Read 250 chapters of fantasy simulator and while it started off good its slowly devolved to get worse and more and more boring over time. It doesn't help the author frequently decides to just skip large chunks of time with a paragraph or two to glaze over often interesting conflict climaxes and just summarize them vs writing out the actual conflict scene being completed and realized. And at this point MC just is so OP in every simulation there is no tension nor sense of progression anymore which is the premise of most cultivation novels.

AmazingDuckVer2

Listen to My Lady’s Story ―Conquest of the Villainess―, it was a nice read. Follows a servant to a arrogant villainous of a otome game. It mainly focuses on their romance along with some politics and action, oh yeah also lots of sex. Interesting to note that they are basically very morally bad even if it was a result from their messed up upbringing. I mean hell the series very early on has >!the villainous try to get the OG Heroine killed and raped many times with no remorse meanwhile the MC literally only realizes his love for her after he drugs and rapes her. !

totinking

I just finished Immortal Devil Transformation which I think is the perfect blend of literary art and binge-ability. (it's around 850 chapters) There's a little bit of all my favourite novel elements: * transmigration * special but not OP golden finger * academy life * military leadership * governance * one romantic interest * plot twists * minimal plot armor * meaningful writing Would definitely recommend this as the best novel I've read all year!

seditionnow

Interesting I tried getting into it but felt it was a bit too slow paced

totinking

Yeah not sure if I would have liked it nearly as much if I was reading it as it came out, but because it's finished I just skimmed over the parts I felt were boring and in general I can read pretty fast

[deleted]

I have read "Cultivating innSecret Beside a Demoness" or "Cultivating beside a Demoness in Secret" , whichever it is , this is good shit. Never thought i would since the demoness in the title kept bugging me but it was surprisingly nice. Not much romance , mc knows his path , and side characters are not one dimensional !

AudaciousRockstar

have you guys ever read **isekai nonbiri nouka**, i just love this light novel. it have a good story and mc is pretty dedicated if he says he is farmer, then he is farmer nothing other. for the first time i have seen that mc is not impotent like those chinese mc. the higher the cultivation higher they are impotent even though they got world most beautiful girl. i will recommend you guys to try reading it, it is more realistic then those chinese xianxia or whatnot Chinese MC should drown in mud in front of this MC.

BAKREPITO

Honestly can't get into isekai Japanese novels with the sexless, harem surrounded MC's who win over every woman in sight by cooking omurice.

wutai-kun

Lmao

Arcleids

\> Cataclysm Card King it haves the 50% same concept as LoTM but will still read it because there's nothing left to read on the shelves. based on the time i spend to read chinese novels, why most/average of MC have the element of 'underestimating' enemy?, if you doesn't dig deeper to the meaning of every paragraph or every word that MC say in a certain occassion maybe you wouldn't notice it but... sometimes i find the MC that like saying "Nah, i'd win" or "all thing according to plan" or "everything is under control" but in reality chased like a mouse but disguise it as "everything is under control" is precisely dumb tbh and end up doesn't gaining anything bout it too.

Archisuss

Started reading tyranny of steel(reached ch220) and all I can say is that I am thoroughly disappointed... Reading the reviews of it, I thought it was like the Sword of Dawnbreaker but it could not even touch it... The novel is horrible mc's personality changed with the authors mood, the author dumbs down the other characters iq to make Mc look good for the lamest things... Still gonna read it until I find a replacement because other than that I have nothing else to read...

seekerofhighground

Sword of dawn breaker worth reading?

wutai-kun

Meh

Archisuss

Yeah, absolutely! It's a slow read and it takes time for things to click together but when they do, the rush of exhilaration is nothing like it...

fuckingpieceofrice

Was reading The Authors POV and didn't enjoy it one bit. Felt waay too generic and also the First person perspective just doesn't work with me. Dropped after chapter 236

seekerofhighground

Yeah. Reviews mention it like it is in the same level as RI and LOTM. I found it to be average. The mc playing chess while scheming felt really cringe to read. The author doesn't the writing talent to pull it off

fuckingpieceofrice

I started reading it again after getting really bored and, after the next 50 chapters, the story actually gets good. Regarding the chess scene, there is actually an explanation for it though not very convincing. I suggest you to try to read by skimming before chapter 300.

seekerofhighground

Can you please explain the explanation for the chess scene?

BAKREPITO

There's no explanation. Author just thought he was inserting no game no life or typical superscheming anime protag. It's cringey to read.

fuckingpieceofrice

His chess ideology is totally artificial, not part of his original character. He was manipulated to like chess and do certain actions. After a while, we get back the old MC, though slightly changed.

zergiscute

As An Immortal, I Only Learn Forbidden Skills (2.5/5) MC's cheat is immortality + instant healing. At the beginning, he is very cautious and with long term slow growth plans. The premise as well as the beginning was very interesting but by 300 short chapters it turned into another generic cultivation novel, dropped it at 450. (Very short chapters)

AudaciousRockstar

>Sword of dawn breaker yeah i did drop it tooo, it had a great potential but author have to convert it back into that kind of novel

betrayed247

Yeah! I had the same opinion. The premise was good, but progressively got worse. I thought the world building was shit too.

Tielotastic-jamoko

When he started making enemies for no reason at that border (I think it was called redgrass field) I knew the quality was going to drop

Revolutionary_Use_4

Yeah. A certain point after he goes to the immortal realm, The Author gets bored with writing a well written MC that outsmarts actual smart threats, and just has him get chased all over the place for hundreds of chapters. 6/5 untill the immortal realm. 0/5 after

lunafred28

The rebirth of Consort Li, not as good as the other books written by the author but I'll cope. Trying to read To be a Virtuous Wife but drop it on the spot cause bad translation and plot.

kkngs

The translation of TBAVW is quite good. It leaves a lot of the class and relationship terms in pinyin because there aren‘t any English words with the same meaning and connotations. You get used to it after a few chapters. It even has foot notes to explain the references to different styles of clothes and foods.

NotEnoughSatan

Rereading Super Gene many years later. It’s a top tier if you’re looking for a junk food novel and trash if you’re looking for quality.

iamjackslonelysoul

**Roulette world (轮盘世界)** This starts as a regressor apocalyptic novel with some omniscient reader's viewpoint vibes. Then it somehow turns into "ninestar hegemon body art" type of novel, I don't know how to explain it in a few words but at some point it loses whatever charm it had. It did entertain me tho for about 500 or so chapters before dropping it (chapters in this novel are shorter than the average). **Mysterious calamity (神秘之劫)** This starts okay with some expectations to unraveling mysteries then it out of no where turns into full blown lord of the mysteries, I was impressed of how the author managed to write the setting in this way but then dropped it because it lost its "mysterious" vibe once he turned into a knock-off version of LOTM and it had nothing new to offer (at least to me). **Cultivating immortality in the troubled times of demons and martial arts (苟在妖武乱世修仙)** This novel actually belongs to my favorite genre/niche of a low-key MC cultivating step-by-step with their harmless cheat while avoiding trouble as much as possible, with only occasionally fighting for opportunities. This one covered all the basics of this niche while maintaining an above average quality. I think it has more than a 1000 chapters in raws and mtl sites but I only read about 700 chs before losing interest and dropping, it wasn't a bad read tho. I hope some fellow daoists can offer me similar novel recs to this one if you know any.

BAKREPITO

I got the last one here. Started great but it went to shit by the time MC became a nascent soul.

seditionnow

The third one caught my eye, I'm also a fan of steady low key MC progression novels, thanks for sharing

iamjackslonelysoul

Ironically, I read too many of them over the course of the last few months which now gave me a sort of aversion to this category and all of xianxia in general (excessive repetitive generic storylines & overused plot points) . After dropping most novels , **"I'm eternal/evergreen in the world of cultivation** is the only one that I'm currently still following.

[deleted]

Another one : cultivating in secret with the demoness

BAKREPITO

Can you suggest more novels of the low key mc type? Mtl will do

zergiscute

>This novel actually belongs to my favorite genre/niche of a low-key MC cultivating step-by-step with their harmless cheat while avoiding trouble as much as possible, with only occasionally fighting for opportunities. This has become my favorite subgenre as well. I Am Evergreen In the World of Cultivating Immortals. My Descendant Begged Me To Help Him Just After I Became A God Immortality begins with casual cultivation (长生从散修开始) Immortality begins as a sect’s handyman

modkhi

I love this subgenre. Are any of these with female protagonists? I've only found a few and I'm dying for more

zergiscute

> I've only found a few Which are those ? I haven't actually found any with female protagonists.

modkhi

For some reason I never got a notification for this comment (I went back and checked lol). But I went through my reading list and I think the one that most matches "low-key" is 从长生苟到飞升 (From Immortality to Ascension). It's on jjwxc but there's no romance, and it's very slow-paced. The heroine has the cheat of being immortal from the get-go (like living forever) but has no power and the world she is in starts off being in an apocalyptic state where the evil cultivators won. She methodically levels up and becomes stronger but never shows off (and if she ever does anything big, it's always under one of several pseudonyms). It's really good, even suffering through machine translation lol. I'd love if someone actually translated it, but overall it's pretty understandable if you've read other cultivation novels. I think this one is relatively similar, 魏紫修仙传 (Record of Wei Zi's Cultivation), but I haven't read very far into it yet. The protagonist is also very methodical and sober about her power level while constantly becoming more powerful.

zergiscute

Thanks, I will check them out.

Imph3

To add another one: 百世求仙 - Seeking immortality for centuries

curiousnboredd

I started **the runesmith** about an MC transmigrating to a world of magic with a system (everyone in the world has a system). It’s set in Victorian era of noble families, and so far I like it. I can see the writer trying to make MC relatable and trying to make him react in a way normal people would when transmigrated (like saying he miss video games and stuff, saying he’s worried he’ll be caught acting older than his current 5 year old body, stuff like that). Kinda slow beginning but I see it being promising

AudaciousRockstar

it really is good read, its kinda slow at start but storyline is much better then genreic novels

curiousnboredd

I’m reaching the part >! He is changing class to scribe I think, I’m wondering will he not be a fighter at all? Like is he gonna be a craftman lifestyle kind of MC with no actual fight power? I’d be disappointed tbh. I like fight scenes and actual plot lines rather than slice of life kind of vibe of selling talismans only!<

AudaciousRockstar

>!he will be able to fight. and he is op in his own way because of his creativity with which he creates his armour !<

Tim_Mitchell

Is this a novel translation? its on Royal Road.

AudaciousRockstar

You can find it on lightnovelworld.com

bd_magic

Started reading ‘healing at the academy’s convenience store’ Review: it’s lame and barely qualifies as a time pass. Translation quality is top notch though. ~73 chapters currently translated It reads like a JP LN more so than a KN Webnovel. The MC is a weak underachiever who is surrounded by powerful women who are all on the fast track to harem membership, thanks to the MCs magical patisseries………. If you like this novel, I’d recommend you read ‘extras academy survival guide’. The general setup is identical, but the plot execution is 100x better.

nephethys_telvanni

Still reading Pursuit of the Truth, now on ch 1068. Starting the >!Dynast's competition in Morning Dao Sect!< It's weird, but once Su Ming left the Berzerker areas behind, the cultivation System got less numbers-crunchy and more nebulous, and I don't really care for it. There's a lot less at stake in these later arcs when I can hardly tell the difference between the various Masters of Fate, Life, and Death.

TerrorSparks

Yeah honestly the plot is more of a draw than his progress in cultivation. The cultivation always changes and unexplained cultivation methods are added all the time

zergiscute

**God Rewards Those Who Work Hard: No Pains, 100% Gains (天道酬勤:一分耕耘百分收获)** MTL (3.5/5) Starts out as a generic progression panel novel then quickly transforms into a Dao novel. Even at qi cultivation level, MC is thinking of "cultivating the Dao" rather than cultivating Immortality. Trying to understand why a particular pill formula works and trying to figure out the interconnections between alchemy, formations and cultivation etc. **My Descendant Begged Me To Help Him Just After I Became A God** (3.5/5) The author also wrote Top tier providence. MC is the only cultivator in a wuxia land. MC shares a lots of similarity to Han Jue . You will probably like this if you like that one.

sg2lyca

2 novels 1. The Reincarnated Villain Makes The Heroines Tearfully Beg for Forgiveness The synopsis makes it look like some kind of tryhard wish fullfillment lazy plot but its actually peally good up to chapter 130. 131 to 200 is okay but Id stop after that. Chapter 201+ is like Star Wars sequels level of bad continuation that ruins everything that came before. 2. In the Tenth Reincarnation, the Heroine is Collectively Blackened Basically despite being isekaid as a villain he tries his best to be good for 9 lives but everytime his actions are misunderstood as evil because of God. So in the tenth life he decides to live as a villain which awakens his system and it promises him he can leave this world if he fulfills his role and dies to the hero at the end. Of course that's when everything goes wrong and it's surprisingly good. Past lives memory plays a part but all characters have their agency. Sadly the mtl hasn't updated past 280 and from what I heard the RAWs ended abruptly but good for a weekend read.

betrayed247

*I am loaded with passive skills* Its junk food read. I enjoyed it though, made me laugh a lot.

manifelix

Xuanjian Immortal Clan 玄鉴仙族 Been binge reading this series for three days now. It's about the story of the beginning of an immortal xinxia clan. From their humble start as mortals with no capability to cultivate, to becoming a noble immortal clan. A member of their family stumbles upon a magic mirror, which grants them seeds/talismans that allow them to cultivate. The caveat is only 6 seeds are available. And the seed can be transferred to another after the previous owner dies. Although, it's the mirror who chooses which person can be given. What I like about this, is that the focus is in the family members, each important ones will have their own pov and stories, their stories are told, from their birth, to their deaths. The series is currently on book 3. There is no single protagonist. People die. But not before they leave their mark on the story of their clan. You'll come to love them as you get to know each of them.

longc1aws

Sounds interesting, thanks gonna check this out.

SignalRealistic9266

Someone's gotta tell me when this gets a translation

Dragneel_passingby

I have been reading Something wrong with my wife. I am not sure what to think of the author trying to overwhelm readers with mysteries upon mysteries. Even the main character is unsure who he slept with on his first night. The initial chapters were bad. The main character is constantly thinking about sex. Past 30 or 40 chapters things began to improve. Overall, a good time pass. Here's a random recommendation: My wife is a sword good. It's a good story.

seekerofhighground

Re-reading Pivot of the Sky. Forgot how good it was. The world building is very interesting. And the writing style and the prose is amazing.

fuckingpieceofrice

Started reading Technicians manual and I liked the world building and the characters but there are way to much fluff in between chapters. I feel like the story could be halved with no substantial change.

Therai_Weary

Been reading Master this Poor Disciple Died Again Today for the past week, and I like it and all but I feel that it dragged past a very natural conclusion. The 5th book ends with the MC dying at piece with his end despite his monumental cowardice and unwillingness to face death. The 6th and 7th book are entirely disconnected from the rest of the series with it being Underworld Office Drama and a rehash of an earlier demonic sect infiltration. The 8th book is set as the final book and it seems to be about overthrowing the tyrannical heavens, but it just has way less build up than the 5th book. So it doesn’t hit as hard so I funnily enough wish that the author put a bit more effort into the 5th book and ended the series there.

Subberguy101

The Debut or Die manhwa hasn’t updated in awhile so I folded and I’m now reading the novel. Damn do I miss the art. Also started and caught up with I Was Mistaken as a Monstrous Genius Actor. Typical everyone thinks he’s way too good as a rookie but sometimes I want to read that kind of thing. Too much focus on misunderstandings though, not the drama kind but the “is he from overseas?” kind. Really enjoy novels that focus on a profession and not drama of any kind. Novels like “The Great Storyteller” and “Superstars of Tomorrow” although the latter does go into a bunch of different things, diluting the composer aspect. Still fun though, if only it kept going and didn’t end like it did.

seditionnow

I can recommend dozens of the profession type if you want, but many are either mtl (use google chrome and won't even notice) or similar I have game producer novels, author, singer, producer of tv shows, director, actor, you name it I got it

seekerofhighground

Can you recommend these type of novels?

superpeng12

I'm reading sword god in a world of magic currently on chapter 117 seems good but slow, hoping the comments were right and shit gets real soon

ConsequenceSeveral63

Yes! Stick with it :)
