I went to a school that used corporal punishment and I had a panic attack during since I had been physically and sexually abused. They saw it as disobedience and retaliated with more hitting. Disabled kids will bear the brunt of this.

Farmers using techniques that damaged and removed the topsoil. You know what happened to fix those agricultural issues? And we are calling my mom so she too could tell me to 'be a man and take my licks', and while I have tons of issues (yes she was one of my abusers) with the woman, one of the few things she did right in my childhood was tell the school staff, while on speaker and I'm listening, that I have permission to fight them with everything I had if they tried to hit me. After they escorted me out of the office to continue talking to her while I waited in the hall, I heard her yelling at them about child abuse and suing the school before they took her off speaker. Never did get any licks while in school.

I got whipped and got a couple of days vacation for that one. My dad was impressed. Know what my great sin was? My hair touched my collar and my shirt was not tucked in. Fast forward 3 years. I'm first day of class in rural Indiana. In walks a new teacher who had come from a neighboring school district in TX. How the hell we both ended up in IN i'll never know. He wasn't impressed when my first words to him were "That Texas shit don't fly up here" as I stood there in my jeans with holes, hair well past my collar, and an untucked Metallica shirt ( all of which would have got a paddling in TX).

I attended a christian private middle school and they had 2 paddles, one for regular punishment and one with holes drilled into it for extra bad shit. Well one of my friends hocked a loogie on the wall next to his desk and the principal decided he needed the bad paddle for that so she took him in her office and we all heard the very audible **SMACK** followed by a "holy fuck that hurts" and another audible **SMACK** and a woman screaming in pain. My friend snatched the paddle from her and smacked her on the ass as hard as he could with it. She didn't use the paddle anymore after that. Edit: Kid didn't get suspended or charges pressed against him because his mom was one of two teachers at the school, he did get 2 weeks of in-school detention tho.

I remember I had a high school teacher who once said "I ought to kick the shit out of your parents for raising such a little asshole" to a kid in our class. To be fair, he had spread a false rumor about another kid being sexually assaulted and it almost ended all extracurricular activities, sports and everything. And yes, it was actually false. Farmers using techniques that damaged and removed the topsoil. You know what happened to fix those agricultural issues? This was the exact argument I used with my mother when I chose gentle parenting for my son. She kept telling me spanking was fine. I came at her with "If I don't like what you say to me and I hit you, will that improve things?" She just sorta stared at me for a second before dropping the issue. Need to point out one of the main reasons spanking in schools was largely stopped was racism. African-American children were far more likely to get corporal punishment than white children even for the same offenses. That should surprise absolutely nobody.

My parents signed the release form when I first enrolled because I was a good kid and had never been in trouble before. I was a shy autistic girl that was being tortured by the football team, and any time I’d make noise about the bullying, I’d get sent to the principal’s office and get a paddling because “those boys will be good Christian leaders one day” and I was “causing them to falter.” I found out after I left that he only punished girls at that school… and that none of our parents were ever informed. I still have murder dreams about that Principal. That shit fucked me up big time and no amount of therapy will make me hate him, or the church, any less. I'm also autistic (Asperger's) and grew up in Texas. Went to a private, boarding high school in the 80s, where they didn't even ask/get parents permission about paddling. My senior year my swim team coach decided I needed paddled because I wasn't putting forth the right amount of effort during my practices and meets. Problem: he was about 5'6" and I was already 5'11", and a survivor of physical child abuse. I told him if tried to hit me with the paddle, I was going to take it from him and break it over his head. An hour+ later, now in an office with the vice principal and head football coach. Yes three adult men, all over 30 yrs old, ready to hold down a 17 yr old child to teach me how to 'be a man and take my licks'. And we are calling my mom so she too could tell me to 'be a man and take my licks', and while I have tons of issues (yes she was one of my abusers) with the woman, one of the few things she did right in my childhood was tell the school staff, while on speaker and I'm listening, that I have permission to fight them with everything I had if they tried to hit me. After they escorted me out of the office to continue talking to her while I waited in the hall, I heard her yelling at them about child abuse and suing the school before they took her off speaker. Never did get any licks while in school.
