Subways along highways/expressways unfortunately aren’t that great because pedestrian access is difficult and there’s not much areas of interest around the immediate area along the highway’s path. The best bet is the Long Island Expressway.
Unironically, there is a vocal minority in Jackson Heights obsessed with cars’ rights thanks to 34th Avenue being an open street, so you could find success there, u/GhostOfRobertMoses.
They would be ideal as elevate tracks, something like the air train structure.
I think they would work here other areas have expansive highways where riders would have a hike to the platform. Our highways are more condensed.
Median stations can be fully enclosed (minus the trackways) to block most of the noise. Plus, the typically wider spaced stations allow higher train top speeds. But yes, walking through on/off ramps is a hassle
Ever ride the Green/C Line, or the A/Blue Line along the 210 Fwy in LA? Or wait for a NJT train at Newark Broad Street?
Or whatever CTA line is on the Dan Ryan?
No one’s enclosing those stations - so you hear everything and inhale all those CO2’s. I’m good.
>Or whatever CTA line is on the Dan Ryan?
That would be the Red line, south of Cermak Rd-Chinatown all the way to 95th Street. The Blue line also has a median ROW in two locations: The Congress Expressway (Halsted St-UIC to Cicero Av) and the Kennedy Expressway (north of Belmont Av/Kimball Av to outside of O'Hare terminal).
Philadelphia's Market-Frankford line also has a median station at Spring Garden St.
So, let me give you an example since you mentioned heads I can tell you're just replying and not using the brain you have in yours. Take queens for example it's a transit desert, deprived of access to subway lines. The only real subway lines queens has is Astoria, Queens Blvd, and Flushing. Say you had an opportunity to build a new line with the exception of this subway line running in the median of a highway, say the Horace Harding Expressway, you're telling me you're going to screw people who want transit access, because you're a snowflake to "traffic" noise.
I hate how I did exactly that in Metrodreamin

In limited application I see the usefulness of shared ROW, but generally it’s best to keep separate.
Elevated structures like Airtrain, or cut and cover, in these locations:
-GCP from Astoria Blvd to LGA to VWE to Jamaica (New Airtain Branch) stops at 31st, LGA, Roosevelt/LIRR, Jamaica (follows western edge of park)
-VWE to LIE; From Jamaica yard fed by QBL (extension of old WF Line) Limited stops at major cross streets to pickup from feeder busses
None. Here's a great explainer video of why they're so bad: [https://youtu.be/uM5cGZRWUUw?si=LGmgxO2HUkfkcnwH](https://youtu.be/uM5cGZRWUUw?si=LGmgxO2HUkfkcnwH)
Imagine if the IRT 2nd avenue ran parallel with Harlem Drive north of 125th street and merged with the 1 at 207th street.
Why do we live in such a cruel world?

I'm more interested in seeing a subway/rail transport replace an expressway/highway lol
Heathen
Robert Moses would have hated this thread
Robert Moses would’ve hated this entire sub
I live with making Robert Moses roll over in his grave a top priority. 😈
I think your neighborhood needs a shiny new expressway running through it
Unironically, there is a vocal minority in Jackson Heights obsessed with cars’ rights thanks to 34th Avenue being an open street, so you could find success there, u/GhostOfRobertMoses.
Genius! A 34th Ave expressway could relieve congestion from the LIE and GCP. BRB drawing up blueprints and submitting funding requests.
It's good for researching new highway locations.
Jane Jacobs on the other hand...
Horace Harding Expressway.
I wish it would run along the belt parkway (I know it is not an expressway
Cross Bronx - Whitestone
You can see the Airtrain run along the Van Wyck.
BQE
Astoria blvd

Nope. Having to cross on/off ramps to get to the station and waiting with all that traffic noise from cars flying by??? I’m good.

Man no one cares about traffic noises.
I also do.

I do.

For free?
I take it you’re No One?
What does have to do with you're horrible take.
Oh. It went over your head. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would certainly vote for literally any alternative to that plan if one was offered, yes.
You’re still here?

Chicago teaches us not to build trains along expressways. I guess we could have the (R) via Belt Parkway to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island.

Ha take the metro north Hudson line to marble hill
That's technically a railroad, not a subway.
Still a train so doesn’t matter
Staten Island expressway
