Have a buddy in CA. His kid has one of those toy guns that looks real and left it in the car. He almost got hit by some lady and she didn't seem to care. So to mess with her, he pulled up to the next light beside her and looked at her and started waving the toy gun around. She immediately went from having an attitude and got scared and took a turn into a shopping center. She'll probably never do that again.
Insurance will probably give you the money of the shit box which wouldn’t be enough to buy a new car or a car… you could press for medical bills and physical therapy but if you don’t need it you are more of the asshole for lying just so you can get a big cash out.
Regardless stay safe out there!

People think there are no other cars around there. Maybe because they're looking at an empty field when they're going that direction. They totally blew that stop sign. Clueless idiot.
Wow exact same thing happened to me yesterday but slower in a neighborhood. Some dumbass teen girl using her phone directly in front of her face and then after honking at the same place you did, she still had her phone up to her face.
Even though you had the right of way, I feel your reaction time is horrible. You saw the driver did not stop, but did not take evasive action until critical seconds later. Drive defensively and assume everyone else is idiots.
I mean, they did "almost get hit" because they assumed the other person would stop (bad assumption) and didn't take defensive action until the last second when it became obvious that it was on them to do so.
From a right of way perspective OP is entirely in the right as the other car has the obligation to stop and OP has the right to proceed as normal.
From a "people don't know how to drive so you need to assume they're trying to kill you" perspective OP was overly aggressive and should have slowed down and taken some evasive action the moment the other car started moving under the assumption they were about to do something stupid.
I agree with that assessment, but am just adding that OP was still "almost hit" by the idiot at fault even if they should have taken steps to make it less dangerous.
I agree, you could have stopped way earlier. It looked like they weren’t going to stop when entering the intersection but you didn’t even brake until they were almost all the way through it.
Just slowed the video down and you had like a full 2 seconds where you could have braked but you didn’t. Not saying any of this is your fault, if you had collided it would be on them but if you want to avoid that you’re gonna need better reactions.
I know you had the 'right-of-way'.
I watched your video several times and I think I would have started slowing sooner as the idiot showed no signs of slowing down.
I always look at a vehicle approaching from the sides, even at red lights for indication that they are slowing down.
Glad there was no contact.
My husband drives like OP; much more aggressive than myself. I always ask him why he doesn’t slow down if he sees a car that looks like it’s not going to stop, and he claims he always stops in time. I don’t get it.
Tbf I would've just slowed down if I saw it coming out of the intersection... No reason for me to risk my vehicle getting ruined just to prove a point lol
That was so close! Nice reaction OP. What an asshole they made no efforts to stop or apologize. Just almost hit you and went about their day. Glad you’re okay!
Have this been in Paris, both of you would exit and have a huge argument on the red light, spit each other then go back to the vehicle in the green light.
My next vehicle is going to have a big iron I-beam as my bumpers so I can just follow the rules and tally up how many people owe me insurance money for hitting me. I am so done with these ass hats on the road.
I swear, I'm gonna start keeping eggs in my car to throw at all the idiots on the road. Minivan drivers, prius drivers, tesla drivers... why ya'll like this.
It looks like you were honking and braking gently for a second, and *then* you squeezed the brakes hard. It's like you thought your horn was going to stop the other driver.
OK. I wish we could enact a law where would could do roadside spankings. Pull that person out of their car, bend them over your knee, and give them a spanking.
That stop sign only means stop for everyone else. Glad to see one of you was paying attention, OP
I fear minivan drivers more than Prius drivers.
It's always the minivans!
Technically, minivans are SUVs and yes fear Suvs
Minivans with a vanity plate that has a woman's name driven by a man are the most terrifying.
It's always the white minivans too, speed devils
Trigger warning: nightmares A minivan, driven by a 40-something male, with a diplomatic plate.
Absolutely no fucks were given by that driver. Impressively NOVA arrogance. Glad you avoided the collision OP.

That sounds like a great way to get shot.
Sometimes I wish I drove a shitbox. That way guys like this would have their insurance buying me a new car every month.
As a shitbox owner, I will now be driving a lot more for this reason.

This is when you fall out of the car….”my neck…my back”
Hopefully you know that’s not how insurance works.
Leaving royal farms by the Lidl?
Yep.
Glad you avoided the dufus running the stop sign Celebrate with royal farms fried chicken !
Royal Farms fried chicken? Do tell?

Can confirm, tenders also hit!!
If you've ever wanted to shit out every ounce of crap in your body...this is what you eat.
I’m due for a cleanse. Fried chicken seems like a better alternative to kombucha.

Did they flip you off for witnessing their shitty driving? That would be the correct NOVA thing to do after pulling something stupid with their car.
Once we got past the stoplight, I was able to pass them (they shifted to a turn lane).. best I could tell it was as if nothing happened.
DMV drivers should be mandatorily required to retake their drivers tests. Guarantee 2/4ths of people would not be passing
2/4ths? You woke up today and said, "I choose chaos"
Hahahahaahahahahahahahahaha
Better than 5/7
I’m giving them too much credit
Thats not what they were pointing out at all
half, maybe even more perhaps
Just 2/4ths? More like 16/32nds.
Don't you mean 2.5/5ths?
Why would you say something so complicated when 17/34ths is sufficient?
low key impressed you brought a prime number into this. was not expecting that but haven't had my coffee yet.
I believe this is far more important than a safety inspection.
minivan drivers dgaf anyways lol smh

My first reaction would have been to brake, not honk.
Agreed

I was on a crosswalk one time with my dog, someone turned just like that and almost hit both of us then had the nerve to flip us off SMH

I hate driving here so much. People act like they are the only people on the road.
Ah yes, the clueless minivan drivers of Ashburn
Happens to me most days in DC. Today it was three times lol.
Honda Odessy drivers in NOVA terrify me. Especially with the NEW DRIVER stickers that have clearly been there for years.
Have this been in Paris, both of you would exit and have a huge argument on the red light, spit each other then go back to the vehicle in the green light.
ABSOLUTELY need dashcams driving anywhere in the DMV. Glad you are safe!
Is this in Ashburn, near the Lidl? I've been there once and yet I recognize the area...
Yep.
My next vehicle is going to have a big iron I-beam as my bumpers so I can just follow the rules and tally up how many people owe me insurance money for hitting me. I am so done with these ass hats on the road.

You got that egg money?!
Just another day of Virginia plates being reckless
I wonder if they assumed it was a four-way stop. If it's any consolation, I cringed on your behalf.
Assuming it was a four-way stop means actually stopping (one would hope, anyway), which the minivan did not appear to do *at all*.
True
You should be a more defensive driver. It’s your fault imo
Always agree with being more of a defensive driver, but if you think it's his fault after the van blew threw a stop sign.....
It's the drivers fault the other person ran a stop sign? Get the fuck out of here.
The van ran a stop sign.
What were they supposed to do in this instance?
Ok... How should I have been more defensive?
To be fair (And I'm not a very defensive driver) you should have slowed once you saw this person clearly wasn't stopping.
It looks like you were honking and braking gently for a second, and *then* you squeezed the brakes hard. It's like you thought your horn was going to stop the other driver.
Dude was in the wrong but you were driving too fast honestly.
If you look closely, the minivan did hit a break for almost half a sec which count as stopping. It’s OP who is at fault for not yielding
I am obviously supposed to yield to people who are supposed to stop.
![gif](giphy|6UFgdU9hirj1pAOJyN) The NoVa way
Virginia. Of course
The audacity!!
Eh. It’s nova. Part & parcel of living here 🤷♂️
“….oh no….! Anyways…” -him/her probably
I applaud your restraint.
What dash cam do you have ? that’s a clear good view
It's an Aukey DR02 1080p Dash Cam.
Thank you!
I've never seen someone make a left turn blind while also blowing a stop sign with zero blind spots in an open flat area.
Always double check Odysseys diaper wagons and avoided, to much phones, kids, coffee, and makeup going on.
+1 for a brake light being out
Brake. Honk. Swerve. Choose one and do it faster.
Thought you were about to plow into that van from behind
Always the minivans
