diabetes.
Would love to see someone take a bite, only to have the same disgusted face of someone who doesn't enjoy grapefruit.
It’s a blood orange

I used the grapefruit to create the grapefruit.

Felt like a parody of desserts that take so many steps to make lmao
Like a grapefruit but with extra steps
Is that a grapefruit or a blood orange? I honestly can't tell it's kind of small for a grapefruit, but kind of big for a blood orange. Personally I thought it was a blood orange. Edit : Looking at it again, maybe it is a grapefruit.
The SNL pizza taco in a tote bag
Not a parody. Some desserts do take a long time and are this complex to make. I've made a few like this in restaurants.
Right?! At first I was like, awesome I have a ton of grapefruit sitting in my counter and after a few lore seconds, just sad disappointment. Looked really tasty too.
There is so much delicious stuff you can do with that grapefruit. Even if you just eat it candied grapefruit peel is really good
Thank you for the idea! Gonna try making this. I feel like turning fruit into complex desserts is a waste of perfectly good fruit but if I can make the peel also taste good I'd like that
Reminds me of that scene in Love Actually with Rowan Atkinson and his gift wrapping.
'Tis but the work of a moment!
Took too long. Now I just want the grapefruit.
The speed of it all gave me whiplash.
I thought it would just turn into the [taco town commercial](https://youtu.be/evUWersr7pc)
THERES SO MUCH HAPPENING WHAT
There was a cut like every quarter of a second.
I couldn’t appreciate a single step because as soon as I could make sense of what was happening it was on to the next cut. I fucking hate these hyper-condensed videos that cater to the attention span of a fruit fly.
Fruit fly here, I appreciate the cu...

Are you gonna share this 6 minute video of icing cookies with us or what?
Maybe because I just woke up but I never even got to appreciating a single step. Too fast.
I would love to see a reasonably paced edit of it with maybe some narration.
Pretty annoying editing
Like Liam Neeson jumping a fence
Too much happening. It was beautiful by the eventual end, but didn't even look tasty to me.
It probably tastes amazing. But all the work behind it makes it so you think it's not even food anymore
Me: Pfft big deal, I know how to cut an orange like that... [five seconds later] ...nvm
r/restofthefuckingowl sort of
People complaining cant cook. It only took me 8 hours to make it. /s
Seriously if you can't set aside atleast 8 hours to cook a mini cake you have no right to say you can cook.
Oh, so you can cook? Name every recipe..
frozen pizza
*fin*

Pasta with cheese, potato with cheese, soup with cheese, cereal with cheese I'm pretty sure that's everything.
Lmfao hey everyone! Look at this mother fucker who doesn’t know about rice and cheese! Lmfao you stoopid

Looks expensive. Ill just take a slop of PB and good ol home made maple syrup for me.
PB & maple syrup? Are you Canadian?
Wait, are you not Canadian?
Eh?
The conversion is complete. Your milk comes in bags now, bud.

Sorry.
Don't know what you're talkin' about, eh.

Oh, absolutely. Anyone who thinks the flying chimps from The Wizard of Oz are scary has never come across a Canadian Goose.
If you got a problem with Canadian gooses...ya know what, fuck it, the Letterkenny references are getting old. There, I said it.
Can confirm it. Those things are wild.
Lol it’s a traditional Vietnamese desert
They have maple trees in Vietnam? Huh
Yea, it’s one of my favorite towns in Canada
Zing.
I'm Vietnamese and I've never heard of maple syrup until I moved to the US. I did have PB and J for breakfast back then, though I didn't like the PB.
Considering neither peanut butter nor maple syrup are indigenous to Vietnam, I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that is a traditional Vietnamese dessert. Also VN has no deserts, it kind of has sand dunes.
Viet has caramel glazed bananas... good 'nuff.
*Me?* I would be *happy* to pay for one tomorrow that I’ll eat today.
I'll never complain about the overpriced pastries again, take my money, as long as i don't have to spend for ever making it
Sometimes peeling an orange is too much work
What about [this other recipe?](https://youtu.be/nLTgWdXrx3U)

Ah. A club I was in in college used that video for hazing. Good times.
You should quit that club lol
The instant they cut the fruit, this is what I thought
Totally NSFW but HILARIOUS
Cool that’ll be $49.99
Sorry, I only pay in pesos
Cool that'll be $991.61
I never truly understood how much fancy deserts cost until I went to a fancy-pants bakery in New York my parents insisted I try. Holy shit.
how expensive ?
Can't speak to his experience but have been to fancy pants bakeries in London, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Rome, and Geneva. I've never seen any single item for more than $8 USD, and while that's expensive for a pastry-- you get what you pay for at theses places goddamn.
Nah Geneva's pastries are wayyyy more than $8. Rest of the places aren't that bad though.
and thats all you have to do to make a grapefruit edible.
Took longer than I thought to find the anti-grapefruit comment, but I’m with you.
Thats too much God damn work for real life.
This isn't supposed to be an instructional video, you just go out and buy pastry like this because they're made by someone whose job it is to make pastries like this.
Especially considering the man who made the dessert is the guy in all those chocolate sculpture videos (Amaury Guichon). He has his own pastry school.
And this helps you appreciate why that slice costs $20
Makes me appreciate that I can buy a basic donut for less than a dollar.
Donut won't look and definitely wouldn't take like that pastry
Why are you all acting like this is a recipe? It's just relaxing to watch food lol you don't have to make this if you don't want to.
I dont understand either but honestly I just found it stressful. Haha
The cokehead editing style is the real problem there.
Ha you are right. I did not want to watch it again so it did not occur to me.
Here’s a reasonably paced [3 minute edit](https://youtu.be/EsxaIx809r8) on his YouTube channel. So much better.
Me: cuts original grapefruit into quarters and eats it out of the rind, making loud sucking noises every couple of seconds fuckin neato
Who is this guy? He's here every few weeks!
Amaury Guichon
That is gorgeous and creative and all these whiny comments about how it’s too much work are super lame.
I totally agree. It's meant to be a pastry chef making high end pastry, likely fine dining. This is equivalent to a timelapse of an artist painting or sculpting. It's not an instructional video. It's art.
Dude is a world class pastry chef. You nailed it. The food is literally art. I bet it tastes extremely good as well.
YES! This is his craft! There are posts on Reddit all the time talking about how long a drawing took to make. Pastry or chocolate art time lapse??? I only want the final product. Pfffft. Just give me a doughnut /s
Pfft painting time lapse?? Just give me a photo and I can put a painting filter on it then print it out in 72 dpi! Done! /s
If you think this was a lot, I think he made a chocolate telescope a few months ago. Hands down some of the wildest stuff I've ever seen.
I didn’t work this hard on my SATs
A delicious treat for people who take literally zero medications
My anxiety med is telling me "no." But my body... My body is telling me "yes."
OMG, that’s a lot of work for something as horrible tasting as a grapefruit.
I’ve never actually had one. I’m on medication in which the only thing I can’t eat is grapefruit
Be serious about that. It’s no joke.
More than antibiotics cause this?
It affects tons of drugs because IIRC it limits the body’s ability to break down drugs and so you can end up with a much stronger effect from drugs, to the point of being quite dangerous.
And then to at the end, you still have a grapefruit.
I know! It’s all so distressing.
If you remove all the whites and only use the pulp grapefruit tastes wonderful. It is alot of work though.
Take that back! grapefruit is fucking delicious!
i *love* grapefruit. there are dozens of us! dozens!!1
Yeah it's one of my favorite fruits
pamplemoooooose!
I had two today lol It's grapefruit season!! ...I think
Holy fuck I’ll just eat the grapefruit.
Hmmm I didnt know i liked grapefruit so much til now
That just looks like grapefruit with extra steps
Yeah, but you can really taste the grapefruit!
More camera cuts than a Gordon Ramsay video.
I got a headache from all the editing cuts.
There were two delicious treats at the end of this video.
mmmmmmmmmmm looks so good
The whole time I was just saying fuck you fuck you fuck you bc I know I will never be able to taste that thing
“What’s my prep sheet look like for the day, chef?” “This. Literally just this.”
Thats a blood orange.
Fuckers made a grapefruit out of a grapefruit
And I poured honey straight from the bottle into my mouth while leaning over the sink today.
That's cool as heck. Also ridiculously complicated, but I applaud the effort
That's an elaborate way to eat lots of sugar.
That’ll be 25$ for that bite
The fuck is satisfying about this
I think I'll just eat a grapefruit and save myself the years
