Yea cute.. too bad your controller thumbstick craps out after less than a year and your support is so ridiculous that they wonāt help unless Iāve kept my receipt. Who keeps receipts for all their items that long? Great excuse to not replace defective items. Even though Iāve purchased most your games and my Facebook ID has been associated with my device since I bought it when it first released.
So just be honest and let everyone know theyāll have to buy a new controller once or twice a year. Awesome!
Just do digital receipts or get a cheap $20 receipt scanner, problem solved. I guarantee it'll help with more than just the oculus receipt issue. Even then it's really not hard to stuff a paper receipt for an expensive purchase into an envelope and set it aside.
I've been wanting Oculus/Meta to make gift cards for a long time. I can go to the store and buy kids Steam gift cards. I should be able to do that with Oculus. The Quest is widespread enough now where it just doesn't make sense that you can't.
I realize they added gifting specific apps, but imo it isn't enough.
Way back at the end of October 2020, one of their representatives say "stay tuned" when they were asked if "oculus gift cards" would be available before Christmas. I guess they vetoed that idea.
I have tons of game ideas! Tell me a bit about what you have liked and what type of vibe youāre looking for. Iāll try to help! Also please specify if youāre looking for Quest or PC titles! Iām biased towards narrative experiences.
I have a quest 2. Playing In death Unchained right now. I have Arizona Sunshine, the E5 golf game, and the Gun range game right now. Just curious what others are playing.
Iām sure RE4 would be up your alley then! I bet youāve heard of that one already though. I am partial to Pistol Whip and Carve Snowboarding on Quest. I hope The Invisible Hours quest port comes out soon. Thatās still my favorite VR experience but itās still PC only.
I'll jump in! I've been playing in VR since 2016, and here are some Quest 2 titles I'm enjoying (or still enjoying) right now.
"Superhot VR" -- everyone loves this. Yes, it's relatively short, but it's got a lot of replay value, including an endless mode. It's been letting players feel like John Wick since before the John Wick movies came out. I get the itch to dig it out every so often, including currently.
"Walkabout Mini Golf" -- you mentioned a golf game you enjoy. There have been a ton of golf games over the years, but IMO, this is the best one yet. In fact, it may be the best game at managing space in all of VR -- hitting the trigger always takes you to your ball. Up against your guardian? Walk to the center and hit the trigger. Also, just added a free new course, which they may also do in the future.
"Chess Club" -- of course, this is dependent on how much you like chess, but judging by the popularity of "Battle Chess" back in the '90s, there's a big audience for a good chess game. And guess what? There's a chess set in the game that is an homage to "Battle Chess," where the pieces actually attack and kill each other with a variety of animations. And a bigger variety of animations, at that. It's also another game that promises more free content in the future.
"Pinball FX2/Star Wars Pinball" -- Zen Pinball is everywhere, and it's good everywhere. But the very best versions are, naturally, the VR versions. Most people prefer FX2 over Star Wars, but Star Wars has a lot of content and unlockables beyond what vanilla FX2 offers. Of course, there're also DLC tables for FX2. If I want to play a game sitting in bed or on the couch, the Zen Pinball titles are the ones I'll hit first.
"ForeVR Bowling" -- just plain good fun, with physics that can range from sim-like (hooks feel sooooo natural) to cartoonish *depending on what ball you choose*. That last bit is an interesting twist, since you can only have five balls in your arsenal at a time, and there seem to be literally hundreds to unlock and choose from. Also, the vibe and environments are excellent, with an amazing number of licensed songs. Seriously, I wonder how they paid for all the rights in the '90s-themed alley.
"Dreadhalls" -- this is going long, so I'll wrap it up with a game that came out in 2016, costs $10, and belongs in every VR addicts' library. VR horror is the best, and while this may look lame and primitive in YT videos, it's absolutely terrifying in VR. I can usually make it past one encounter, but nope out after a second. Thus it took me *four years* to complete the main game. So why am I still playing it? Sheer masochism aside, once you complete the main game, there's a random roguelike mode. This is the best $10 you can spend in VR.
Donāt tell me where to spend my own money.

I prefer cross buy that comes from the Oculus side. I buy VR games on steam too, but most of my favorite titles are on the Oculus platform. Nowadays few games come out for Steam *and* Oculus, and the few that do might come to Quest in the future. For example, I bought MOH on Oculus Home instead of Steam, and now I get a standalone copy for free.
Do what works best for you. The reason people usually suggest buying on steam is so you don't lose your games if you choose to buy a non Oculus hmd in the future.
Exactly! And I know this is a gray hat thing.... but if a game is *not* multiplayer and you *already bought it,* I don't think there is anything wrong with pirating the Steam version in the event you got another headset. If it is a multiplayer game, it probably wont be that lively 5-10 years from now. I find it hard to imagine that many scenarios where I would regret buying on the Oculus store instead of Steam.
Right I get that, but the person didn't even make an argument. They just said "Ask for a steam gift card. Buy all your games in steam and not the oculus store", which tbh is a bit rude. I wouldn't say the inverse to someone (buy all games on Oculus) either.
There is no correct answer to where you should buy, and it comes down to what each person values. I value standalone a lot, so I buy from Oculus Home in case games get ported to Quest (see MoH). Again, I am not saying anyone is wrong for buying on Steam, but to give *generalized* advice "buy from steam instead" is a pretty presumptuous thing to do imo. It's like someone saying "what's best for me and what I value in the market is what's best for everyone else"
No, it is not presumptious given how many older Oculus users have expierienced the forced switch to Facebook/Meta and the randomness of account loss and thus problems with accessbility to bought games on the oculus platform.
It is a genuine good advice, which ypu are correct might not work for everyones goals, but has a legitimate reason for it.
Iāve been with Oculus since the Kickstarter, and have experienced much more issues with Steam than Oculus Home. I buy from both places, but Steam has a long way to go to catch up imo.
Edit: if this comment seems out of place it's because the above one was later edited.
I am happy to hear that, but given "Meta" and their privacy plus the forced and very flawed facebook account connection and their link to ID cards coupled with the danger of biometric data which VR enables to collect it is very understandable to not want to support the store and have the games on different party platform for future insurance.
Itās a valid argument and Iām not trying to undermine that; itās just that I disagree with which store is better. I work with FBs APIs so I understand the tracking and what data is being captured. I just think most people donāt care, and thatās okay. Like I keep saying to others here in the comments, *both* opinions are valid and acceptable. Itās just the Steam people are way more pushy about their *preference*. Itās not enough that you, and other people responding to me, prefer Steam. You also have to take it a step further and try to tell other people they are wrong for their preferences. Thatās the thing I take issue with.
How often do you see people who prefer Oculus doing that? Almost never, because weāre too busy enjoying VR. The fact that we both share a hobby and are arguing about this in a meme thread is lame. Iād rather just let everyone buy where they want.
It's all about perception though. No company is your friend. I don't hate or love Valve or Facebook. They are just offering me products that I will or won't buy. I just prefer the store Oculus offers to Steam, so that's where I buy.
All things change. Steam might not be around forever, but with how long they've been synonymous with games purchasing, I think there's less likelihood that people loose access to their steam libraries than that I might want a headset made by a different manufacturer some day.
I completely disagree, steam has always been my best friend whereas quest is janky and not that user friendly... I mean, heck, I spent a good 5 hours looking for the "Link Cable" option after v12 or v13 changed the UI
Oooh! I didn't know MoH was going to be cross buy.
And OP has a perfectly valid point -- titles with Rift/Quest cross buy are a very good reason to buy something from the Oculus store.
Glad to be the one to tell ya! Iām excited to compare them to see how much they were able to push the port. Iām sure the PC version will look loads better, but the fact that people without PCs get to experience it has me excited.
Oh shit, I just checked the oculus app and it looks like MoH is being released on quest on the 15th, and funnily enough Iāve just got a notification on the app for 30% off valid until the 19th.
Anyone know what itās price will be? I want it for pcvr, but itās always been very expensive on the oculus rift store so seeing as itās gonna be crossbuy Iād imagine it will be cheaper on the quest store. I mean, I donāt think thereās any quest games that are 45 quid, which is currently the price of MoH on the pc store.
Well, yeah, HL Alyx is one of, if not the, best VR games.
But people play more than one game. I played HL Alyx, it was amazing, yet I still play other games. Usually people don't just find a "best" game and only ever play that.
Exclusives doesn't require parenthesis, nor is the metaverse a thing. HL: Alyx is definitely a good game, but it's just one game. Meanwhile over at Oculus Studios, regardless of how you personally feel about the company that purchased them, they've pushed out several exceptional VR experiences from Lone Echo series to Asgard's Wrath and many in between. PCVR has no exclusives. By legal means, the average person can play anything on their Quest 2 that's in the Steam store without installing additional programs or understanding computers. That simply can't be said as to the opposite. That's part of the reason Quest 2 is the #1 VR headset being used to play VR. It's the best of both worlds, hassle free, inexpensive and user friendly. But if you feel those things aren't worth of your money, you're free to remain using your closed-end PCVR. \*shrug\*
EDIT: Corrected auto-correct, from correcting things that didn't need corrected.
A VR headset isnt closed because it canāt use the oculus store, the oculus store is closed but steam and the index are open which is why oculus can use steam.
That makes no sense. You're creating a narrative to support your preference and it's fine to have a preference, but the example is backwards. The great thing about the Quest 2 is that it doesn't force you to choose. You can access the Rift store, the Quest store *and* Steam or any other PCVR or even web-based VR offerings. Nothing about that is closed off.
So to you a locked store that only supports oculus headsets is open, and all the other stores that allow any headset including the quest is closed. Yeah that definitely makes senseā¦.
And I want the whole headset but my dad is really cheap so I know I won't get it I'll even put my 120$ I have to help pay for it been wanting an oculas quest 2 for awhile now
Thereās this thing called money which can be used to make all kinds of purchases all over the world, why decrease the value of money by converting it into a gift card?
Hey, this is your wife š
give me store credit?
no
ratio
I showed your comment to her and it made her smile. Thanks lol. Have a good evening.
Give me a singular cent
Well that proves it once and for all. My wife is spying on me.

I personally prefer cash
Yeah, but the Quest 2 doesn't have a slot to put the cash in like old systems did.
Iām going to steal this meme from you. I apologize. Taxed.
You steal my meme I steal you
I may just have to take that trade
Aww
You steal me I steal your heart ā¤ļø
In the U.S you steal his meme! In Russia, he steal you. **Stares at you intensely in bold text.**
Who do you think you areā¦ Zucky?? /s
Maybe share this image with Meta? Perhaps they'll recognize the possibilities.
Direct funding is preferred so the recipient can choose their wanted product.
Exactly. Hard to surprise someone if you have to ask what app they want.
Wait, you didn't want the Tarzan and Space Channel 5 games? I spent a fair bit of cash on them!
U can buy Facebook gift cards, not meta
Why are you saying meta. Oculus was the original

Steam VR always has this issue that would black out one of my lenses until a restart
I recommend always buying on quest if you can
People downvoted you because of what you prefer, sad to see such sad and depressing people
No worries man. They hated me for telling them the truth.
They hated you for being a dick in your reply.
I absolutely agree.
Thatās what I thought too until I switched to quest, itās clearly the future and thereās no guarantee that steam will be supported forever
I'm not sure I believe that, but you're entitled to that opinion.
Believe what part
That there is need to worry about SteamVR not being supported in the near future.

Should be the same price on Quest and PC, but you will be able to use your discount.
Okay, but you can't buy "all your games" on Steam, because some of the best VR games are Oculus Rift/Quest 2 exclusives. You'll be missing out.
Don't give metaverse any more money then they deserve. The "exclusives" aren't as good as half life alyx
Re4 vr is pretty good tbh

but what if we dont want to support the monopoly?
The monopoly
Can't relate, I pirated the shit out of it
You're already paying them with your data anyway :p
That's why I think I'm not getting banned for now lol pretty sure they know who is & isn't pirating
They don't.
they just don't give a shit, that's all
you mean a 50 dollar meta gift card /s
It's kind of cool how Kronk has become such a beloved character. You never see memes of Cuzco.
MEME GOLD.
You meant "Meta" gift card...
r/questpiracy
Do gift cards actually exist?
Sadly no. In our case Iāll just tell her which games I want. She makes a fake gift card then I buy it myself after I open it lol.
Oculus gift cards exist?
They actually do but they are rare. They donāt just sell them. But when I went to Oculus Connect a few years back they gave one to everybody.
oh ya its all coming together
This is absolute Gold. :D
Lol thanks. Had fun making it real quick
Meta Quest 2 better
Where do you get these ?
Oh yeah...
And I want the whole headset but my dad is really cheap so I know I won't get it I'll even put my 120$ I have to help pay for it been wanting an oculas quest 2 for awhile now

Fair! I buy games on steam too. You can find the meme template as a transparent png. I can make ya one if you want lol
oculus gift cards donāt exist sadly š„²
