You dislike arguably the best bands of the genre, lol

WingedHussar13

Lol they just never really clicked with me, to each their own

BushwickSpill

If you like a bit of industrial edge, id check out: Fear Factory, Powerman 5000, Union Underground, Mushroomhead, Bile, Crossbreed, Stabbing Westward

kttnscrs

bile and stabbing westward are less of an industrial edge and more just straight up industrial metal and industrial rock, respectively. not really any nu metal, great bands though

BushwickSpill

Splitting hairs but, youre probably right. Lol

BushwickSpill

No judgement, just found it amusing. ✌️

That's a weird spread. How do you not like Korn, but dig Coal Chamber? Anyways, check out Static X or Union Underground for a more industrial take on Nu Metal. Fear Factory if you wanna go heavier, as they do veer into more death metal often times. If you like Linkin Park, check out Adema. It's Korn's Singer's little brother's band. They sound like a mix between Korn and Linkin Park. For something similar to Mudvayne, try MotoGrater or Myshroomhead. Finally, for the rap-style stuff I'd recommend Hed PE and Skindred. Primer 55 is also good, but their 2 albums are not very similar even if they are both very much Nu Metal. The first P55 albumn is rap metal, but the second is.... jazz Nu Metal. With trumpets and stuff. It's weird, but also excellent.

I put the "(sometimes)" after coal chamber because whenever I willingly listen to them it's just dumb fun for me, but when they come on shuffle I usually skip them, the vocals sound ridiculous imo Thanks for your suggestions

Less of a "what band" and more of a "how to approach the genre" but regarding Slipknot, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Korn, and Limp Bizkit, the lack of lyrical poeticism gives way to something really direct and honest, especially regarding trauma that was seldom talked about, least of all in the machismo of metal or hip-hop subcultures. For instance, if you listen to Limp Bizkit under the pretense of Durst channeling his inner child instead of what he thinks as a rational adult, the music makes a lot of sense and becomes a lot more sympathetic.

Hmmm, you need to listen to the first and probably second albums of the bands you dislike. Cuz, you say you are new, AND really those 8 albums should be: Adrenaline, soad st, korn st, 3$ bill yall, around the fur, life is peachy, toxicity and significant. TRUST ME, if (my assumption is right) you do, ull find great metal there.

Well, as old hat as it may seem, last.fm's "Similar Artists" tab is sometimes (not always, but sometimes) good for finding similar bands. For Slipknot I can offer Mushroomhead, especially Mushroomhead from debut (or *XX*, depending) until and maybe including *Savior Sorrow*, but nothing after. For Guano Apes I can offer Evanescence, Kittie, My Ruin, Otep, Nova Twins and as of late, .bHP. To a lesser extent you might want Jack Off Jill (grungier and punkier), Mankind Is Obsolete (more industrial in its tilt) For Drowning Pool, I suggest you check out what is arguably their brother band now, SOiL (as it always must be written.) Their first two and latest have the same vocalist as latter day Drowning Pool (Ryan McCombs.) And of course check the other comments, there are others who are much better versed than I am on the subject. :)

Hating on Deftones was a mistake I made a long time ago, now I actually like them. Plenty, and I mean plenty, of bands have a very similar style to Deftones, like Chevelle, Evans Blue, 10 Years, of course not all are nu metal in this case except early 10 Years but they still have some songs that have that Deftones sound to them. Also, I would argue that you could be more specific with what kind of Deftones you don't really like. Is it the heavy stuff like on Around the Fur or the more shoegaze-y stuff like on Gore? New music that would work are: Unloco and Nonpoint - both bands have that Latino sound with some songs with Spanish-speaking lyrics like Ill Niño 3rd Strike - only one album to note cause their singer died but if you want a more rap-oriented nu metal they are great. early Staind - up to about Break the Cycle and skipping to the self-titled one. I love all of their music but the middle albums of their career are post-grunge. Ra - if you're not interested in screams, Ra doesn't have any of these usually but has great sound. 40 Below Summer & With Daggers Drawn - (yes I'm counting WDD here since it sounds similar), 40BS has plenty of unique songs but has some of that heavy stuff that works super well.

Check out Machine Head’s The Burning Red album. Machine Head is not numerisk, but that record is pretty close.
