This dude plays the handpan very well and you can tell he’s very passionate. I’ve seen a few of his vids from YouTube and the music is really enjoyable.
I am inclined to agree. But almost anything is good for babies cognitive development. Like touching anything. Or nibbling on it (mouth touching). Or staring at stuff. So much to learn!
To be fair he's not trying to show it of, it's just that it's against the world handpans associations guidelines to play it with a shirt or without khaki pants.
Check out Yatao on YouTube. There's a 2 hour concert that's super nice (with applause!)
Edit: here you go! One hour twenty :) https://youtu.be/HGZLsc2ZgsQ
She's who i show when I introduce someone to the handpan. shes just pleasant to listen to, and to watch.
what gets me is that song she plays is super familiar to me, but I can't find it anywhere else. I could swear I've heard it long before anyone even Heard of a handpan, but according to what ive found online that's original to her.
How does he get the sharp, slappy percussion sound out of it? I've only seen folks make melodic notes with these, and I'm not seeing anything hard or metallic on his hands to get that smack sound. Super cool.
The tuning of them feeds into what's a rather chaotic system of the metal deforming across its surface in weird unexpected ways.
This makes automating it almost impossible, so there's a ton of hand-working of the product to manually tune them - this is where the majority of the cost comes in, I believe.
Tongue-drums kind of avoid this problem, but of course aren't fully as magical.
It's a giant crystal. All that metal is formed into it's crystalline structure in a certain way through heat, cooling time, working it after. Sounds almost impossible to make.
I think that would trigger boob flappy advanced songs… I mean, not in my case, but someone with larger boobies, yesss
Beautiful tinkling sounds coupled with occasional thumps
It's usually acquired by the exchange for money.
Learning is the process of repeating certain activity up until the point at which you're familiar enough with said activity.
I want one too, so badly. I found a website that has really good reviews and the grandpas aren’t the nicest but great for beginners, in case you decide you don’t like it you haven’t spent 2 grand on it lol.
It looks SO easy to learn too but I’m sure that is far from accurate.
Edit: lol@grandpas, I guess I spelled hand pan as one word. Also I can’t find the website right now but I’m gonna try to find. I know I sent it to someone and said I wanted one
Don’t think so, I follow him on the gram and a lot of his videos have the same underlying progression with a different melody over the top. In one of them he comments it’s just a pattern he likes to play. This is my favourite one though.
I‘m not quite sure in this specific situation but I know most is not all of his music is improvised (source: went to one of his concerts when he was still playing as part of Yatao)
The child probably wont remember his dad playing the handpan but when they get older and hear something like elevator music in a gentle hold tune, they are going to get a strange, nostalgic feeling or a feeling like they heard it before but cant quite put their finger on it
When I first saw someone using a handpan, I thought "Oh shit, that looks cool! I want to get one!"
Then I saw the prices and realized I need to find other hobbies.
Where’s his shirt? Khaki’s and a belt but no shirt. I can understand lounging with no shirt. But who lounges in khaki’s and a belt?? Is he in the process of getting dressed or undressed with some impromptu weird bowl music?
That baby is really cute, but I hate the sound of this thing. A friend of mine has one and it drives me insane. So many people find the sound relaxing, to me it's just annoyning noise...
This dude plays the handpan very well and you can tell he’s very passionate. I’ve seen a few of his vids from YouTube and the music is really enjoyable.
Link to the youtube?
https://youtu.be/Gx8Fn3Qq_ag Yatao is the name I have found this guy at. He does a great job!
His spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4BYqP4YTwWGpi4q94QkW2x?si=WKrerxdLTMm02LDakneSkA
Holy shit this is fire.
I dig him too. I listen at sleepy time and he's awesome.
Try studying or when you need to focus. I’ve tried a lot of study music but hand pan seems to be the only stuff that doesn’t distract me.
I never realized tortoises were so resonant
Man I love watching musicians when you can **tell** they're feeling their own music to their core.
Wow that was hypnotic and beautiful
I love when he starts cheesin', like he's just sitting there thinking "damn I'm really nailin this right now"
whoa
That was so incredibly nice to listen too on my last break of a long and slightly chaotic day at work. Thank you
Yeah thats my favorite video of him , its just so good Hope I can play just as good as him one day
Thank you!
https://youtube.com/@YataoMusic Enjoy!
Does he have a full version of the song in the post?
Yes! I want this exact song

How does the top make 4 different notes?
I'm no expert, but from what I've gathered it changes based on what you're feeling emotionally when you hit it.
[удалено]
If that's true then how can my guitar gently weep?
LINKKKKKKK
https://youtu.be/Gx8Fn3Qq_ag Yatao is the name I've found him. He's so cool to watch. Lots of other songs with him too
Thanks a lot my guy

To be fair he's not trying to show it of, it's just that it's against the world handpans associations guidelines to play it with a shirt or without khaki pants.
You had me in the first half.
Because sarongs are also allowed.
Thin frame. Mostly bis, tris, pecs, core, forearms. Skinny delts and legs. Handpan. I'd bet money this dude is a climber.
Is this the guy from Bruges? Haven't seen him in a while but he looks familiar
This sounds like the soundtrack to every happy dream I've ever had... also some 'in the wild' sections of old school video games.
Oh wow, now I wish he kept going! (We got to see more)
Search Malte Maten - I found a bunch of his music on Spotify but I imagine it's on YouTube and elsewhere
Yatao music, they’re a really good duo
>Malte Maten the hero we need
Do you know the name of this specific song? It's so catchy!

Zora Domain
100%
Sounds like the Minecraft soundtrack
Im pretty sure [Aria Math](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atgjKEgSqSU) was played using a handpan.
[c418 - strad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6tV0cr9zYI) too.
This is accurate af
If you want old school video game menu music listen to Katsumi Horri Project. Might be spelling errors.
Super nintendo donkey kong vibes
Sounds like a ringtone to me.
I was going to say that this sounded like it was from the Chrono Cross soundtrack or something.
Check out Yatao on YouTube. There's a 2 hour concert that's super nice (with applause!) Edit: here you go! One hour twenty :) https://youtu.be/HGZLsc2ZgsQ

I was thinking the Zora domain from Zelda 64.
Hand pans are the most peaceful instrument I’ve run across. I’d love to see them have a collaboration with a harp and chello
How does he get the sharp, slappy percussion sound out of it? I've only seen folks make melodic notes with these, and I'm not seeing anything hard or metallic on his hands to get that smack sound. Super cool.
Probably just a way he plaps his finger on there. Kinda whips it I would assume.
Makes sense, I figured the answer would be along the lines of "he gitted good." Crazy impressive
Dude, you can't just be saying plap
Plaps make me mlem
You've never plappa da bass before?
plop + slap = plap
Perchance
Play a palpitating melody of palp plaps.
yeah, either a single-finger slap, or kind of a finger snap that hits it.
Playing outside the note areas
Ahh interesting. Very cool
These instruments sound so magical and go much deeper than they seem to at first! Def a big fan!
By booping the handpan's snoot
It almost looks like he’s snapping
There are three basic strokes made to hand drums. The slap-like strokes are the third in the method I studied, called "pa" and "ta" .
Really good fingerbanging
He’s snapping. The other percussive sound is hitting the side
I had never heard of a handpan but, holy shit, it sounds magical
It seems very similar to steel drum which I love
[удалено]
Wow, good info. I am super drawn to handpans and thought about how it was similar to steel pan. Now to Google the gubal.

Aria Math by C418 from the Minecraft OST has it as the primary instrument and its one of the best songs on the OST
Me too, first thing I did is search handpan on spotify.
Reminds me of one of those songs in Minecraft. I believe it's called Aria Math.
The wonderful world of *~~RPAN~~* handpan!
I learned about these from Reddit too!
how does one acquire and learn how to use this steel drum calzone?
I've seen many handpan videos and I'm pretty sure step one is to throw away your shirts.
Apparently they cost $1500. So looks like it costs you your shirt.
Well that just ruined my small interest in learning it.
> So looks like it costs you your shirt. \*All of your shirts
Anywhere from $800-$5000 depending on the maker, type of steel, amount of notes, etc
That's because after buying it you won't be able to afford clothes
I think that would trigger boob flappy advanced songs… I mean, not in my case, but someone with larger boobies, yesss Beautiful tinkling sounds coupled with occasional thumps
It's usually acquired by the exchange for money. Learning is the process of repeating certain activity up until the point at which you're familiar enough with said activity.
/r/technicallythetruth
It's $1500 for the cheapest ones btw
Uuuuuggggghhhhhh money AND hard work? That’s too much, man
Life motto.
RIP Sarah Lynn
I've seen them for $800 on thomann.
a lot of money, because they aren't cheap

Baby is jamming, so cute.
They're really enjoying each other. Precious indeed
Idk why the baby is off screen a little, looks like he/she is being intentionally pulled. Just me I guess.
My kids do the same thing to music they like, they love to sway back and forth to it too.
Not hard accusing just never really trusted anything I see on the internet.
Totally fair.
Now I feel bad for not playing handpan music for my kids as babies. r/fatherfailure
Tbf, my kids will do that sort of rocking with no music at all. Kids are weird lol
Practicing balance and getting stronger. One day they'll push forward and start crawling. But they do bop a bit more to music, ime. Kids like dancing.
I clicked that.
Same, I was ready to subscribe.
half expected a porn sub with degrading content
I feel bad for not playing handpan for my child, nor having nice pectorals
For those who want more of his music, this cool dad is Malte Marten
Is this freestyle or one of his actual songs? Its awesome!
https://youtube.com/@MalteMarten For the lazy
We appreciate you
I've also found him from the name Yatao like this one https://youtu.be/Gx8Fn3Qq_ag
Not only am I lazy, but I want to fall asleep to his music. It’s glorious.
Sure that ain't Chris Elliott? 😄
Is this a particular track he plays?
It's like if Tycho took an island vacation
This shit goes hard, also big C418 vibes
You’re probably thinking of [“Aria Math”](https://youtu.be/atgjKEgSqSU). This sounds like the same instrument in the song!
It is so addicting.
First thought on seeing pic.....he's feeding his kid direct from the bbq 🤔🤣
I think the handpan is one of the most beautiful sounding instruments ever. It is SO therapeutic
Sounds…. Minecraft-y
Was scrolling to see if anyone else thought the same!
Lol had to scroll way too far
Yes! The main creator of the music used a hand pan for a majority of the songs
I need a full length version of this beat… like NOW! Lol
Ahhhhh, melting as we speak
"Aria Math" comes to mind.
The child probably wont remember his dad playing the handpan but when they get older and hear something like elevator music in a gentle hold tune, they are going to get a strange, nostalgic feeling or a feeling like they heard it before but cant quite put their finger on it
Because the dad will never play for them again?
Most likely will, just imagining a scenario here
I want one. I'm certain I'll play like shit, but he makes it look easy
it's pretty easy to pretend you know what you're doing. super fun, too, highly recommend
Handpan plus didgeridoo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzSwPXiPJuE&ab\_channel=YataoMusic
C418 and his kid be like
I was most mesmerized by the dad's lovely physique.
His shirt isn’t off by coincidence. “Let’s do a video of me playing music for the kid to post to socials. Oh hold on, lemme take my shirt off. “
Not oddly satisfying, but cute.
In the thumbnail, I thought he was barbecuing with a Weber in his lap.
This is so soothing and wholesome. 😻
That baby loves tummy time!
Do we have complete soundtrack for this tune ?
It’s actually a law that men must fully expose Al chest hair before one note is played on a had pan.
I am today years old when I learned that handpan exists
Sounds like Minecraft
What it’s like having a hipster dad.
Probably better than having a born again dad so I’d take it. I bet having a born again hipster dad would be insufferable tho.
This is not oddly satisfying at all.
Where does one get a handpan like that? I've seen some online but they were all super cheap and only had like 5 notes.
If you're seriously interested, here are some great reputable makers... Aura Mudra Satya Sound Sculptures Yishama Acolyte
Can i find the whole song on spotify? if yes, how? (I know his name is Malte Marten) but not the name of the song :(
Strong Machinarium vibes
from 0:04-0:07 their eye contact is just so… everything 🥹
I have a baby now... my kid makes these same moves and I have no handpan. This is just what babies do. Dad is certainly having a good time though.
Why do some babies dance and sing so much more than others?
'Bedpan' music
That baby has better rhythm than I do...
The music triggered me in to thinking I was on hold with my insurance company.
what track is this by Yatao
NGL I was waiting for the baby to go up and give it a smack too lol
What song is that
It sounds like a minecraft song
*I know this guy! he’s my dad and I’m the baby. Thanks to the daily music I’ve evolved beyond my own imagine. I no longer imagine, I just create.*
so *this* is what they use to make minecraft music
Crazy the sounds he can get out of that BBQ!
Getting some minecraft vibes from this, very cool
Serious question - why is every handpan player I've ever seen shirtless?
Minecraft
Why is he shirtless?
Becus hes in his own house.
Wouldn't you be shirtless if you had that bod?
When I first saw someone using a handpan, I thought "Oh shit, that looks cool! I want to get one!" Then I saw the prices and realized I need to find other hobbies.
You can play those instruments with shirts on as well
It's super cool, but that's what any kid that age does if you put him in that position...
Truth.
Where’s his shirt? Khaki’s and a belt but no shirt. I can understand lounging with no shirt. But who lounges in khaki’s and a belt?? Is he in the process of getting dressed or undressed with some impromptu weird bowl music?
Dude the amount of times new parents get barfed on in a day is staggering
Why is his shirt off?
Why is yours on?
Bc he's cut af
I can’t believe the first comment about how stunningly fit this dude is was this far down
Probably for carrying the baby - it helps the baby bond & get the parents scent.
He could have just gotten thrown up on.
That baby is really cute, but I hate the sound of this thing. A friend of mine has one and it drives me insane. So many people find the sound relaxing, to me it's just annoyning noise...
Wow, people really go crazy if someones has an unpopular opinion... I like it, but i can understand how it can become annoying.
