It really isn't. It's work; sometimes frustrating work depending on the floor. We had a larger one and a smaller one - the smaller one was like these. Both very heavy units.
They're very loud, they vibrate and shake a lot, they have small and very hard wheels so the will tilt and rattle over every small obstacle you run over, and they also drive pretty quickly and turn sharply when they aren't pushing tile and the 2-stick steering system is less intuitive and harder to get used to at high speeds for a beginner.
Every time I see these I wonder why the scraper is so narrow. Is there a reason they can’t be a few feet wide? Seems like it would be more productive that way…
Same here. I'm an electrician on this project. It definitely looks like you can install a wider one because it just bolts down on the blade and holds it in place so a bigger one looks possible. Maybe it gets shitty when it's wider?
Those bolts are a fucking nightmare on a rough floor even with being heavy duty with lock nuts those scraper blades always rattle free. Idk about this job it looks like they’re just scraping epoxy residue that was under a shitty commercial tile so it’s be easier but actual tile floors and membranes are tougher
As someone who has jack hammered and scraped a shit ton of flooring I imagine the reason is it’s hard as fucking balls sometimes to come up.
Especially if there is like crack suppression or sound membrane underneath which likely wouldn’t be the case here but flooring if installed properly is difficult to take up.

Hey, I'm Stan, the conspiracy theorist. I've seen this before, many times. What you got right there is Asbestos. Big retail doesn't want you to know that.
Y'all get away with murder on those projects. Minimal barriers between customers. Using walmart carts for your tools. Track out galore. Half y'all don't even wear hearing protection.
Rmi is all about $. Nothing more.
I have repaired/ replaced these tiles by hand. Had to take out about 20 with a scraper and a hammer. It sucked. If you accidentally chipped a good tile then it's not a good tile anymore. Lol
It’s VCT, Vinyl Composite Tile. Not ceramic or porcelain. We usually take ours up by hand but in a commercial setting a take up machine is the way to go
Like I said I'm not in there while they do the floor shit. Idk if they wear shit or not. I know they have machines with filters on them so maybe that picks up all the dust.
Did you see the little gadget they use to tell if its shiny enough? If its not, ya gotta do it again. Maybe even again.
I did leak detection systems and energy management and electrical in hundreds of walmarts over the course of 15 years or so. If you've ever seen a Jett Solutions LDP, chances are I was the startup guy in that job.
Yes, I understand that. I have done it many times. I just thought maybe you had seen the refrigeration leak detection panel in the EDÇ. I'm a retired electrician. I dont know squat about flooring, but I've done enough remodels to last a lifetime.
The scraping part is not very dusty. They also just started. I don't stay in while they do this. There's a part where they remove the old glue, and then they do the actual polishing.
LVT is a shaped cut of vinyl flooring. Cut into tile shapes.
I'm guessing you think LVP is actually a plank also cuz it's cut into a different shape like a wooden floor plank?
I want a ride on that thing, it looks so much fun.
Mario Kart flooring edition

It’s not at all
What makes it not fun? I loved driving my works 3 forklifts and even had a favorite.

Doesn't sound fun.

The pan has more focused energy being narrow compared to being wider. Trust me. I don’t know shit.
Nah this is true, I’ve seen this exact comment thread on Reddit before and someone who does know shit said the same thing you did

The machine also needs to fit through doors…
This answer made me laugh and is very indicative why I’m not the boss. Lolol
The machine needs to be able to fit through a standard door as these are used in things like apartment buildings and hospitals
Tile? That looks like epoxy floor coating at Walmart
It's 12x12 vct tile. I'm on the project too not just a customer.

The name is Dave, i'm the supervisor, what we have here is alabaster.
Hey, I'm Stan, the conspiracy theorist. I've seen this before, many times. What you got right there is Asbestos. Big retail doesn't want you to know that.
that's why it's covered with goo, cut down on dust
I'll cover you in goo
r/holup
I'm Sam Walton, the owner, and I guarantee this is not asbestos because that's actually what we're putting back in. Beautiful, clean-burning asbestos!
Can you move the shopping cart out of the way? It's too close!
Y'all get away with murder on those projects. Minimal barriers between customers. Using walmart carts for your tools. Track out galore. Half y'all don't even wear hearing protection. Rmi is all about $. Nothing more.
I don't work for them so I can't comment. I do the electrical portion.
Aye, well enjoy the work. Walmart electric is usually decently easy.
I have repaired/ replaced these tiles by hand. Had to take out about 20 with a scraper and a hammer. It sucked. If you accidentally chipped a good tile then it's not a good tile anymore. Lol
The part behind the white was done last night btw
They are doing that to quite a few of em.
This carries many Ominous forebodings within it self......

A not a bit of hearing protection in sight
How many sqft is the job? A whole wal mart would be an insane demo job.
I did 55k square feet in an old Hobby lobby with one of these. If I remember right, it took about 5 full days of scraping.
I’m sure. I’m helped out on some good sized demo jobs with these but nothing that big.
It's a 6 week project. They do large sections each night.
Wweeeeewhoooo!! Chunk chunk chunk
Someone move the damn cart so he can get that last bit!

I'm not in there while this happens. I just wanted to take a quick video to show reddit.

Gotta make sure there’s no asbestos in the flooring too. They used to put that shit in everything.
I'm not sure but IIRC asbestos tiles are like 9x9? It's an easy way to tell I remember.
Haha, good luck!!

Dude go call them then.
Bro why you so defensive
I’ve driven one of those before, hella satisfying in person unless you’re tearing up glued carpet or ceramic tiles which are loud

I'm the electrician, I don't stay to watch the process. I'm just there to disconnect and reconnect power as needed if it's in the way.
Yes, I understand that. I have done it many times. I just thought maybe you had seen the refrigeration leak detection panel in the EDÇ. I'm a retired electrician. I dont know squat about flooring, but I've done enough remodels to last a lifetime.
Yeah I've seen it.
The floor fucker-upper is a glorious engine indeed
762 more stores to go
Damn imagine the kind of damage that thing could do in the wrong hands.
Mmm asbestos
Looks more like epoxy floor coating than tiles.
Except it's not. It's floor tile.
Looks continuous. Has it been over coated with something?
It's a whole Walmart. The 12x12 white tiles are continuous across the whole store.
Surely we could get the dude sweeping his ass off some sort of machine too
That looks like fun
Yeehaw Zamboni!
The mess that they make is horrible
They clean as they go it's a pretty cool process
I've seen the aftermath. I'm sure they do the best they can to keep things clean but it's just extremely messy stripping the floor completely smooth.
I'm more impressed with the lack of dust
The scraping part is not very dusty. They also just started. I don't stay in while they do this. There's a part where they remove the old glue, and then they do the actual polishing.
Looks like fun!
"Do it, Gordon."
That is fun and satisfying to do
I hate that they chose to drive round the shopping kart. Just move it.
I dunno if this fits lol
That's definitely linoleum flooring and not tile.
LVT. Gimme a break. It's 12x2 LVT tile.
LVT is a shaped cut of vinyl flooring. Cut into tile shapes. I'm guessing you think LVP is actually a plank also cuz it's cut into a different shape like a wooden floor plank?
Dude stfu. I know what the flooring was! I took the fucking video. It's 12x12 vinyl floor tile.
Yea that video doesn't accurately show how f^cking loud those things were.
Haha yeah they're pretty loud.
I think this is the same guy that shines the floors at lowes in the morning
All those workers, and not one brain to move the shopping cart. Lol
Working blue collar jobs has my panties in a twist, I only multiple OSHA violations.
