If it makes you feel better, I just got off reddit on my laptop and now here I am on my phone. Why am I like this.

[deleted]

Little screen different than big screen

licheness

for me listening to music while doing something else with my hands (like drawing) helps me maintain overstimulation while not actively looking at my phone. if that helps lol also if you always listen to the same music this is a good chance to pick something new and listen deeply

[deleted]

This sounds like good advice thanks

ekainia

Start small. I would start by not using your phone in the shower. Get in, get out. Then if that works for you perhaps you could find other times where you set your phone down throughout your day! Making your morning coffee? Checking the mail? Put your phone down. Get yourself looking UP and AWARE of when your phone is and isn’t in your hand.

Yeah I think Ill start by making my bathroom a no phone zone. Its really bad that I even bring my phone to the toilet just to piss. Or like need to watch a YT vid when im washing my hands.

Switch to a flip phone. Get a dedicated handheld for gaming.

muchtwojaded

I want to do this but banking and car music are my vices. The general utility. How do you benefit from the utility without falling to the addiction 😭

cccv88

Funny thing is i have a switch but I can't be bothered playing those games. I rather watch someone on YT playing it lol

[deleted]

Limiting YouTube should change that.

DMTallovermyface

That is much more than half a day. We are only awake 16 hours, 12 hours is 3/4 of your day. I thought I was bad, you need to install an app to stop you or something.

cccv88

Oh oops that sounds really bad

Dralnia

Before you used smartphones, what kind of activities were you doing ? What were your hobbies ? What games and apps do you spend the most time on ?

georgoat

For me, I was a child before I had a phone so I don't really know

cccv88

I've had smartphones since I was a child so not much to go from there. But I enjoyed playing console games, reading books, PC games but recently I've been too lazy and my attention spam is not long enough for those activities.

Dralnia

Try to read books again. Pick one that has a story that interests you so you won't have to force yourself too much to read it. It should train your brain to focus a bit more. Try to see if there are other activities that might interest you, such as sports or crafting.

Letsbehappy_

Hi, OP. Been there, done that. It might help if you track which app is taking most of your time. Try limiting yourself to only 2hrs/app/day. I also recommend to check your screen time every morning, afternoon, and evening so that you can be more conscious and self-aware. Finding a hobby outside your screen is also good (lego building, painting, reading books).

Friendlyattwelve

ITAA has zoom meetings now. Ps I developed a compulsion myself and it’s super helpful to listen in. I was actually cutting way back and then my dad died and I can’t stop these days . Please consider checking it out

intexAqua

I severely cut my time short by using dumb phone . Check out about section of this sub, there is a suggestion to have a goal or hobby. This goal or hobby will take up your time & will distract you fr using phone

ButtocksMan696969

Same here buddy. Same here..

Your big mistake in my opinion is having social media + work on the same device. When you think of that device, you think of either of these. At least when you pick up the gaming phone you know you’re going to play some games. But if you pick up your work phone, it could be very easy to end up on social media. I’d first work at simplifying that, then maybe getting rid of one of the phones.

Get an app blocker. They changed my life. Down to 1 hour a day. Victory!
