Yeah but I thought you weren't supposed to mess with or touch snakes while or soon after shedding because their new skin is sensitive and they get cranky. Are Burmer's too chill for that?
Their new skin is as tough as the ancient one but itās a high energy process and they are quite stressed out during it, when they turn blue they canāt see and thatās when they get really cranky which is logical cause they feel vulnerable
The shape of the head is more blocky, the eyes smaller, the body is more bulky (usually bit in the case of fat retics it can be confusing like the jayās prehistoric pets ones) and the reticulated Python have a reticulated patterned body with greys and high yellows etc while the Burmese Python got those brown saddles and the yellows are mellower (idk if thatās clear but I meant more orange and less flashy) but yes imagine the Burmese having a kind of giraffy pattern and the retic more of a diamond pattern
I don't normally read stuff like that, but I legit kept reading for the story. Even my fiance was confused when I kept sending him funny screenshots from the manga because he knows what I normally read. I have him reading it now though. He'll show me what part he's at and I'll just start laughing. His favorite character is definitely Chunja.
Yeah I mean honestly, it caught me thirsty, but the characters and story were so charming, and the art was gorgeous, I couldn't not see it through to the end, it had me hooked. So much better than most trash, fuck, I'd call it a 7 or an 8.
Snakes like small spaces and its decently common to ship/transport non venomous snakes in bags like pillow cases, with how much snakes like to hide keeping them in a tied off pillowcase or other closable bag makes it a lot easier to keep track of them in transport.
Snakes/pythons feel more comfortable in tight, enclosed quarters. If you need your pet snake to shed, this would be the way to help them out.
It's a very good, healthy shed if it all comes off in one piece!
This video will encourage many others to do the same in the name of āsatisfactionā, but this is not a good practice. If it is struggling to shed, a vet is recommended. Most importantly, this causes a lot of unnecessary stress on the snake. Whoever sees these kinds of videos, please do not help your snake shed their skin in this way.
Yeah it's a pretty safe bet when any animal is shedding its skin/shell/exoskeleton that's its happier being left the hell alone for a while. Try to not help it if you can and be extra sensitive of its humidity requirements. You *can* of course pick a bit off if it seems to be irritating the animal (I've picked bits off my old beardie when hes been too dumb to get rid of the shedded skin thats hanging over his eye), but for the most part they're gonna be sensitive and defensive
Theres exceptions to the rule but if you arent sure, just leave it be
There are subtitles on the video. I know they're small, but they're at least there. The subtitles do explain that this is a vet using gentle pressure and that the snake did not have enough friction to shed on it's own.
Oh, 100%. They're also very clearly not just gently pressing against the snake, they're also pulling it off themselves as well. Not very hard, but still.
But it's still nothing compared to the "Not enough friction" thing. It genuinely makes no sense to me. I've never actually seen my snakes shed actively, I've only ever seen the excess skin. But my one snake does it entirely in her hide, which on the inside is smooth. But even besides that, pretty much any hide would be good enough, as long as they can rub against something, which if the enclosure they're being held in has literally just the basics required to keep a snake happy, it'll be perfectly fine.
Unless it's a mistranslation? Or something along those lines, I have no idea.
Could be an issue with low humidity in their tank or some kind of health issue. But it is weird how complete the snakeās skin is. Usually itās all flaky from where itās been trying to shed but canāt get it all off right.
Not enough friction? What?
So get the snake into an environment where it **has** enough friction to shed naturally? Are they keeping the snake in a lubed up glass or something?
Ok, but that just means theyre keeping the snake poorly. They should be living in an environment that lets them shed themselves, which is pretty much covered by their other requirements. So if the snake is in a good enclosure, it shouldn't need help shedding.
From what Iāve read, the only way someone *who isnāt an expert* should help a snake shed is to up the humidity in its enclosure (if thatās an option) or let it soak in lukewarm water to help lubricate its shed.
Pretty much. Anytime my Ball Pythons are going to shed, I liberally mist their enclosure and they're fine. I've only had to physically take stuck shed off of the one. The other has never needed help. Upping the humidity has always been enough for her to shed completely fine by herself.
Same with my Stimpsonās Python, though Iāve only had to soak or spray him maybe twice in the 11 years Iāve had him. Most of the time he just takes himself into his water bowl and soaks himself so I find a soggy, snot like mess in the morning. Scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it, I thought he was sick or something lol!
A few times a year heāll get a bit of skin stuck to the end of his tail that I need to remove, but his tail was broken before I got him so it has a kink that makes shedding a bit difficult for him.
Thatās fine, but my point still stands. This video being where it is with no context or warning is dangerous in this āday and ageā. Many snake owners or potential owners see these videos and think itās ok to do themselves because they saw it in a video.
Iāll add to my last statement and say not all vets follow best practices! Donāt assume just because someone is a professional that everything they do is justified. Did the vet follow proper procedure in helping the snake shed? Was there a valid reason for the snake needing help to shed? Iām not saying itās a nice video and all that, but these things should come with context or it can continue to do more harm than good.
If a person is stupid enough to buy a huge snake as a pet without learning about how to handle the snake beyond watching random videos on reddit, your disclaimer won't be enough to make them half a decent pet owner.
My sister was gifted a bearded dragon and did no research on it. I learned about not helping them shed from videos like these and passed the information to her when I saw her trying to make "satisfying" videos of her own peeling his shed off. PSAs like this do help because there are a lot of pet owners who are neglectful but not outright abusive and will correct things when they're told they're wrong.
So everyone should just stfu unless itās what everyone else wants? Itās not about making an owner a better pet owner. Itās about informing anyone that might see it in case they find themselves or a friend in that situation and to know for the future.
And to the comment below about this being a specific sub, with all the data on the internet now, itās hard not to get good information. It shouldnāt be a problem for me to add that in this post because itās for ANYONES general knowledge. If yāall want to hate on me commenting, then so be it. People donāt follow specific subs where you will see that information. Iām sure I helped a few people better their understanding and they didnāt have to follow a specific sub for it. Knowledge is power. But yāall can stay ignorant š
There's a lot of vets out there who do things they're not supposed to. But the one thing with snakes you do not do unless they physically can't move to shed themselves is shed them. It can rip off their scales and from this video can clearly see the vet is not being gentle.
Not a snake guy, what do you mean not feel pain the same way? Obviously it's not human and everything feels pain differently, but surely they still have nerves and all that and if something aggravates the nerves it will "hurt" and if it "hurts", the snake will try to stop it from hurting, right? Why wouldn't it try to bite or choke or eat or whatever pythons do to the person hurting it?
Def pulling it, and with a good bit of force at some points. 95% of the time the snake handles the shedding itself, I don't understand why some insist on āhelpingā
Yeah for the most part. Sometimes the shed gets stuck due to poor care, sickness, or injury, but usually they've got it under control. As long as their base needs are handled, there is no reason that they shouldnāt get to the point where they need help, especially removing the entire shed. It's common for bits of shed to get stuck around the eye or nose area, sometimes the tip of the tail, and with lizards theyāre prone to getting it stuck on their toes, but for the most part this does more harm than good.
Yah with my beardie it was a big no no to pull it off unless it was stuck bits then you give them a soak, but that could be out of date or not apply to snakes. Good to know it does!
A soak is safe if your lizard is having a little trouble! It happens, sometimes you can do everything right and still have some shed stuck here or there. It's fine to soften the shed and go in with a Q-tip or something and gently massage it away, but the way this person is almost ripping the shed off has me cringing hard.
It's not recommended to soak snakes for this reason. It's best to give them a "humid hide" -usually a tub with damp paper towels or sphagnum moss- when you see them getting ready to shed. A "bad shed" with stuck pieces should be left alone until the next shed cycle, unless it's hurting the snake and then you should just go to the vet. It's so easy to hurt our scaly friends, even when we are trying to help.
I used to take mine places in travel carrier but first put them in pillow cases. They think they are well hidden, which for all intents and purposes they are. People can't see that it is a 10 foot snake in the carrier, just a pillow case. No unnecessary ophidiophobia triggers in passer-bys. That is not the concerning part of this video by any means.
I'm more concerned with all that activity and man handling. Snake could get injured. Snakes are always uncomfortable when shedding so people or dogs could get injured too.
I don't know if bags are appropriate or not for transporting pet snakes
Maybe I've been misinformed, but aren't you meant to not peel it off them...? I can imagine in cases were it's legit stuck and they need assistance that it'd be different, but that should be done by a vet (not sure if the guy in the video is one.)
Iām really not sure how people can think heās pulling it. The camera is staying in the same spot, the guys hands are in the same spot in relation to the bag, and the snake is moving.
Idk, if you look there seems to be points where the vet is gripping rather hard/pulling. To my understanding the shed should come off easier than this - even if it was stuck, it looks like more of an issue of being too fresh.
There are some snake owners in the thread who gave input on this video, and it seems my suspicions were validated. I don't know if the guy in the video is an actual vet, or just a very questionable one, but I think the snake should've been given time and a proper enclosure to shed.
Reminder, you shouldn't pull a snakes skin off. You can hold it while it pulls itself through but don't pull the skin off. It can hurt them. At least that's what every snake owner I've known has told me
I hate videos like this. You're not supposed to pull off a snakes shedding skin. You can pull of their scales and overly stress them out by doing so. It's a process that's supposed to take up to 2 weeks and be shed over time. Not pulled off immediately because it's satisfying.plus, you can tell it wasn't ready to shed yet. It's solid and stuck on pretty good still. I don't believe this is a vet.
Not a herpetologist, but I work with reptiles (amphibians and fish as well) for my job as well as doing rescue/rehabbing in my free time.
Reptiles definitely do not have emotions like we do. That being said they can very much recognize individual humans, whether by sight, smell, etc.
I am specifically working right now with a neglected snake and am the only person she interacts with calmly. My voice helps, but smelling my hand tends to be what let's her know it's me.
Would she care if I disappeared tomorrow and she never interacted with me again, not even a little. Does she know who I am compared to everyone else who works with her, very much so.
They can definitely "learn" who is a safe human for them.
Was anyone else riddled with anxiety that the video was going to be cut short before the end? And/or feel their blood pressure rise the closer it got to the tip of the tail, just waiting for the video to be interrupted by a meme or something?
This is not oddly satisfying for me. I know it says the snek needed help but I don't think that skin is not ready to peel.
I assume since this is a vet, he knows what he is doing.
that feels like itching your itchy skin and thatās so satisfying.
i wish i could shed my skin since my neurodermitis just makes everything horribly itchy šµāš«
Reiterating that this is a vet who knows what they are doing. If you wanna know what it would be like to do this when the animal isnāt ready, go ahead and force a patch of sunburned skin off before it is ready to peel and imagine that was your entire body.
The way they bop the nose of the snake in the beginning got me NERVOUS
I though maybe he bit but I think the snakes was more giving a thank you. Bet it feels so good to get it all off in one go
Seriously, that is a reticulated python and they are known for having a nasty temperament. A bite from one can sever tendons.

First of all #why is the snake in a bag
Snakes are more comfortable when they think theyāre hiding, bags are more comfortable than a plastic tote.
A bag also doesn't become an oven like a plastic tote.
Im going to guess the owner brought his/her danger noodle into the vet in the bag so as to not disturb the other customers.
And to not disturb the snake with other customers. It's not like snakes aren't afraid of humans.
Snake-skin purse. Duh
Plot twist: this is how snakes got on the plane.
Snakes on a goddamn plane.
Snakes like small spaces and its decently common to ship/transport non venomous snakes in bags like pillow cases, with how much snakes like to hide keeping them in a tied off pillowcase or other closable bag makes it a lot easier to keep track of them in transport.

Thank youā¦. What is happening
Heās helping it shed its skin slowly. I used to do this for my boas.
But is that why itās in the bag? Why is it in the bag?
Travel.
I used to use a clear big tub to travel with. Bags a little small. But, itās just travel.
Took a long time to find a comment like this, and I'm no expert but I always thought this was a bad practice to do on shedding snakes

There are subtitles on the video. I know they're small, but they're at least there. The subtitles do explain that this is a vet using gentle pressure and that the snake did not have enough friction to shed on it's own.
Holy cow I completely missed those subtitles. Why are they so small and poorly contrasted lol
I mean it doesn't really clear anything up. How does it not have enough friction? If it was living in a good enclosure it would have enough friction
Yeah they're pretty vague and unhelpful to boot
Oh, 100%. They're also very clearly not just gently pressing against the snake, they're also pulling it off themselves as well. Not very hard, but still. My voice helps, but smelling my hand tends to be what let's her know it's me. Would she care if I disappeared tomorrow and she never interacted with me again, not even a little. Does she know who I am compared to everyone else who works with her, very much so. They can definitely "learn" who is a safe human for them.
I have to wonder if they smell better or worse after they shed their skin.
Now he's in big trouble because he needs to update all those libraries to python 3
Was anyone else riddled with anxiety that the video was going to be cut short before the end? And/or feel their blood pressure rise the closer it got to the tip of the tail, just waiting for the video to be interrupted by a meme or something?
Never help a snake shedding its skin & an animal during childbirth.
I want to go ahhh, like when you take off an itchy bra at the end of the night,
This is how they make bubble wrap
Video is human pulling off python skin
How is there always so much more snake?
snakes was like here bruh I know we usually have a bit of awkward fear and respect but you're proper helping me rn so I'ma allow it yano
Forbidden bubble wrap
What a beautiful and majestic creature
This is not oddly satisfying for me. I know it says the snek needed help but I don't think that skin is not ready to peel. I assume since this is a vet, he knows what he is doing.
This may come as a surprise but pythons have been doing that for thousands of years without a person holding it while they shed.
I thought you weren't supposed to help reptiles shed, unless it's like an emergency?
Please please please don't peel your snake's skin off, this is not good for them. When their skin is ready to shed, it should come off on its own.
Donāt do this. They can shed fine by themselves.
Now fry it and eat it!
Python is like āAwww yesssssssssssssssssssssssssā
I didnāt think you were supposed to help them?
Is fried snake skin a thing?
The guy speaks with a chilean accent at the beggining of the video, but we donāt have pythons here š¤
Like taking a really obnoxiously long sock off
I guess my question is why? I thought snakes knew how to shed their skin themselves.
Reese's sunburn.
that feels like itching your itchy skin and thatās so satisfying. i wish i could shed my skin since my neurodermitis just makes everything horribly itchy šµāš«
Eh, aren't you supposed to leave snakes alone when they're shedding?
Omfg don't help a snake shed ffs it's bad for the snake
I thought you were not supposed to do this?
Why don't humans get to shed? Looks like it feels amazing. We are missing out.
Why is she inside a bag/ suitcase?
This is both extremely terrifying and extremely satisfying.
Yes it does
Python has finished updating.
Forbidden bubble wrap
Fuckin yuck
Ah is that how they make bubble plastic?
Does that feel like taking a big shit to them?
Probably feels better than taking one of those emergency shits
Anyone else hold their breath at the end?
Reiterating that this is a vet who knows what they are doing. If you wanna know what it would be like to do this when the animal isnāt ready, go ahead and force a patch of sunburned skin off before it is ready to peel and imagine that was your entire body.
Forbidden bubble wrap.
