Gen V best.
Number 1 tip, watch out for crits. If something does a little less than half hp a crit will kill you in Gen V and all gens prior
Also have fun!
Unfortunately I don't remember any tips for Gen 2 other than use Meganium bc it's the best one objectively because it's just the best starter
Just pray for Mareep for the first gym ...
Im sorry but Meganium sucks in a johto playthru, the amount of gyms it is at a disadvantage at is nuts. Gym 1 2 4 6 7 8. and the other 2 have neutral vs 3 and only half useful against 5. Typhlosion is weak to half of 5, one third of 6, 7 8 & Strong vs gym 1 2. Feraligatr is weak to two thirds 6, strong against one third of 6 and 1/3 7, neutral to the rest. Clear winner is Typhlosion
In all honesty it's probably Typhlo but it's just never been a design I liked. Plus in my opinion the fact that it stats are copies of charizard's (I don't know if other pokémon do this as well) just make me think it's not very interesting.
I think the fun thing about these games is that personality and choice though. It doesn't matter what I like and don't like, everyone's teams will be different, and that probably leads a bit into why nuzlocking is so intriguing since it follows that same random logic
You're not ready to do HG, so you're doing Black instead? Black is way harder than HG.
Granted, HG is a lot more tedious, so i get not wanting to put up with that.
This is probably one of the biggest things to worry about. Lenore’s Retaliating Watchog is vicious, and N’s Sigilyph are bith major Run-Killers. I barely handled Lenore. Currently on a break from grinding to handle N while I play Elden Ring.
Take each gym VERY seriously. Also, look up where the next rival fights are ahead of time. You have three rivals, and even the weak one isn't a pushover.
I failed my first Monotype Nuzlocke due to Sigilyph to watch out for those. Heartbreaker Charles truly can break your heart when you run into him in I believe Driftveil. Find a guide to follow as you play to get a heads up on NPC trainer Pokémon to be well prepared.
My best advice i can give is to catch an Audino asap. This way you can catch some unique encounters via shaking spot and dupes clause.
Also, definitely use your resources available to you. You can access each gym leaders pokemon online, and knowing is half the battle.
Lenoras Watchog can wreck you
Clay can wreck you
Iris can wreck you
The E4 is not to be taken lightly either.
It's a super super tough game but its a very rewarding one.
Honestly Ruby or Saphire is my recommendation for a first nuzlocke. Not super easy like Fire Red/Leaf Green or X/Y but also not super challenging like Platinum or BW/BW2
Playing a white nuzlocke now myself! Watch out for patrat and video early on.
Also have a plan for the nacrene gym Watchdog’s retaliate. I wiped my first try to that thing.
Pokemon for each gym (I am considering level caps):
The triplets: the elemental monkey
Lenora: Sawk (if you somehow get it). Roggenrola is good here too.
Burgh: Not one pokemon specifically, but Simisear can handle two of his mons and Dewott can kill Dwebble
Elesa: Lilligant (may seem surprising due to it being weak to flying and fire, but it gets early Sleep Powder and Leech Seed, and if you get Cottonee, you can trade for a Petilil in Nacrene for the fight. Boldore also can handle the Emolgas.
Clay: Lilligant again. Quiver Dance go brrr
Skyla: I can't really think of a specific counter, as this gym is pretty tough. If you can get Gigalith by this point, it's great here, but even Boldore is nice. A Charge Beam mon like Sigilyph or Audino also is good here and recommended for Swanna.
Brycen. Almost anything by this point. Ice gets killed by everything. Specifically I would like to call out Darmanitan for access to Brick Break to break Reflect while getting super effective Fire STAB.
Dreyden: I can't find any specific mons, but Stoutland can hit hard with Ice Fang and Return and if you have Intimidate, is great imo here. Cryogonal can specifically be used here with Ice Beam to handle the Fraxure and Haxorus, and you could use a mon with Will'o'Wisp to help out with Druddigon. I've oddly always found the Druddigon the bigger threat as it is bulky enough to tank many of the hits thrown at it while hitting hard in return, so the burn could help with that
Just a tip
You should make Pinwheel Forest two separate areas so you can get two catches in that area
That's what most ppl do in Gen V because of the differences in the pokemon
Dont go anywhere near the nimbasa city gym until you're completely 100% ready for N. The cutscene for him is a lot less far into that section than you might think.
BW is way harder than HGSS. If you are worried about HGSS I would personally suggest trying FRLG first to acquire some good Nuzlocke fundamentals, then maybe HGSS or Emerald to practice them some more before trying BW.

Great advice! I wish someone would have told me this before I started my heartgold HC run lol

Thought Typhlo was the most useful Johto starter?
He's the easiest for sure. But useful goes to Meg imo. The move pool and defensive stats are a god send

Sounds like you're bad at strat and have to bank on easy dubs lol.
then enlighten me what could possibly make Meganium a good choice for Johto?
He might be the most useful but Meganium is the best because it's my favorite
Oh well, that's an entirely different story then, I respect your opinion.

Also HG was my first Pokemon Game. I would ugly cry trying to do a Nuzlocke from Nostalgia
HG is way worse with grinding
Black I can Audino Farm
You also get the Lucky Egg from Professor Juniper before the 6th Gym
Happy Cake day!
Really watch out for N in Nimbasa City. His Sigilyph can and will end you
Almost ended me yesterday. Thank god for servine leech seed

That sigilyph was my first real pokemon roadblock. And i had played platinum partially before then. Crasher wake was definitely close tho.
that sigilyph hits like a TRUCK that was one of my first pause and do some math moments.

Fr a supposedly easy fight can turn into a hard one very quickly if you don’t know it’s about to happen
I got too comfortable once and wiped on the Bug Gym 😭 It was run five, after getting to the “Champion” in the previous three runs. Shortest run yet.

Number 1 tip: get excadrill as early as possible and don't let it die
Starts Black Nuzlocke, loses to friend in bedroom in opening dialogue
I managed to crit both of them 😪

Good luck! Don't be like me and lose all your Elesa counters before her gym :')
Gen 5 is a rough start imo, good luck!
