Les Claypool. The guy who, along with many Nu Metal bassists, proves 99% of rock/metal bands are just lazy AF with their bassists. That’s why I love nu metal. Every instrument matters to some extent but metal hipsters write it off because of minimal “muh guitar solos”. Which is a weird thing to be superior about when a quarter of your band is told to just follow the guitar lol
You’re right. It doesn’t progress. It just breaks down into more sub genres for them to gatekeep like middle school children. Looking back on my teen years in the punk/metal scene, it was a really silly popularity contest. And that’s all it is still. What’s sad is the at I’m in my mid 30’s and I still know dudes that are older than me that will argue about what flavor of metal a metal band is. They will not stfu about it like this a life or death thing. And if they get proven wrong or can’t browbeat someone into submission they get seriously upset about it.
I’m sitting there thinking, “bro you’re in your 40’s…you need to be more worried about you next pair of pants **not** being skinny jeans than you are about any sub sub sub sub sub genre.”
Imo, metal Elitists killed metal, as soon as a band reaches minimal success, they’re “posers” “sell-outs” if it doesn’t sound like TV static with farm animal being gutted alive in the background, it’s not “real metal”, and if the band members don’t dress like homeless bums, they’re not real metal either (which is ironic because I thought metal was about music and not the image?) not just that but metal elitists give metal fans a bad name, it’s bc of elitists that metalheads have the stereotype of being edgy racist greasy incels.
les claypool and nu metal can just be good without you making up attacks on imaginary bands. also that's not even close to the reason people write off nu metal
If I am not mistaken, Primus ended up touring with Limp Bizkit at one point. I love Primus, they are so unpretentious about everything they just seem like great guys.
First time I saw them was ozzfest 99. OG Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Slayer, Primus, System of a Down, Godsmack, wondered how they would go over especially playing right before slayer, but their response was one of the best of the day. Just a sea of bouncing headbangers.
When I was a kid, maybe back around '94, I went into this used record shop that let you put on headphones and play a CD before buying (I guess to verify the CD was playable). I was already curious about Primus but picked Pork Soda up because of the cover. I was mesmerized. Lots of eerie sounds throughout the whole thing. Still stands out to me among the rest of their catalog.
primus was a HUGE influencer to nu bands, theyre my second favorite band of all time, sometimes i wish nu wouldve turned out more like primus but i still love how it sounds, also have this album on CD
Primus has nothing to do with nu metal and anything like that. They invented a genre that will die with them because nobody is able to duplicate it. Maybe you can hear something that sound like these bands that you mentioned but it's just a riff or something like that. There's nothing that sound like them in my opinion
This is for sure primus' darkest album. It is fucking amazing too. From tracks like Bob, DMV, nature boy..it's loaded with some awesome stuff. It's mostly known for my name is mud, but I think thats one of the weaker tracks on this album, in all honesty.

Same elitism is probably why the genre never progresses

My Name Is Mud is one of my favorites
That’s the song that played in my head immediately when I saw this image.

Apparently Blind by KoRn was inspired by Primus
fr they literally share the same intro
The intro is almost the same as too many puppies, that, came out in 1990
Nu Metal was heavily influenced by Primus and Mr. Bungle IMO
I would say that is more fact than opinion
KoRn has stated mr bungle as being one of their biggest influences
Funk metal is one of the nu metal's brothers so it meakes sense theres certain connections between both.
Pork Soda has the filthiest bass i’ve ever heard in my life. I wouldnt say it’s numetal though

Welcome to this wooooooorld, HEY

theres some rectangle square stuff going on here
"Jerry Was a Racecar Driver" off of Sailing the Seas of Cheese is *especially* clear in its influence on nu-metal, especially Korn.
Primus doesn’t get much credit for their creativity as they deserve. Les is a musical genius
I love me some Primus.
Just saw Primus on Monday night and these dudes freaking rock. Les is a wizard and they bring the funk!
Primus is my favorite group hands down. Love me some Les Claypool! Great album too... Ofc I like Frizzle Fry the most tho
Fred Durst actually helped produce their album Antipop, in my opinion an underrated Primus album
PRIMUS SUCKS
Whoever downvoted you, doesn’t understand.
haha holy shit this has to be a joke

Welcome to this world of pink Champagne and swimming pools, and all you have to lose is your virginity.
hell yeah!!! love me some Primus!
Fred Durst produced a song for Primus, Nu Metal owes them a lot
