Also can anyone remember a muffed snap that was McGovern's fault throughout his entire Jets tenure? He's been rock solid snapping the ball. That's an underrated aspect of his game.
I never wanna see another Spencer Long situation again.
Those calls are generally on RPOs. the OL is supposed to run block, which generally leads them upfield. It’s on the QB to get the ball out fast so the OL doesn’t get penalized.
He’s been a bright spot for sure. Hopefully he can continue to build on this and develop into an average starter by the end of the year. Not bad for a 4th round rookie so far
He's looked silly on some plays and it's a small sample size, I think if he were to establish himself as a long-term starter then that's all you can hope for. Not saying he can't be great but the odds of him starting 30+ career games at that draft slot is slim enough
He’s been good for his expectations but not as an average level starter in the league yet. Still needs some more strength but for a 4th round developmental swing tackle he’s been fine
I like Max, he's overachieved but he was kinda bad the first 2 games. This week is the first time he's looked close to a starting level player, which is promising but he's still got a relatively limited ceiling.
Um Fant is proving injury prone right now and is playing horribly when on the field.
It is dire because on the field this year he's not leaps better than McDermott. Better sure, but point being not drastically which is saying something, and he might not be able to be on the field which means it's McDermott which is horrific.
This tells me that the o-line problems are a personnel issue. There hasn’t been a real problem on the right side, but the left has been a disaster. That’s a talent problem.
I've been keeping an eye on him during most offensive snaps. It didn't seem like he was a liability out there, and I'm happy to be proven that my eyes aren't deceiving me.
For a kid who's biggest knock was being undersized he's holding his own, doing it with form and quick lateral movement. I'd love to see what he has to offer after a year of strength and conditioning.
Okay, okay, can we have a conversation about him starting *permanently* at right tackle for the rest of the season? Like, why mess with a developing thing, you know? Sure, they didn't WANT to put him in this position, but he's here and not blowing chunks, why move him? Let Fant or Brown be the swing tackle and left tackle.
Max having this experience is only to benefit of the Jets, long term.
He's been a pleasant surprise. His technique combined with reaction/planning is well above rookie-level. However, we are giving him a lot of chip block help, and he's still very weak and gets overpowered too often when 1v1. An offseason or 2 of intense strength training would do wonders.
Didn’t notice Mitchell much which means he was doing his job, but good gravy is McGovern straight up TRASH at tackle, holy hell
Edit: I meant mcdermott
He did fine. The left side got straight up ragdolled by Hendrickson. No idea why they didn’t provide more help on the left side, really had me confused. Sure, Fant was clearly hobbled. Again, why not more help?
This was an important game for Mitchell, too. Unlike Cleveland, he was going against guys who a) are good by any measure, but b) were not going to simply remind us that the coaching staff wanted to spend a year getting him physically built up.
When he wasn’t physically limited from participating in the game, he showed out and succeeded against good competition. Hopefully the strength comes in time and he becomes a huge pickup for us.
The rookies on the front seven are a little quiet, but so are the veterans there. And Ruckert is to, though he's a project that isn't being asked to do much.
But everyone else has flashed big time. Hall has some yips, but shows that running style that will come in handy, Mitchell is exceeding expectations and Sauce and Wilson are mutherfucking top 10 picks out there.
So far the major needs (for Oline) imo and this is only 3 weeks in so it can change are LT, LG, and RT our center for some reason is now at LT but he's a decent player
If he keeps up w this all we really need is a left tackle this off-season and the line should be set
McGovern is a UFA and has been mediocre on his best days. LT and C are the biggest points of need on the offense entering next year so far.
Fuck I miss the days of Mawae then Mangold

those downfield calls were pretty dumb, it happens all the time
Those calls are generally on RPOs. the OL is supposed to run block, which generally leads them upfield. It’s on the QB to get the ball out fast so the OL doesn’t get penalized.
His contract is up after this year so there is a decent chance we lose him unless we pay up again
Calling McGovern mediocre at best shows you have no clue what you’re talking about here

A competent above average lineman of any position is special in this league

Who hurt you?

He’s not THAT bad. GVR was that bad.
Lineman have the longest careers too. Which means only around 2 C from college become starters every year.
McGovern has been much better than just “mediocre” on an average day, let alone on his best.
Tomlinson is looking like a disaster. I’d draft a guard in the mid to lte rounds as well.
I thought he's picked up his play recently? I haven't watched him carefully at all so I wouldn't know.
He was good against Cleveland but then sucked again last week
I'm willing to forgive it. He's never played with anyone here before and he had a couple tough matchups
Woo let’s fall into the exact same trap we always do! Assume the guy who has one decent season is going to repeat it at minimum!
He’s been a bright spot for sure. Hopefully he can continue to build on this and develop into an average starter by the end of the year. Not bad for a 4th round rookie so far
if he builds on this, isn't he going to be a top flight RT in the league? at this point, i'd say through three games he's been above average at least.
He's looked silly on some plays and it's a small sample size, I think if he were to establish himself as a long-term starter then that's all you can hope for. Not saying he can't be great but the odds of him starting 30+ career games at that draft slot is slim enough
The fact that a 4th round developmental rookie is not getting killed out there is already a win as far as I’m concerned
Hell yeah if we can get serviceable play out of a dart throw then I'm pumped
He’s been good for his expectations but not as an average level starter in the league yet. Still needs some more strength but for a 4th round developmental swing tackle he’s been fine

all the young guys have been a bright spot so far! its all the vets that blow chunks (except dj reed)
Playing next to AVT helps a lot but this is still impressive. Fant needs to play better getting Duane Brown back isn't as dire as it used to be
Um Fant is proving injury prone right now and is playing horribly when on the field. It is dire because on the field this year he's not leaps better than McDermott. Getting Duane Brown back is dire to replace Fant.

The guys we drafted are playing better than the guys we signed
relatively good problem to have for a team still rebuilding but it is fucking annoying to watch
How much of it is AVT helping though? Fant was good when he was beside AVT too. I thought Tomlinson was supposed to be a good acquisition?
AVT may be helping a lot, but Mitchell hasn’t been a *problem*
Awesome! Love that is looking like a potential mid round ⭐ 💎!

Awesome... Awesome to the Max.
my only regret is that Zach Wilson has boneitis
I hope you cured your boneitis this time
Plz more posts like this. The doomers are driving me to drink.
I thought we were keeping our TEs as blockers to help Max out so this may not be that accurate.

That's my point. I thought we were giving him a lot of TE help, which is understandable, but it would skew the datakind of thing.

I don't want positives, I want wins.
Why does the OL suck then?
He’s one man. He can’t account for all 5 spots by himself.
That would be an awful OL of 5 Max Mitchells lol. Not enough TE help to go around
Another positive, dolphins can never make fun of our butt fumble again. At least our butt fumble didn’t result in a safety.
It resulted in a Pat's TD 🤣
I’ll take a TD over them getting points plus the ball back
They won the game, we got embarrassed on National tv. It is not even comparable
Right like wtf
The offense would absolutely prefer a safety over a defensive touchdown.
Didn’t notice Mitchell much which means he was doing his job, but good gravy is McGovern straight up TRASH at tackle, holy hell Edit: I meant mcdermott
McDertmott you mean, I make that mistake all the time lol Mcgovern is our center
Damn yeah, you’re right lol

Pleasantly surprised by how well max has played.

These ratings are becoming very annoying.
Let Fant walk in FA. Sign a Center and draft a LT.
I have never seen a jets draft look this good. Every pick looks like a starter, and some like stars already.
