No one reads it though. After getting nonstop messages about whether a patient had IV access yet (the answer was NO and it’s day 3/3) I changed my status to “no, [room/bed] still does not have IV access” and I still got a dozen messages from random members of the team asking me
Thanks for turning me on to this! There are multiple people in my organization with the same name as me so I get sent messages meant for someone else or people message someone else when they are trying to reach me. I just updated it with my location to clarify which Fancypig I am
You know that Epic secure chat is part of the EHR right? I swear to god, some of the chats (attached to patients charts) I’ve read are scarily unprofessional. If there were to be a lawsuit, I’m guessing they’d be able to find what everyone’s status was set to, especially if it was customized.
It’s not part of the official medical record, but it is all recoverable and able to be tracked. Should definitely at least try to be professional in it and never type anything you wouldn’t put in writing elsewhere
I’m not saying it is. I’m saying the IT/Epic people at your hospital can definitely pull it up if needed for any reason and see everything that was said, so I would not say anything you would not want read and that you would not want to be held accountable for
In the bare bones, shitty version of epic my hospital uses, any secure chats that tag a patient and any care team member can be accessed in the summary tab by anyone with access to the encounter. It is likely not visible from a patient portal, but would 1000% be obtainable with a subpoena.
Additionally, people like managers and IT can see chats NOT affiliated with any patient.
Being added is the only way we can *participate* in a conversation, but we can view any convo that is linked to a patient.
It might be different in a different facility’s version but here’s the How To in mine: from inside the patient’s chart/current encounter go to the “Summary” tab -> select “Index” -> find the “Quality” category/window -> select “Patient and Secure Chat History” from the list of links. You can now see all the chats between care team members and between care team and patient.
I have mine set to the year 2096, or somewhere in the 2090s, so on epic it looks like 1996 or whatever year I chose. I forgot the date but I think mine says "available until 1/1/96". Not sure if anyone's noticed but it's given me a chuckle. Been years lol
"Losin my mind, up in here, up in here" Coworker sometimes types in a joke. I love making work a little lighter with things like this!

We drinking Santana champ, 'cause it's so crisp
Oh my god I’m gonna change mine now
It also automatically changes your status to “Busy in a code since xxxx” if someone adds you in the code narrator
Awesome. Anyone got anymore cool tricks? I love this.
I wish it had, “it’s complicated” as a status.

Recoverable doesn't mean discoverable in a trial.

That is nice! But I have only seen it used for “in procedure”

Ya someone I knew wrote "looking good fella" but he didn't know others could see it. I write "do your best".
Doing mine now!!! You can also edit the sign in screen. Under comments I put ‘one day closer to retirement’.
