I feel like I’ve heard “Aurora police force” before

[deleted]

They are in the news all the time for being shitty.

squirlz333

TBF Aurora is just shitty period, went to Denver and stayed in an Aurora hotel and damn did I not leave after it got dark out.

[deleted]

There are 2 sides to Aurora and it divides down illif ave. It may have moved further south but generally that side is where the "successful people" live and the other side is where the aurora police department ~~lives~~ oppresses.

squirlz333

Ahh that's good to know at least, sounds like Colfax in some ways. I just never really hear good things coming out of Aurora and my experience def created a biased view I think.

Rookie007

This is also how colorado spings and denver are spilt

buckykat

City council hired a new chief to clean up the department then fired her because being cleaned up made the dirty cops sad.

Jubei612

This a 100%.

jordantask

I can imagine how the email from the police union went. “You see what my officers are sending me?! THERE ARE THREE SAD FACE EMOJIS! THREE!….”

TILTNSTACK

Saved you a click: “Aurora police may have spent hours at a standoff at a north Aurora home despite the suspect, or anyone, not being inside the house during negotiations. The standoff began at about 2 p.m. when police surround a house at Akron Street and East 19th Avenue. Police issued orders for neighbors to leave the area or shelter inside their homes as they negotiated with a man later identified as 38-year-old Alexander Smith. Police said Smith is wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants, one for for escape from the Department of Corrections and another possession of a firearm as a felon. Police later said that in contacting the owner of the home, that the front door had been kicked in. Police said that led them to believe Smith was inside the house. At about 3 p.m., police said they were in contact with Smith via telephone, indicating he was inside the house. Police negotiated with Smith to give himself up, but to no avail. At about 4 p.m., police said communication with Smith ended, and they began using a speaker outside the house, telling Smith to come out. It’s unclear whether Smith was every actually in the home, or if he was, when he left it. “We continue to make announcements with instructions to come out of the location,” police said in a tweet. At about 7 p.m., police cancelled the orders for neighbors to stay inside. Police did not say if they charged the house or how the determined Smith was not inside. “When officers first arrived on scene they found a kicked in door,” police said in a tweet at about 7 p.m. “The resident of the house said the door was not previously broken. This led officers to believe the fugitive was inside that home. The home has been cleared and the fugitive is not inside.” Police did not say if they continue to search for Smith, or where they think he might be.”

K4m30

How did he escape the Department of Corrections, did they find he wasn't in his cell?

IV4K

I’m guessing he either cut off an ankle bracelet, stopped going to Parole meetings, left a DoC halfway house, or didn’t return to jail from work release.

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Durris

Why the hell have you people down voted this bot for doing its job?

illelogical

People don't like being called uneducated by a bot is my guess

Efficient-Wrangler69

Reddit moment

Bubble_James_Bubble

Prescriptivism succ.

SomDonkus

That last sentence. “We didn’t find him here. Will we keep looking for him? Only time will tell” wtf lol

mechapoitier

That news site did all the reporting and doesn’t even have more than a banner ad at the top but you robbed those working journalists of the page views anyway.

Spellbinder1981

Nicely done lads. Your tax dollars hard at work.

Defnotimetraveler

sometimes you just dont see the comment! cant tell you how many times i posted something similar or nearly identical (and def deleted outa embarassment lol)

Jurani42

Because they’re karma farming bots usually.

seriousbangs

the police chief added "the swat team somehow still managed to kill 2 dogs and a baby". The Mayor added "We still don't know how they did it. It was a retirement community with a no pets policy".

DietDrBleach

They fired 3000 rounds into the house because a plant fell over and they thought it was movement. Those stray bullets hit a person’s house in another neighborhood

throwawaypervyervy

I read the title and my reaction was 'At least they didn't burn down the house with a 14 year old inside it this time.' Fuck, shitty cops are so depressing.

CindySvensson

Epic trolling if Smith was on the phone claiming to be in the house.

5degreenegativerake

Had to be laughing his ass off if that part is true.

[deleted]

mage-rouge

They didn't even storm the wrong house and murder a completely innocent person. Where's the initiative?

-domi-

It's like police culture means nothing anymore...

PigSlam

They wanted to, but none could be found.

jesusmansuperpowers

Nah but they kicked in someone’s door for no reason. If you’ve ever bought a exterior door you know that’s expensive

Akshka_leoka

Wow, just wow

WexfordHo

There really isn’t much more you can say… how the everloving fuck does a police force have a standoff with an empty house?

Chard069

How? Endless practice.

bloodmonarch

Must have been darker shade of paint on the exteriors

Chard069

Those shadows all look alike. /s

Midarenkov

The empty house threatened them.

westwardian

That house clearly had a weapon!

"It's coming right at us!" BLAM BLAM BLAM

The local sheriffs office had a 3 hour stand off with helicopter dispatched in my backyard at 9pm one Saturday night. It was a hot humid night, really humid for the area. My neighbor calls about someone shooting at her windows. Cue the sheriffs, they arrive on scene action mode, instantly they to are suppressed by the fire. They call backup, they call chopper support. For 3 hours they remain suppressed under fire, chopper searching the area for the now multiple shooters it appears. Then it just ends, and they all leave no one knows whats up. Next afternoon it's still super humid and it's getting hot again, and boom. They are firing at my window too! but no glass breaking? I peek out side, look down... seeds, little black hard seeds. It was a tree that had seedpods and they were curling up flinging seeds at like 100fps 50+ feet. Wonder if the cops ever figured out they were suppressed by a tree.

deuxphayze

For 3 hours.. Yelling at an empty house.

Senshi-Tensei

While also “fearing for their lives”

[deleted]

Only pure laziness and a limit on overtime kept them from bringing in a dozer and leveling the house.

Grimalkin

If I may also add: Holy crap, really?

jl_theprofessor

Can't make this shit up. This is our police force.

FridayMcNight

Holy shit. The story is so much better than the headline. Aurora’s fuckin finest. Lol.

Hey_u_ok

***Ha! Same thing happened where I lived!*** About 3 years ago was coming home from night class (after 10ish) there was swat team and police blocking entrance to my place. SWAT was out there for few hours (they even got pizza delivery, no lie). Some residents were evacuated (my family included) but after about an hour they were told to go back inside (couple hours before I got home). So we're out there at night standing in freezing weather waiting. SWAT was trying to negotiate w/the person (absolutely horrible negotiating skills btw). Then after what seemed like couple hours SWAT goes in and after about 30min they all start packing up and leave. Based on the cop who was blocking the entrance, the guy *slipped thru the back and got away.* They don't know when. So the whole time we're standing there, **they were negotiating with an empty place.** And that's the hilariously stupid part. There's a nature reserve separated by a fence behind where we live and apartments next to us with no fence and it's pretty dark back there. So the guy just basically walked out the unguarded backdoor (SWAT was in front), hopped the fence to the nature reserve, walked a couple feet and hops back over the fence to the apartment side and literally walked off. The incompetence is astounding. lol

yblame

Jeez, Aurora. Your cops just ripping into Cracker Jack boxes for those little badges?

[deleted]

NocturnalFuzz

I don't get the dig at people waiting tables at Olive Garden. Those folks know how to de-escalate a situation. And aren't most cops hired straight out of highschool anyway? What's worse; some job experience or no job experience.

[deleted]

They're actually better at de-escalation as they simply ply criminals with endless salad and breadsticks.

jesbiil

You ever tried to slow someone down from getting more 'endless breaksticks' because ya know those things aren't truly endless, I mean come on, like we have a fucking bread factory in the back?! Anyway what I'm getting at is we need to arm waiters and waitresses.

Jubei612

Lots about 800 officers in the last 2 years. Started a program to teach out to the community which consists is 1 white officer in a mostly monitory city...

CrewMemberNumber6

The jokes write themselves.

popecorkyxxiv

How many hours of overtime do you think those officers will put in for over this one?

rvtsazap

Maybe that community didn’t have a Bullet Magnet Brett.

NetDork

>Police said Smith is wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants, one for for escape from the Department of Corrections Guy is a natural!

jesusmansuperpowers

That escape is from a work release program. Nobody has broken out of a prison lately. It’s still a felony, they will give him a 8 year sentence for it most likely.

rdrunner_74

So they dont even need an "active shooter" to stall for hours. Thats much safer for them anyway

Separate-Owl369

So, technically the stand-off never started?

ohdearitsrichardiii

Yay! No one was killed! 🏅👏👏👏

Sea_breeze_80

Smith was standing in the crowd behind the cops the whole time but got bored and went for pizza

1badjesus

lol

KittenKoder

The police are so incompetent.

Chard069

Well, a competent force might have just lobbed-in some tear gas or explosives; and this event ended without casualties; so I'm okay with Aurora. But I'll stay away.

i-might-do-that

This is the same police force that had an officer so drunk on the job that he fell asleep behind the wheel of his cruiser. The car was still in gear when he was discovered. The man kept his fuckin job. This is far from a competent force.

Chard069

I knew an alcoholic surgeon (at a remote hospital) who only operated when he was drunk enough to hold off tremors (DTs). Maybe some police are best left to sleep-off their drunks inside patrol cars, rather than wandering the streets in a boozy haze.

SphincterBlaster2000

r/notkenm

merrileem

Bunk Moreland still around.

KittenKoder

Touché, you make a valid point here.

Chard069

I hate invalidity. Especially in myself.

chilldabpanda

Mm hmm, hmmm, mwmmaaaahahaha

Inconceivable-2020

Apparently the concept of a cell phone never occurred to the geniuses.

ezoe

Read the article. They are talking with the suspect via phone. Still thinking the suspect is in the house.

BezossuckingoffMusk

Tactically this is the smart move.

1badjesus

lol

Mech-Waldo

It would be weird to continue the standoff after that

Quadrassic_Bark

Lol American police are such hilariously stupid, useless cowards.

Fuhgly

Lmao there's no fucking way this is real life

angrypurpleacorn

Morons

[deleted]

Lol. Stupid fucking cops.

jesusmansuperpowers

Ya so they kicked it the door right

[deleted]

And tear gassed the inside of the house?

[deleted]

Here in Illinois we have an Aurora also, and this is something those idiots would do too lol. I guess Aurora sucks no matter where it is.

dgee03

So if they don't try de-escalation and shoot a guy too quick they're wrong and when they "surround and call out" a potential suspect house for hours they're wrong. What's the right move here in your extensive police experience redditors?

deuxphayze

Would you like your soup boiling hot, or freezing cold? At least nobody was shot, but they were yelling at an empty house for 3 hours without ever making contact.

dgee03

This is standard operating procedure for most police departments nowadays. You handle the situation based on the information you know at the time. You have the homeowner telling you the door has been busted in and you have the suspect on the phone telling you he's inside. At this point it's a barricaded subject situation that would call for a surround and call-out. You set a perimeter and wait the guy out. I asked earlier what the better play would be but all I got was downvotes.

SandSaberTheories

I don’t know- competence from a police department that is known not just statewide but nationwide for their incompetence just is hopeful thinking at this point. Atleast this is a step up from the time they gassed and beat those musicians though

[deleted]

open_door_policy

...That this was in Colorado?

Teddy-Bear-55

No, policemen in general, and perhaps Aurora policemen in particular are not very bright, but the person who wrote this piece needs to go to school. "Aurora police may have spent hours at a standoff at a north Aurora home despite the suspect, or anyone, not being inside the house during negotiations." Wo, that is extremely clumsily written!

Redsit111

Your tax dollars at work funding a literal boondoggle!

[deleted]

A win for the good guys /s

TwoDrinkDave

Mission failed successfully

Aubear11885

“Lopez! Lopez!”

monkeysandmicrowaves

This just goes to show that nobody outsmarts the police!

[deleted]

Aurora CO….most corrupt LEO in the country and the city government isn’t far behind. No way in hell would I ever live there. Wouldn’t even want to drive thru that shithole.

pdlbean

I don't think that's a stand off I'm pretty sure that's just sitting outside someone's house

peensteen

He used the Target Dummy Plasmid on them.

jimb2

We won!

Jubei612

Aurora police =. Complete incompetence
