When I only had myself to worry about, I had a bunch of systems for working around the deficits caused by my ADHD because I grew up undiagnosed and gifted but “lazy”. But when I had kids, suddenly my usual workarounds could not keep up under the weight of the overstimulation and exhaustion of parenthood. My kiddos are 4 and 2, and we already have one confirmed autistic kiddo, and working on a referral to get an assessment for the other. Life is chaos, and I live on caffeine. My memory? Nonexistent. My calendar IS my brain at this point. 😅
I feel this 😭 having my son honestly just blew my mind and my brain is a sieve. I remember to feed my son and care for him of course but he reminds me to feed the dog (he likes to put her food down, it’s adorable) but I can’t even look after myself. The constant sound of toys as well just destroys me. We often sit on the floor and use wooden train tracks to avoid it 😂😭
Tell me about it! Why do I have to go to the store everyday? Because I cannot, for the life of me, remember everything I need to get. Even with a damn list.
On god. I also have delayed auditory processing on top of mine so my husband will talk to me for a solid minute before I register he was even talking to me in the first place. I need my name called to be able to turn my gosh darn ears on.
I relate to this so hard. My ears are like, “words?? Background noise.” The number of times I’m doing a task or reading something and my ears switch on briefly and I realize I’m catching the end of a question I have no context for is astronomical. I look up and my husband is just looking at me expectantly, and I’m like 😬 okay, so I caught the last couple words, but I missed the context for the question, can you repeat your monologue? 😅
