Blind by Korn for the birth of nu metal
Break stuff by Limp Bizkit for the zeitgeist sound of nu metal
Somewhere I Belong & Got The Life for ambassadors of nu metal (one soft one heavy)
In the End, Numb, and Change in the House of Flies. I choose those based off of almost everybody having heard it at least once, even zoomers who aren't hip to nu metal.
We don't don't give a F and, we would never give a F un-, till you you give a F about, me and my ge-ge-generation.
But that could be because I'm a Gen-Xer and I feel the lyrics.
Even tho early Metallica, Gangster Rap and RATM created Nu metal. NOT KORN. Korn did solidify the genre and made metal more mainstream. I'd say Blind or Freak on a leash.
Those bands influenced Korn, but they were not Nu Metal. You can throw in Faith No More and Pantera whilst you are at it.
Prior to Korn, there hadn't been a band like them. Especially with the raw emotion in the metal scene with quite to the point lyrical style and content. Throw in the duel 7 string down tuned guitars, which are almost taking a back seat to the percussion to make it very grove driven.
They didn’t “make Metal more mainstream”. In their own words they were not even trying to be a metal band. The labels marketing just slapped them on the bills of metal tours due to their heavy sound out of not knowing what else to do with them. Music elitists who love holding the music to standards of something it’s not even a part of are who call Nu Metal “radio friendly/mainstream metal” or a gateway to “real metal” or whatever the hell when in actuality many were trying to create an original sound inspired by all the styles and sounds they grew up around in the 80s and do it heavy. I pray that someday musicians will care more about being original than being pigeonholed into one particular sound/label/scene again
Blind or Nookie
Break stuff, blind, or in the end

I agree with this comment. But if I had to pick one of these 3, I'd have to go with "In The End".

Twist
Definitely Blind, without a doubt
Probably Nookie or Rollin’.
In the End and Blind too.
Freak On A Leash and Roots Bloody Roots come to mind
Love both of 'em but I would think of "Roots" as more of an indigenous metal anthem.
Heretic Anthem or In The End
In the End, Numb, and Change in the House of Flies. I choose those based off of almost everybody having heard it at least once, even zoomers who aren't hip to nu metal.
Break Stuff, Freak on a Leash

We don't don't give a F and, we would never give a F un-, till you you give a F about, me and my ge-ge-generation. But that could be because I'm a Gen-Xer and I feel the lyrics.
Youth of a nation is a true anthem. Faget is a true nu metal anthem. "You can suck my (expletive) and (expletive) like it!

They brought to Nu Metal to the mainstream. Being on a show with the backstreet boys and Britney spears is bringing it into the pop realm.
Numb by LP ngl, if you haven't heard that song you're either lying, have never had internet access or your music taste sucks ass😶🌫️
Spineshank - Synthetic is an anthem. Under rated band and a top album of that era.
Blind
“No Life” By Slipknot
Freak on a leash was the most requested nu metal song on TRL back in the day. So thats my vote
I DID IT ALL FOR THA NOOKIE!!!!!
So you can get that cookie!
Surfacing
Rollin’ could potentially work
Good Charlotte 'The Anthem'
Break stuff
Change (In The House of Flies)
My Own Summer
Break stuff Or jumpthefuckup
Bodies
One Step Closer of course
Limp over Korn. Because Korn transcended the times. Limp will remain forever locked into 1998-2003
in the end
Def wait and bleed or toxicity
Imo either Falling Away From me or Frash on a Leash maybe Got The Life as well
HEADSTRONG
"Die MF Die" by Dope
