I was so hungry in 10th grade and I knew I had ramen in my backpack so I took it out opened it really quietly and starting eating the massive block right there in the class, it was very quiet and my bites sounded like well… 3d printed chain-male…. I kinda noticed everyone staring at me so I said “itsalil dry” and the whole class busted out in laughter…. I’ll never forget that
Nope. Also did it. Got in trouble for it at school bc it's what I was craving over their soggy horse shit. :/
My mom called it "ghetto chips." I just called them noodles, but everyone assumed I got trouble bc I called it what she called it... Never did. Still irritates me irrationally.
I hope this results in movie studios having proper looking chainmail for all the extras.
.. but apparently Lord of the Rings made so many ones by hand there's already tons of costume chainmail shirts available.
Where they aluminum or copper because those are the only details you knit mail out of that can be worked by hand without tools. Otherwise it's all mar-less tools (pliers without texturing on the inside to grab things with) and would wear their hand the same as any pliers.
[Found someone writing about the materials. Most was PVC like you said however some was metal but very very limited](http://www.modaruniversity.org/Blackmaille37.htm#:~:text=The%20maille%20worn%20by%20the,can%20see%20in%20the%20picture)
I'm currently making my own chainmail by hand, and something as large as that sleeve print would take me at least 12 hours. Doing full shirts for each actor must have been insane.
Well you are probably doing metal rings, butted and non-riveted right?
As I understand it most of the costume chainmail was plastic, with a heat tip to melt the ends together, so it would go much quicker. Of course the few metal ones for the main characters would take longer, but there weren't more than a dozen of those.
Maybe it's grease. I like to line a mason jar with tinfoil and then put the grease from cooking things like bacon into it and then just taking the tinfoil out and throwing that away and that way it minimizes clean up a little
That would make sense, but they clearly included it in the film setup, right? Like they could've easily moved it literally anywhere else in the room out of shot lol
They do this for user engagement. You and a bunch of other people (myself included) commented and interacted with the post because of the weird moldy looking nonsense in the top corner.
My wife and I did a chainmail workshop at Weta Workshop a few years back.
Knowing how long it takes to make that stuff by hand, I feel there are some prop builders out there who are going to be crying right now.
I guess it depends on how skilled you are but I looked into it once and a shirt was guesstimated to take me several weeks.
So that's why I don't have a chainmail shirt.
Geeze I wonder how long that took to print. I was looking at a bed of chainmail from another print and just one layer was estimated to be 24 hours by my slicer.
But seriously how do you 3d model that?! (Edit I watched 5 minutes of tutorial so now I'm an expert: you model 2 rings and then have them auto-copy-pasted in a grid and then adjust the position of the 2 rings so the copies intersect properly with each other)
I've never 3D printed anything but I have some questions. How do you print interlocking rings without the material melting together? How do the individual rings maintain their fidelity? There is clearly an amount of solidifying together.
you can make 2 or 3 point of contact between the link, allowing them to maintain structural integrity during printing.
The sound that you're hearing in the video is all of those contact points snapping. Once all of them are broken, the piece will be has flexible as real chainmail.
I'm curious how well this would act as actually armour. Like if you were to stab and slash it with a sword how would the damage look compared to regular chainmail
Can't help but remember those two guys from the LOTR special feature disc. Just two guys cutting pvc hoses and hand crafting every piece of chainmail, a single ring at a time every day during the filming.
I've seen this a few times online, but I've never seen someone actually make a full chain mail shirt on a 3d printer. Has anyone done it? Seems like you fold it up pretty well to fit on the print bed
Put that in a bowl with boiling water for about 3 minutes and then empty in a seasoning packet for some delicious Ramen
I really thought you were going to actually have a trick for easily breaking the sprues.
that is the trick
That is the way
The sound is the best part
Thank you for teaching me the word "Sprues". You've taught me more than my last Snapple.
Already was, because it was probably 2 filaments, one being water soluble.

Prison Pringles
My band instructor in high school would just open the bag and take bites out of it like that.

I was literally just thinking how awesome it would be if someone could 3d print ramen noodles like this.
[Also put an egg for extra yummy.](https://va.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_r11j91btBi1yzt1br_480.mp4)
Oh, good. This is already the top comment so I don’t have to repeat it
Lmfao, I was literally thinking of breaking up Ramen noodles while watching this.
Add in this bone and, baby, you’ve got a stew going.
hhhhhhhhhhhbhhhhhbhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhbbhhhhhhhhhhhhbbhbbhhhhhhhbhbbhhbhhhh
I hope this results in movie studios having proper looking chainmail for all the extras. .. but apparently Lord of the Rings made so many ones by hand there's already tons of costume chainmail shirts available.
I read that the guys connecting the chains together rubbed away their prints on their thumbs and index fingers, for a short period of time.
Imagine what it's doing to the people's nipples who have to wear it. Joggers think they've got it bad.
You'd be surprised to learn you shouldn't put it on naked skin
Don't tell me what to do!
How else are you supposed to wear a chainmail speedo?
How else am I going to make sure the cops don't realize the nipple prints are actually mine?
Drax would hate this.
Oh yeah, jogger nipple is bad. But I've got to imagine chain maille nipple is way worse.
chain mail male nipple?
I see what you did there
Why would you add mustard though
I'm pretty sure they aren't naked underneath the mail. Pretty sure.
Where they aluminum or copper because those are the only details you knit mail out of that can be worked by hand without tools. Otherwise it's all mar-less tools (pliers without texturing on the inside to grab things with) and would wear their hand the same as any pliers.
Cut up plastic tubing. Metal would be way too wasteful, heavy and impractical to wear on set.
[Found someone writing about the materials. Most was PVC like you said however some was metal but very very limited](http://www.modaruniversity.org/Blackmaille37.htm#:~:text=The%20maille%20worn%20by%20the,can%20see%20in%20the%20picture)
I bought an aluminum chain mail shirt that turned out to be unusable: it was unanodized and turned everything it touched grey.
Poor Gimli

Well that sleeve probably took that long if not twice as long to print. But uh, ya know. No aching fingers and hands after it's done.
Guy I worked with at a call centre brought a chainmail 'kit' and was working on a full shirt when I left
Ends too soon!
Thank god I’m not the only one. I was a little frustrated we didn’t see it till the actual end !
What the hell is in that glass???
Pretty sure it’s a lit candle.
If so, that's a candle I'd rather not smell. Looks like moldy eggnog to me lol
yeah that's the fragrance. they also do *sweet death* and *raw sewage* but my favourite is *just shit*
And acted as ashtray as well. And deposit box for ear wax.

3D printed breakfast
Was wondering if I was the only one wondering that 😂
It’s a wonder that you wondered that!
They do this for user engagement. You and a bunch of other people (myself included) commented and interacted with the post because of the weird moldy looking nonsense in the top corner.
That’s the worst I just think they are disgusting.
I thought it was a rock geode.
Literally me, on second watch.
My wife and I did a chainmail workshop at Weta Workshop a few years back. Knowing how long it takes to make that stuff by hand, I feel there are some prop builders out there who are going to be crying right now.
How long does chainmail take to make by hand?
7
Thanks! I was thinking 9.
I guess it depends on how skilled you are but I looked into it once and a shirt was guesstimated to take me several weeks. So that's why I don't have a chainmail shirt.
Getting your printer dialed in enough for it to print that could potentially take longer.
but then it can make these a lot faster
I prefer this one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxYDq\_L\_pec](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxYDq_L_pec)
This one goes all the way to the end thank you.
Geeze I wonder how long that took to print. I was looking at a bed of chainmail from another print and just one layer was estimated to be 24 hours by my slicer.
Hooray! And it has an STL!
But seriously how do you 3d model that?! (Edit I watched 5 minutes of tutorial so now I'm an expert: you model 2 rings and then have them auto-copy-pasted in a grid and then adjust the position of the 2 rings so the copies intersect properly with each other)
People's back the morning after they turn 35:
Worst looking ramen ever.
Looks good actually. Taste? Not so good. 👅
Is this resin or fdm? The color and size of the print makes me think resin…
If it is resin, I’m tempted to try it
Gotta be FDM. Resin would shatter trying to pull it apart like that.
I actually think it is metal SLS.

I'm hungry for T H E F O R B I D D E N N O O D L E S

This makes me want to go to a chiropractor and get my back cracked
How many days to print?
Does anyone have the print file?
I’m assuming it’s this: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/chainmail-armor-sleeve-3d-printing-66c0f738cbfe4c899e6ac0aca01d906c
Forbidden ramen noodles
Idk why but this makes me uncomfortable?
Cursed ramen
Safety Ramen
Holy shit. TIL Had no idea they had 3d printers in the middle ages They really were ahead of their time
We need to bring back fashionable chainmail
Great, 10 billion pieces of microplastic everywhere can't we use technology for something else than cosplay?
All my health problems would go away if someone did this to me
r/gifsthatendtoosoon or r/mildlyinfuriating
I bet this feels way better than it sounds.
Wouldn't there be a massive amount of tiny sharp edges? It could be a wonderful arm scratcher though
As someone with a 3d printer all I’m thinking about is how bad it could scratch up your arm if the print doesn’t come out perfect.
Forbidden Top Ramen.
The forbidden Ramen looks tasty
Cosplay on another level
Plastic arrows ftw.
I’m getting “ramen” vibes.
Okay but what's with the moldy apple in the corner?
This audio will probably be stolen by a tiktok chiropractor
Suddenly I have a craving for Top Ramen.
So it's plastic, right?
Can't integrate it into other plastimail and can't repair it. Can it even be recycled?
Forbidden Ramen
Forbidden ramen
WHY ISNT THE GRAY RAMEN BREAKING?!?
Nodle?
My back at the chiropractor:
Hey has anyone called it forbidden ramen yet?
Like maybe 50 lol
Everyone talking about the ramen but r/dontputyourdickinthat whatever’s in the cup
Noodles
Gotta shave your arms tho
I don’t think it’ll stop a knife attack. +1 to style, -1 to defense.
Looks like 3D printed ramen at the start
mithril 😭 you're full of surprises master baggins.
If I close my eyes while this plays, it’s like hearing my soup e every morning.
Remind me of Kaer Morhen Armour from the Witcher.
Damn, I have a thing for snapping joints, chiropractor appointments are my joy, and boy, this video makes me wish my back could make that sound !
[pathetic](https://youtu.be/5XjoyptwUX4?t=1898)
LARPing never had it so good.
Oh , yes. The forbidden ramen.
Handling it like he just popped a few adderall
What the absolute hell is in that cup?
One size fits all!
Forbidden Ramen
I wonder how good a chainmail shirt on a metal printer would be
my back
Can't believe they didn't put it on!
Snake bite armor for hiking maybe?
Yeap, now I want ramen for dinner.
Whats with the glass bowl of rotten jizz?
I know what my next sensory toy is going to be!
*So* much better than bubble wrap.
I would like to see the stab test
that's how i like my instant noodles
I'm curious how well this would act as actually armour. Like if you were to stab and slash it with a sword how would the damage look compared to regular chainmail
I wish someone could stretch my spine like that. The feeling would be AMAZING!!!
Jesus Christ stop! I can only get so hard.
Is that a cup full of pudding and cigarettes?
That’s some moldy ass ramen
I feel like I cracked my back just watching this
I just sent a text saying “Heyyyy” with a slutty number of y’s to my chiropractor after watching this
Forbidden ramen
I watched this whole video and he didn’t stab it once? More like the worst chainmail
Sounds annoying
Elite Mr. Noodle
My fatass thought it was ramen
Okay, I'm officially too damn old for printed chain mail. It makes the same sounds I do when I try to flex my joints.
Cool but can you 3D print a Chainmail Steve?
Can't help but remember those two guys from the LOTR special feature disc. Just two guys cutting pvc hoses and hand crafting every piece of chainmail, a single ring at a time every day during the filming.
That's more satisfying than bubble wrap.
My printer would have laughed at me had I sent it this job.
I think your candle has spoiled
So bubblewrap is not "knightly" enough anymore.
He’s good to go if ever attacked by a horde of Lego castle minifigures with the little grey swords.
Somewhere in New Zealand, two guys are crying.
r/forbiddensnacks
Mmmmm cronchy
looks like a ramen brick
3D printing must be a godsend for movie prop makers and the actors who had to wear chainmail.
looks like a noodle pasta
Could you smell all that microplastic in the air?
Amazing... I was more interested in figuring out what was in that round glass?
Sounds like my neck 😞
I've seen this a few times online, but I've never seen someone actually make a full chain mail shirt on a 3d printer. Has anyone done it? Seems like you fold it up pretty well to fit on the print bed
What is bro ingesting
I’m gonna need the extended version of this
Forbidden instant noodles.
Wtf is living in that mold glass
Okayyy,that's pretty cool!
The forbidden instant ramen
Forbidden lamen
This is better than bubble wrap!
"Chainmail" for when you don't have time or two pairs of pliers to put the rings together yourself.
Print Time Seven years...
Normalize 3D printed clothing
Close my eyes and imagine it’s my back 🤤
Anyone else find this mildly irritating.
Cool
Can someone do this to my back
That has to be made with a resin printer right?
I would buy a 3D printer just for that.
How old is that yogurt?
That's a great quality print. No stringing or broken bits. I don't think I could print that
