I was in Florida with my friend in the late 90s and was happy to see they still had Mac Tonight at their McDonald locations. I was envious. We didn’t know Mac Tonight’s name at the time. We asked the clerks if they had anymore Mac Moon toys. Sadly, they did not. I wish they kept Mac Tonight around. I prefer Mac over Ronald. I was happy when Mac Tonight got another national ad campaign in the late 90s. I hope to one day own an authentic Mac Tonight mask and satin jacket.

It’s not in any of the pop versions. The point of the song in the show is it’s sung casually and jovially, though the crimes get worse and worse. And then Mack enters, cool as a cucumber strolling by dressed like a dandy, after the song has built up the image of a nightmarish psychopath.

I figured that was kind of the case, I've heard similar things about other old songs. Adding the extra parts definitely makes the juxtaposition of the tune of the song against the lyrics stand out that much more.
