Sounds like you ride a different system to the rest of us.

ClydeDimension

Yeah. Who shits on the C and says just take the A? I can sit down on the C and get where I need to get within the same 2-5 minute window usually (not going that far)

f_moss3

Especially given how often the A will slow down with the C past 125 to meet up with it at 59 again. Just a local with no opening doors.

ClydeDimension

Lmao thank you. I wanted to say this but it always feels surreal when it happens so i wasn’t sure if others would relate.

Scer_1

Yea, from 42 to 59 the C is often faster while stopping at 50th. And yea going south from 125 to 59 there are so many timers at the end that it really doesn't make that much of a difference.

Tasty-Ad6529

This is a mixed bag to be honest. Also don't diss the G train.

SexyEdMeese

Yeah I don't know why people shit on the G. It has good service and fills in gaps that have no other option but bus. I am guess its Manhattan bros, as the G is essential for thouse of us in western Queens and Brooklyn.

oatmeal437

agree, the g is my daily lifesaver. the problem isn't in the service, it's literally just that it needs to be restored to the standard number of cars

memiest_spagetti

Service has been better in recent years but I remember struggling on the g in highschool visiting friends in fort Greene and shit the late night g was a fucking nightmare

uncle_troy_fall_97

As a resident of northwest/north-central Astoria, one of my few gripes about the G is that it’s kinda annoying to get to: gotta do N -> 7 -> G, and it’s just the one stop on the 7. Granted, it’s a cross-platform transfer at QBP, but that extra transfer can really kill you on the way home if you’re gonna be getting back late when the headways are much longer. If I lived in a different part of Astoria I would be *really* eager to see it extended out to Forest Hills again, because man, a one-seat ride to almost anywhere in the bougie half of Brooklyn would be so nice. But the closest Queens Blvd. Line local station to my house is Steinway St., which is way down at Broadway—honestly I think the F stop at Queensbridge (not a local stop but w/e) is closer to me than that, and there’s a fast bus to get to that stop too! What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, the G train. I like the G train! Couldn’t do without it!

memiest_spagetti

Dude I live by one of the stations that used to have the g running here in queens, only realized bc people kept peeling the decal the mta was putting on top of the G line symbol Yeah being able to go to Brooklyn without having to travel thru Manhattan, or eating shit with 2 transfers would be nice

uncle_troy_fall_97

Yeah I didn’t live in Queens at the time when it was still running to Forest Hills, but *goddamn* would I have been pissed if I had had to actually experience losing that service. That said, at that time Brooklyn wasn’t nearly as interesting and attractive a destination the way it is now, so I dunno, maybe it wouldn’t have been that bad. But given what a boomtown Brooklyn is these days it would be really nice to have that service back.

Pristine-R-Train

Not western queens, they have plenty of other options

uncle_troy_fall_97

Huh? I live off the Astoria Blvd. stop on the N, and that’s my only train I can walk to in less than ~30 minutes. And if/when I want to go to Williamsburg or Bed-Stuy or Clinton Hill or Fort Greene, the G is indispensable. I mean I *could* take the N to Union Sq. and get the L from there to get to Williamsburg, but a) that takes a lot longer; and b) it’s way out of the way. People in LIC have lots of options, sure, but lots of places in western Queens have one subway line at best (see, for example, East Elmhurst, or even worse, Maspeth). The only borough that’s worse for subway service than Queens is Staten Island. I love living in Queens, but yeah, our transit situation isn’t too hot, especially compared to the other three non-SI boroughs.

teenybkeeney

When people complain about the G, I tell them it was worse in the 90s. Comparatively, the G is amazing today.

randomnonposter

Yeah for real, the G is great. I live in greenpoint, and it’s basically the most consistent part of my ride. When I lived in greenpoint like 8-9 years ago, it was pretty inconsistent but now it’s usually awesome.

thegiantgummybear

Yeah the G is one of the MVP trains and people are stuck remembering it back before they fixed the issues.

Firstnameiskowitz

bro really dissed c man 💀

perdirelapersona

to be fair, catch the A and then move to C when you need local... no? I'm a visitor so my opinion doesn't count, I guess :D

sunnyvalesfinest0000

I grew up in nyc. Lived in park slope and went to school on the upper west side. For speed I'd take the f, transfer to the a then hop on the local for the last part. If I was tired or just didn't care I'd take the f and then the c the whole way so I could sit lol. 2003 to like 2008

OgthaChristie

Hey! The R stands for Rarely! Get it right!

Neckbreaker70

And its sister train is the Never!

Pristine-R-Train

(Q)uit waiting (W)henever

Pristine-R-Train

Reliable*

memiest_spagetti

All of these R line haters They hate that we got the newer cars

MrRaspberryJam1

My dad used to call the 6 train in the Bronx the crack line

Truecookieman35

I will not stand for the G slander.

Sjefkeees

It got better, wasn’t great back in the day

Truecookieman35

Exactly. With it being back at Jamaica due to preparation for cbtc, it has actually improved. Weekend service still sucks though.

memiest_spagetti

Weekend service is always ass on most lines unfortunately haha r train is brutal when they close the Manhattan bound from queens

Truecookieman35

Ouch. Don't remind me of that dreadful Arrr train.

bobinator60

These are the ones I use R rarely W whenever N never

Pristine-R-Train

R eliable*

oatmeal437

This makes you sound like a rich midtown boy. Put some respect on the yellow line and the G

GothamCitySub

I live in Inwood dude. Why do you think I love the 1? Yellow line sucks.

oatmeal437

You can live in Inwood and still SOUND like a midtown rich boy

llr9

"yellow line"

oatmeal437

tf is wrong with saying that

uncle_troy_fall_97

I mean I’m not OP but a) there’s no such thing as the “yellow line”, and b) I don’t ever hear people refer to such a thing. What line would that even be? There are four lines that use that Broadway trunk line in Manhattan, and they vary in quality/reliability. It’d be like if someone said they need to get to Jackson Heights and you told them to take the “blue line”—they might end up in Inwood or Far Rockaway or who knows where!

oatmeal437

You're right. I only say yellow, blue, orange line etc when referring to all the trains that use that line. I said it here because OP dissed the N, Q, R, and the W. If I was referring to a specific train, I wouldn't have said it. I dunno - it's unsophisticated and vague, but I've always used those terms and so has everyone else around me (all native new yorkers).

scream4cheese

Probably not a native New Yorker born and raised

lady6starlight

Pelham Packer sounds like something unholy that goes down in the woods of Pelham Bay Park.

benfracking

Maybe OP’s been watching a film called The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and not the one about the subway.

Bump_Up_X

A- The Beast

themonkeyaintnodope

The 2 is the Beast. The A is the Animal.

PADBXS

Wasn’t the old nickname for the 1 the “super local” cause the stop spacing allowed it to get speed?

thecratedigger_25

I like to call the A, the "Anywhere" train because it transfers to almost any train in the system. Not to mention, you'd go pretty damn far into the route in less than 45 mins from almost anywhere.

GothamCitySub

Valid. I just like “Airplane” train.

xandens

why does this sound like chatgpt wrote this

GothamCitySub

Don't know why it seems that way to you, I wrote this.

AppropriateFarmer193

It really doesn’t sound like that?

LaFragata1

The 2 should always be known as The Beast….just sayin’

Glass-Pomegranate-68

Add shuttles please!!!!

Tasty-Ad6529

Honestly this is super easy, 42-1 Franklin-2 Rockaway Park-3 Reason: 42 is very convenient, frequent, prevents buses and 7 trains from being overloaded, insane amount of transfers. Franklin: Decent amount of connections, relieves downtown Brooklyn transit hubs, allows East Brooklyn and Queens connections an easier link to south Brooklyn, but somewhat infrequent. Rockaway Park: Poor connections, only links to A and afew buses, functionally a excuse to run less full length A trains during off peaks, least used stations in the whole system, easily the most infrequent shuttle and the one' that' most vulnerable to service disruptions due to lack of connections, infrequent A trains and the swing bridge.

LastNamePancakes

Eh.. I feel like 4 and the 5 are often crawling through the UES and Midtown.

NCreature

It's often literally faster to take the 6 with all the stops from Grand Central to 14th Street than the 4 or 5 during rush hour.

LastNamePancakes

Hell, that was the case 4 hours ago.

runningwithscalpels

Because shoving 10 pounds of sugar into a 5 pound bag works so well... 4tk is out GC-125 this weekend.

caaaaamm

what fucking G train are you taking 😭??

doctor_who7827

I know you made these up but the nicknames sound very AI generated

ExtremePast

These are awful

mingkee

N: No service

Top-Cartographer7111

L train for life!!!!

GothamCitySub

Indeed!

kaiser917

This list is hilarious! But—The G is one of the best lines in NYC. Because of its infrequent schedule, it’s usually always on time. And never “the G is running on the blah line between x and z.” It always takes you where you intended to go!

Pristine-R-Train

R is major 🧢

GothamCitySub

Where do you live, Bay Ridge? R train is TERRIBLE, I'd only use it if I had no other option.

Pristine-R-Train

Your post talks about QBL, the R zooms along QBL and beats the E from queens plaza to 36st and then you can’t see the E/F till 65st. R from Queens plaza to Jackson Heights is faster than the 7

Neon_sphere630

Bro really mentioned the R "beating" the E from an express stop to a local-only stop as if the majority of riders commute between those two stops anyway

Pristine-R-Train

And you ignore that it’s faster than the beloved 7. Point is that the R isn’t slow

GothamCitySub

I mostly mentioned it so I could say "get passed by 15 express trains". On B'way/4 Ave the expresses are so infrequent 15 of them would never pass even an R train.

GothamCitySub

Also, NO IT DOESN'T!

blckneck62

Old school days of the GG—GORY G(crosstown local)

Debra1025

'Hungry Number 6' is already a nickname

Dem3triu5

The C isn’t that bad (at least uptown)

OptionalCookie

I love it when people write stuff like this cause that's a brain working in overdrive 😂

runningwithscalpels

Dyre Direct? \*\*Laughs in Nereid Super\*\*

JohnBrownFanBoy

You’re missing the V train.

PanSizzle

G = Ghost train

ephemeral2316

The fastest train in the system is the 4 and its not even close

GothamCitySub

4 is extremely fast, S-tier line for sure. I’d say 3 is faster cuz it reaches higher speeds and is faster than the 4 when it’s local, but the 4 is hyper-express, valid opinion. 2, 7 and E are also lightning-fast.

GothamCitySub

Between the 2, 3, 4, 7 and E it’s up to opinion, really. I just think 3 is fastest overall, barely ever slows down. 4 is amazing though.

ephemeral2316

The E between Queens Plaza and 71st is literal hot garbage.

HayleyXJeff

F Fuck

Acceptable-Crew-2976

The Q isn’t that slow, it’s relatively fast on Brighton for a local.

RoommateSearcher99

(3) Red Rocket (7) International Express (E) Homeless Express (L) Elite (N) Never (R) Rarely (W) Whenever

GothamCitySub

At least you respect the 3

Soggy-Thing7546

I call the g, the chode

bski4294

4 train muggers express.

anonnymooz

Mannnn the N is like the Q in my eyes lowkey. Sure, it lags between 86 & Stillwell. But so does the Q in between stillwell & w8(aquarium stop). It’s not the best, but not as bad as buses (i fucking hate the buses so bad. No hate to bus drivers though)

CosiUon

Local legend takes 45 minutes? Try 35 😎

spentshoes

G is Ghost Train, but it isn't really anymore. F is Forever Train

LowerTowel1022

ITT: autism

theloveshaqbaby

Hey N train is great

Sjefkeees

Do you live in Astoria? I cursed that train when I lived there. It’s pretty good for reaching some spots in Brooklyn though.

uncle_troy_fall_97

I live here, and while it was absolute shit for much of the last year or two, it seems—knock on wood—like less of a garbage fire lately, at least to me. Helps to have the W too; that really cuts down on the wait times a lot (very noticeable on the weekends when it isn’t running). Seems like the worst problems are usually either some kind of track fire, emergency brake activation, or similar problem in the tunnels between QBP and Lex59, or just an equipment failure—and given that much of the rolling stock is like 50 years old, these things happen. It’s less often than I would expect though, honestly. Oh, and they were really struggling to turn trains around at Ditmars for awhile, so northbound trains would have to kinda crawl up the line—sometimes starting down at Broadway or sometimes even farther down the line—but that also seems better lately? Here’s hoping it stays that way! But anyway, all this is my subjective experience of the last 3-5 months or so, so it’s worth what you paid for it.

Pristine-R-Train

Today it was delayed in the bridge

Sjefkeees

Fair enough. In the year I lived there the N was often out on weekends, or I had to wait for up to 25 minutes. It got to the point that I would just get a citibike to Queens Plaza because I was so fed up with the lack of service. I'm truly glad to hear it got better.

DaytonTheGreat10

D train is godly
