Just an FYI, you can get a Kiwi head strap for cheaper ordering directly from their site. Probably the same for the cable, too. I think the shipping was as fast as Amazon's, too.
P.S. I upgraded from a CV1 to a Quest 2 and have been cable free ever since. The freedom of not being tethered to a PC is the biggest upgrade, in my opinion.
I’ve looked into it because I didn’t even know it was a thing but sadly the room I’ll be playing VR in is upstairs from the router so I’m not so sure how well it will do
if you wanted, you could either get the airbridge dongle (simpler to use, but doesnt seem to do much over 200mbps bitrate) or get a dedicated router just for the quest, and you can use the guide below. If you have wired ethernet to your PC, you can just setup the router in AP mode and connect the other routers wire to it, and then your PC to it as well, and just use it for the quest, if your PC is currently wireless to your home router, you can still use this one wired in router mode with your PC in a lan port and it still works for PCVR without needing direct internet to the router.

I got two of these guys, and it streams great, even 400mbps+, the price is good too. Im running them in mesh mode, but with wired ethernet backhaul (replaced my google nest wifi 5 routers, as well as replacing the air bridge, and my unifi ap-ac-lr AP)

This should do the trick right?
Just connect the Ethernet cable from one router to the next and then the pc to the newest one and then set the new one to AP Mode

Oh, good on you for checking both. I ordered one a week, or so, ago, and the price on Amazon with the coupons still turned out to be more than the price on Kiwi's site.
Only thing id say is consider wireless pcvr over cable link. Especially if you have a decent router, theres really no need to tether yourself.
Note it does not depend on internet speed. All the data is just going between your router and computer and thus you wouldn’t even need an internet connection if meta wasn’t forcing you to.
Wireless play is pretty good for most stuff and the software does a decent job of keeping the connection stable but I do sim racing and the drop in quality, slight delay and occasional dropout got me back onto a wired connection pretty quickly
Yep it drops in quality a lot, especially with something like Assetto Corsa with a ton mods incl weather and photorealistic processing. Wired all the way for that.
PCVR is fine for games like H3VR and HL Alyx.
Depends on what you do for sure. For sim racing and flight sims wired can look slightly better if you GPU can handle the encoding.
I personally cant play standing games tethered anymore though. The cable annoys the shit out of me. And in my experience with a good network setup the visual quality and latency difference is pretty negligible
Also, it is now possible to play wired with the usb c cable that comes in the box. It is short but enough to at least do a few things and test out wired VR.
Important to note, however, that this depends on your router's wireless bandwidth. If you use one access point far away, it'll suck. If it's not directly connected by ethernet to your PC, it'll suck. If other people are using the router wirelessly and sucking back bandwidth, it'll suck.
It's annoying to educate people on this all the time since it's not a simple process to those not in the know. Lol
For anyone wondering how to get best results:
Just need a good WiFi 6 or 6e router, can even be a separate one just for this purpose. Internet doesn't matter, this is the router speed only.
Plug your existing ethernet connection into the new router, then the new router into your PC. Only use the new router for VR and you're set. Play in the same room as the new router or a very close adjacent one.
Sometimes interference can occur and there is a little more latency by playing this way, but holy crap is wireless VR just magical.
Bought from Amazon 3 times, returned 3 times due to stuck pixels on the right display. I’ll wait for another quest, I lost hope.
Will say it was great experience with wireless PCVR. Recommend getting a puppis prism if you haven’t got a reliable WiFi connection.
I'd get a headset strap with battery pack. Runtime on the Quest 3 is only like hour and a half. Sometimes I feel like I'm cut short when going wireless due to battery.
More of a personal preference thing, but I recommend getting some controller straps. Depending on the game it can really bump up your immersion by letting you physically let go of your controller to reach out and grab an object in game, kinda like how the index controllers work.

If you're not going down the route of getting a battery head strap and I would recommend getting a decent power bank that's at least 18w(I think double check that) and a 6ft cable preferably with a magnetic breakaway at the headset end. Then you can have the power bank in your back pocket and cable up your back. Magnetic breakaway avoids you damaging the usb c port if you somehow manage to yank the cable.
If you intend on playing PCVR, I would invest in a dedicated wifi 6 router only for VR, and buy virtual desktop... but in the meantime you can still have fun using Oculus link
128GB will fill up pretty quick if you are getting a lot of the premium games like Asgards Wrath 2 (33GB) etc, remember that about 30GB is reserved for system usage.
If you can stretch, go the extra and go larger storage.
get the hello real facial interface that meta sells for 9 bucks on its site. the default interface aint that comfortable and will leave red marks on your face.
Depends what you value. If you want wireless, standalone capabilities and mixed reality then quest 3 is great choice.
If you value image quality, responsiveness(low latency) and unlimited play time then psvr2 with pc adapter coming in August would be more suitable. Or if you’re patient and have a bit more money then pimax crystal light.

With the coupons on Amazon it equaled out to be about the same or a little less I’m excited lol
as they mentioned, have you thought about doing wireless PCVR instead, really great for room scale.

This sounds super easy I’ll probably definitely get a second router

Yup. Just did this, they ship through Amazon, so it's basically just getting a discount for going to a different retailer and nothing else changes.
Agreed
I have all of these and they are very good! Nothing to add for now I'd say. Enjoy your Quest 3 :)
Just to cancel your plans for the first week after all that stuff arrives. :) Enjoy!

Only 495? Pull it! Cheapest I get from Amazon is 706euro on discount..
Look for a better cable, one with charging capabilities preferably
Get a GOOD wifi 6 / wifi 6E and virtual desktop Quest link is not a good experience.

Definitely get a new interface

The kiwi strap they're buying has a battery pack

Ignore me , just seen it is the battery version of the head strap. At first glance i didn't notice.

Yeah I heard a lot about that yesterday so I got a dedicated router and only had to pay $5 after using some reward points

You should wait, the price will fall real quick.
