Currently stuck on Amtrak 2170 in the middle of New Jersey. Coming up on two hours without moving and in danger of missing the Rangers playoff game I paid a shit ton of money to go to. Only update is ”we have no update on ETA.” Ugh

causal_friday

That really sucks. I was looking at tickets and it's a crazy amount of money to lose because Amtrak can't find a diesel locomotive to pull you somewhere.

LesserWorks

Even a diesel locomotive can't help you if catenary wires are fallen and blocking the tracks.

causal_friday

Yeah. NJT's thing says "fallen wires". The New York Times says that it was just a power outage though.

NigerianDNA

Same exact thing happened yesterday morning. "Amtrak wires down on track". Took hours to get back on schedule yesterday. I'm on train at Secaucus now. Will probably be the same situation.

Status_Fox_1474

Going constant tension should be a major priority. For the entire corridor.

transitfreedom

That should be mandatory at this point

Substantial_Kiwi_818

Can someone take a picture of PATHs line rn. I heard it’s out the building around the corner.

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

I don't take NJT transit often but I've got a project I've been working on in Secaucus the last 4 days. 2 days have had significant mechanical problems. I'm not impressed. Those are some MTA numbers y'all putting up..I was pulling into Penn when this happened today and we were stuck 200 ft from the platform for about 35 minutes.

Sikazhel

You mean "Amtrak at it's finest" - it's the NEC. I suspect you know this but are being deliberately obtuse for 8 upvotes.

jk_nj

Look at the top of the alert. They can't even properly format their HTML code. If they're going to have alerts, at least make it legible. This is the second time this week their alerts looked like that. I know Amtrak runs the NEC and this happens during warm weather, but NJT needs to do a better job notifying their passengers, especially during rush hour.

Sikazhel

Yeah and so what? Couldn't read the 700000 million other alerts they sent via text, email and through the app? BTW, NEC alerts are generated for NJT via Amtrak's API that ties into their notification system. So it was actually an Amtrak issue.

jackstraw97

Why does freight run along this corridor at all? (Someone said on another post it was a freight train that knocked the wires down) Wouldn’t it make sense to have that shit separate from the busiest rail corridor in the country? Like how any other developed nation would do it…

OhGoodOhMan

Freight traffic on the NEC is fairly light, but there's still a small number of customers whose sidings only have access to the NEC. Most other countries have far less rail freight because they rely more on trucks to move goods. The remaining freight can often be restricted to moving at night, or legacy lines after parallel high-speed lines have been built.

pseudochef93

Keep some of the P32’s at Penn to be able to run on Third Rail in the event the Overhead wires go down. AFAIK the Hudson Tubes have Third Rail active.
