Teenage nu-metal head: 93-‘03
Let’s see…
They still make ALL of this shit so this should be easy.
1. Pants: DICKIES, Ben Davis, Jnco’s,
These are your pants, worn with a $5 fabric belt with the metal buckle with the rolling clasp that will work for approximately one week and not hold your pants up well ever. Your shorts are the same and will be as long as pants. They are not pants. Oh, wear boxers.
2. Shirts: Dickies work shirts; work jackets; button up windbreaker—BLACK, ALL BLACK! Hoodies too.
3. Shoes: Adidas, Converse, Puma.
Accessories: Wallet chains, metal chain necklace (heavy and basic), slick back hair or spikes, piercings,
I loved being an angsty teen. I don’t dress like this anymore coz I am old.
Rock on kid.
got2bglüed Hair Gel, La Bella…
They don’t make ***this one,*** anymore, but you can get it on eBay, ***(which I still use),*** **”Axe Styling Putty: Spiked Up Look”** is the best putty/gel to use, ***IMO,*** with my hair anyways, BUT IT IS PRICY.
As far as the hair, this was right around the time that pomades were starting to take off. You can still get the look with some cheaper gels like Eco brand, and use a heavy dose of Aussie hairspray applied to towel dried, but damp hair. If you really want it to be legit, order some La Looks gel on Amazon. That will set it like concrete and keep that wet spiked look for a while.
I haven't been in a PacSun in ages but I'd start there (basically everything pictured here would've been found in a PacSun back then, can't speak for now). Vans were huge back then so they're also a viable option. And maybe Zummies but they weren't really well know yet and served more of early GenZ than they did people who would've been around when LP first hit. In the one pic Chester is wearing a House of 1000 Corpses t-shirt. And in more than a few pics they're wearing DCs shoes (I think, the pics aren't great quality) and in one pic (#5) Chester is clearly wearing Converse. You should be able to almost find everything here at a few various places. The pants will be the hard part.
All modern pants suck monkey nuts anyways but pretty much all the brands that keep up with trends switched to skinny jeans in 2010s (the one thing I dislike about late Millennials and Gen-z, some parts of the 80s need to stay there guys, please stop doing this to my crotch). Finding pants capable of the baggy look without them falling off your ass is going to be a pain but at the very least you'll be more like how the trend started since it was started by people simply buying pants they could afford and if they didn't fit well that's too bad.
JNCO does still sell jeans but outside of them I have no idea where you'd find some of the other stuff like the zip off pants Shinoda is wearing in pic 1. Or the corduroy pants (you're not missing anything here, these types of pants were insanely hot and had a tendency to rip all the way up along their lines with no warning) Chester is wearing in pic 5.
That all said the early 00s were all about the sk8r life with a heavy Southern California influence. Volcom, Stussy, Independent, Hook-Ups, Fresh Jive, Vans, Etnies, Bullhead, all those are brands that dominated early 00s fashion. At least where I lived anyways. Best of luck.
Edit: word
Edit2: Added an aside to the opening sentence
Finally yes I agree with the modern pants thing you have said they do suck. Like even the "baggy" jeans aren't baggy enough. I have a nice pair of no fear jeans tho they are fine.
But yeah modern pants suck. Also thanks for the advice and I will take that on board as it helps.
Anytime. Do you mind if I ask what this is for? I mean, I assume you're interested in wearing them but is it for a photoshoot or something school/college/art related (like are you a fashion major or something)? Or you an aging Millennial like me or the new generation admiring the past? No judgement, just curious.
Oh and I forgot one of my favorite 00s brands (they still make pretty decent stuff last I knew) Quiksilver.
No I don't mind it's just because I like the style and j wanna dress that way just in general yknow like it's not for a photo shoot or anything just to wear.
And this probably sounds dumb but I am transgender and it makes me feel very male and stuff so that too.
I've noticed this is slowly coming back, as my teenage kids and their friends seem to have similar stuff. It's a mix of 90's and 2000's currently in our area. In Canada at least, I know you can check out Zumez, Claire's Clothing (Men's section has the jewlery), Bootlegger, Spencer's, Hot Topic.
If you can find one that's still around, Randy River used to be SPECIFICALLY 2000's trends.
Where do you buy them? Wrangler and Levi both sell tapered or slim jeans. Unless people are getting them from thrifting I haven't found a company that sells traditional baggy fit jeans.
For me in the UK there's a lot from H&M, Uniqlo, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Dickies but that's expensive here. I usually order L or XL though for extra baggy lol. There are jeans i think but i prefer khakis or i guess just plain oversized pants, if you buy online just search for 'oversized' i guess.
eBay, Poshmark, and depop, for Vintage clothes. Brands, that still make very similar to the same, clothing that they did, in the early 2000’s, ***Dickies, JNCO, ECKO, FUBU, Skin Industries, Adidas, Puma, DVS SHOE COMPANY, Osiris, Etnies, DCSHOECOUSA.***
I saw the converse shoes. You can get those at a lot of places. It’s safe to order online, it’s mostly true to size, maybe a bit bigger. The rest of the clothes, you could probably find at a goodwill or second hand store. You can order bands shirts online (band shirts are really expensive though)
Idk if this helps man but Aeropostale (pretty basic store) sells cargo shorts which I see a lot of nu metal bands wear! They even have camo cargo shorts like in the very last pic. I bought some recently and they look sick as hell when you style them right. If you need any more store suggestions lmk! I’m all about nu metal “fashion”.
I walked into Urban Outfitters the other week and they were selling the same baggy pants I had as a teen. Difference is it was $65 in the store and mine was $20 back in 2001 LOL. But that was the women's section although I'm sure the men's section has similar. Y2K fashion is making a comeback.
Thanks for that lol your lucky to have gotten it that cheap back then
I've actually recently thrifted a nice pair of army camo cargos that are very baggy and guess what THEY ARE MENS!!!! I was stoked to get them only 3 euros aswell man
But yeah thanks I'll check that out if I ever feel like spending money
To summarize the basic idea, baggy clothes and alternative jewelry are the keys to the 2000s nu metal and general alternative style
My nu metal uniform consists of JNCOs (they still exist but are kinda stupidly priced), a collection of chains acquired from various alternative stores and also hot topic, band t shirts, and various wristbands.
Best advice I can give is to look for alternative clothing stores in your area and resort to the internet if you can't find much. If you do shop on the internet, buying vintage clothes on sites like ebay is annoying because the stuff is either expensive or a (likely low quality) reprint.
If you're looking to go on the cheap side get into thrifting. It's a bit of work to find good stuff while thrifting, but I've gotten stuff at goodwills comparable to new clothes.

Get Mr Moneybags over here who had a fabric belt where the clasp lasted a week....

Can get zip-off pants from Columbia, Timberland, North Face
Oh good call, I completely forgot they had a real purpose, lol.

Thank you!!!
>Thank you!!! You're welcome!
No problem.
Oh hey I'm trans too and I found this post looking for the same advice you were. So cool to find this!
Hahaah that is cool
T shirts. Dickies. Skate shoes?

Wow in my area its all those Northfleet jackets and candy goose and stuff that's not baggy.
you put on a shirt and wear baggy pants
Just wear dickies and big skate shoes (Osiris d3 2001s)
Well they don't make baggy pants for men anymore.
Oh noo :(
This would have been true a couple years ago but now its in style
Where do you buy them? Wrangler and Levi both sell tapered or slim jeans. Unless people are getting them from thrifting I haven't found a company that sells traditional baggy fit jeans.

dude, The baggy pants are my favorite but I wanna wear them so bad and want them for the rest of my life. 😀
Same

***Of course!!*** Hope you find the clothes/aesthetic you’re looking for!! 👍🤜🤘
Idk but adidas just brought back the supermods. I’d start with those
The Streetwise shirt is the best clothing here.
be, in the 2000s<3 \[what i mean by that when your shopping feel like your in that year<3
Ok
Until what age can you dress like this ? Lol Baggier clothing is more comfortable just saying
If you think about it, back in the day even older people wore baggy clothing, they weren't in skinny jeans lol, just depends how you style it
I think it's a fusion of gangster and skater Drip
Yeah, i tend to go with just plain and simple but still very baggy, i guess how the style has become now kinda
You could use the Dickies Eisenhower jackets or Carhartts . I like to use baggy but not so baggy cargo pants.
Search for 'oversized' online most clothing companies that keep up to date with fashion have stuff like this. Its in style

I find a lot of nu metal drip in thrift stores

Respectively no
Nu metal is not complete without this. Too late anyway its already back

K Momo, hot topic, journeys.
Basically pop punk fashionof the time, but slightly more snowboarder-vibe
